Former Welsh international Craig Bellamy has told Chelsea that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is the best candidate to replace Antonio Conte.
As reported by the London Evening Standard, the former Liverpool attacker was speaking on Sky Sports’ Debate show and he highlighted Rodgers’ brilliant record with younger players.
If I was Chelsea, and it doesn’t look like the relationship is great there [with Conte], if he goes at the end of the year. Me personally, I’ve spent all this money on youth players and I want to start seeing them going through into the first team. There would be no better manager out there for me than Brendan Rodgers.
Conte’s future remains unclear at Stamford Bridge and the Italian will enter the final year of his contract next season.
The Chelsea head coach has been linked with a move back to his home country with reports suggesting that tensions are running high behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.
Rodgers has hit the headlines in Scotland after taking Celtic on an unbeaten campaign, winning the domestic treble.
His Hoops side have recently seen their 69-game winning streak come to an end following a 4-0 defeat against Hearts.
Despite Conte reiterating his commitment to Chelsea, Rodgers would represent a shock appointment, despite his success in Scotland.
