Paul Pogba is a far greater miss for Manchester United than people have realised, according to Southampton great Matt Le Tissier.
The Frenchman is set to return for Man United on Saturday when the Reds host Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
He’s been absent for Jose Mourinho’s team since a 3-0 win in the UEFA Champions League against FC Basel. Pogba was captaining United on that evening after a fantastic start to the season in which he had been pivotal to everything good about United’s performances.
“Pogba being out of the team is a bigger miss than most people realise,” Le Tissier said on Sky Sports.
“Jose realises it. He has changed the way the team is playing. He is being more pragmatic and picking up wins. He is trying to keep his team in it until Pogba comes back.”
Le Tissier makes a key point. Mourinho has significantly changed United to deal with Pogba’s absence. It evidences the good and the bad about Pogba and United.
The good is that Mourinho has a player of such world-class quality that his absence is this damaging to United’s style of play and results. The bad is obviously that United are very much dependent on Pogba in some aspects of play.
Mourinho must formulate a plan to cope without Pogba, because the Frenchman will be unavailable in future, maybe this season, maybe next season.
But for now, it’s time to revel in Pogba’s return, which will hopefully see United return to their early season when they dispatched of teams with ease.
