Jose Mourinho has hailed his Manchester United side for what was a battling display during their 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.
The visitors struggled to find space in the Burnley box in the first half and failed to register a single shot on target, with Romelu Lukaku feeding off scraps.
But the Belgian, with a mixture of raw strength and superb still, managed to pick out Anthony Martial in the box after 54 minutes and he duly slammed home off the bar.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho made note of how his side managed to adapt to a notably physical affair with Sean Dyche’s men.
Mourinho: “If you don’t score you are in trouble, they go direct, they are consistent in their approach it is really difficult. We defended very well, and it is fair to say Mike Dean and his team were very good. There was a lot of first ball, second ball and the physicality.”

The visit to Turf Moor on a brisk January afternoon was always going to be a test of durability, of resilience, rather than skill.
This was a clash where the ball appeared to be in the air more often than on the ground as Burnley, so well drilled under Dyche, charged across every blade of grass to stamp United out, hounding Paul Pogba at every turn.
And United were stifled for the most part as a result, but it was that distinctly Mourinho-esque winning nous – something that has crystallised this season – that crucially got them over the line.
