Thibaut Courtois wants his new deal to match that of Manchester United’s David De Gea, according to HLN.
Talks over a deal are believed to have stalled with the Belgian shot-stopper who is demanding a huge £205,000-a-week as part of the new contract.
It appears that Courtois is ready to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge, despite interest from Real Madrid, but he wants the contract to reflect his position as one of the Premier League’s and Europe’s best goalkeepers.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the goalkeeper, but Chelsea will desperate to keep hold of the 25-year-old.
The shot-stopper was quizzed on contract negotiations before Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Qarabag in the Champions League during the week and replied with a simple message for the club.
As far as my contract is concerned, Chelsea has to arrange this with my agent. I do not think there are new developments. We play so many matches and I prefer to focus on my performance. By the end of the season there is still plenty of time to talk.
