Mourinho explains why Man United have extra motivation to beat Bournemouth

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed his squad are keen to bounce back from their defeat vs Manchester City by beating Bournemouth.

The Red Devils take on the Cherries on Wednesday evening looking to put aside their derby blues and continue putting points on the board.

United lost the Manchester derby 2-1 at Old Trafford and will face the home supporters once more, hoping to amend their relationship with the fans.

Mourinho is also keen on plugging away and focussing on his own team’s performance rather than the league leaders who have extended their gap to 11 points.

The Portuguese manager is also looking forward to turn last season’s draw into a win this time around against Bournemouth.

According to Goal, Jose said: “As always when you lose, you probably have a little bit more desire to win. Nobody wants to lose once or twice; I think it’s something that belongs to every team in the world.

“When you lose, you want to win your next game – you have better desire. The motivation is based on we want to try to win all the time.

“When you have a bad result, you don’t want to have two bad results. We lost against Chelsea and then the next match we had a little extra to try to win.”

Manchester United will be without key midfielder Paul Pogba who is still suspended after getting sent off in the match vs Arsenal.

The Red Devils have struggled whenever the Frenchman has been absent this season and some supporters say the Manchester derby would’ve gone differently had he been available for selection.

Ander Herrera is expected to partner Nemanja Matic once more in midfield, raising the issue of United’s attacking mobility.

Mourinho has previously claimed that Pogba is the only United midfielder who can provide that mobility from deep.

Herrera and Matic typically provide cover for the team’s attacking full-backs and front four but are sure to come up against a defensive Bournemouth.

With the away side likely to defend deep with numbers, Jose may need some firepower from the team’s engine room but who will will come up with the goods now?
