PL rivals contact United about completing surprise late deal for 26-yo star - report

Fulham have established contact with Manchester United to explore the possibility of signing Scott McTominay.

All summer, it’s been indicated that McTominay is among several players Erik ten Hag is willing to sell if a suitable offer is made.

West Ham lodged a £30m bid for the midfielder, but United rebuffed their proposal.

It was said that the Red Devils were holding out for a £45m fee – a price that the Hammers deemed too high and out of reach.

David Moyes’ side turned their attention towards getting a transfer for James Ward-Prowse over the line.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person detailed that Bayern Munich proposed a surprise arrangement that would see McTominay move to the Allianz Arena, with Ryan Gravenberch arriving at Old Trafford on loan.

The reliable Florian Plettenberg later confirmed that while McTominay was indeed on Thomas Tuchel’s list for a holding six, the situation was “not hot” as the Bundesliga giants were focusing on alternative targets such as Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.

If an update provided by Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth is anything to go by, it seems that the Cottagers are preparing for life without Palhinha.

As per Sheth, Fulham are looking for replacements, and McTominay is on their radar.

“Fulham make initial contact with Manchester United over Scott McTominay.”

“Fulham looking at options if Joao Palhinha leaves. Bayern pushing. Would take substantial offer for United to even consider.”

United were apparently willing to accept a lower sum to part ways with their academy graduate. Still, the fact they’ll only contemplate a substantial offer from Fulham suggests this may not be entirely the case.

Either that, or they do not wish to strengthen a Premier League rival easily.

If both clubs intend to press on with a deal, they face a race against time with the transfer window closing on Friday.

Man United drawn against Bayern Munich in Champions League group stages

Manchester United have been drawn in a group with Bayern Munich in Champions League Group A.

United famously played Bayern in the 1999 final, which the Red Devils won 2-1 to clinch a historic treble.

Since then, the two sides have met eight times, with United victors on only one occasion.

That was in 2010, but Bayern ran out aggregate victors over two legs on that occasion, too.

Facing Bayern will not mean the return to Old Trafford of Marcel Sabitzer, who was loaned from the Bundesliga club last season. He has moved to Borussia Dortmund this summer.

It will also mean facing Harry Kane, who joined the Bavarians from Spurs this summer. It is also a return for United manager Erik ten Hag to his former club, where he managed the B side.

United and Bayern will be joined in Group A by Turkish side, Galatasaray.

That could also mean a familiar face, with former Red Wilfred Zaha having joined them from Crystal Palace this summer.

Former Chelsea man Hakim Ziyech also plays for Gala.

FC Copenhagen are also in group A.

United have met the Danes three times, winning every match.

On paper, the key to the group will be performances against Galatasaray. Trips to Turkey are notoriously difficult.

United can take confidence in the fact they have only once lost to the Istanbul side, having won three and drawn two. However, that loss was on the last occasion the two sides met, 11 years ago.

David Ornstein confirms United very close to completing shock deal for PL ace

Manchester United are reportedly close to securing a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur left back Sergio Reguilon.

According to David Ornstein (The Athletic), the 26 year old has been granted permission to travel to Old Trafford for a medical.

Fabrizio Romano confirms the same on his Twitter account.

Marca reports that a deal for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella has collapsed.

Luke Shaw‘s absence, coupled with a setback for backup Tyrell Malacia, has forced the Old Trafford outfit to seek external reinforcements.

While the club initially had their sights set on Marc Cucurella, his recent appearance for Chelsea threw a spanner in the works.

The stipulations around player transfers mean that Cucurella would be ineligible to play for a third club this season if United decided to send him back to Chelsea in January.

Reguilon, 26, has been granted permission to travel to Manchester and undergo a medical.

The Spaniard is no stranger to the Premier League, having previously donned the Spurs jersey.

Moreover, his recent stint at Atletico Madrid, albeit with limited appearances, has provided him with invaluable experience in La Liga.

United’s decision to opt for Reguilon is both strategic and economical. Not only does he bring a wealth of experience to the table, but the loan deal also ensures financial prudence in these uncertain times.

The club is also hopeful of adding Fiorentina’s midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat, to their ranks before the transfer window slams shut.

In the interim, United had to resort to playing Diogo Dalot out of position at left-back during their recent clash against Nottingham Forest. While Dalot managed to hold his own, the need for a natural left-back is evident.

The acquisition of Reguilon, should it materialise, will undoubtedly bolster United’s defensive options.

Fans will be eager to see how he integrates into Erik ten Hag’s setup and whether he can make the left-back position his own in Shaw’s absence.

United shift their attention to another PL star after huge Cucurella development - Athletic

Manchester United are now seriously considering a move for Sergio Reguilon.

According to David Ornstein (The Athletic), the club are looking to sign the Tottenham Hotspur left back as a replacement for the injured Luke Shaw.

Reguilon spent the last year on loan at Atletico Madrid.

United are still interested in Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, but the fact that he started last night’s Carabao Cup match might change things.

The Red Devils are actively pursuing a deal for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

After their initial loan offer was rejected, it is now to be seen what the club decide.

Erik ten Hag is first keen on bringing in an emergency replacement for the injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Reguilon would be an interesting pick.

He has not been at his best since the departure of Jose Mourinho and might want to prove himself in another environment.

He is excellent going forward and would offer a ton of attacking intent. The Spaniard does have his deficiencies defensively and will need to be coached appropriately.

The deal for Cucurella still remains on the cards for United.

With a day left for the transfer window to close, United have yet again managed to outdo themselves in terms of incompetence.

Academy starlet who made his debut under Ten Hag set to join League One club - report

Charlie McNeill is set to join League One side, Stevenage, on loan, according to reports.

Michael Plant (MancWorldUK) indicates the Manchester United youngster will drop down the football pyramid ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline, subject to a medical.

A report by The Peoples Person earlier in the summer had revealed McNeill was earmarked for a loan move this season.

The forward was a conspicuous absentee from United’s pre-season friendly against Leeds, with his omission thought to be confirmation he would be plying his trade elsewhere come September.

McNeill made waves three years ago when he rejoined United from rivals, Manchester City, having left Old Trafford in 2014. The initial fee for the move was £750,000, though this could rise to £1.5 million if certain clauses were met.

McNeill was already something of a legend in youth football, where he is said to have scored over 600 goals.

The fact he rejected City’s offer of a new contract, in favour of one at United, will have only helped further strengthen this burgeoning status.

McNeill impressed for the U-18 team, scoring 24 goals in 20 appearances, during his first season back at Old Trafford. The 19-year old also returned 5 goals in the successful FA Youth-Cup run two seasons ago.

McNeill even made his debut for the United senior team at the start of last season, coming off the bench against Real Sociedad in a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford.

The forward then spent the second-half of that year on loan to Newport County, scoring 2 goals and proving 1 assist in 20 games.

This experience is what has driven the desire to go out on loan again as it’s seen as the best environment for McNeill’s continued development.

Newport County were a League Two outfit, however, and therefore a League One side was seen as a preferable jump in quality.

Stevenage currently sit in 5th place in League One, having enjoyed a positive start to the season.

The Hertfordshire club have won three, drawn one, and lost one of their opening five games. However, they have only scored five goals in these five games, suggesting reinforcements up front will be welcome.

Stevenage, therefore, seem the perfect destination for McNeill to land this season.

Academy magician to stay and fight for first-team spot after Ten Hag meeting - report

An injury-ravaged Manchester United are in a race against time as they seek to bring in additional reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.

New signing Mason Mount has suffered an injury while highly-rated youth prospect Kobbie Mainoo is also sidelined.

Add to this the uncertainty surrounding the futures of both Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay, and it is clear to see that manager Erik ten Hag needs support in midfield.

The primary target has always been Sofyan Amrabat and United are in active discussion with Fiorentina over a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

United need help in midfield

But the Moroccan might not be enough if both Van de Beek and McTominay end up leaving and with funds tight, Ten Hag might look to the academy for help.

Hannibal Mejbri, who spent last season on loan at Championship side Birmingham City, has been linked with loan moves all across Europe.

There has also been Premier League interest from the likes of Luton Town and Everton but the player wants to fight for his place in the first-team.

According to The Mirror, the youngster had a chat with the United boss, in which the Dutchman told him that he believes the academy graduate can make an impact this season.

“Hannibal Mejbri is leaning towards staying at Manchester United despite strong transfer interest from clubs abroad and in the Premier League.

“Hannibal is planning to stay at Old Trafford to fight for a place in Erik ten Hag’s team following a fresh round of talks with the Manchester United manager.

“Ten Hag sees the Tunisian international as a player who can make an impact in the first-team this season and, as such, is eager for the midfielder to stay and develop at the club rather than heading off elsewhere.”

The 20-year-old’s treatment by Ten Hag has been curious to say the least. He was part of the youthful side that took on Wrexham and was not involved in the high-profile encounters during pre-season.

Hannibal to stay, but will ETH give him minutes?

Despite the obvious gap in quality in midfield, the Tunisian did not even make the bench in United’s opening three games and has played only one match for the U21s.

If McTominay ends up staying and with both Mount and Mainoo to return, it remains to be seen how much game-time Hannibal actually receives.

As the report mentioned, Sevilla were close to agreeing a loan deal for Hannibal before Ten Hag’s intervention. Hannibal is too talented to just let rot in the reserves.

Fans will be hoping he does not go the way of Zidane Iqbal, who the manager kept in the squad and blocked loan moves for, but in the end, was moved on without receiving a single minute last season.

The complicated €27 million deal being negotiated for Ten Hag's top target - report

Manchester United are working on a loan deal with an obligation to buy for Sofyan Amrabat, according to reports in both England and Italy.

Enzo Bucchioni reveals a loan offer, which includes a €27 million obligation to buy, is currently being negotiated.

James Ducker (The Telegraph) confirms the figure being discussed is somewhere between “€25 million (£22m) and €30m (£26m).”

Bucchiono also indicates a number of offers were made for Amrabat’s services but these were not “taken into consideration”, suggesting the Moroccan’s preference for a move to United.

Ducker corroborates this, stating Amrabat has turned down lucrative offers from Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid, as well as the Saudi Pro League, this summer.

The Italian journalist contends Amrabat reached an “agreement” with United earlier in the summer and has been patiently waiting for a move to materialise.

Amrabat, and his representatives, were reportedly told in January, however, it would require a bid in the region of €30 million for Fiorentina to sanction his departure.

Bucchioni asserts the club’s owner, Rocco Commisso, will not “give up an inch” over these conditions, despite Amrabat’s clear intentions to leave.

Ducker reveals, however, Fiorentina are willing to sanction a loan move, but only on the condition it includes this purchase obligation, as well as a sell-on percentage should Amrabat ever leave United.

The Moroccan international is no longer training with the first-team and will not be included in squads for Serie A games or the Europa Conference League.

Fiorentina play Rapid Wien tonight at home in the second leg of their Conference tie.

Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano stated United were preparing a “formal bid” for Amrabat and stressed a loan proposal had not been sent. Informal discussions were said to have taken place however.

We can infer from these differing sources, therefore, that the prospect of a loan deal on its own could have been discussed but promptly dismissed.

Which will have influenced United’s decision to begin negotiating a loan – with an obligation to buy – for Erik ten Hag’s number one target.

Dean Henderson‘s move to Crystal Palace was confirmed today for a fee in the region of £20 million. Such a move could be crucial in generating the requisite funds for United to delve back into the transfer market, having spent heavily already this summer.

With a loan move for Donny van de Beek drawing closer, Old Trafford officials may soon be armed with both the money and the squad space to bring Amrabat to Manchester.

United could be in this group of death after tomorrow’s Champions League draw

With the UEFA Champions League group stage draw scheduled for August 31, Manchester United will be anxiously waiting to hear who their group stage opponents will be.

Following their third-placed finish in the Premier League last season, this will be a welcome return to the Champions League for Man United, who played in the Europa League last season following a disappointing season prior to Erik ten Hag’s arrival at the club.

Because of their UEFA coefficient ranking, United have been placed in Pot 2 of the of the draw.

Although they may not be classified among the most elite clubs in the competition, being placed in Pot 2 comes with its own perks for the Red Devils.

Because two teams from the same pot cannot be placed in the same group, United will avoid a group stage encounter with the likes of 14-time winners Real Madrid and Inter Milan, who made it to last year’s final with Andre Onana in their ranks.

Still, Pot 1 presents several challenging potential group-stage rivals for United.

Given that teams from the same country cannot be placed in the same group, United will avoid a clash with local rivals Manchester City, however, European juggernauts such as FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and PSG could prove to be threatening opponents early on in the tournament.

Reigning Europa League champions Sevilla will be one of the dark horses to keep an eye out for should they face United in the group stage.

United will no doubt crave revenge against the Spanish side that dumped them out of last season’s Europa League.

Serie A champions Napoli have also proven to be a team in fine form, as have Benfica, who made it to last year’s quarter-finals.

While there are still some places in pot 3 and pot 4 up for grabs as the playoff rounds continue, AC Milan stands out as a powerful opponent, having reached last season’s semi-final.

Real Sociedad is another tough opponent, as United learned during their Europa League group stage defeat to the La Liga club a few months ago.

No matter which of the aforementioned teams are drawn alongside United, Ten Hag and his players will need to be on high alert as they look to forge a path to the Champions League knockouts while navigating a busy fixture schedule.

Southgate set to call up Maguire despite not playing a minute this season - report

Harry Maguire is set to be included in the England squad for the European Championship qualifier next weekend.

England are continuing their campaign against Ukraine on Saturday, 9th September, and currently sit comfortably atop Group C with 12 points from 4 games.

They will then then play Scotland three days later at Hampden Park in a friendly.

Gareth Southgate had previously revealed Maguire’s place in the squad could be under threat should he continue to not feature for Manchester United.

Though the England manager praised the partnership Maguire has formed with fellow Manchester City defender, John Stones, he was also quick to point out the challenge emerging talents presented to existing players, particularly if those established stars are not regularly playing.

“I can never guarantee a player we’re going to pick them. It’s [Maguire and John Stones] a partnership that’s worked brilliantly for us, so we recognise that, but there’s always new challenges coming through.”

“There are some good young centre backs coming through who are slowly picking up experience and that is going to be the challenge going forward.”

Levi Colwill, in particular, is one candidate to replace Maguire in the England starting eleven. The Cobham graduate impressed on loan to Brighton last year and has returned to Chelsea in equally imperious form at the beginning of this season.

Operating from LCB – the same position Maguire plays for England – Colwill is a physically capable centre-half who is equally proficient with the ball at his feet.

His progression statistics ranked amongst the best defenders in the league last season and Mauricio Pochettino has been effusive in his praise of the youngster.

Maguire, by comparison, is yet to play a minute for United this season and is future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.

Rob Dorsett (Sky Sports) has revealed the centre-back is set to be included in the England squad (announced tomorrow), but this is largely due to the unavailability of other options.

Dorsett explains the injuries to John Stones, Tyrone Mings and Eric Dier mean Southgate will select Maguire as he wants “experience” in his squad.

Once Stones regains fitness, however, and Colwill continues to gain his own experience as a starting centre-back at a top club, Maguire’s inclusion in the next England squad may not be so certain.

PL side, in love with United academy graduates, now eyeing Solskjaer favourite - Telegraph

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has shown that he is not afraid to let go of academy starlets if he feels they are not ready for the step up.

So far, the Dutchman has sanctioned the departures of Zidane Iqbal, Charlie Savage, Matej Kovar and Anthony Elanga just to name a few and more could be on the way.

The Peoples Person had reported that Marc Jurado could find a new permanent home and now, The Telegraph have reported that fellow defender Teden Mengi could follow suit.

Premier League new boys Luton Town are desperate for defensive additions and manager Rob Edwards is looking at the United academy graduate.

Mengi to Luton?

“Manchester United centre-back Teden Mengi is on the radar of Luton Town manager Rob Edwards in his search for a centre-back ahead of the deadline.

“Mengi, 21, has had previous loans at Derby and Birmingham and will be made available by United for the right move that will give him the opportunity for first-team football.”

Whether it will only be a loan deal or with an option to buy has not been made clear at this stage.

Luton have been looking at United stars both past and present, having already signed Tahith Chong while Axel Tuanzebe has been training at Luton and trying to impress the management in order to earn himself a new home.

The Peoples Person had reported in the past that Mengi would be one of the academy players to leave on loan this summer with French side Amiens linked with a move.

He was close to a loan in January but he sustained an injury that forced him to miss the rest of the Spanish tour organised by Ten Hag during the World Cup break.

Mengi returned from injury in March and even captained the United U21s during their games against Tottenham and Leicester at the end of last season.

Mengi was tipped for the top after debut under Solskjaer

He was not called up for United’s pre-season which indicated his future lay away from the club but was seen in action in both opening games for the United U21s.

Mengi made his debut under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in 2019 during a Europa League game against LASK at Old Trafford. He also featured in the Champions League against BSC Young Boys in 2021.

The defender has also enjoyed loan spells in the EFL Championship at both Derby County and Birmingham.

The player was seen as a huge prospect, capable of breaking through to the first-team squad for the long term but injuries have derailed his progress.

Mengi’s United contract is set to end in 2024 but the club hold the option of extending it by a year.

Sofyan Amrabat: United actively working on loan deal for key target - David Ornstein

Manchester United are actively working on a deal for Sofyan Amrabat in the final days of the transfer window.

David Ornstein (The Athletic) contends Old Trafford officials are hoping to secure the Moroccan’s services on a loan deal from Fiorentina.

A report by The Peoples Person covered the growing acceptance from the Italian club of Amrabat’s departure, with Fiorentina said to be willing to accept “any offer” for their midfielder.

The Moroccan has one season remaining on his deal at Fiorentina, though they have the option to extend this by another year should they wish. Officials at the Italian club are not thought to want to do this however.

United appear ready to capitalise on this situation, with Erik ten Hag adamant he needs further investment in midfield before the Friday 11pm deadline.

The midfielder played under the Dutch manager in Holland and Ten Hag is a keen admirer of his talents.

Amrabat is a technically proficient defensive midfielder who possesses an excellent combination of physical attributes and leadership qualities.

Comfortable as the deepest midfielder in a single pivot, Amrabat also possesses the athleticism to play alongside Casemiro as a midfield pair.

This combination would offer a far sterner test for opposition attacks to play through than United’s opponents have enjoyed so far this season. He is also a viable alternative to enable 31-year-old Casemiro to be rested and this too is an important consideration moving forward.

Ornstein reveals a permanent move for Amrabat is unlikely, however, due to United’s Financial Fair Play restrictions.

United have considered a wide range of midfielders this summer, including a prospective deal for Ryan Gravenberch.  Ornstein confirms United are admirers of the Bayern Munich midfielder but have “honed their focus” in on Amrabat.

This represents the most significant development in the protacted saga of Amrabat’s potential move to Old Trafford, with the Moroccan having been linked to United across the entire summer.

As the transfer window draws to a close, United appear to be finally making their move.

United finally agree deal for unwanted star’s exit but player not convinced - report

FC Lorient have seen their loan offer for Donny van de Beek accepted by Manchester United, according to a report in France.

Santi Aouna (Foot Mercato) contends the French side have initiated talks with Old Trafford officials over a season-long loan.

United are open to Van de Beek departing the club which would, in turn, help free up space for additional midfield reinforcements.

Real Sociedad had appeared the front-runners for the Dutch midfielder’s signature this summer.

Fabrizio Romano asserts a deal was “very close” at one point between the Spanish side and United, though Real Sociedad chose to prioritise other transfers and the deal ultimately stalled.

This has created the opportunity for FC Lorient to stake their claim for the Dutch midfielder, as the French side look to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.

FC Lorient currently sit in 7th place in Ligue 1, having won one and drawn two of their opening three fixtures. They are set to play Le Havre on Sunday in their next match.

One obstacle to the move, however, is Van de Beek himself.

Aouna’s report indicates the former Ajax star currently has several offers he is mulling over, and may wait for a bigger team than FC Lorient to present themselves as a potential destination.

United will be extremely keen for Van de Beek to make a decision prior to the Friday 11pm deadline, given their pressing need for additions.

Reports continue to link Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch with moves to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag seeks to buttress a porous midfield unit.

United appear to be operating under a one out, one in policy at this stage of the window however.

United's cheeky bid for versatile star responsible for Solskjaer's heartbreak rejected - report

Manchester United are scrambling to bring in reinforcements in key areas with time running out before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Manager Erik ten Hag has always wanted an additional midfielder and attacker but those plans have since changed following news that Luke Shaw could be sidelined till November.

With Tyrell Malacia also sidelined, United are short of specialists in the left-back position with Diogo Dalot playing there against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

United in search of an experienced LB

With Champions League engagements to come, the Dutch manager cannot rely on the Portuguese solely and wants to bring in an experienced full-back.

The Peoples Person have already reported that United are in discussions with Chelsea over the loan signing of Marc Cucurella with the loan fee proving to be the stumbling block currently.

Before the Blues star, United had also been linked with the likes of free agent Ryan Bertrand, Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon, Marcos Alonso of Barcelona, and Brentford man Rico Henry.

The Red Devils had failed with their attempt at trying to prise Ivan Perisic away from Spurs and now it seems that was not the only failed attempt in the last few days.

As per Marca, United tried a cheeky loan bid for Villarreal talisman Alfonso Pedraza but that was promptly rejected.

“Manchester United had asked for Alfonso, looking for reinforcement for the left-back position. The English club have since moved on and already have the arrival of Cucurella ready, but among their first choices was the Villarreal winger.

“Villarreal did not want to negotiate for one of its pillars, since the English were considering signing him through a loan.”

Loan bid for Alfonso Pedraza failed

United fans will remember the 27-year-old well, as he was one of the players who started the Europa League final which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United lost via a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out.

The versatile star has been sensational for the Yellow Submarines and the report claims he is close to finally achieving his dream of a national team call-up.

He is a Spanish U-19 and U-21 European champion and he can play as the left winger as well, something Ten Hag will definitely have liked.

But for now, the focus is on Cucurella and hopefully, United can get that particular business wrapped up as soon as possible and focus on bringing in a midfielder next.

Three loans in three days: United can give Ten Hag his dream window - opinion

Of course, transfer rumours are just that, and often in journalism there is smoke without fire. We have to take some stories with a pinch of salt, but some, by what has been confirmed or implied by club representatives, can be accepted as true, or at least, based on fact.

The press has generally reported all summer that Manchester United have spent their transfer budget on Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, so any further purchases will have to be funded by sales, especially as Financial Fair Play rules have to be considered.

However, a proper delve into United’s FFP standing reveals there is little to be worried about, especially when you consider that the club would have until the end of the financial year, June 2024, to balance the books. And that even if they weren’t balanced, the infringement would not be so serious as to merit a huge fine.

What is the transfer budget and how close are United to it?

United’s net spend so far in this window as per Transfermarkt is €153.86 million, or £131.96. A further £15 is imminent from the sale of Dean Henderson, which will become net £10 million with the £5 million purchase of his replacement, Altay Bayindir. This would bring the net spend for the summer to £121.96 – almost spot on the £120 million figure the club’s owners, the Glazers, had allocated, according to most reports.

So we’re good, then, it seems, so far. But where does that leave United in terms of further acquisitions? Erik ten Hag himself has said United are still looking to strengthen, and it doesn’t take a mind reader to figure out the positions in which he wants to add reinforcements.

Defensive requirements

First, injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left the manager looking for a left back, although a temporary loan would suffice.

United are exploring a few options here that will not affect the transfer budget too much, although Chelsea’s £7 million loan fee demand for Marc Cucurella could be too rich for United’s blood at this stage.

At centre back, Ten Hag also clearly does not rate Harry Maguire but would obviously want a replacement. Unfortunately, though, Maguire shot himself and United in the foot by turning down a £30 million move to West Ham a few weeks ago. The Hammers shopped elsewhere, and while Harry is now keen to leave after all and they are still keen to take him, their offer is now only for a loan. This does United no good at all unless they can loan a quality replacement in return. So unless a club comes in at the last minute with £30 million to put on the table, United are stuck with Harry for the time being.

Midfield requirements

The other area to strengthen is central midfield, where Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek also seem to be surplus to requirements, but would need replacing. Reports of United’s interest in Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch have refused to die down all summer, but no formal approach has been made.

We are told United must sell a midfielder before one is bought, but we are also told that United want a whopping £45 million for McTominay, effectively pricing him out of the market, and that the only offer on the table for Van de Beek, from Real Sociedad, is a loan.

But this is where the midfield situation differs from the centre back one.

There are reports – although not confirmed by any so-called “Tier 1” journalists – that Bayern Munich are interested in McTominay and would consider a loan exchange deal with Ryan Gravenberch going the other way.

If this is true, then why would United hesitate? It is perfect.

And other reports – although again, not with the rubber stamp of Tier 1 corroboration – claim that Fiorentina, desperate to offload an unhappy Amrabat, would accept a loan offer with option or obligation to buy. This, again, would surely be an ideal solution as it would require no outlay from United other than the loan fee and player’s wages.

What’s stopping United from acting?

And this is where something doesn’t add up. Even if the Glazers set a £120 million budget, surely that would have some flexibility? Why would the owners not allow some leeway, when there are world class stars like Amrabat and Benjamin Pavard, an ideal Maguire replacement who is now Inter Milan bound, who are available at around £25 million? Even Glazernomics would dictate that buying a player worth £40 million for £25 million would be a good investment.

Are the owners that inflexible, or has the club’s line of credit now really dried up completely? These surely aren’t amounts that a club of Manchester United’s stature should be incapable of finding.

And even if the budget really is that rigid, what is preventing United from pursuing the loan deals on offer for either or both of Ten Hag’s top midfield targets? The only possible explanations for this would be (a) loan fees are included in the transfer budget and even they are now beyond United’s means or (b) Ten Hag has also been given a salary budget and that has already reached its limit. And even those reasons don’t make sense if a McTominay-Gravenberch swap is really in the offing.

Of course, United’s total silence in incoming transfer dealings could simply be a ploy, waiting until the eleventh hour before they pounce on some last-minute panic sales. But other than that, it is hard to explain what on earth is going on at Old Trafford.

The fact is, with Cucurella, Amrabat and Gravenberch all available for loan, there is no obvious reason why United can’t give Ten Hag his dream ending to this summer’s transfer window.

From Spain: Specialist waiting for Ten Hag's green light before securing transfer

Time is fast running out for Manchester United to fix their injury-ravaged squad which is still lacking in certain key positions.

Manager Erik ten Hag has been asking for a midfielder and attacker since the start of the window but those plans have taken a back-seat following an injury suffered by Luke Shaw.

The England international’s injury is worse than feared and he is set to be out of action till November while backup full-back Tyrell Malacia is also sidelined.

United want an experienced LB

The Dutch manager wants to bring in a specialist and experienced option considering his side’s future challenges in the Champions League.

Ten Hag started Diogo Dalot in that position against Nottingham Forest and while he did quite well, he will be required to man his usual post in the future.

Academy graduate Alvaro Fernandez is the only specialist left at the club after the departure of Brandon Williams to Ipswich Town, and the Spaniard was on the bench against Forest last Saturday.

The 20-year-old shone out on loan last season at Preston North End, where he was adjudged as their Young Player of the Year but Ten Hag still does not feel the former Real Madrid youth product is ready for the step-up.

Even during pre-season, Fernandez’s chances decreased after the established internationals came back and the 20-year-old wants to play regularly.

United open to Fernandez loan

The Peoples Person had reported about Granada’s interest in the full-back and now AS have reported that United are just waiting to bring in a left-back of their own before sending Fernandez to La Liga.

“Álvaro wants minutes and Ten Hag does not feel he is ready, which is why he welcomes a loan. Several teams have knocked on his door, but it is Granada, as AS has learned, the one that is best placed to win, with Getafe also waiting.

“However, the Red Devils have put the operation on standby. The Old Trafford offices are looking for an experienced left-back to reinforce the position and, once the objective has been achieved, to allow the Spaniard to leave.”

There were reports that United were open to a permanent transfer but the Old Trafford club have changed their stance and feel the academy graduate can become a future first-teamer and it will only be a loan exit.

PL winner rejects United in another blow to Ten Hag - report

Manchester United are facing a frenetic end to this summer’s transfer window with both incomings and outgoings still on the cards at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is hoping for some last-minute additions with the market closing on Thursday of this week.

Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left United short at left-back and the club is looking for much-needed cover in the next couple of days.

A raft of names have been linked with a move to Manchester with the club scouring the market for a capable replacement.

According to Spanish media, Barcelona full-back Marcos Alonso has reportedly been offered the chance to join the club this summer but has turned down a move back to the Premier League.

United were hoping to secure a loan deal until the end of the current campaign with the view of a permanent twelve-month contract for the following season.

“Manchester United have offered him a two-year contract. [The club] wanted him to join on loan this season and make him a one-year contract offer at the conclusion of this campaign. The English club made the formal offer for the loan to Barcelona last Monday,” said Marca.

However, Alonso has rebuffed United’s advances and is happy to fight for his place at the Nou Camp.

It’s left United still firmly on the lookout for left-back cover and time is ticking for the club to get a deal done.

Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon have both been touted as possible options and Ten Hag will be hoping his board can deliver in the coming days.

An unconvincing start to the season has left United fans in no doubt that further reinforcements are required if United are to build on their third-place finish achieved last year.

Unfortunately, poor planning has, once more, left United with work to do in the closing hours of the window and Ten Hag still waiting for his final roster three games into the season.

Huge blow for Ten Hag as Varane set to be out for six weeks - Sky

Only three games into the new Premier League season and injury problems are already threatening the derail the campaign for Manchester United.

First, it was Luke Shaw, whose injury muscular injury turned out to be worse than feared and he is set to be sidelined until November.

Now as per Sky Sports, Raphael Varane is going to miss six months after he sustained an injury against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Varane injury worse than feared

He had to be withdrawn at half-time and now it seems the Frenchman’s injury is worse than feared.

“Raphaël Varane could potentially be out for up to SIX weeks due to suffering an injury against Nottingham Forest,” Kaveh Solhekol told on Sky.

“If it’s really bad, we don’t know, we have to wait,” was Erik ten Hag’s reaction post the Forest game and now his worst fears have been realised.

The World Cup-winner has a poor injury record since his move to Manchester a couple of seasons ago. In total, he has missed 34 games for the Red Devils.

As a result of the injury, there is very little chance Ten Hag will allow Harry Maguire to leave this late into the window.

Injury could force Maguire to stay

“Harry Maguire’s future could remain at Old Trafford due to the situation,” the report further stated.

The England centre-back was linked with a move to West Ham United and Everton and now the injury could jeopardise his chances of an exit.

Ten Hag needs support in defence and if the club manage to secure Jean-Clair Todibo, then allowing Maguire to leave makes sense.

Apart from the Englishman, the manager has Victor Lindelof as back-up centre-back while the club are still weighing up whether to hand Jonny Evans a one-year deal.

Greenwood finally finds a willing club, initial enquiries started - report

Departures are at the top of the agenda for Manchester United as the transfer window inches closer to the end.

A major departure that most will have an eye on is the future of Mason Greenwood.

The forward is set to leave United after the club elected not to continue with him amidst fierce public backlash and now, a potential destination for him has opened up.

Turkish outlet Sabah Spor’s Ogun Sahinoglu reports that Besiktas have added the United forward to their list of options.

They are currently checking how far along in his match fitness Greenwood is and the enquiry through his agents has been initiated.

For United, this transfer will be a tricky balancing act.

On one hand, after the charges against him were withdrawn, he remains an exciting prospect so the club could be well within their rights to demand at least some sort of compensation.

On the other hand, his unique situation, where it is clear that he won’t play for the club, softens their stance quite a bit.

The club might be hoping for a bidding war for his services so they can logically get some fee for him without standing in his way of a fresh start.

So far, it hasn’t been the case. Signing Greenwood remains a scenario of a potential public nightmare so despite his obvious talent, no club has been linked with him concretely.

United would hope that Besiktas’ initial interest materialises into a bid so the process can get started at least.

Both the club and the player will benefit from a clean cutting of the cord so a way forward is seen with utmost clarity in both entities’ futures.

Ten Hag’s “broken promise” leaves transfer target “mentally affected” - report

Manchester United’s search for a midfielder in the dying days of a transfer window is not a secret.

However, recent reports have indicated that their interest in Sofyan Amrabat, one of the names most linked with the club, is “overstated” by the Italian media.

As the club tries to navigate the last few days of the window, it has left the Moroccan devastated.

Labaro Viola reports that Amrabat’s career has reached a very difficult crossroads.

The midfielder has already been frozen out by Fiorentina until his future is resolved as he “isn’t in the optimal psycho-physical conditions to [play]”.

He had reportedly been waiting for United to make an offer that hasn’t arrived yet.

To add to his problems, he has been left out of the provisional squad for his team’s UEFA Europa Conference League squad.

It would undoubtedly come as a shock to him considering he had a “promise” from Ten Hag that he would “take him to England”.

The report says that many talks have taken place between intermediaries, but no official bid has arrived yet amidst Fiorentina’s softening stance.

The report even goes on to state that a “forced stay” could be on the cards for Amrabat, whose future will be under a cloud soon as his contract expires next year.

A process of remediation and mending broken bridges could be in Amrabat’s future if none of the clubs who were interested in him come forward with an offer in the remaining days.

This would be a nightmare scenario for the player, who has considered his Fiorentina time to be over for quite a while but will now have to go back to the place he said goodbyes to in his heart.

United set to lose vital player for one month due to national call-up

Manchester United first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana could be set to miss out on some crucial matches later in the season after he was recalled to the Cameroon national squad.

Fecafoot-Officiel posted on X a list of the players included in Cameroon’s squad to face Burundi on September 12 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification game, which included the 27-year-old shot-stopper.

This confirmation comes after The Peoples Person previously reported on another social media post suggesting that Onana could return to his national team after announcing his retirement from international football in December last year.

Onana’s decision to step down from international football came after he had a fallout with Cameroon’s head coach Rigobert Song at the 2022 World Cup.

Song had reportedly dropped Onana from the squad after Cameroon’s World Cup opener due to a difference in tactical opinions between coach and player.

While Onana prefers to come out of his box, push up the field and frequently play with the ball at his feet, Song prefered that the goalkeeper revert to a more traditional role between the sticks.

Although several reports have surfaced since Onana’s retirement suggesting that the player could return to the fold, none of these claims ultimately materialized.

That is until Actu Cameroun reported days ago that the goalkeeper could return to his national team within the coming days following months of negotiation with the government of Cameroon.

The African giants will be relieved to reintroduce Onana to the team ahead of their final AFCON qualifier against Burundi, with both teams tied on points in their group and only one qualification spot available.

Still, this development will be a cause of concern for Man United.

Should Onana be included in Cameroon’s AFCON squad provided they qualify, he is set to miss several United games during what will be a crucial point of the season.

AFCON is set to run from January 13 until February 11, during which time United are scheduled to play four Premier League fixtures and could face more depending on their Champions League and FA Cup journeys.

United will no doubt need to keep an eye on Onana’s availability to determine if another goalkeeper signing may be needed during the January transfer window to navigate this tumultuous period.

Hojlund will "probably" make his debut against Arsenal, confirms Denmark head coach

Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has revealed Rasmus Hojlund is expected to make his Manchester United debut against Arsenal this weekend.

Hojlund completed his €72 million move from Atalanta weeks ago but a back injury meant he has not been able to play to date.

When asked about the Dane’s possible debut date, United boss Erik ten Hag has remained tight-lipped, but it would seem that Hojlund’s international boss has spilled the beans.

Denmark have confirmed their squad for the forthcoming internationals against San Marino and Finland, and Hojlund is on the list.

Hjulmand was asked about this and commented:

“I’ve been in Manchester to watch Rasmus train and he’s in full gear, so he’ll probably be in the squad for the weekend.

“There is of course a caveat, and he must show that he is ready this week.”

It might be of concern to United fans that a player with zero minutes this season will immediately be thrust into the cauldron of international football, but Hjulmand was reassuring on that front.

“I have been in Manchester and have some clear agreements with the club,” he told reporters as relayed by The Evening Standard.

“He should preferably get some minutes so that we can see that he’s there.

“He lacks game time, that’s clear, but he’s going to play a role, so we’ll have to see what he can do.”

Christian Eriksen has also been called up for Denmark, as is reported transfer target, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Bombshell: Top four rivals plotting late swoop for £73m United superstar - report

Manchester United are working behind the scenes on multiple outgoings as well as a few incomings and plenty of drama is expected during the final few days of the summer transfer window.

United are still in the market for a midfielder and attacker and following Luke Shaw‘s muscular injury, the club are also looking at bringing in a specialist left-back.

However, following the big-money acquisitions of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, the club have exhausted their transfer kitty and are waiting for outgoings to raise capital for new additions.

United need incomings, but first need to sell players

The likes of Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, and Donny van de Beek are reportedly close to leaving the club while the futures of both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay are uncertain.

A surprise departure could on the cards if London World are to be believed who have mentioned that following Romelu Lukaku’s departure, Chelsea are eyeing a blockbuster move for United winger Jadon Sancho.

“Lukaku’s exit will now afford Chelsea the space and funds to go all out for another forward player, with Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho amongst the attackers that have been looked at by the Chelsea board.”

Sancho is yet to start a game this season but has come on as a substitute on all three occasions. There were plenty of rumours linking the winger earlier in the window.

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and former club Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a swoop for the inconsistent star.

But manager Erik ten Hag is said to still believe in him and reports indicated that unless a mega offer came their way, the Dutchman was open to working with the 23-year-old.

Despite tough times, United will surely not sell Sancho to Chelsea

Not many fans could have envisaged United being open to the prospect of letting the winger leave when they signed him on a £73 million deal two years ago from Dortmund.

But after lighting the Bundesliga on fire, Sancho has failed to replicate the form in his own country and has managed only 12 goals and six assists in two seasons.

Ten Hag has shown remarkable patience with the skilled winger but in a results-oriented business, the manager will be required to make tough decisions moving forward.

Sancho’s time to impress is running out and while United should definitely not strengthen a direct rival this summer, a departure could be on the cards next season if Sancho does not fire this campaign.

What United need with just days left in the transfer window - opinion

With the transfer window slamming shut in the next few days, Manchester United still have work to do for this summer’s business to be considered an ultimate success.

Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have joined the ranks at Old Trafford for a combined fee north of £150millon, yet Erik ten Hag’s squad still looks short.

The United boss will be hoping his board can deliver some last-minute additions to give him the best chance of bridging the gap to the top of the Premier League this season.

It’s clear United are after a combative midfielder to help the team up, who has looked too open in the campaign’s early stages.

Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch are the two names widely linked with moving to Manchester, but official bids are yet to be made. United have also reportedly approached Tottenham regarding the availability of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

Amrabat has been a target for many weeks now, and with Fiorentina ready to sell for a fee of £25million, the player is highly likely to leave Italy this summer.

Ten Hag knows Gravenberch well from his time at Ajax, and Bayern are also willing to do business. Those above would give the manager a more robust option in his engine room.

Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have also forced United to look into the market for a left-back, with both players expected to be out for a prolonged period.

Diogo Dalot can plug the gap for now, but United are thin at the back and need a natural replacement.

A loan deal looks the most sensible given the circumstances, and a raft of players have been linked with the role; Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon, and Lyon’s Nicolas Tagliafico are the front runners, but again, it’s interest rather than concrete offers at this stage.

In an ideal world, Ten Hag would surely also like to add an attacker to ease the load on new signing Hojlund who, at 20 years of age, will have to carry the entire burden of leading the line at Old Trafford this season.

However, United’s much published financial restraints are why the club isn’t able to deliver on the targets as quickly as they would like, and outgoings are still required if Ten Hag is to have his wishes granted.

First-team players such as Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly and former captain Harry Maguire are up for sale, with the Maguire situation in particular in desperate need of a conclusion.

The on-and-off deal with West Ham is causing frustration, with United initially accepting a £30million offer, but Maguire was unwilling to budge.

It now looks as though Maguire has had a change of heart, but if he is to move, it will leave Ten Hag needing another centre-back, which could prove difficult with just days left in the window.

Maguire’s future would be better served away from Old Trafford, but his reluctance to leave when the offer was there has rejected the deal in limbo and hasn’t helped the club or the player.

With multiple issues still to resolve, the club faces another frantic end to the window, leaving fans frustrated that poor planning has left the manager in the position again.

Maguire’s best offer: relegation strugglers ready loan deal with 25% of wages paid - report

Manchester United’s opening three Premier League games have made it crystal clear that the club still needs to strengthen in certain key areas.

Recent injuries to key personnel like Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have further necessitated the need for urgent additions but time is running out.

United have been working with a limited transfer budget this summer and have seemingly exhausted their kitty following the acquisitions of Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund.

United need further reinforcements

Manager Erik ten Hag always wanted an additional attacker and midfielder with a defender also on the list but none of them have worked out so far.

The deal for a defender was mighty close after West Ham United agreed a deal with United for Harry Maguire. However, after failing to agree on a pay-off amount, the England international remained in Manchester.

The former skipper has not made a single appearance thus far and it is clear to see that he is not in the manager’s plans despite Ten Hag’s public messages.

The Peoples Person had reported recently that Everton had re-entered the race for the centre-back and now journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, has an update.

The Toffees have reportedly been in touch with the Red Devils regarding a loan move in which they were prepared to pay 25 percent of his wages or £50,000 per week while the rest would have to be covered by United.

The 20-time English league champions have turned down the offer. Maguire reportedly earns a weekly wage of £189,904 (Spotrac), with the amount increasing due to certain clauses in the defender’s contract.

Everton’s low loan offer rejected

His wages have proved to be a major stumbling block with no team willing to match that pay. Everton are in a financial mess but are desperate to avoid another relegation scrap, hence the interest in the former Leicester City man.

Nixon has even suggested that the Hammers are prepared to come back into the picture with a loan offer with the promise of a higher wage offer than Everton.

A loan move makes no sense at this stage of the window, especially where United cover the majority of the wages. The player wants to keep his wages intact and hence a loan at this stage when he clearly had the option of joining the Hammers earlier.

United should be smart and not agree to such a departure unless it is a permanent one.

Maguire’s potential departure could hand some much-needed funds to the club, which they had planned to use to bring in Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice.

Benjamin Pavard and Kim Min-jae have already eluded United’s grasp due to the uncertainty surrounding Maguire’s future.

With Raphael Varane injured again, United need depth at the back and the 30-year-old could still come in handy.

Ideally, he should have been sold but the club should not agree a loan deal where United end up paying the majority of his wages.

The key reasons why United are right to target Marcos Alonso - opinion

Manchester United are reported to have offered Marcos Alonso a two-year contract as the club continues their hunt for a new left-back. But with other quality options also in the running, why is Alonso the right choice out of the options linked so far?

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both potentially ruled out until November with injury, a new left back has jumped up the list of priorities with the summer window only days from closing.

Diogo Dalot was handed the starting berth in the role on Saturday against Nottingham Forest and played well, as United came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Álvaro Fernández was the only fullback on the bench however. The young Spaniard is appreciated by the coaching staff at Old Trafford but is not considered physically or tactically ready for the Premier League.

He had also been strongly linked with a move to Granada prior to the fullback injury crisis, with Brandon Williams having just departed Old Trafford to rejoin Keiran McKenna at Ipswich on loan.

As such, reports in recent days have indicated United are actively pursuing reinforcements at left-back.

Marc Cucurella and Sergio Reguilón, alongside Marcos Alonso, are said to be the three options Old Trafford officials are exploring. These deals had been thought to just be short-term loan moves however.

As explained by The Peoples Person, United are reported to have offered Alonso a two-year contract. The first of these years would be a loan move, with the suggestion being a second would be on a permanent deal.

Alonso is a defensively suspect fullback but an undoubted attacking force down the left-hand channel.

In his final season with Chelsea (2021/22), Alonso contributed nine goals/assists in the league alone.

Reguilón has accumulated nine goals/assists in his entire Premier League career, while Cucurella clocks in with four goals/assists from his. The contrast is stark.

Part of this productivity stems from Alonso’s ability from set-pieces. With United lacking an effective left-footed specialist for corners and free-kicks, a player with Alonso’s wand of a left foot would be welcome.

The Spaniard also stands 6’2, compared to the 5’8 Reguilón and 5’7 Cucurella. United’s team has grown increasingly smaller under Erik ten Hag and their vulnerability to crosses was evident during Forest’s second goal on Saturday.

And while Alonso’s age – 32 – puts him an unfavourable bracket compared to his Spanish compatriots, his experience relative to theirs is as different as night and day.

Alonso has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup at Chelsea, while playing a key role in securing the La Liga title for Barcelona last season. Reguilón has won just the Europa League and Club World Cup by comparison, while Cucurella has won no titles.

Defensively, however, Alonso is lacking. He struggles against direct wingers and his positioning is often suspect.

Yet neither Reguilón nor Cucurella offer any tangibly better forms of defending. In fact, both fullbacks have arguably been dropped from their respective first teams at Tottenham and Chelsea due to defensive weaknesses.

From this perspective, Alonso’s own defensive failings are not the decisive factor they may seem. If every option has issues defensively, should the player with the best offensive abilities not be prioritised?

If United are to target Reguilón or Cucurella they are welcoming aboard players with no outstanding attributes and some obvious weaknesses. If they target Alonso they are at least bringing in a player with some excellent abilities, even if there are known drawbacks.

The decision between pursuing an offensively strong, but defensively flawed, fullback, instead of two all round below-average alternatives, is an easy one to make.
