Ibrahimovic: No regrets over Champions League misfortune

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic has insisted that he has no career regrets despite missing out on the Champions League trophy.

The Swede sensation has won the majority of what football has to offer with league titles spanning across multiple nations but Europe’s top competition has always evaded him.

Ibrahimovic also left Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan team a single season before they famously became the champions of Europe.

The Red Devils have advanced into the knockout stages of the Champions League but experts believe it will be tough for Jose to win in their first season back in the competition since Louis Van Gaal‘s management.

With the powerful striker unlikely to remain at Old Trafford beyond this season, most people believe it’ll be unlikely that he ever lays his hands on the illustrious trophy.

According to Football Italia, Zlatan said: “I wouldn’t change my 20 years or 33 trophies for one Champions League.”

“I am missing one trophy… But I say to myself: if I had won the Champions League, would I have become a better player? No. By not winning it, have I become a worse player? No.

“I want to win it at all costs, every year that I play, I want to win: but let me turn this around to every player who had one super season and won the Champions League, then disappeared and never won anything else.

“I, on the other hand, have won consistently every year – and I mean every single year. I wouldn’t change these 20 years or 33 trophies for one Champions League, because I proved every year who I was and I dominated every year.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s early return from his horrific injury had been hugely anticipated by the club’s fans.

The Red Devils sorely missed his presence and leadership qualities but perhaps more importantly his goals as Romelu Lukaku began to struggle up front.

Although it would take some time to see the Swedish hero return to full fitness, he’s sure to make a huge impact on the club once more, even from the bench.

Zlatan’s qualities as a striker are a little different from Lukaku’s and the pair could certainly benefit from a partnership.

Romelu is more of a natural goalscorer with the former PSG man more capable as a creator, particularly in his latter years.

Mourinho’s recent reliance on a two striker formation of late can definitely see the two feature together in the near future.
