The Football Association have released the fees paid to agents in the English Leagues between the dates of 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2023.
As reported on the FA website, fees paid to football agents, otherwise known as Intermediary Fees, relate to payments and transactions involving Intermediaries registered in England.
Across the Premier League, an eye-watering total of £318,219,426 was paid in agents fees between the above dates.
The figure is £45,660,199 higher than last year’s total of £272,559,227.
Manchester United paid £24,726,374 to agents, which places them 4th highest on the list of Premier League clubs.
Manchester City sit at the top of the table, paying more than double that of United (£51,563,571).
Chelsea (second) and Liverpool (third) also sit above United, having spent £43,160,072 and £33,691,782, respectively.
Then come Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa, with Leeds Everton and West Ham United making up the top ten.
Somewhat surprisingly, Nottingham Forest sit bottom of the agent fee table, having shelled out just £4,353,186, despite signing a raft of players.
United forked out £4,309,767 more in agent fees between Feb 2022 and Feb 2023 than they did the year previous (£29,036,141).
Once more, United’s hierarchy overspent in a messy summer market last year, as they scrambled to get players over the line in the final week of the window, which would have played a part in the high fees.
However, with a hopeful sale of the club now in progress, United decision makers will be wanting to act with more efficiency and diligence in the market moving forward.
