Manchester United are reportedly looking at Anderlecht 15-year-old Eliot Matazo, but will have to fight other clubs for his signature if they are serious about bringing him to Old Trafford.
The Belgian talent has been highly recommended by Man United’s Belgian scouts.
Reports from the Netherlands suggested that United contacted Matazo and his representatives through Romelu Lukaku’s family. Lukaku, of course, having grown up playing for Anderlecht before he joined Chelsea many years ago.
Matazo is captain of Anderlecht’s under-16 side, and will be offered a long-term deal with the Belgian club, with his 16th birthday coming next February. Until that point in his development, United can speak without restrictions to Matazo’s representatives.
Anderlecht would be due compensation, though, if United pulled off a move before he signed an academy contract.
Manchester City are also linked to Matazo. A German trio of sides, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig, as well as French outfit Monaco are also linked to the Anderlecht youngster who is drawing attention from all across Europe.
United completed the signings of a number of top European talents last summer, one of which was former-Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Aliou Badara Traore. A powerful box-to-box central player, United had to work tirelessly to sign Traore ahead of Italian champions Juventus.
They may have to do the same for Matazo.
