Manchester United drew against Liverpool 2-2 at Old Trafford this afternoon. Here are our player ratings for the game-

Andre Onana 7.5- We’re back to the days of the goalkeeper being one of the best players on the pitch. While it’s a testament to Onana’s improvement, it’s hardly an endorsement of the manager and the structure of the team.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 2- Shifted back to the left to repeat his FA Cup heroics but lightning doesn’t strike twice. Lost Nunez for Liverpool’s first goal and conceded a penalty for their equaliser.
Harry Maguire 6- Went about business in an effective, if not pretty way as there were his usual clumsy tackles and jittery passes but a mistake-free display.
Willy Kambwala 8-Held firmly in the face of incessant Liverpool attacks and marshalled Darwin Nunez expertly on a couple of occasions. Should be a bonafide first-team option if United continue to defend deep.
Diogo Dalot 5- Fared better than Wan-Bissaka after returning to his favoured right side but couldn’t show his abilities as most of the game he was defending in his own half.
Kobbie Mainoo 7- Senseless man-marking system had him chasing shadows in the first half but came to his own in an encouraging second half and capped it off with a moment of inspiration to put United in the lead.
Casemiro 2- Started a bit better than expected but was back to his usual laboured self as Liverpool ramped up the intensity. Debatable that he’s not a Premier League starter anymore, obvious that he can’t do a job in Ten Hag’s basketball-playing Red Devils.
Alejandro Garnacho 5- Showed his newfound composure in an early goal ruled for offside but couldn’t do much otherwise as attackers rarely had the ball for an extended period.
Bruno Fernandes 7- Spent more time on the floor asking for fouls and dubious penalties than standing up in the first half. Completely turned it around in the second and his audacious equaliser summed up a true captain’s half.
Marcus Rashford 4- Showed more effort at least but if that’s the expectation from a United player in a derby, we’re already in scary territory. No impact in attack as he spent most of the game running into blind alleys as Liverpool handled him expertly.
Rasmus Hojlund 3- Van Dijk handled him like he was barely an inconvenience. Striker in the current United team is arguably the most thankless position in the Premier League and a 21-year-old is hardly the saviour.
Substitutes:
Antony 6- Was asked to function as an outlet on the counter late on but lacks the pace to do so. Helped in defense diligently.
Sofyan Amrabat 5- Tried a couple of tricky runs through the midfield to no effect.
Mason Mount 5- Passenger in the team after coming on late and got booked for interrupting a transition.
Manager Erik ten Hag 2- United are not “unlucky”, players are not “losing concentration” every game. If it’s a pattern, then it’s a structural issue and if it’s a structural issue, the manager is to be blamed. Got the point due to two pieces of pure inspiration in another game United got dominated.
