Gianluca di Marzio has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will complete a move to Manchester United in a “matter of hours”.
The Chilean international agreed a four year contract with Man United on Wednesday, with the only obstacle being Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way in a straight swap deal.
Arsene Wenger confirmed at a press conference earlier this morning that his top goalscorer would indeed complete a move to Old Trafford.
And Di Marzio, once again, has confirmed before anyone else that Sanchez’s lawyers were now in the process of finalising various details before the move is announced.
“We’re getting to the end of it: Sanchez’s move to Manchester United seems likely to be done.”
“The lawyers are working in these hours to define the last fiscal and bureaucratic details and close the deal before the weekend.
“Wenger’s words this morning have only confirmed what was already reported. Sanchez has an agreement with United for some days now on a 100m sterling wages for 4 and a half years.
“In the deal is included Mkhitaryan, as Arsenal and Mino Raiola (the player’s agent) are working in London to close the whole deal. It’s now a matter of hours.”
Well played, Di Marzio. Once again miles ahead of any journalists from these shores and providing the news we were all waiting to hear: that Mkhitaryan, who could have turned this into a protracted affair along with his agent, was now in the process of finalising his move to Arsenal.
Wenger noted earlier today that his wages would not be a problem given that they were taking their highest owner off the payroll, while Man United have taken a similarly expensive – and no longer effective – player off the wage bill in exchange for one of the best attacking players in the Premier League.
As long as Sanchez signs by midday on Friday, he will be available for selection against Burnley.
