"A no-brainer": Former England star makes stunning United transfer admission

Since taking over the reins at Manchester United. new manager Erik ten Hag has solved a number of problem positions at the club, most notably improving the leaky defence.

Apart from some fine recruitment, the Dutch boss has also helped rejuvenate the careers of previously under-performing stars like Marcus Rashford.

From not being part of the national team since the previous edition of the Euros to scoring thrice in the group stages of the World Cup, Rashford owes a lot to Ten Hag.

DDG’s woes

One player who has not managed to break into the national scheme of things despite improving his on-pitch performances is United goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Spaniard started the season off in terrible fashion but has since regained his form and has made crucial interventions to keep his team in the contest.

However, his familiar failings with the ball at his feet and his reluctance to leave the line have not helped his cause with both Ten Hag and Spain coach Luis Enrique not the biggest fan of the Spanish international.

Adding to the conjecture surrounding his future at United is the fact that his contract lasts till 2023 with the Red Devils still considering whether to activate the one-year extension clause in his contract.

The 20-time English champions have been linked with a vast number of shot-stoppers around Europe and one of the surprising names to have been linked with a move to Old Trafford is Jordan Pickford.

The Everton shot-stopper has been a regular feature in Everton’s starting line-up over the years but according to former England international David James, the 28-year-old needs to move to a top club to reach a higher level.

Just like Aaron Ramsdale’s career graph has sky-rocketed following his move to Arsenal from Sheffield United, Pickford could have a similar effect.

Could Pickford be the answer?

“I think Aaron Ramsdale has proven that the quality of the team around you will influence the quality of your performances.

He’s a potential number-one for his country because he’s playing for a much better side,” James was quoted as saying by GGRecon.

“Jordan Pickford, when he’s playing for England, plays how he would if he played for a big side in the Premier League. It’s a no-brainer for me.

“Why not Manchester United? Jordan Pickford plays for Everton and Manchester United are just down the road. If he went there, his off-field disruption would be minimal compared to whether he moved down to London.”

Not just United, but even Chelsea have been linked with a move for the England No 1 with Graham Potter looking to solve the goalkeeping conundrum at the Blues.

While Pickford has certainly done well for the Three Lions in major competitions, it remains to be seen whether he can become the permanent answer for Ten Hag in a troublesome position.

Fabrizio Romano says goal machine wanted by United is "expected to leave"

Cody Gakpo has dropped a huge hint that he will be leaving PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window amidst interest from Manchester United, with reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano adding yet more fuel to the fire.

The Dutch forward was asked about the speculation surrounding his future and was quoted by RMC Sport as saying, “As things stand, I will still play for PSV after the winter break.

“But as I said before the start of the World Cup: we’ll see what happens.”

The winger has certainly done nothing to quiet the rumours by essentially telling fans to ‘watch this space.’ With Erik ten Hag a keen admirer, Old Trafford seems to be his most likely destination.

And journalist Romano claims that, “His agents are already working on a potential transfer — as he’s expected to leave PSV in 2023.”

Gakpo was in contact with Man United in the summer over a potential move but in the end the club spent their budget elsewhere, with Antony signing from Ajax in a deal worth around £85m.

With Cristiano Ronaldo recently leaving the club, the Red Devils’ need for attacking reinforcements has come into sharp focus.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are the only attackers who started the season as senior players and stayed available more often than not.

Anthony Martial has gone from one injury to the next while Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho are both in the early stages of their careers.

But more than anything else, this Manchester United side are lacking in goals this term.

United have scored just twenty goals so far in the Premier League, meaning they have been outscored by all but one team in the top half of the table, as well as two outside it.

A €60m deal for an attacker who seemingly can’t stop scoring makes a lot of sense in that context.

Gakpo has scored 15 times for PSV this season across all competitions and has taken his sensational form onto the World Cup stage to boot, scoring in all of the Netherlands’ group stage games to help secure qualification to the knockouts.

"We've been told..." - Simon Phillips shares fresh claim on £150m "priority target" for Chelsea

Whilst Declan Rice is a “priority target” for Chelsea, the west London club stand “no chance” of prising him away from West Ham midway through the season.

What’s the word?

That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who understands that the England international is at the top of Chelsea’s wish list as the January transfer window draws ever closer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “We’ve been told for months now that Rice is going to be a priority target for Chelsea come the summer. There’s no chance, I don’t think, of him moving in January.”

January disaster looming

Chelsea are in desperate need of a boost as we head closer to the resumption of the Premier League season, and that could have been achieved with the high-profile coup of West Ham skipper Rice.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have leaked 17 league goals already this season, which is uncharacteristic considering that it is already just over half of the 33 goals that they conceded across 38 games last term,- which ranked them as the third-best defence in the league in 2021/22.

With his average of 8.32 ball recoveries per game across the last year placing him in the 94th percentile among midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues, the £150m-valued Rice would be an integral addition in Graham Potter’s engine room, possessing quality throughout both attacking and defending phases.

As far as Phillips is concerned, though, this will not materalise, at least not during the winter.

It could be a January transfer disaster for Chelsea as they lag behind in the race for a Champions League berth, although they will likely test West Ham’s resolve in the summer in any event.

"Exceptional player" who wowed Old Trafford wanted by United says Tier 1 journalist

When Erik ten Hag took over the reins at Manchester United, he had a major rebuilding job on his hands. Not only in terms of recruitment but rebuilding the confidence of several under-performing stars.

And the Dutchman seems to be on the right track in terms of both. Already, supporters have seen a huge improvement in the performance levels of players like Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot.

The recruitment part remains an ongoing process. He has definitely transformed a leaky defence through the signings of Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.

Midfield reinforcements needed

But work remains to be done in the midfield and further up front. The Red Devils did sign Casemiro for big money as well as Christian Eriksen but due to the age of both stars, it is important for the club to look at younger options.

One player who has been of interest to the club for some time now is Brighton Hove and Albion star Moises Caicedo. He was first a target back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.

But in the end, the club did not follow up that interest and the Ecuador star ultimately ended up signing for the Seagulls from Independiente del Valle.

And since then, the 21-year-old has been a revelation in the Premier League and has been a regular member of the starting XI this season.

According to Sky Germany, Ten Hag is keen on adding the Ecuadorian to his ranks. “MUFC is planning to enter the race! Bosses highly interested,” tweeted Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The journalist also mentioned that Liverpool are also in the race and consider the defensive midfielder as the ideal replacement in case they cannot complete the signing of Jude Bellingham.

Caicedo on Ten Hag’s radar

“Also on the list of Liverpool – next to Bellingham – & spotted by many other top clubs. Team mates say he is an “exceptional player & character”,” the journalist further tweeted.

That is not all. Many of the top European clubs are eyeing his signature but the Brighton are desperate to hold on to him beyond 2023.

Caicedo has also been an ever-present figure in Ecuador’s impressive World Cup run so far. And his tough tackling presence in the centre of the park has helped the South Americans to four points from their opening two games.

Chelsea eye transfer swoop for 22-goal forward compared to "Chelsea legend" by journalist

Chelsea are interested in signing Brentford star Ivan Toney, who has been compared to Blues legend Didier Drogba.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who believes the England star brings a lot to the table, honouring him with a comparison to Ivory Coast and Chelsea icon Drogba.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “He’s similar in style to Drogba, whether he’s as good a player as Didier Drogba, that’s still open for debate.

“Drogba is a Chelsea legend, played at the highest level throughout his career as well, so Ivan Toney’s still got a lot to do to be named amongst those like Didier Drogba. We know what Ivan Toney brings to the table. He’s a good frontman, can lead the line, can score goals and he’s very powerful in the air.”

The Next Drogba?

With his coolness and ability to lead a side from the frontline, you can understand why O’Rourke has drawn natural comparisons to Drogba.

Toney is enduring a stellar season for Brentford, scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances yet still somehow missing out on inclusion for England’s World Cup squad.

The 26-year-old, who has 22 Premier League goals throughout his career so far, could not have done much more in that regard but did send a message to Gareth Southgate with a beautifully taken brace against Champions Manchester City in what made for the ultimate statement.

You get the impression that £50million Toney’s confidence in front of goal cannot be penetrated, and he could just be the one to break Chelsea’s striker curse.

In the Brentford star, Chelsea could sign a player close to the profile of Drogba in a move that the majority of the SW6 fanbase would adore.

"Gakpo is gone”: expert says United look certain to sign World Cup star

TV presenter Hans Kraay Jr has said that Manchester United is likely to be Cody Gakpo’s next destination in January.

A recent report indicated that both the club hierarchy and Erik ten Hag were in sync with each other and were ready to move in January for the Netherlands international.

An exclusive by Football Insider also detailed that the Red Devils have a principle agreement in place with Gakpo and his representatives ahead of a winter window transfer.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, Ten Hag’s need for a high-quality goalscorer has only become more urgent and the position cannot go unaddressed any longer.

The United boss is said to be a big admirer of the versatile Gakpo and sees him as a good fit for the style of play he wants to implement at Old Trafford.

Any movement for Gakpo is only likely to take place after the World Cup, where the forward is enjoying a superb tournament.

So far, he has scored two goals for the Dutch.

Hans Kraay Jr told ESPN about Gakpo’s situation, “Gakpo is gone. PSV are not going to keep him, and cannot keep him anymore.”

“Gakpo will soon be playing in the Premier League. The chance that it will be Manchester United is now a lot higher again because Cristiano Ronaldo has left.”

“They have even more money available. At Liverpool, assistant Pepijn Lijnders is charmed by him, so he is chasing Jürgen Klopp. Yes, Gakpo is gone.”

Hans Kraay Jr’s confirmation of Lijnder’s admiration for Gakpo aligns with a report that also relayed Liverpool’s interest in the 23-year-old in January.

Hopefully, United can move fast and ward off any prowling eyes for the highly-talented attacker.

"Why didn't we": Neville reveals what will drive Ronaldo in search for new club

August 31, 2021, a date that will live long in the memory of Manchester United supporters around the world. On that fateful day, the club announced they had agreed to bring their prodigal son back home.

It was a fairytale couple of days as pictures and videos of Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the colours of the club that had made him the world’s best adorned every social media post and was the topic of discussion among everyone in the world.

And it culminated in a special game against Newcastle United where the Portuguese lit up Old Trafford once again by scoring twice on his second debut.

Not many would have envisaged that such a romantic story would come to such a bitter end next season. The Portugal international struggled to make an impact under new manager Erik ten Hag and thus decided to give a no-holds barred interview.

CR7 fairytale over

During that highly-publicised interview, the 37-year-old lambasted the club for betraying him and the manager for disrespecting him.

The 20-time English league champions were left with no choice but to mutually agree a termination that has left the former United No 7 without a club.

According to Gary Neville, who was also target of Ronaldo’s ire during the interview, told Sky Sports that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner still has it in him to play for a top European club.

“I think Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be looking for a top club on a four-month or five-month contract where he can go in and do a brilliant cameo role at the very elite of European football,” Neville said.

“I think he’s got four or five great months in him somewhere where he’ll go in and score 15 or 20 goals in that period.”

So far, his agent Jorge Mendes’ best efforts at finding an elite club have not worked out with the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Newcastle United all saying no to the prospect of signing the superstar.

Where next for CR7?

But knowing Ronaldo’s drive for success, he will be desperate to prove all his critics wrong in England and around the world and that the Red Devils were wrong to let him go.

“That’s what I think his priority would be – to stay in the Champions League, to stay at the very top and prove that what happened at Manchester United wasn’t right.

“Everybody in Manchester will say ‘why didn’t we keep him?’ and people in the Premier League will as well.”

Alternatively, clubs in the MLS and Saudi Arabia and Brazil have shown tremendous interest in acquiring the Portugal skipper but the player still wants to prove he can cut it in Europe.

“I think he’ll get to the end of the season and then think about the next two years and what his last football project might look like. Is it in the US or in the Middle East? Is it somewhere else in Europe where he’s not played before?

“I hope he does really well wherever he goes. I didn’t work out in Manchester in the end, but it was the right thing for the club to do in breaking ties and it was the right thing for Cristiano to do.”
