Not for sale: United decline yet another record breaking bid for top star

Manchester United have rejected a second bid from Arsenal for Alessia Russo.

Last night the Gunners put in a world record breaking bid for the 23-year old striker which was rejected immediately by the club.

Today the Red Devils further reiterated that Russo was not for sale by turning down the Londoners’ second bid with just two hours to go before the window closes for domestic transfers.

Russo’s contract is up at the end of this season and she turned down an extension last June with the Reds amid rumours it was to do with Champions League football.

United are sitting on the top of the WSL table, ahead of Chelsea on goal difference and don’t want to sell to fellow title contenders.

Although they may lose Russo in summer, selling now would be detrimental to United’s title hopes and the possibility of being in the Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, Jonas Eidevall, Arsenal’s manager, has been vocal about their need to bring in a striker and are pushing to sign either Russo or Signe Bruun before the window closes tonight.

His squad has been decimated by injuries including ACL injuries to Beth Mead and Vivienne Miedema.

Die-hard United fan, Russo, joined United in 2020 and has scored five goals in nine WSL appearances this season.

Fans will be delighted as it seems that their star striker is staying put for now.

If they were to qualify for Champions League and potentially win the league, surely it would be enough to convince Russo to stay in summer.

Despite being linked with Lyon previously, no offer has been made by them in this transfer window.

Incredible deadline activity as European giants make shock swoop for United star - report

Barcelona are considering a deadline day move for Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga.

Elanga, 20, has fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag after he was promoted to the first team last season by Ralf Rangnick.

The young winger has played just 624 minutes of football this season, largely being deployed from the bench.

Facundo Pellistri and Alejandro Garnacho have recently emerged as attacking options since the Dutchman’s arrival.

Everton had been interested in loaning Elanga but Ten Hag, however, rejected this possibility due to an un-ideal club and dressing room environment.

PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund were also linked with the United academy product earlier in the window.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are keen to bolster their options up front at the eleventh hour.

Former United man Memphis Depay transferred to Atletico Madrid last week while Ousmane Dembélé has sustained a thigh injury.

Elanga has, therefore, been linked with a late move to the Catalan giants to supplement Xavi’s forward line.

According to ESPN, Elanga is among the names being considered by the Barca board. The Sweden international has been shortlisted as a possible deadline day signing.

Similar to United, Barca are only able to loan players.

La Liga have confirmed that the salary cap has been reached and the club are consequently unable to register new members into the squad, leading them to seek short-term solutions.

Ten Hag confirms last-minute signing being attempted to replace injured Eriksen

Erik ten Hag says Man United will try to sign a replacement for Christian Eriksen in this transfer window, but it is unlikely.

It was confirmed a few minutes before the presser that Eriksen’s ankle injury is serious and that he is not expected to return to action before the end of April or early May.

This leaves United, who have also lost Donny van de Beek until the end of the season, desperately short of central midfield reinforcement, with only Casemiro, Fred and Scott McTominay left standing.

And speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg match with Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag confirmed:

“On deadline day, it’s difficult. You can’t make policy on such bad injuries. But we have players, good player, we have players that can fill that gap.

“But Christian Eriksen, it’s hard to replace. The final ball.

“We have a strategy. I think we’re developing as a club, as a squad, we make the right progress. We are in a good direction but it has to match our financial frames. We must keep to the strategy.”

“Of course he’s disappointed about it, we are disappointed about it. But it happens in top football. We sooner it (didn’t) happen but it did and you have to deal with it.”

Ten Hag was also asked out about outgoing moves such as Anthony Elanga and Brandon Williams.

“It could be but, it depends on certain circumstances,” he said.

“If so, it would be likely loans.”

United fans will be angry that the club’s owners have been unwilling to sanction a deal in this most extraordinary crisis with United fighting on four fronts.

4-3-3: Sancho to start in this lightning fast line-up vs Forest - prediction

Although Erik ten Hag has resisted the urge to tinker with his Manchester United side this season, he will surely rest a few players against Nottingham Forest tomorrow given that the Red Devils have a 3-0 aggregate lead in the match.

The club has just revealed that Christian Eriksen’s injury is serious – he was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches after Saturday’s match against Reading – so he will definitely be absent.

His midfield partner, Casemiro, is also likely to be rested with more difficult matches on the horizon on Sunday against Crystal Palace and Wednesday against Leeds in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes has also played a lot of football and could be rotated as well.

If Scott McTominay has recovered from the minor knock that kept him out of the weekend’s game, he is likely to return and reform the infamous “McFred” midfield with Brazilian, Fred.

One option that Ten Hag might consider is to have them supported in midfield by Lisandro Martinez, leaving the Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof partnership active behind him.

Raphael Varane could continue in cotton wool until the weekend.

At full back, Diogo Dalot could be available again but if he is, it’s more likely he’s given 30 minutes off the bench than a start. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should once again retain his position.

Luke Shaw could be fit again after a short illness and may also get the last 30 minutes, with Tyrell Malacia starting.

David de Gea will most likely have an evening off, with Tom Heaton the probable replacement. Jack Butland is another option.

There could be a surprise recall for Jadon Sancho on the right wing. Ten Hag said he might have played a part against Reading at the weekend, which means he must be close, even though eventually he didn’t make it onto the pitch on that occasion.

A run out in a low-pressure game might be the perfect opportunity to start his comeback.

Marcus Rashford is another strong contender to be rested, with Alejandro Garnacho champing at the bit to replace him.

This leaves the striker position. There has been no indication as yet as to whether Anthony Martial is nearing fitness, so we expect Wout Weghorst to have to step up once again.

Ten Hag may provide an injury update at his press conference this afternoon, but in the meantime, here is our predicted XI for the game:

Ten Hag will not count on this United star despite injury crisis - report

Manchester United are still fighting on all four fronts and recently progressed through to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a win over Championship side Reading.

But the victory came at a cost as influential midfielder Christian Eriksen had to be substituted following a horror challenge from Andy Carroll.

And he was later spotted leaving Old Trafford in crutches and that has opened up a new can of worms with regards to alternatives that Erik ten Hag at his disposal.

Eriksen replacement needed

The Denmark international has been an ever-present member of Ten Hag’s starting line-up and is the player with the most assists — nine.

With the Glazers set to finally depart, funds are tight and despite links with quite a few midfielders, no major incomings are expected in January.

And that had many speculating as to whether the club would employ academy graduates should the Dane be sidelined for a considerable amount of time.

The likes of Zidane Iqbal and Kobbie Mainoo could provide backup with Fred and Scott McTominay more senior options.

Another option that was mooted was the possible recall of Hannibal Mejbri, who is currently out on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship.

Hannibal will not be recalled

But as per Birmingham Live, the Tunisian will not be brought back and manager John Eustace will still be able to call upon him for the remaining 18 Championship games.

“BirminghamLive has been assured Hannibal will spend the rest of the season at Blues, meaning John Eustace will be able to continue to select the Tunisia international,” the report said.

The 20-year-old has so far made 23 appearances and last Saturday, the Tunisia international provided his fourth assist of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers.

He was selected to be part of the Tunisia squad that played the World Cup in Qatar and played 10 minutes.

Fabrizio Romano explains United's biggest obstacle in Youri Tielemans pursuit

Manchester United are among a number of clubs that have been offered the chance to sign Youri Tielemans before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Other clubs that have been made aware of the Leicester City midfielder’s situation are Arsenal and Liverpool.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reveals, “Manchester United, along with other clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool have been informed of Youri Tielemans’ situation.”

“Leicester will want a big fee [for Tielemans] this month.”

This is not the first time Tielemans has been linked to an Old Trafford switch. During the summer a transfer was on the cards.

Arsenal however was the Belgian’s preferred destination although this did not come to pass.

Tielemans has more than made it clear that he will not sign a new contract with the Foxes.

Unless Leicester sell him between today and tomorrow, they will lose him on a free at the end of the season – an unthinkable situation for a club of Leicester’s standing.

Arsenal, Liverpool and United all require the services of a midfielder that possesses the quality of Tielemans.

Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his midfield alternatives and refresh a stale department in the middle of the park.

Mikel Arteta wants another body to come in and help in his side’s efforts to win the Premier League title. The Gunners have failed in their attempts to sign Brighton’s Moses Caicedo and may turn to Tielemans.

United are now extremely short after Christian Eriksen’s injury against Reading in the FA Cup. Ten Hag has been left with Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Casemiro and Scott McTominay as his only other senior midfield alternatives.

However, Romano’s confirmation that Leicester still want a big fee is a hindrance for the Red Devils.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Pellistri’s future, United fans will be buzzing

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Facundo Pellistri will be offered a new contract with Manchester United.

Romano told United Stand, “He [Pellistri] is doing very well in training. Erik ten hag and the coaching staff are really happy with him.”

He continued, “I am told that there is the possibility that they will discuss a new contract.”

https://mobile.twitter.com/UnitedStandMUFC/status/1620057602242809858?s=20

Pellistri joined United in October 2020 under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In January 2021 he went on loan to Alaves. He returned to the Reds for pre-season before going back to Alaves for the 21/22 season.

The Uruguayan international finally made his professional debut for Manchester United on January 10th this year in Manchester United’s victory over Charlton in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds won 3-0 and he impressed coming on as a substitute and creating chances, assisting United’s second goal, which Rashford scored.

He was also a part of Uruguay’s World Cup squad and the 21 year old put in some promising performances that drew the attention of Ten Hag.

Previously it was reported that a number of clubs were interested in acquiring Pellistri on loan.

His agent teased that a number of clubs around Europe had enquired about his client’s availability, including Bologna and Valencia.

However, it appears the winger isn’t going anywhere as Ten Hag has plans for him at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano explains United's position regarding last-minute midfield signing

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that Manchester United are not currently in talks with any club over a midfielder before tomorrow’s transfer window closes.

Manager Erik ten Hag has made it clear on a number of occasions that he is still hoping to bring in another player before the window closes, but with the clock ticking, it is looking less and less likely that he will get his wish.

Christian Eriksen was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches after the FA Cup clash with Reading on Saturday and if the injury proves to be serious his absence could leave United desperately short of midfield options.

However, Romano remarked that there is “absolutely nothing going on with any midfielder.”

The Italian journalist did however concede that the club could make a last-minute move.

“For Chelsea, by 5pm [last year] they were not in talks with Zakaria. At 7pm, it was a done deal… At the moment, nothing is advanced,” he hedged.

United fans will be angry that especially given the Eriksen situation, nothing is being done.

The club’s owners, the Glazers, are using the excuse that the club is up for sale to close down any chance of signings.

But Liverpool are also up for sale yet have signed United target Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

The Merseysiders are out of the FA Cup and League Cup and far adrift of the Champions League places in the Premier League, yet have strengthened.

United are still fighting on all four fronts and yet Ten Hag would appear to be getting no support from the board.

Maguire could be leaving United following last-minute swoop by Italian gaints - report

Manchester United have been making considerable progress under new manager Erik ten Hag, bravely battling away on four different fronts, hoping to end more than a half-decade long spell without any silverware.

The Red Devils are unlikely to have any incomings before the Tuesday deadline, with the Glazers reluctant to loosen the purse strings as a future sale beckons this summer.

There are however a number of players who have been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, ahead of the window slamming shut.

One such man, possibly on the verge of an exit, is captain Harry Maguire.

The English centre back has found playing time hard to come by under Ten Hag, having started just three games for United since returning from the World Cup.

This has led to a number of enquiries for the 29-year-old, but Erik ten Hag has maintained he wants Maguire to stay and fight for his place.

The Dutchman told ITV: ‘I already said yesterday [in the pre-match press conference] he was ill when he returned from the World Cup, otherwise, he should have played a couple of games. But you have to play to get back into the rhythm.

‘He did already play some games, but I think this is a good game for him to return in, especially when you see the height of the opponent. He had some chances. But every player has to pick their chances.

‘He is training very well, training very dominant. And that is what I want to see from him. He is a leader and captain and I have big expectations of him.

‘[But] it’s not just about Harry. As a team, we want to achieve, we want to achieve a result this season. We need a squad. So every player has to make a performance, has to give the best he has.’

In the wake of Milan Skriniar’s recently announced move to PSG, Daily Mail reports that Italian giants, Inter Milan, have supposedly marked the United skipper out as a like-for-like replacement for the Slovakian International.

Inter do not have the finances to make any permanent deal at the moment, but a loan move could happen, if Maguire pushes hard enough for it, hoping to emulate another United old boy, Chris Smalling, by moving to Italy and resurrecting his career.

The Nerazzurri had previously sought the services of Maguire’s long term partner at CB, Victor Lindelof, but United were quick to rebuff their advances.

It will be interesting to see whether they can halt another CB in his prime from moving to the Italian shores.

United consider audacious deadline day swoop following Eriksen injury

Manchester United progressed through to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a commanding 3-1 victory over Championship side Reading on Saturday.

However, the win came at a cost as Christian Eriksen had to be substituted following a nasty tackle from Andy Carroll, who was not even booked for his misdemenour.

The Dane was spotted leaving Old Trafford in crutches and Erik ten Hag is yet to give an update as to how long the Denmark international will be out of action for.

Eriksen injury a huge blow

The 30-year-old has been an ever-present figure in United’s starting line-up and a long-term injury could be a devastating blow.

Eriksen joined on a free and while many thought he would be a back-up option, Ten Hag has played him in almost all games and he leads the charts among United players for the most assists — nine.

Depending on how long Eriksen will be sidelined for, United could possibly look at making midfield additions. But those will have to be low-cost or on loan due to the Glazers possibly leaving this year.

This was conformed by Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who told GIVEMESPORT, “Christian Eriksen went off on crutches when he left Old Trafford last night after the victory against Reading in the FA Cup.

“Depending on how serious that is would dictate whether United try and go into the market for a loan. I think for a big, big signing, it looks very unlikely with only a couple of days to go.”

United could bring in a midfielder if Eriksen injury is serious

Both Scott McTominay and Fred do not possess the passing range to make up for the former Tottenham Hotspur man’s absence.

Other options include academy graduates like Kobbie Mainoo, Zidane Iqbal or a possible recall from his loan spell for Hannibal Mejbri.

Ten Hag has hinted at being open to bringing in players should the right player become available and The Peoples Person had written about possible players who could be brought in as cover.

One of the best signings that the club could make this late in the window is a move for Leicester City’s out-of-contract star Youri Tielemans.

United were linked with him in the summer and were said to be in a race with Arsenal for the Belgium international but the Gunners have since moved on to other targets.

56 goals, 46 assists: United's talisman is just getting started

Over the last decade, Manchester United’s transfer activity has left a lot to be desired.

A raft of high profile names have strolled through the doors at Old Trafford, with many failing to live up to the billing.

Alexis Sanchez, Radamel Falcao, Romelu Lukaku, Angel di Maria are examples of big names that have come and gone, leaving behind very little fond memories.

However, three years ago today, United did get one right – Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder signed from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £47 million.

Since then, Bruno has established himself as United’s ‘go to guy’.

His impact was immediate as he picked up the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award at the end of the 2020 season – an impressive feat considering he had signed midway through the campaign.

The following season, Bruno played a key role in helping United reach the final of the Europa League, which despite ending in defeat to Villarreal, remains United’s last appearance in a major final.

His second full campaign was one to forget for the whole club, with United finishing sixth in the Premier League after a desperate season which saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the man who brought Fernandes to Old Trafford, sacked.

The introduction of Erik ten Hag this season has breathed new life into the club, and Fernandes. Bruno has rediscovered his form, captaining the side for the majority of the season.

Fernandes has now racked up 155 appearances for United, scoring 56 goals and providing 46 assists – the only thing missing is a trophy.

This is something he will be desperate to put right come the end of this campaign with United favourites to lift the Carabao Cup and still very much involved in the FA Cup and Europa League.

A Premier League crown might be too much to ask this season but no doubt Bruno will be a driving force in United’s charge back to the top of English football in the coming years.

United land sensational young striker in brilliant transfer coup - David Ornstein

On the 30th of October, 1937, Manchester United lined up against Fulham at Craven Cottage, on a night that would forever go down in history.

In that side were the duo of Tom Manley and Jack Wassall, two academy players whose names have entered United folklore.

Since that fateful day, 86 years ago, the Red Devils have continued their proud tradition of fielding a homegrown player in every matchday squad, league, cup, or otherwise.

It is this legacy of youth that would form the pillars of future successes of Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Babes and the Fledglings dominated the game for decades at a stretch, winning multiple major honours, gathering envious glances from the rest of Europe.

United have continued to rely heavily upon the young lads from Carrington, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Elanga, Scott McTominay and recently, Kobiee Mainoo all playing a major part in proceedings this term.

Now, United have added another fresh face to their youth, that is according to transfer-guru David Ornstein, who wrote in his transfer column for the Athletic, that the Red Devils have completed a deal for Cardiff City’s striking sensation, Gabriele Biancheri.

The 16-year-old has initially put pen to paper on a scholar contract, and will sign a long-term pro-contract when he turns 17 in September.

The Welsh U-17 international, who also qualifies to represent England and Italy, completed his medical over the weekend, and will finalise his transition before Tuesday’s deadline.

United have held a long standing interest in Biancheri, who was also being chased by a whole host of other top sides.

The youngster made his debut for Cardiff U-18’s last year, aged just 15, and was soon promoted to the U-21s, where he has continued to bang in the goals for the Bluebirds despite his tender age.

Biancheri’s remarkable ability and goalscoring prowess has eventually forced United’s hand, as they scrambled to complete the deal long before the January deadline has passed, despite the move being a distinct possibility post the 31st.

With Erik ten Hag at the helm, youth will always get a chance, as evidenced by his spell at Amsterdam, and Biancheri will know that if he can hit the ground running, he could force his way into his manager’s plans sooner rather than later.

Clever Rashford uses his head again, could make him millions - report

Marcus Rashford could be set to make millions after moving to trademark his new goal celebration.

Rashford has recently been pointing to his head with his right finger whenever he has found the back of the net.

The Englishman is currently in red-hot form and has scored ten times in his last 11 games for United.

Yesterday night against Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup, the 25-year-old thought he got on the score sheet after a brilliant headed finish, but a Wout Weghorst offside in the build-up to the goal saw the goal chalked off by the referee.

Rashford’s celebration has taken the football world by storm and is now one of the most recognizable features not only in England but also overseas.

A number of football stars have copied the United academy graduate’s iconic celebration.

Newcastle’s Joelinton, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich are just a few who have taken it up.

English cricketer Jofra Archer also recently performed Rashford’s celebration and even paid homage to the United number 10 in a viral social media post.

The most recent sports figure to emulate the United man is Novak Djokovic, who won the 2023 Australian Open.

The Sun reports, “His [Rashford’s] finger salute is a nod to boss Erik ten Hag, who has instilled a positive mental attitude in Rashford.”

“Rashford has applied to the UK’s Intellectual Property Office to trademark a silhouette design.”

“If passed, the patent would protect against bootlegs for ten years on everything from computer games and digital images to sports gear, clothing, shoes, phone cases, books educational and motivational services.”

Unstoppable United scrap their way to victory against the Black Cats

Manchester United Women have beaten Sunderland 2-1 in the FA Cup.

Sunderland made a strong and physical start to the game, pushing forward and making some good challenges.

Despite Sunderland’s energy, United did get an early shot off from Parris but she was flagged offside.

Blundell went on a fantastic run, dodging the Sunderland midfielders that looked to make a challenge. She fed it through to Williams on the edge of the area but one on one with the keeper, she couldn’t chip it over the shot-stopper. It went up in the air and Toone tried to head it in but it landed on the roof of the net.

United were growing into this game and had a number of opportunities from a corner as Toone took a shot that was well blocked followed by Williams but again Sunderland put their bodies on the line to deny the visitors.

United were wondering how on earth they hadn’t broken the deadlock as the pressure they kept up was relentless. They had chance after chance around the 28 minute mark but no one could bundle it over the line as Sunderland again made some crucial blocks.

In the 39th minute Parris made the breakthrough that was needed. A cross floated in from Batlle and Parris waiting centrally in the box hit a side footed volley past the keeper.

On the stroke of half-time, an opportunity presented itself to Toone but unfortunately the keeper saved and managed to pounce on the loose ball before United could turn it in.

United showed more attacking intent in the second half but it looked like it may be another frustrating half of missed opportunities.

A chance came for Williams following a short corner from United but her header was just wide.

Another attempt from United saw some brilliant link up play to penetrate Sunderland’s defensive line but the resulting shot was tame and straight at the keeper.

Completely against the run of play, Sunderland equalised from a corner. They crowded out Earps and managed to head it into the net.

United responded instantly, Nikita Parris again, found herself in a prime position in the six yard box and fired it high into the back of the net, assisted by Boe Risa.

Cascarino was introduced for her United debut just before the Reds’ second goal and almost made an instant impact as she had the chance to get a shot away but it curled just wide.

Cascarino had another chance four minutes from time as she received the ball in space in the area but she blasted it over the bar. In a moment that highlighted the differences in women’s football and in the two teams positions in the football league, the ball was lost as it landed on the roof of a bungalow and bounced off into the garden of a neighbouring house.

United didn’t make it easy but it was a good win for them to progress in the FA Cup. A glimpse of Cascarino shows that she may have a very promising future with the Reds.

Team: Earps, Batlle, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell, Toone, Boe Risa, Zelem, Parris (Garcia 82), Thomas (Cascarino 68), Williams

Tactical expert says De Gea is costing United goals for this reason

David de Gea has come under fresh scrutiny following the goal United conceded against Reading yesterday.

Despite the Red Devils running out comfortable 3-1 winners of the FA Cup 4th round tie, the goal against was a reminder of the side’s defensive fragility.

Tactical analyst @StatmanCam feels the blame for the goal falls squarely on De Gea’s shoulders.

Responding to a tweet saying that the Reading corner was “the easiest claimed cross I’ve ever seen,” the analyst said:

“Generally any cross in the 6 yard box should be claimed by the GK unless it’s got ridiculous pace on it.

“Instead, we have to pack the 6yd box with extra zonal markers so we have fewer blockers. Hence we can’t follow every run and sometimes players will get free.”

Watching the goal again, it is hard to argue that the Spaniard should have been able to easily pluck the ball from the air. It was, indeed, within the six yard box and arrived at a gentle pace.

The analysis of United packing the six yard box to defend corners is an interesting one. Often the centre backs, especially Maguire and Lindelof, or other outfield players, get the blame for allowing the player – in yesterday’s example, the Royals’ Amadou Salif Mbengue – to have got free.

But the idea that the problem emanates from their having to defend an area that should be handled by the keeper, leaving the rest of the area understaffed, is an interesting one.

Talks over a new contract between De Gea and United are ongoing. It is understood that the player is willing to take a salary reduction but even if the £375,000 per week deal were to be cut in half, which is unlikely, United would still have one of the world’s most expensive goalkeepers on their books.

Much has been written about the 32 year old’s poor distribution but his command of the area may also be an issue if the analyst is right.

He is undoubtedly one of the world’s best shot stoppers and has saved United points on countless occasions, but despite efforts to re-educate him to adapt better to the modern game, yesterday’s goal adds to the evidence that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and that indirectly, he may also be regularly costing points as well.

"He’s obviously got a trick": United star has his fiercest critic purring

Manchester United put in a commanding display in the second-half as they eased past Championship side Reading 3-1 to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

It was the three Brazilians that shone the brightest with Casemiro scoring a brace while Antony produced his first assist of the season.

While the former Real Madrid man rightfully took home all the plaudits, Fred‘s introduction as a substitute helped United take control as he grabbed a goal and an assist.

Fred shining under ETH

The goal was a thing of beauty as he flicked the ball past the helpless Reading goalie from a quick corner taken by Bruno Fernandes.

Since the World Cup break, the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has been instrumental in United’s good form.

Erik ten Hag has used him as a substitute when he needed goals and played him from the beginning in big games against teams that like to keep hold of the ball.

Fred’s United career has never truly taken off and he is a much-maligned figure among fans and pundits who were tired of seeing him and Scott McTominay start games for the Red Devils.

But the former Ajax boss has clearly figured out the best way to use Fred and the team are certainly reaping the benefits.

One of his fiercest critics has been United legend Roy Keane. The former midfielder used to regularly lambast Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for picking the Brazilian midfielder.

Keane all praise for Fred

But after the Reading game, Keane was effusive in his praise for the 29-year-old.

He told ITV Sport, “That’s probably what I think is his role – coming off the bench, particularly in games like this when the game is done.

“Reading fall asleep at a corner, United have looked a bit better on set pieces recently. He just walks in there, he’s obviously got a trick, lovely little finish. Poor from Reading, but lovely little finish.”

Fred recently became United’s most capped Brazilian, making 184 appearances.

Worried Ten Hag confirms the injury news United fans have been dreading

Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Christian Eriksen’s fitness.

The Danish midfielder was taken off around the 57th minute mark against Reading in the FA Cup yesterday evening.

Eriksen has become an intrinsic part to Manchester United’s midfield, already featuring 31 times across all competitions under Ten Hag since he signed as a free agent in July. The only fixture he has not been involved in so far was against Newcastle United in October.

Prior to his substitution, Eriksen was on the receiving end of a horrendous challenge by Andy Carroll.

Neither the referee nor VAR saw fit to penalise Carroll’s mixed martial arts-esque scissoring attack on Eriksen’s legs.

Carroll was later sent off after receiving a second booking for a late slide tackle on Casemiro.

After the match, a fan captured video footage of Eriksen leaving Old Trafford on crutches, as reported by The Peoples Person.

Aside from his cardiac arrest in 2021 which kept him out of the game for almost one year, Eriksen’s most recent injury was an abdominal strain in 2018.

Ten Hag spoke to the press about the 30-year-old’s physical state following his premature substitution. The Dutchman said:

“It is always difficult to say so short after the game finished, but it is an ankle injury, and we have to see what is the diagnosis.”

Although undefined as of yet, if the injury is more serious than mere impact United can expect to lose Eriksen for at least three weeks.

Mid-low grade ankle sprains take three – five weeks to heal, whilst moderate sprains can take up to six weeks to properly mend, according to Healthline. A severe ankle injury can see someone in the recovery room for three – six months.

The other options in midfield are noticeably underwhelming outside of Eriksen and Casemiro with Ten Hag having to choose from Fred or Scott McTominay. 17-year-old Kobbie Mainoo has also been drafted into the first team picture recently.

United next face Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in the second leg of the semi-final (first leg: 3 – 0).

United target closes the door to Old Trafford switch in latest public stunt

Former Manchester United target Moises Caicedo has made it clear he wants to join Chelsea or Arsenal as the two London clubs battle it out for his signature.

Caicedo was linked to United before moving to Brighton.

The Red Devils were interested in bringing the Ecuadorian from Independiente del Valle but a transfer failed to materialize.

Brighton secured his services and the rest is history. Caicedo broke into the starting XI under Graham Potter and is now one of the Seagulls’ most important players.

The midfielder has been linked to United on a number of occasions since he broke through at the Amex Stadium.

It now seems that Chelsea and Arsenal are firmly in the driving seat for the player.

Yesterday, David Ornstein reported that Arsenal have put in a bid of £60m for Caicedo, which Brighton have rejected.

Arsenal’s bid came after Chelsea also offered £55m for the player, with a reunion with Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge being mooted.

Caicedo took to social media to express his desire to leave Brighton and grab the once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity to play for a top club like Arsenal or Chelsea.

His statement read in part, “My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador. I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.”

“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”

Ornstein gave an update on the Caicedo transfer saga and stated that he did not attend training today. Brighton have told him to stay home until February 1st when the transfer window shuts. He is expected to remain at his current club for the remainder of the season.

United officials sensationally accuse Ratcliffe of tyre kicking over United purchase

Manchester United club chiefs are worried that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has no intention of meeting their high valuation to sell the club.

Recently, the Ineos billionaire publicly declared through a spokesperson that he will be involved in the bidding process to purchase United.

Ratcliffe’s announcement was met with mixed reactions. They are those who are supportive of the move while others have shared their reservations.

Gary Neville already threw his weight behind Ratcliffe. Greenpeace, an environmentalist organization, issued a statement urging United not to consider Ratcliffe’s bids.

Greenpeace argued that Ineos’ role in destroying the environment should not be ignored.

According to The Mail, club officials at United are also wary of Ratcliffe’s intentions.

The Mail relays, “Manchester United officials have been privately scathing about Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plans to bid for the club.”

“They are convinced the INEOS owner has no intention of meeting the Glazer family’s demand for offers in excess of £6 billion.”

“United are convinced the company’s main concern is securing positive publicity.”

Ratcliffe is the only party that has come forward to confirm his interest in taking over the reins at United, a club he has supported since his boyhood days.

Interest is however expected from other parts of the world including the USA, the Middle East and Asia. Several reports have warned about ruling out the involvement of a sovereign wealth fund.

The prospect of owning United appeals to the world’s most affluent individuals and corporations, who are attracted to the club’s commercial value drawn from its massive worldwide fanbase.

Ten Hag's summer plans already scuppered by rivals' capture of young star

Malo Gusto is scheduled for a medical with Chelsea after a €30 million transfer fee was agreed with Olympique Lyonnais.

Gusto, 19, will rejoin Lyon on loan until the end of the season as part of the deal.

The French right-back had been linked with United since last summer and has continued to be included in reports surrounding a move to Old Trafford this January.

Erik ten Hag was keen to reinforce his options at right-back during the summer given Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s insecure place in the squad and Brandon Williams’ long injury spell.

The young Frenchman emerged as a target due to his offensive-minded style and ability to play in various areas of the pitch, two aspects fitting with Ten Hag’s Total Football ideals.

As part of an astronomical sweep across the transfer window, Todd Boehly is on the verge of making Gusto his newest signing, according to various media outlets.

Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport has reported that Gusto has already arrived in London ahead of his medical at Chelsea.

He will remain in Ligue 1 until the end of the season at Lyon, where former Red Laurent Blanc is manager.

With a dreadfully limited bank balance, United will have to wait until the summer to make any more significant moves in terms of incoming players. The Glazer family is seeking a full sale of the club.

Although reports suggested that United had asked Gusto to wait until the summer, Chelsea have used their rivals’ unsure and precarious financial and ownership situation to convince Gusto that pastures are fresher in London.

César Azpilicueta’s approaching contract expiration (June 2024) and Reece James’ injury struggles would also appeal to Gusto’s aspirations of becoming a Premier League starting right-back.

Diogo Dalot had been one of United’s most impressive and consistent performers prior the World Cup whilst Wan-Bissaka has made a recent resurgence in the team.

Meanwhile, Ethan Laird, 21, continues to gain plaudits on loan at Queen’s Park Rangers in the Championship.

United eyeing summer move for flying €100million Serie A winger - report

Manchester United have progressed a lot this season under Erik ten Hag with the club still competing on all four fronts.

Talks of a title charge flickered after some impressive results but a couple of poor performances meant those have fizzled out with many pointing out the lack of squad depth as a major reason.

The Dutch manager knows the importance of recruiting well next season if the club are to take the next step in their evolution.

United monitoring Juventus situation

The Red Devils are monitoring with interest the situation surrounding Juventus after their 15-point penalty for orchestrating a transfer scam over three seasons.

The Turin-based club are in danger of missing out on Champions League football and that could dent the club’s financial prospects and their ability to attract top talent and hold on to their big stars.

Already, rumours have been rife that Dusan Vlahovic is among Ten Hag’s targets and now, Federico Chiesa’s name has also entered the fray.

It has been a difficult period recently for the Italy international with Chiesa recently recovering from an ACL injury that he had picked up last year.

But the 25-year-old recently finally opened his account for the season, by scoring against Monza in the Coppa Italia. And that has sprung the rumour mill into action.

“The winger seems to have finally returned to his level (ask Monza ), and in view of next summer there could be the onslaught of Manchester United,” a report from Calcio Mercato said.

Chiesa could solve United’s right-wing problems

The report also states that Ten Hag is hell-bent on taking United back to the top and they will not be scared off with his price tag of €100million.

“The ‘Red Devils’ are returning to the top of the Premier League with ten Hag and, among their next targets, the former Fiorentina player cannot be excluded. About 100 million euros could end up on the plate, Juve has already been warned.”

The Italian has also been linked with a move to Liverpool with Mohamed Salah’s future still uncertain.

Right wing is one position where United are short of options at the moment and Chiesa could definitely solve that issue. He has been a long-term United target ever since his days at Fiorentina.

Elanga looks set to join surprise club on loan after last minute swoop - report

Manchester United face Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup later tonight, with the Red Devils still actively gunning for four trophies under new manager Erik ten Hag.

A number of first team players are likely to be rested for the visit of the Royals, with United facing a gruelling fixture list in the upcoming days and weeks ahead.

One player that will be hoping to feature in the Cup tie is Anthony Elanga.

The 20-year-old quickster has found playing time hard to come by in recent months, having to settle mostly for substitute appearances towards the dying moments of the game as an impact sub.

He has made just seven starts for United under Ten Hag, which has led to a number of clubs eyeing up the Swedish International on a loan deal, one that could reignite his stagnating young career.

Elanga was previously linked to Everton, before Frank Lampard’s eventual sacking, and even to Borussia Dortmund, before Youssoufa Moukoko’s much anticipated contract extension.

He is now reportedly being lined up by Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, as they look desperately to fill some of the gaping holes in their squad, after the likes of Cody Gakpo and Noni Madueke were snapped up by Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively.

The 24-time Eredivisie Champions are currently managed by United old boy Ruud van Nistelrooy and the former Dutch striker recently spoke out about his side’s visible foray into the market in search of new attackers.

Speaking during a press conference, the 46-year-old said to Dutch outlet VI,

“Of course I can’t name names, but we are working hard on it [signing players], because it is necessary.”

Another former United academy graduate, Adnan Januzaj, is also on PSV’s radar, with the Belgian International having failed to nail down a place in Sevilla’s first team after his summer switch from Real Sociedad.

Despite being one of the brighter lights during a dismal season last term, much like Januzaj under David Moyes in 2013/14, Elanga has managed a paltry four goals and four assists in 48 games for United thus far.

Alejandro Garnacho’s instant success coupled with Facundo Pellistri’s recent rise has pushed him further down the pecking order, and he needs to quickly find his feet if he is to still have a career at Old Trafford in the near future.

A loan deal to PSV might be the optimal solution. The Dutch club have been scoring goals for fun this season, and if there’s one guy that can show you where the back of the net is, it is Elanga’s would-be-manager at Eindhoven, Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

One to watch out for.

Popular star has convinced Ten Hag to keep him despite limited minutes - Sky Sports

Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims that Manchester United are already considering a permanent deal for Wout Weghorst.

The towering centre forward is currently on loan from Burnley, having cut short his spell at Besiktas to play at Old Trafford.

And the Red Devils are said to already be very impressed with Weghorst after only a couple of weeks at the club.

“I’m told that Manchester United are delighted with how Wout Weghorst has settled in,” Solhekol told the Sky Sports transfer show.

“A lot of people were surprised when they made a move for him, but Erik ten Hag felt a player of Weghorst’s profile was needed at the club.

“We all know that he signed on loan until the summer, and the sense I get from what the player himself said yesterday is that he wants to stay as long as possible and he is doing everything right at the moment.

“United are delighted with what he is doing both on and off the pitch and I’m told he is a model professional. Even though they are looking to sign a No 9 in the summer, he may well be kept on in any case.”

The Peoples Person went into detail on the professionalism and work ethic of Weghorst prior to his signing for the club, and it appears as though those expectations are proving to be sound.

His attitude and intensity are plain to see on the pitch, with the former Wolfsburg striker pressing relentless in all three matches he has played in so far.

The goal against Nottingham Forest will hopefully be the first of many, with Weghorst showing a poacher’s instincts to react quickest to the rebound.

If he continues with his positive energy on and off the pitch, there is no reason United would not be interested in keeping him at Old Trafford.

Weghorst is certainly hoping that an offer does come in, although he is well aware that he has work to do in order to earn it.

It may end up being an interesting case of catch twenty-two regarding a permanent deal, however.

As reported by The Peoples Person, United did not inherit the 10m option to buy that was present for Besiktas when they took over Weghorst’s loan deal.

That could end up making it difficult for the Red Devils to sign him should he exceed expectations during his temporary deal.

The better he plays; the more money Burnley will want.

United's cool defensive supremo agrees new contract after sizzling form

Manchester United defender Millie Turner has signed a contract extension with the club, keeping her there until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Turner joined the club in 2018 for their inaugural season and made her debut in August that year when United beat Liverpool 1-0 in the League Cup.

The 26 year old has made 97 appearances for the Reds.

She has also scored six goals including the 85th minute equaliser in United’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal earlier on this season.

Despite spending a few months on the sidelines towards the end of last season due to injury, Turner has consistently been one of United’s best players, defending resolutely at the back.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Turner said, “I’m so happy to extend my contract. It’s the club that I want to be at – I don’t want to be anywhere else.”

She continued, “I just can’t wait to continue this journey; I think we’ve got something really special here. There’s no ceiling to what we can achieve, and I want to win trophies here.”

Meanwhile, manager Marc Skinner said, “Millie is a player who optimises what it is to play for Manchester United, on and off the field. Her personal journey is one that fully deserves this new contract, and we are delighted that her energy, enthusiasm, and all-round quality will remain a part of our special group.”

This will be an encouraging sign to Reds fans who have expressed concern online over the number of players who are soon to be out of contract.

It seems United have brought in new signings and are now beginning to negotiate contracts with their current players.

Also out of contract soon are Alessia Russo, Hayley Ladd, Ona Batlle and Mary Earps to name a few.

Fans will relax now that one of the integral players within the team has committed for another two years.

The cold hard truth behind United star’s red-hot form explained

Last season, Marcus Rashford scoring was a welcome surprise. This season, it’s become almost an eventuality. The Manchester United man can’t stop scoring, with his latest finish coming against Nottingham Forest, in the semi-final first leg of the Carabao Cup.

The goal takes his streak to 10 goals in 10 games since his return from the World Cup (via The Daily Mail). United are currently making their way through an intense run of games as the only English team still battling in four competitions.

The proof is in the pudding

Before Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham, Rashford shared one of the secrets to his recovery – a black and white photo of himself in a cryosauna, aptly captioned ‘recovery.’

The treatment seems to be working wonders as the Red Devils no.10 capped off a scintillating solo run with a cool finish to give United the lead against Forest. United went on to win the game 3-0.

Recovery hack of elite athletes

According to Sportsmail, Rashford uses the cryosauna at the luxury health club CPASE in Mobberley, Cheshire.

The gym, voted best in the UK this month, is close to the 25-year-old’s £ 2.5 million home, which is still under construction.

Ex-United star Cristiano Ronaldo also posted a photo using the same cryosauna last year.

Part of the attraction of the health club is undoubtedly exclusivity and privacy. The gym’s joining fee costs £350, while the membership rate amounts to £ 295 a month.

The cryosauna itself is reportedly worth about £50,000.

While Rashford braved a chilling minus 113 degrees Celsius, temperatures can go as low as minus 140.

Why the chill

Claims suggest that a cryosauna boosts an athlete’s performance by improving pain relief, muscle strength, rate of healing, and even ‘immunity, focus, and mood.’

One to three sessions per week is the recommended frequency of use. If an individual exceeds that limit, they are advised to take a break of up to three months after 30 treatments.

Progress in plain sight

Rashford endured the worst season of his career last season but has done a complete 180 this season. Tearing apart defences with pacey direct attacking play and clinical finishing, he has notched 21 goals for club and country.

The fruits of Rashford’s off-season labour are plain to see. This season he’s sporting a well-conditioned, lean figure and a renewed eye for goal that is likely a by-product of his individual work and the one-on-one coaching he has received from new United attacking coach Benni McCarthy.

Even new United signee and attacking partner Wout Weghorst already values Rashford’s ability and work ethic. On Wednesday, he said, “You see the great run he’s on, he’s delivering, and every week you see it in training.”

No wonder boss Erik ten Hag is prepared to build his team around Rashford to restore United to its former glory as the best in the world.
