Jose Mourinho praised his players for the way they responded to a two-goal deficit against Burnley as they rescued a point late on at Old Trafford.
Two first-half goals for the visitors put them in a commanding position at half-time, but a double substitution of Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan had the desired impact for Burnley, who lost their composure after Lingard netted his first goal of the game in the 53rd minute.
Man United were woeful in the first half, and were often wasteful in possession and showed an inability to finish in the second half, but were improved. The attitude was generally right, though many other things were left to be desired.
Mourinho was pleased with his players, claiming he had nothing bad to say about them, having somewhat thrown them under the bus after a 2-2 draw at Leicester City on Saturday.
“We should have won, yes,” Mourinho admitted, as he did against Leicester.
“I take satisfaction by the way the team played, by the way the team reacted, to try to recover from 2-0 down.
“The boys they fought against the 2-0 at half-time, so nothing at all negative to say about my players.
“I praise their spirit, their reaction, the way they accept all the risks we took in the second half.”
Mourinho was hugely critical of his players after the Leicester game. That was when United gave away a lead to only get a point as Harry Maguire scored a 94th-minute equaliser for the Foxes.
This time, Lingard’s brace secured a point for United when it had looked unlikely at one point, though the Reds should have always beaten Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
