Jose Mourinho has expressed his delight at signing a new contract with Manchester United that keeps him at the club until 2020.
The Portuguese claimed two major trophies during his opening campaign and has successfully guided his side to second place in the Premier League table this season, alongside reaching the Champions League knockout stages – something Louis van Gaal couldn’t do in his second season.
And he accepted an extension on his current contract last Thursday, insisting he was delighted with the progress of his players and the club.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Mourinho reiterated the notion that he held the same objectives with the Man United hierarchy going forward.
Jose on his contract extension: "The club, the board and the owners have the same ambitions that I have – they have the same desire to improve at every level. We believe in each other, we have common goals and we go for it." #MUFC pic.twitter.com/JmC5a9TLn1

Mourinho’s miserable 2015/16 campaign with Chelsea was, among other things, grounded in the board’s inability to tie down the signings he wanted over the summer transfer window, but such frustration and subsequent capitulation has not reappeared at Old Trafford.
The board has largely delivered under his tenure, save for Ivan Perisic, and their response to Mourinho’s demands for greater investment back in December was emphatic. That the 55-year-old’s extension came just four days after Alexis Sanchez joined the club cannot be a coincidence.
And while Antonio Conte continues to wrestle with the Chelsea board for greater backing in the market, supporters can hope to see further big names join the club in the summer as Mourinho, for the first time since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, gets the chance to truly build a Man United team in his image.
