Manchester United won’t sanction a January move away for Luke Shaw and will instead make a decision on his future over the summer, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has continued to linger on the periphery this season, making just two appearances from the bench in the Carabao Cup.
Shaw’s continued absence from the squad has prompted reports claiming that he could leave in January – either on a permanent or temporary basis – after suffering a complete breakdown in relations with Jose Mourinho.
But according to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker, the club are unlikely to let him leave in January – even on loan – and will instead hand him a chance to impress this season before making a final decision in the summer.
It was widely thought that Shaw would receive his last chance to impress Mourinho and demonstrate his capacity to thrive at the top level during the latter stages of the 2016/17 campaign.
And perhaps another injury, sustained against Swansea City in April, has ironically saved him from being handed the chop just yet.
The boss himself has noted that persistent injuries have served as the biggest stumbling block for Shaw in recent times, yet you sense from his past comments about the defender that this isn’t strictly the case, and that the Englishman leaving the club next summer is something of an inevitability.
