Gary Neville claimed Romelu Lukaku was let down by his Manchester United teammates in his side’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
The Belgian showed his ability to hold-up the ball and demonstrated just how good his non-goalscoring contribution can be on Saturday evening.
Despite making brilliant chances with excellent play for Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Man United couldn’t seal the victory against Leicester and a 94th-minute equaliser from Harry Maguire condemned the Reds to an embarrassing draw against 10 men.
“Lukaku’s build-up play today, and his passing and his assists to create chances has been fantastic,” Neville said in commentary on Sky Sports.
“And he deserves better from his team-mates. His teammates haven’t found him, he’s found them, though.”
Martial hit a fantastic chance over the crossbar after a clever pass from Lukaku, while Lingard hit the post and Mkhitaryan didn’t get a shot away quick enough.
Lukaku made four key passes at the King Power Stadium, the joint-highest of anyone on the pitch, alongside Juan Mata and Leicester’s Marc Albrighton.
The 24-year-old didn’t have a single shot on target, yet was one of the best players on the pitch for United and hugely influential.
For a month or so, Lukaku was disappointing United fans, looking slow, his first touch poor and his decision-making weak. Yet in the last couple of games, the Belgian has been in impressive form.
He’s not being given enough service himself, but is helping others around him, the opposite to what was happening a few weeks ago.
