Jose Mourinho has expressed his fury at what he described as a “s**t’ Burnley goal in the opening stages of their 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Marcos Rojo conceded a needless free-kick on the left with two minutes gone and the following set-piece caused chaos in the Man United box, with the ball bouncing off Romelu Lukaku and a series of knees and ankles before Ashley Barnes swept home.
Steven Defour then added a second with a glorious free-kick before Jesse Lingard salvaged a point for the hosts with two wonderfully taken goals.
And Mourinho, speaking after the game, was clearly upset about the way Burnley grabbed their first goal.
Mourinho: "The first half was another s**t goal – I won't say the other letters. We have had a lot of s**t goals of late.” #mufc [@krisvoakes]

The worrying aspect of this quote is that Mourinho doesn’t appear to be upset with his defenders and side’s overall organisation – or lack of it – for the goal, but rather convinced that the home side were just unlucky, recipients of the wrong end of the stick once again under the guise of a kind of universal conspiracy he clearly sees as somehow conspiring against him.
That is not the Mourinho we want to see; this is the Mourinho who invokes a sense of toxicity that ultimately permeates everything around him, and it needs to stop.
