Ashley Young has hailed the return to action for Michael Carrick during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Yeovil Town on Friday.
The captain hadn’t featured since September after having a cardiac ablation in response to a series of heart problems, but has been training with the first team squad for a few weeks.
And he finally got back on the pitch at Huish Park, delivering a composed display at the base of midfield as Man United strolled to a comfortable victory.
Young, who didn’t travel to the West Country, took to social media to express his delight at seeing Carrick back in action.
As expected, that was a tough test at times tonight but we’re through! And how good is it to see this guy back…. pic.twitter.com/R3tenfgZCt

It was, above anything, a pleasant delight to see Carrick, following some threatening heart problems, back in the fold and controlling things in midfield once again.
More important, however, is that he remains fit and in contention under Mourinho. United desperately lacked his balance and flexibility on the ball during Paul Pogba’s time on the sidelines earlier in the campaign, with neither Ander Herrera nor Nemanja Matic able to replicate his metronomic influence in a two-man pivot.
Even at the age of 36, Carrick brings a unique charm to any game and supporters will hope he continues to feature over the business end of the campaign.
