Jose Mourinho has told Ajax youngster Justin Kluivert to reject a January transfer to Barcelona and wait for a summer move to Manchester United instead, according to reports from Portugal.
The 18-year-old, son of former international Patrick, has established himself as a regular at Ajax this season, netting six goals and claiming two assists.
It was recently revealed that Mourinho, following Man United’s Europa League final win over the Dutch side, told Kluivert that he wanted to work with him in the future.
And according to Portuguese media outlet Sport, Mourinho has contacted Kluivert over January and told him to turn down a January move to the Nou Camp and instead wait for a summer move to Old Trafford.
Kluivert’s father, who played for Barcelona and Ajax, could prove to be the biggest obstacle in securing his signature as he wants his son to establish himself further in Amsterdam before making a big money move away.
This makes sense given that Justin is still only 18 – a regular at Ajax for about a year – and still very much refining technical aspects of his game.
But make no mistake: the acorn has plopped straight down with Justin, who is already terrorising Eredivisie defences with his blistering pace and mesmerising skill.
He is certainly one to watch for the future.
