Jesse Lingard came on at half time to salvage a point for Manchester United with a superb display against Burnley on Boxing Day.
The 25-year-old, who missed an open goal against Leicester City, produced a sumptuous flick early in the second half to halve the deficit for Jose Mourinho’s men after Burnley went in at half time with a two goal advantage following a mixture of attacking incompetence and poor discipline from the hosts.
He continued to harass Burnley’s rearguard with his nimble style and lashed home a sensational drive in injury time to save the day for Man United.
Lingard’s numbers from the game tell you just how much of an immediate impact he had on proceedings at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old could have secured three points on Saturday but inexplicably missed an open goal, leading to Mourinho coming off and branding his finishing, along with others, as ‘childish’ after the game.
And while the rest of United’s attack continued to languish against Sean Dyche’s men, Lingard produced a response. Even his failure to convert a straightforward chance soon after coming on didn’t put him off. He was hungry, zipping across the turf with ravenous intent, and it was enough to give a truly languid United a point.
