Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has revealed just how quick Manchester United loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah is.
Both Zaha, who was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing as Man United manager but flopped at Old Trafford and is shining once more at Palace, and his teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek, another loanee, from Chelsea, hailed Fosu-Mensah’s extraordinary pace.
Fosu-Mensah was signed for Palace on a season-long loan deal by Frank de Boer, who has been replaced byb Roy Hodgson. HIs gametime since the Englishman took over at Selhurst Park has decreased, but he’s clearly impressing his teammates in training.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Loftus-Cheek was asked to name Palace’s fastest player, and said “Timi’s quick,” without hesitating, before Zaha jumped in to back him up.
“Someone will be through one on one with the goalkeeper and he’ll come steaming in from nowhere and just tackle him,” Zaha said of Fosu-Mensah. “His pace is ridiculous!”
Fosu-Mensah has a wonderful mix of raw ability, such as his pace, developed brilliance with his passing and timing in the tackle, and a proper football brain. The hope was for a full season of first team football at Palace under de Boer, who clearly wanted him.
Hodgson has taken over and has Fosu-Mensah in his squad with no commitment to him, leaving the player in a difficult situation. He’s not getting the amount of football he needs if he’s to break into United’s first team properly next season.
