Erik ten Hag is hoping that Marcus Rashford will return from his latest injury in time for this season’s run-in.
Mark Critchley from The Athletic says the United boss is especially hopeful he will feature in the FA Cup final on June 3rd against Manchester City.
The United medical team are busy assessing the injury that arose during training last week and ultimately saw him ruled out of the Premier League game against Wolves on Saturday.
Details of Rashford’s latest problem remain vague but it has been recently reported as a ‘leg injury,’ something that the Red Devils hope he can bounce back from soon rather than later.
If truth be told, United have been less reliant on the Englishman’s goals in recent weeks following a poorly-timed dip in form.
Rashford has scored only five times in his last 17 games across all competitions, a worrying statistic when compared to the 16 goals he struck in his first 17 appearances following the World Cup.
Ten Hag is now set to rely upon other forwards. Both Antony Martial and Antony made significant contributions in United’s 2-0 win vs Wolves at the weekend.
Rashford’s absence may also provide an opportunity for Alejandro Garnacho who will relish receiving more playing time following a return from his own injury problems.
However Ten Hag couldn’t confirm when questioned whether his star striker’s injury is a short-term issue or likely to see United’s top goalscorer miss this campaign’s conclusion all together.
“I can’t tell in this moment and as I say, it’s not my focus point in this moment.” Ten Hag responded. “The medical staff is working hard on it, but I am focused, and my team are focusing, on this game.”
United still have three games remaining this season against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham hoping to claim the six points needed to guarantee Champions League football next season.
“I hope [he will be back soon]. Of course. And he will do everything that can be done.”
