Jose Mourinho lambasted his Manchester United’s inability to convert chances in a second consecutive 2-2 draw in the Premier League.
Burnley took a two-goal lead before half-time after poor defending at a set piece allowed Ashley Barners to put the visitors in front after just three minutes.
Steven Defour scored a stunning free-kick to beat David de Gea and double Burnley’s lead before the break. Substitute Jesse Lingard scored a brace in the second-half to rescue a point for Man United, but Mourinho insisted the Reds should have scored more.
“One team had one-and-a-half shots and scored two goals,” Mourinho outlined.
“The other played for 90 minutes, created lots of chances and scored two goals.
“For us to score two goals we need to play in their half for 45 minutes, with only one defender.
“The end product of so much dominance, two goals, is a miserable number,” a frustrated Mourinho said.
United were woeful in the first half, and not much better in the second half. Despite having only one player playing in defence and nine players contributing to the attacks, United’s movement was limited, passes were going astray and there were moments of a simple lack of effort.
It’s now two consecutive 2-2 draws with teams Mourinho’s men should be beating and a win for title rivals Manchester City tomorrow would extend the gap at the top to 16 points before the New Year.
