Jesse Lingard treated Manchester United supporters to a truly sensational performance at No.10 during their side’s 3-1 win over Arsenal.
The Englishman, who impressed at No.10 at Vicarage Road, pressed Arsenal’s back three with verve and tenacity, receiving his reward with a well-taken goal with 11 minutes gone.
And with an Arsenal equaliser looking imminent, Lingard, from Romelu Lukaku’s clever flick, drove up the pitch and put the game to bed with a tap in following some superb work from Paul Pogba.
The 24-year-old’s numbers from the game shed light on what was yet another scintillating display at No.10.

Jose Mourinho has struggled to find a suitable set-up for a big away games since arriving at Old Trafford but the win over Arsenal provided a clear blueprint, and it places Lingard at its epicentre.
Unlike Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Juan Mata, he seems to have an eye for the gritty side of the game – chasing players down and, eventually, forcing a mistake before springing into life going forward. He was nimble, rapid, and precise with his passing, a constant thorn in Arsene Wenger’s side with his terrier like tenacity with or without the ball.
His sudden rise to the forefront of United’s attacking impetus away from home proves emphatically that any player, no matter how derided and chastised, can inflict damage when placed in the right system.
