Manchester United disgraced themselves in front of goal during their 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Saturday.
Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all missed golden chances to kill the game for Man United before Harry Maguire netted an injury time equaliser.
Needless to say, the only way to respond against Burnley is through doing what they couldn’t at the Kingpower – racking up a glut of goals.
And with that in mind, here are three players who Jose Mourinho must start for this festive fixture.
Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian didn’t get on the scoresheet on Saturday but deserved to walk away with three assists, only for his teammates to let him down.
He was a beacon of composure and cold determination on a night when many floundered in the final third, and Mourinho will need his influence at the masthead of attack to unsettle a strong Burnley defence.
Nemanja Matic
While Paul Pogba disappeared against Leicester, the Serbian was an invaluable influence in the middle, winning the ball off blue shirts and shifting the ball through the lines with precision.
Confidence oozes out of him; his demeanour on the pitch is one of commanding authority, and it ensured United dominated the game. He should be the first name on the team-sheet on Boxing Day.
Supporters will be glad to see Shaw, after months of anonymity, now ahead of the likes of Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
He impressed with an energetic, disciplined display at Bristol City and deserves to come back into the side on Tuesday as his resurgence under Mourinho continues.
