Alexis Sanchez is Manchester United’s first line of defence with brilliant determination and work rate, according to new teammate Ander Herrera.
The Spaniard played with Sanchez for the first time in the 29-year-old’s debut for the club on Friday night as Man United comfortably saw off League Two side Yeovil Town in the FA Cup Fourth Round.
Goals from Marcus Rashford, Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku gave United a comfortable win at Huish Park, and Sanchez was named Man of the Match as he grabbed an assist.
Herrera said he was thoroughly impressed by Sanchez’s work ethic.
“What I really like from him is the way he fights when the team loses the ball,” Herrera told the club’s official television channel, MUTV. “He’s always ready to be the first defender for the team, and that’s big for us.
“Obviously we know his quality on the ball, he’s amazing, but his fight, the way he defends, he’s the first player to defend – I really like it.”
Sanchez’s drive is one of his best attributes, combined with his winning mentality. Hopefully, it rubs off on the rest of the squad, which is relatively young.
Even key players Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are under the age of 25, while there’s a fantastic set of young players in Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw.
Sanchez could be the talismanic figure for these players, and his attitude, as Herrera points out, is fantastic.
