Dortmund CEO claims Mkhitaryan return is unlikely

Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan is not about to return to Borussia Dortmund according to their CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke’s latest comments.

The Armenian attacking midfielder left the German giants to join the Red Devils in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge.

Understandably, Mkhitaryan struggled to adapt to the Premier League right away and instead performed reasonably in the Europa League.

His display’s there convinced fans that he would come good eventually and the start of his second season at Old Trafford seemed to prove so.

However, it was ultimately a false dawn with Henrikh since failing to perform, sparking links with his former club but Watzke insists the move is unlikely.

Speaking to Bild am Sonntag, Hans-Joachim said: “I know the economic details of his transfer to Man United like nobody else.

“That’s why his return is only conceivable with a great deal of imagination.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been the subject of plenty of transfer rumours since his decline in form this season.

The attacking midfielder has even been linked to Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham who are apparently willing to take a gamble on him.

The Gunners in particular may be considering Mkhitaryan due to the likelihood of Mesut Ozil leaving the club on a free transfer, possibly to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have reportedly been interested in the German international and the temptation of signing him for free may be too much for Jose Mourinho.

The pair also share a positive relationship from their time together at Real Madrid and it’s said that the Portuguese manager rates him highly.

Although Borussia Dortmund are out of the picture, Henrikh isn’t completely safe yet at Old Trafford and should his poor form continue, may see himself on the transfer list already.
