Manchester United academy product Jesse Lingard has insisted that his club needed just a bit more time to defeat Burnley in the Premier League.
The Red Devils took on The Clarets at Old Trafford but headed into half time two goals down much to the horror of fans.
Jose Mourinho’s men are at risk of having their season unravel should they continue their recent dip in form.
Fans have questioned the players mentalities with some sections of the support convinced the club’s issues are not the manager’s fault.
Lingard though was quick to reassure fans that him and his teammates never give up and that their heads are in the right place.
Speaking to MUTV, Jesse said: “If we had played for another five or 10 minutes, we would have won the game.
“[The message at half-time] was always believe. Never give up. We knew we had another 45 minutes to play so we had to be patient, keep moving the ball, moving Burnley about, and eventually we created two clear-cut chances which we scored from.
“We always have that fighting spirit, that never-give-up attitude and we’ll see where it gets us.”
Manchester United had Jesse Lingard to thank for the match ending in a draw rather than an utterly shocking loss.
Jose Mourinho brought on the Englishman from the bench and the player responded with a fine substitute display.
Lingard scored both goals for his side to level the match but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic had started in his place initially as Mourinho aimed to either rest Jesse or try to create a partnership between the Swede and Romelu Lukaku.
Whatever the Portuguese manager’s reasons were, the academy product ultimately proved the decision was wrong.
The pacy attacking midfielder has been in fine form in recent matches and should’ve continued starting matches for the Red Devils.
Lingard though wasn’t one to sulk or complain and instead proved his quality and sparing Jose’s blushes by helping the team gain a draw.
