Real Madrid have told Manchester United that they will have to pay £79.5m to secure the services of Gareth Bale next summer, according to reports from Spain.
Jose Mourinho publicly expressed an interest in securing the Welshman’s services over the summer but Zinedine Zidane made it clear that he wasn’t prepared to let the winger leave.
However, following another start to the season punctuated by injury problems, the club and Bale’s representatives have agreed to part way next year.
And according to Spanish media outlet Diaro Gol, Florentino Perez has set Bale’s asking price at £79.5m amid continued interest from Mourinho, who wants the club to sign a ‘magician’ forward to compete with Manchester City next year.
You sense the Champions League winners would have wanted to sell Bale for much more than that – possibly north of £100m – but his injury record, combined with the fact that he is now approaching 29, would likely put off potential suitors from shelling out such a sum.
