Arsene Wenger has made it clear that Mesut Ozil will not leave the club in January after losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
Ozil’s contract expires at the end of the season and no signs have appeared to suggest he wants to prolong his stay at the Emirates, prompting interest from Jose Mourinho.
The Arsenal boss admitted on Thursday that Sanchez was likely to complete a move to Old Trafford over the next 24 hours, with outcast Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading the other way.
And Wenger, running the risk of having his house burned down if he said otherwise, insisted that Ozil would not be another January casualty.

There’s a scene in ‘Rick and Morty’ that reminds me of what is happening between Arsenal and Man United at the moment: a member of ‘The Vindicators’, a group exposed as frauds by Rick and forced to partake in a Saw-esque death game, reaches into this creature made up of one million ants and takes out the queen bee. She crushes it, and the ant creature just kind of melts into nothing.
Pinching both Sanchez and Ozil from Arsenal – the two players solely sustaining Arsenal’s presence in the top six – would no doubt have a similar effect.
Mourinho can further evolve his side into a unit capable of challenging Manchester City’s attacking prowess and, at the same time, permanently turn Arsenal into what we all saw last weekend against AFC Bournemouth, when both players weren’t there and the Gunners lost 2-1.
