Chelsea are now unlikely to sign Edin Dzeko from AS Roma this month, according to a report from the Telegraph.
As it stands, talks between Chelsea and the player have stalled, with the Blues putting their foot down because of their policy of signing players over the age of 30.
A sticking point in the deal is believed to be the length of the contract, with Chelsea only willing to offer an 18-month deal, where Dzeko, who has scored 10 league goals this season, is demanding a two-and-a-half year contract.
Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Leicester City forward Islam Slimani have both been identified as alternatives, with Antonio Conte desperate to bring in another forward before Wednesday’s deadline.
Giroud is believed to be the most realistic option, but it’s yet to be seen if Arsenal, who value the player at £35 million, would agree to a deal.
Dzeko’s failed move will not affect Emerson Palmieri’s move to Stamford Bridge, with the Brazilian-born defender set to join the Premier League champions from the Serie A outfit.
