Ten Hag reveals plans for United games during World Cup, fans delighted

Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last eight games and the Red Devils are only three points behind third placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

Erik ten Hag has finally got United playing on the front foot and has transformed the fortunes of many players who were dubbed to be not good enough under previous regimes.

Training plans

The Dutch boss will be aiming to win the remaining four games before the players depart for the World Cup. Fixtures include a Europa League game against Real Sociedad as well as an EFL Cup tie against Aston Villa.

Ten Hag is likely to hand further minutes to fringe players in those two games and more could be in the offing post that as well.

The club announced that the players who would not be travelling with their respective national teams for the World Cup will be going on a week-long training camp in Spain and that includes two friendly fixtures.

One has already been confirmed to be against Cadiz on December 7 with the opposition for the other game yet to be announced.

Quite a few senior players are also set to be a part of the winter camp after they were not called up by their national teams.

Big name players such as David de Gea, Donny van de Beek are likely to be there along with a bunch of academy hopefuls.

The former Ajax boss hinted at preparing the remaining players for the rest of the season was the main aim behind the decision. And that includes maintaining peak fitness levels and being ready when called upon.

Fringe stars will get chance to impress

Two high-quality opponents will be just what the doctor ordered to keep players on their toes and for the boss to take a call on which player might be sent out in January on a temporary or permanent basis.

“We have to train them during those six weeks and we have to give them the right programme so they stay in the right fitness levels, but also they stay in the right shape and also in the team style.

“We made a programme to do that, as optimum as possible. So, we will train here [at Carrington] for one week, or eight or nine days, and then we will have a short break. Then we will train and go to Spain for a training camp for one week.

“There, we can train proper. We have good opponents over there so we can get the game practice in as well. Then we will return, ready for the second stage of the season, I would say, but a long stage, longer than usual,” Ten Hag told the club’s media department.

Video: major Manchester United star returns from injury ahead of schedule

Manchester United have been handed a major boost in the way of a major player returning from injury.

The club officially confirmed, in unexpected and surprising news, that Anthony Martial is back in team training.

Martial’s return comes just days after the manager, Erik ten Hag declared that the Frenchman had suffered a setback and was in a stiff race against time to play for the Red Devils before the World Cup.

However, the striker is now in training, a state of affairs that will please the manager.

Martial was today pictured in training in a jovial mood, joking and toying with his teammates just a day after United got all three points against West Ham.

The 26-year-old could not have timed his return at a better time.

United. however excellent they have been, have clearly been crying out for a competent striker to come in and do the business.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been less than convincing whenever given the opportunity, and as he did against the Hammers yesterday night, looked out of sync with most of his teammates.

Ten Hag himself alluded to this after the game when he said he repeatedly asked the 37-year-old to stay in the box and to stop coming deep to collect the ball.

The Dutch boss said, “I said at half-time, don’t come down too quick, [wait for a] later moment. First, let the midfield and the defence do the work.”

“Then in the latest moment, drop eventually out to attract players or to get yourself the freedom to be creative, to score a goal or to give the final pass.”

This is something Martial excels at with great precision, and that will raise the team’s ceiling significantly in the coming games.

With Real Sociedad and Aston Villa up next, hopefully, Martial gets back into the team and makes his mark.

Former United star suffers new World Cup heartbreak - report

Paul Pogba has suffered a fresh blow to his World Cup chances.

The former Manchester United midfielder is yet to feature for Juventus since his return to Turin in the summer.

Pogba suffered a knee injury in July and that has turned out to be more serious than expected. The Frenchman had to cut short his second training session with Juve and consequently underwent surgery.

Massimiliano Allegri said in early September, “This morning Pogba trained for the second time but then stopped, and it was decided then that he [would] undergo surgery.

“We will realistically get him back in January [after the World Cup].”

The period on the sidelines was expected to be 40-60 days. That prediction turned out be accurate as Pogba returned to undergo light training last week.

The latest reports from Italy however suggest that Pogba has experienced another injury problem.

Fabiana della Valle of La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Pogba has now been diagnosed with a muscular thigh injury.

This has been caused by his extended stint on the sidelines without his consistent athletic schedule. He is expected to be unable to train for at least ten days.

Chances before this update were slim for Pogba to be involved in France’s attempts to retain the World Cup title, but with this further hindrance, any significant role can be ruled out.

Juventus have four fixtures remaining before the World Cup break, with their last match taking place on the 13th November against Lazio.

Without the talismanic Pogba and N’Golo Kanté’s struggles this season, Didier Deschamps will have to rely on Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga to carry his midfield.

Although the Real Madrid duo are incredibly talented with world-class potential, their inexperience at such an intense international stage may prove to be telling.

Furthermore, United defender Raphaël Varane is also a doubt for the World Cup after suffering an injury against Chelsea.

The experienced centre-half posted an update about his rehabilitation, posting a photo of himself training in a gym.

Anthony Martial has also endured an injury-riddled campaign. Nonetheless, Erik ten Hag is hopeful the 26-year-old Frenchman will return to first team action before the World Cup break.

Ten Hag's brilliant Rashford solution comes at a massive cost - analysis

A goal, a landmark and a birthday. It’s been a good week for Marcus Rashford.

Rashford’s powerfully driven header against West Ham represents his seventh goal of the season and fourth in the Premier League.

It’s a good return so far and the academy graduate has certainly turned a corner and grown in confidence after his pretty woeful 2021/22, when he only scored five in the entire season.

And to reach 100 goals before turning 25 – which he managed with a day to spare – is no mean achievement. He currently lies 13th in United’s all time top goalscorers’ list and if he were to stay at the club until, say, age 35 and average just 10 goals a season, he would end his career as United second highest scorer, behind only Wayne Rooney.

And yet there is still a sense of frustration with Rashford that he could be so much more than he is. His career goals per minute average of 209 is meh – not bad at all for a winger but disappointing for a forward, but more importantly, disappointing when you consider just how many chances Rashford seems to need to score.

In the Premier League this season, he has scored a goal every 238 minutes, missed five big chances and has just a 13% conversion rate. His four goals have come from a total of 30 attempts and the casual viewer would be forgiven for thinking that, given the types of chance he has had, it should have been double or even triple that amount (source: sofascore.com).

On the other hand, the fact that he gets into those positions time and again is a massive strength. In theory, he is doing the hard part well, it is the easy part – putting it in the back of the net once he’s created the golden opportunity – with which he struggles. That is the fans’ frustration; with a little bit more composure and better decision-making, he could be a 25 -30 goal a season player, even when playing on the wing.

The big question is whether that can be taught, or learnt, at this stage. With 27-28 usually considered the peak years for a footballer, there is still time for Rashford to grow, but on the other hand, given his early start, many fans have the sense that if he hasn’t got it by now, he never will. Scoring consistency or “clinicalness” has been an issue since his academy days and he has had flashes of overcoming it, only to lose it again.

As a winger, Rashford can be predictable. He will either knock the ball past the defender and try to sprint past him, à la Dan “the whippet” James, or run with the ball at his feet directly at the defender and hope to power past him. There is something lacking.

A supremely talented player, who doesn’t quite have the trickery for a winger nor the clinical finishing of a striker; what to do?

Enter Erik ten Hag, the magician. If anyone can fix Marcus, he can. Ten Hag has certainly pushed Rashford more into an old-fashioned inside left role, when playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at least, and it seems to be working. But it’s an unusual position in modern football, which is far more cautious than the days of 3-2-5, 4-2-4 or an attacking 4-4-2 when you would have two marauding wingers pinging in crosses for your two (or even three) forwards. If Rashford is going to be an inside left, the responsibility to provide width will almost always fall on the full back, which in turn can create a bigger responsibility for the centre backs and defensive midfielders to cover for him should he get stranded up field.

In other words, accommodating Rashford in what is looking to be his natural position comes at a cost and places restrictions on the formations that the manager can employ when the number 10 is in the team.

The inside left role is an intriguing development in Rashford’s career. It could just be a makeshift solution while Anthony Martial is injured and Jadon Sancho is off-form. But it could also be something of a re-invention of the England man, much in the way that Thierry Henry was converted from winger to striker to great effect by Arsène Wenger. Whether it can work on a sustained basis in the coming months will very likely determine whether Rashford’s future lies in Manchester United’s first team or not, especially with the availability on the market of younger players such as PSV’s Cody Gakpo, who offer prolific goal-creation and goalscoring potential.

Gary Neville forced into embarrassing u-turn over United comments

Gary Neville believes Manchester United have a ‘great chance’ of ending the season inside the top four, after their gritty home win against West Ham yesterday.

As reported in The Mail, Neville hailed United’s team spirit developed under Ten Hag and feels it might be enough to secure a Champions League place for next season.

Neville aired his views when discussing the top four race on SKy Sports, after United’s win.

“I think they have a great chance of finishing in the top four now. A great chance.” he said.

He went on to say United should be buoyed by the lack of form and consistency shown by clubs they will need to finish in front of, if they are to secure their ticket back to Europe’s top table.

“I think there is enough around Chelsea, Liverpool, and Spurs that United will feel they can push through that bunch.”

Neville admitted he didn’t expect to see United in this situation after their disastrous start to the campaign and saluted the team spirit Erik ten Hag has created.

“I never would have thought that four or five weeks ago. But they have something to be fair that is happening under Ten Hag that is giving them a great spirit.” he said.

It has certainly been some turn around from United, for whom the top four seemed a million miles away after the opening two games.

But just one Premier League defeat since then and impressive victories against high level opposition along the way, Ten Hag’s methods are beginning to bear fruit.

Yesterday’s victory was secured as much by staunch defending of their box as it was by Marcus Rashford‘s bullet headed winner – which in itself underlines the desire the new manager has instilled.

The attitude and commitment has improved immeasurably over the last two months, with United displaying the grit and determination to turn narrow leads into victories.

United will be looking to end their pre-World Cup schedule with maximum points in their final two league games, away at Aston Villa and Fulham, respectively.

High-flying Rashford reveals the real reason for his poor form last season

Marcus Rashford has revealed the reason for his revitalised performances this season.

Rashford has already equalled his goal contribution tally from last season, registering four goals and two assists in 12 appearances so far across all competitions.

The 24-year-old scored his 100th goal for United last night in what proved to be the crucial decider against West Ham United. He soared above Thilo Kehrer with conviction and determination to meet Christian Eriksen’s deft cross and produce a bullet header past Łukasz Fabiański.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Rashford signalled his mental health as a key factor to his improved form.

“It’s a complete different energy around the club and the training ground. That puts me in a better headspace and I just feel really motivated now.

“I was struggling at times with more mental things. It wasn’t really my own performance but other things off the pitch. That’s the biggest difference from last season.”

Rashford was dropped from the starting lineup following Ralf Rangnick’s arrival. The German preferred youngster Anthony Elanga.

“I get that it’s your job to speak about what happens on the pitch but, for the players, we have to get into the right headspace for every game.

“Too often last season, I wasn’t in the right headspace for games. I wasn’t surprised by some of the stuff that was happening.”

A clear-minded Rashford firing on all cylinders will be a major help for Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman instils a warrior mentality within the squad.

United face Real Sociedad in the last match of the Europa League group stage on Thursday.

Ten Hag’s side has to beat the Basque club by a two goal deficit in order to finish atop the group – Rashford should be expected to be a key challenger in overcoming this task.

Brilliant United return to the top with convincing win over Everton

Manchester United have beaten Everton away to go back top of the WSL.

The first half began and United were all over Everton. The first chance came within the opening five minutes but Parris was caught offside.

Toone had the first real chance but it was just over the bar.

The breakthrough came after just 13 minutes. Galton headed the ball to Parris who slotted it into the bottom left corner.

Everton had the odd attacking charge and George’s shot from a tight angle was well saved by Earps.

Galton was knocking on the door and forced a save from the Everton keeper.

After half an hour Everton launched an attack again and it was Earps to United’s rescue as she saved it from sneaking into the bottom corner.

The Reds were hoping to put some distance in between themselves and the toffees before half time but as Toone played a through ball to Parris, the flag went up for offside.

The second half kicked off and Galton knocked on the door once again with a powerful shot from just outside the box that was slightly off target.

But moments later Galton found the bottom corner with a strike from inside the box. Hayley Ladd claimed the assist.

Parris could have added to United’s tally but she was caught offside again.

However, Hayley Ladd who was having a great game did add to the score line as Garcia played the ball to her and she smashed it into the top left corner.

Russo, returning from injury, came on as a sub and had a chance almost from her first kick but it was high and wide.

Everton weren’t without their chances in the second half but Earps showed why she’s England’s number one.

It was a convincing victory for the Reds who went back top of the league following the final whistle.

Team: Earps, Thorisdottir, Blundell, Turner, Le Tissier, Ladd, Galton, Zelem, Toone, Parris, Garcia

Confirmed Man United XI: Antony is missing, Anthony Elanga replaces him

Antony is missing from the Manchester United lineup to face West Ham this afternoon.

Reports claim that the Brazilian picked up a knock in training.

Harry Maguire has also been recalled to the starting line up, with Victor Lindelof also absent.

Lindelof’s absence even from the bench suggests he also is injured or unwell.

Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot keep their places, while Luke Shaw comes back in to replace Tyrell Malacia.

In midfield, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen retail their places.

There is still no place in the side for Jadon Sancho, with Marcus Rashford and Elanga occupying the wing positions.

Cristiano Ronaldo keeps his place up front and Bruno Fernandes will play in the number 10 position.

Once again, Erik ten Hag has named two goalkeepers on the bench in Tom Heaton and Martin Dubravka.

They are joined by Malacia, Fred, Scott McTominay, Facundo Pellistri, Donny van de Beek, Alejandro Garnacho and Sancho.

United will go into the top four for the first time in Erik ten hag’s reign if they beat the Hammers today.

Kick off at Old Trafford is at 4.15pm.

Supercomputer predicts where United will finish the season, fans will be surprised

Manchester United will finish outside the top four this season, according to the ultimate football predictor machine.

As reported in The Daily Star, FiveThirtyEight are the brains behind the supercomputer, which has predicted where every club will finish this season.

United are predicted to miss out on Champions League football, finishing the season in fifth position.

Current league leaders, Arsenal, are given just a 14% chance of hanging on to top spot, with champions Manchester City expected to retain their crown.

Arsenal are expected to finish runners-up, with Liverpool and Chelsea making up the top four, respectively.

Tottenham are predicted to complete the top six, with Newcastle, who have started the season well, in seventh. Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Wolves are expected to go down.

United have been handed a 3% chance of overhauling Arsenal and City to win the league in Ten Hag’s first season.

Despite being placed in fifth, United have been given a 45% chance of sneaking a top four place, with Chelsea just above them thanks to a predicted 47% shot at securing a Champions League place.

The 2% difference shows just how tight the fight for the top four places will be, with the top seven sides vying to finish the season in the coveted first four positions.

Erik Ten Hag will take solace from bouncing back from the disastrous start to the season, securing wins against Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs, with a creditable point at Stamford Bridge earned last time out.

Additionally, United have played the majority of their opening 12 games against teams in the top half of the table and will be expecting to gather more points against the lower ranked teams.

Ten Hag will be targeting maximum points in United’s remaining three Premier League fixtures before the World Cup break, starting today at home to West Ham. Aston Villa at home and a trip to Fulham make up the final games in the pre-tournament schedule.

Massive World Cup snub for top United star leaves more questions than answers

The World Cup is fast approaching, but one Manchester United player who won’t be travelling to Qatar is goalkeeper David de Gea.

The four-times Sir Matt Busby player of the year winner has not even been named in Luis Enrique’s provisional 55-man squad for the tournament, with three other Premier League goalkeepers chosen ahead of him.

According to AS, “The three goalkeepers who will go to Qatar will be Unai Simón, Robert Sánchez and David Raya.

“But Luis Enrique has also included Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has recovered his best form at Chelsea. David Soria, from Getafe, is the fifth man. But the last two are only options in the case of injury or illness of the first three.”

The fact that De Gea is considered at best sixth most qualified is disappointing for the former Atletico Madrid man after another superb season last time around.

Some argue that this reflects the reality of a player who is not compatible with the modern game, but who because of his immense past achievements for United still commands huge loyalty and belief from a large contingent of the United faithful.

Others argue that De Gea is head and shoulders above many of those picked ahead of him, but is being punished for high-profile errors when wearing his country’s colours in the past.

Meanwhile it has still not been revealed whether United’s on-loan keeper Dean Henderson is part of Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad.

The Mail notes that Henderson “was in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Nations League matches last month, but that was with Jordan Pickford out injured so he is realistically competing with Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope for one of the goalkeeping spots in Qatar.”

Loan manager Steve Cooper insists that Southgate should pick the 25 year old, saying “he’s given himself the best chance, for sure.

“Dean is working incredibly hard, he’s got a real growth mind-set to improve and it’s not just the stuff he does on the pitch.”

United are yet to make a decision on either player’s future, with De Gea free to negotiate with foreign clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement come January, when his contract enters its last six months.

Henderson was seen as his natural successor and briefly won the number one slot but outspoken comments about his treatment by the club will have done little to help his cause.

The Red Devils are being heavily linked with FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, which could mean that neither De Gea nor Henderson will be wearing United’s colours next season.

"Stop talking on television": angry United star tells pundits to leave Antony alone

As Manchester United prepare to face West Ham in the Premier League this afternoon, the battle rages on over a 720 degree turn with the ball performed by Antony against Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday.

The trick, which was followed by a poor pass that went out into touch, was greeted with huge criticism in the BT Sport studio at half time by pundits and former United players Paul Scholes and Robbie Savage.

Scholes labelled Antony a “clown” while Savage said it was “embarrassing”.

The former Leicester man has continued his criticism in The Mirror, saying “I do wonder if Antony would have attempted his party trick if he had been answerable to the likes of Roy Keane or Gary Neville, let alone Sir Alex Ferguson, in the Old Trafford dressing room.

“When have you ever seen Cristiano Ronaldo … do that at 0-0 in a must-win game?

“When have you ever seen Lionel Messi do what Antony did? Show me the evidence, and if I’m wrong I’ll hold my hand up.”

United boss Erik ten Hag and Brazil teammate Neymar have both defended Antony, with the manager saying the trick drew defenders to Antony, so the move was “functional”.

Antony himself said “We [Brazilians] are known for our art and I will not stop doing what has brought me to where I am.”

Teammate for club and country, Fred, also found himself being quizzed about it and was also quick to defend the winger.

“Brazilians have quality in their blood. It’s always been that way since Pelé, to have quality, to dribble, to score, to dance, to smile, “ he told ESPN Brasil via Sport Witness.

“So I think people have to understand this aspect that we have. So it wasn’t offensive to anyone what he did.

“It’s his game. I think he has to keep doing it.

“You want to do a spin that he likes to do, you have to do it. Dance, you can dance.

“And I think people have to stop talking on television there, wanting to pull up a subject.”

“In their countries they don’t have players of the same quality who do that.

“I think it’s very annoying that they want to say that. Them wanting to gloat over Brazil’s players.”

Video: United's 16 year old sensation scores spectacular long range goal

In action at the same time as the u21s on Saturday morning, Manchester United’s u18s were away to Newcastle United in the league, a repeat of their last fixture where they were defeated 1-4 in the Premier League Cup.

This time out Manchester United would take the lead in the 20th minute through Ethan Williams.

The winger’s first attempt at a cross was blocked back out to him and on the second go the keeper could only push the fired effort into his own goal.

The lead didn’t last long though as Newcastle would pull it back just five minutes later. Newcastle’s pacey forward ran down the left wing and faked a cross causing James Nolan to dive in for a block, opening the space for the cut back to Anthony Munda to curl perfectly into the top corner from 14 yards out.

United looked to respond with a flurry of chances but were unable to keep composure as Williams, Sam Murray, Adam Berry, and Ethan Wheatley saw their efforts fly wide of the target.

The best effort in the rest of the first half came from the boot of Sonny Aljofree who volleyed off the corner delivery into the keeper’s arms.

Deadlocked at the half 1-1, United would have been disappointed not to be in the lead.

A strong performance from Maxi Oyedele saw United control the midfield but the second half continued in the same vein as the first with United unable to finish their chances.

It wasn’t until the 83rd minute that a fantastic long range strike from Adam Berry soared into the left corner to restore United’s lead.

Once again though, the lead would be short lived as Newcastle’s Ciaran Thompson scored late on finishing from the low cross delivered into the box.

The final score of 2-2 gave United their first draw of the season and leaves them in 8th place with some games in hand.

United: Wooster, Nolan, Jackson, Aljofree, Murray, Fitzgerald, Oyedele (Baumann 75), Williams (Lacey 75), Berry, Norkett, Wheatley (Musa 67)

Unused subs: Myles, Bailey

Sensational last second goal from young Spaniard clinches point for u21s

Following their midweek draw in the Premier League International Cup, United’s u21s were back in league action away to Tottenham Hotspur at Lamex Stadium.

There was a surprise face in the United side in Zidane Iqbal who has spent the majority of the season with the senior side thus far and it was clear to see what has caught Erik ten Hag’s eye from the opening minute.

Some clever footwork from Iqbal held off the defender in the box before being taken down to win United a penalty in just the second minute. Noam Emeran stepped up and sent it over bar and into the stands, a big chance missed to take an early command.

Spurs had a penalty shout of their own shortly after but there was nothing in it and it was quickly waved off by the ref.

In the 11th minute Bjorn Hardley got himself in trouble as he lost possession and had to pull back the Spurs player to stop the counter, picking up a yellow card in the process.

A few minutes later, Spurs’ Alfie Divine ran free towards the United goal but Radek Vitek stood up to save the shot.

United won possession high up the pitch in the 22nd minute and Shola Shoretire took on his man to the outside and fired low from a tight angle, hitting the back post before it was cleared out for a corner.

Just a minute later, the ball was played wide to Shoretire who audaciously flicked on to Hardley and ran into the box for the pull back but was pushed over as he shot, causing it to be scuffed wide.

In the 26th minute, a bizarre substitution saw Iqbal coming off early for Omari Forson. The young midfielder’s protestations at his departure made it seem unlikely it was due to injury or had been pre-planned to his knowledge.

Forson immediately tried a long range curler upon his entry but there wasn’t enough power to cause the keeper trouble.

In the 32nd minute, Teden Mengi was left exposed 2v1 but he used his pace and strength to hold off Yago Alonso from latching onto the pass into the box but as a result collided with Vitek heavily. Fortunately, both were soon back on their feet and fine to continue.

Shoretire almost snuck a goal as he got a foot in to block the keeper’s clearance but Spurs were lucky and it ricocheted out to a Spurs defender.

In the 40th, Spurs chipped through to Alonso over Bennett’s leg and the Spanish striker dispatched into the bottom right corner.

Unlucky to go into the break trailing 1-0, United were the better side in the first half albeit were disjointed in their play with an unusual 5-3-2 formation that left many unsure of where to be but a switch at half time saw them return to a more familiar four at the back as play resumed.

Early in the second half, a Spurs wide free kick was sent to the back post and side footed back across to be volleyed off the cross bar before Mengi could clear from danger.

Spurs continued to threaten and worked it down the right past Hardley and unleashed a close range shot but Vitek was down quickly to save.

Omari Forson broke from the right and switched to Shoretire who passed to the byline for the overlapping Charlie Savage whose wide angle shot was saved by the keeper’s feet.

In the 69th minute, Shoretire’s wide free kick found Bennett at the back post rising to head, but a deflection took the sting out of it, allowing for an easy catch from the keeper.

Savage crossed to Marc Jurado at back post to run past the defender to the byline with a great first touch before cutting back to Emeran for a huge chance 10 yards out but he sidefooted wide left.

It would finally all fall into place for United deep into injury time. Jurado’s cross was blocked but it came back to him on his left and he outrageously curled it into the far top left corner with the keeper nowhere close to reaching it, saving a point from the match after Spurs had tried to waste time from the 60th minute.

The final whistle came seconds later, to give United their seventh draw in eleven matches so far this campaign as they languish in 11th place.

United midfielder struggling for minutes set for January La Liga exit

Manchester United Donny van de Beek is reportedly on Valencia’s radar.

According to todofichajes, the La Liga club are eyeing a January move for the 25 year old.

A loan deal is likely, with the only stumbling block being his £100,000 weekly wages.

Valencia want United to cover the majority of the amount.

Other clubs like AC Milan, Leicester City and Ajax are also said to be interested.

United will need to make a decision regarding a loan deal or a sale.

Van de Beek has struggled for minutes this season.

Being sidelined through muscle injury, he has missed most of the games.

United fans were pleased to see him back in action against Sheriff Tiraspol.

The Dutchman looked calm and composed on the ball and occupied some dangerous positions.

In a few minutes, he showed his technical quality and what he could bring to this United team.

In his press conference, Ten Hag spoke about how he is confident that the Dutchman will get a chance to impress.

“Yeah, he was long out, so I was happy to give him some minutes because you need to get in the right form. But he’ll have to work himself back.”

“When you analyse the season so far, then if he was available, then he should get his chance. Because we need goals, and I know Donny is really good in the position to score goals.”

Picture: United star gets special praise from footballing icon

Manchester United winger Antony has received plenty of criticism for skill versus Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night.

The 22 year old did his famous ball roll before passing it out for a goal kick.

United legend Paul Scholes blasted Antony on BT Sport: “If I was at No.6, I know what I’d be doing.”

“It’s just ridiculous; it’s showboating.”

“He’s not beating a man, he’s not entertaining anybody, but that’s just the way he is.”

“I saw him do it at Ajax as well, and it’s the way he is, but he needs that knocking out of him.”

Antony responded to the criticism by posting on Instagram.

He uploaded a story which translates to: “We are known for our art and I won’t stop doing what got me where I am!”

His Brazilian compatriot Neymar reposted this story on his page, further adding :

“Keep it up, nothing changes! Boldness and Joy.”

Antony is a special player who is still raw and developing.

Erik ten Hag will know very well how to mould him into the player we all know he can become.

While some might criticise the needless skill, others might find it entertaining and part of why they love football.

United have ‘reserved’ incredibly talented 23-yo De Gea replacement - report

Manchester United are eyeing the signature of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

As reported in Sport Witness, United have a ‘reserve’ on Costa and are ready to pounce for the keeper at the end of the season.

The Portuguese stopper has a €60 million release clause, and it is believed Porto will not entertain anything less.

Costa’s agent is Jorge Mendes, with whom United have built a decent relationship over the years. United have asked Mendes to let them know if any offers from other clubs arrive.

Costa’s performances this season have elevated him to one of the most sought-after keepers in Europe.

His impressive displays in the Champions League and domestic level showcased his ability and temperament for the big stage.

Old Trafford certainly is that big stage, and the number one spot at United has always been one of the most scrutinised positions in world football.

United have been blessed over the last decade with David de Gea safely holding the fort between the sticks, proving himself as one of the best ‘keepers the club has ever had.

However, with a new brand of keeping required at the top level, question marks have arisen over the Spaniard’s ability to adapt to the modern ball-playing style of goalkeeping.

This, coupled with De Gea’s contract expiring at the end of the current season, makes it seems the natural time to call time what has been a hugely successful relationship between club and player.

De Gea has taken home the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times during his time at United, including three consecutively between 2014 and 2016, when he was widely regarded as the world’s best.

Costa certainly has the potential to fill the huge gloves he will walk into should he move to Manchester but will have to adapt quickly to the spotlight that comes with wearing United’s no.1 shirt.

Summer move "likely" as United absolutely determined to land “the next Haaland"

Manchester United have recovered from their early season blip and as of now are showing signs of fulfilling their pre-season ambitions.

It was imperative that the Red Devils finished in the top four so as to play in the Champions League next season. United are currently sixth but only three points behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

In the Europa League, Erik ten Hag’s side are through to the next round but will be eyeing top spot ahead of the last match of the group against current leaders Real Sociedad.

United’s forwards struggling

The players finally seem to be adapting to the Dutchman’s style of play and ever since the Manchester derby mauling, the Reds have pretty much dominated in all games.

They have taken the most shots while hogging the majority of the possession in all games but the only sore point is the lack of ruthlessness in front of goal.

In the last five games, the 20-time English champions have had a total of 113 shots but only managed seven goals. United’s forwards have failed to shine as expected so far this season.

Marcus Rashford remains the team’s top scorer this season with six goals but sometimes he is prone to lacking guile when clean through, opting to use power instead of precision.

Anthony Martial has done well when played but remains perennially injured. Jadon Sancho started the season in fine form but is once again struggling to find any sort of consistency.

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s powers seem to be on the wane and off-field incidents are certainly not helping him nor the club. And with rumours linking the Portuguese with a move away in January, the Reds certainly need a replacement soon.

In the summer, United were linked with a host of forward players including teenage sensation Benjamin Sesko. In the end however, the Slovenian ended up reaching a pre-agreement with German side RB Leipzig to join them next summer.

Sesko the answer?

Journalist Phil Brown has added that due to the interest being shown in the 19-year-old by multiple European heavyweights, he might be on the move before even kicking a ball for his new club.

“Manchester United are still very interested in signing RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Šeško. A January move is unlikely, but not impossible – the summer is much more likely. Šeško might not kick a ball for RB Leipzig due to the amount of interest in him.”

Recently, Sesko’s agent was spotted with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly reigniting talks of a Chelsea move. It remains to be seen where the current RB Salzburg star ends up going.

For United’s sake, they will be hoping to be there when the player does decide where to move and for that Ten hag needs to ensure Champions League qualification at the least.

"Now that Potter has come in..." - Journalist shares reassuring claim over "settled" Chelsea gem

Chelsea striker Armando Broja is “settled” at Stamford Bridge, despite the ongoing rumours of the club’s intent to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

That is according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, who insists that the Albanian still has a future at Stamford Bridge, even if the club were to act on their mooted intent to bring in a new target man.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs said: “If they do bring in a striker, whether it’s Osimhen or another player in that kind of mould, I don’t think it will have too much impact on Broja because he’s signed a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge and is pretty settled now.

“That calmness in his head actually started under Thomas Tuchel, and now that Potter has come in, he’s been even further reassured that he’s a long-term part of the plans. Broja’s perspective has changed from pre-season.”

Broja clearly unfazed

At the beginning of September, the 21-year-old put pen to paper on a six-year contract with the Blues, around the same time that Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang made the journey from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge.

This came after a summer in which the Albanian was the subject of consistent transfer speculation surrounding the likes of Everton, West Ham and Newcastle.

However, the £50m-valued Broja was not fazed at the prospect of competing with the 33-year-old, saying in an interview with football.london: “I have always been a confident boy and it is important to keep that and remain confident.

“I feel like I can help the team a lot. I will do my best on and off the pitch in any way I can. I believe I can.”

Such an attitude is both professional and admirable, and you would not expect that to change, even with the potential arrival of a star like Osimhen, who has consistently hit double figures per season in major European leagues while also making his mark at Champions League level.

The “calmness in his head” that Jacobs highlighted comes across in the above comments from the 21-year-old, who has already played three more games under Potter than he managed during Tuchel’s Chelsea reign.

Darren Fletcher watches United's young stars as they fight for breakthrough

Manchester United’s u21s kicked off the Premier League International Cup with an opening fixture hosting Sparta Prague this week.

The cup is a competition which sees 12 English sides taking on 12 of the of the top development squads from Europe.

Noam Emeran made his first start of the season upon his return from injury and he made an instant impact, winning a penalty in the 10th minute after being pulled down.

Charlie McNeill stepped up to take it, having dispatched three penalties already this season, but this time the striker was denied by Filip Nalezinek.

Dan Gore and Isak Hansen-Aaroen were playing with freedom in the midfield as the experienced Tom Huddlestone anchored behind them.

Omari Forson and Emeran caused a lot of trouble with their movement on the wings and Emeran almost had a huge chance near the end of the half but couldn’t reach Sam Murray’s delightful cross.

The closest chance of the half though would come just before the whistle, with Huddlestone looking to turn back time with a hammer of a long range effort that sailed just wide.

After the break, Sparta came out strong with two big chances but they couldn’t beat United’s Ondrej Mastny.

With United pushing for the win, they thought they had found it with the in-form Shola Shoretire finding space from close range but the sprawling keeper would deny him his sixth goal of the month.

Substitute Kobbie Mainoo created a chance for himself before firing his shot just over the bar.

Ultimately United couldn’t break down the physical Sparta side and the match ended 0-0 with Darren Fletcher and Andy O’Boyle in attendance.

United: Mastny, Murray, Fredricson, Mengi (Jurado 46), Hardley, Gore, Huddlestone (Savage 81), Forson, Hanson-Aaroen, Emeran (Shoretire 46), McNeill (Mainoo 65)

Unused subs: Wooster, Bennett, Norkett

Confirmed United XI: Garnacho starts, Cristiano Ronaldo recalled to the starting line-up

Erik ten Hag has recalled Cristiano Ronaldo to the Manchester United starting line-up to face Sheriff Tiraspol tonight.

The manager has named three changes from the team that drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Sunday.

The defence remains the same other than Tyrell Malacia, who replaces Luke Shaw at left back.

David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez complete the back unit.

Casemiro and Cristian Eriksen also retain their places in midfield.

Ahead of them, Antony and Bruno Fernandes keep their places but Jadon Sancho loses out to the exciting young Argentinian.

Up front, Marcus Rashford makes way for Ronaldo, who missed the Chelsea game due to disciplinary measures.

Ten Hag has once again named two keepers on the bench in Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton.

Harry Maguire and Donny van de Beek are back from injury and on the bench also.

They are joined by Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Zidane Iqbal, Fred, Anthony Elanga, Facundo Pellistri and Sancho.

The complete omission of Rashford could indicate illness or injury.

The crucial tie kicks off at Old Trafford at 8pm.

Debut could beckon tonight as Ten Hag promises young star opportunities

Erik ten Hag will be hoping to rotate his Manchester United squad for Thursday’s Europa League game against Sheriff Tiraspol but still ensure full points.

United need to win Thursday’s contest at Old Trafford if they are to keep alive their chances of finishing top of Group E.

This year’s format has been tweaked and only the top teams of each group directly qualify for the Round of 16. The second-placed teams will have to play an additional two-legged tie to make it through.

Europa prospects for United

And that additional tie will be against the teams dropping from the Champions League, something the Red Devils should try and avoid considering the already jam-packed schedule.

The home game represents the best chance for Ten Hag to give a few players some much needed rest ahead of crucial leagues tests to come prior to the World Cup.

One such player who will be hoping to be involved is Facundo Pellistri. The 20-year-old is yet to make his United debut despite signing for the club back in 2020.

He had two underwhelming loan spells at Alaves and was subject of quite a lot of loan interest in the summer as well. He enjoyed a decent pre-season for the Red Devils, going on to score against Liverpool in the opener.

But an unfortunate injury suffered during the penultimate pre-season engagement against Atletico Madrid meant his chances of a temporary switch evaporated and he had to stay back at Carrington to recuperate from the injury.

Now, the former Penarol youngster is back in training and has even made the matchday squad for our last seven games. And the remaining Europa games and the lone EFL Cup tie prior to the Qatar showpiece represents his best chance at making his debut.

Pellistri to make debut?

Ten Hag hinted at giving the Uruguay international his shot at making it at the 20-time English champions. Not only Pellistri but attacking academy graduates like Alejandro Garnacho and Zidane Iqbal are also chomping at the bit in order to impress the Dutchman.

“He was injured, [for a] long period,” Ten Hag told reporters ahead of the visit of Sheriff Tiraspol. “[Against] Atletico Madrid, [he got a] bad injury. So he is now returning.

“We have some young players in the background in offensive positions.

“Quite good competition there and they have to battle for it to convince us, to convince me to be in the team, and he is one of the options.”

United will be hoping to garner full points as well as reduce the goal difference between them and group leaders Sociedad. The youngsters will be aiming to light it up under the lights at Old Trafford.

The post Erik ten Hag hints at Manchester United chance for Facundo Pellistri appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

Ten Hag has found missing link in United’s armour worth 30 points a season

Erik ten Hag started off his career as Manchester United boss in the worst way possible in both competitions the team has played in so far this season.

The Premier League was a disaster as United lost their opening two games to Brighton and Brentford while in the Europa League, the Reds suffered a narrow loss in their opener against Real Sociedad.

The players have since shown grit and determination and the Dutch boss has managed to steady the ship.

The famous United spirit on display

United are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak and are placed sixth in the league table, just three points behind third placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

In the Europa League, the 20-time English champions have won all their three remaining games and are currently second, just a point away from qualification to the next round.

And this current streak has been defined by the Red Devils’ rediscovery of their famous never-say-die attitude with United rescuing points from the jaws of defeat in four of the last six games.

In Europe, United have twice snatched late wins, both times against Omonia Nicosia, while in the Premier League, Chelsea and Everton have had to face the music.

And Ten Hag feels this is the kind of spirit that can propel the team to win trophies in the future.

“I think we keep going and it’s a quality that a team who wants to win trophies needs. So we are developing that. I think we are on a good way so we’ll keep that process going but we have to get even more from it,” Ten Hag told the club’s media team.

A big part of this rediscovery comes from United’s superior fitness levels. The manager has rotated sparingly but the players have always seemed up for it when thrown into the deep end.

ETH hoping for it to continue

Anthony Martial, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay have all come in as substitutes to change the game.

And the former Ajax coach also pointed out that his team are finally starting to believe in themselves and that has led to United pushing on till the final whistle.

“It’s one of the good things, so [let’s] keep that culture. As a good base, you also need good physical [fitness] to do that in the last stage of the game and the last point is belief. Believe that it’s not ended until the final whistle of the ref and so keep going, keep believing in winning and getting the best result out of it.

“That fighting spirit, keep going. You have to believe on the pitch that we go for a better result. I think it’s good. I think it shows that we can come back and we can decide games in the last minutes, which shows that the fitness levels are good. But that is an investment and you have to keep that going.”

This spirit can go a long way in determining how United end their season in all competitions with the players showing they can add quite few points and wins from losing positions along the way.

United back in trouble with FA for this ridiculous reason

Lightning has struck twice as Manchester United have been charged by the FA again for failing to control their players. The most recent charge relates to Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate at Stamford Bridge.

Casemiro sent a message to doubters of his pedigree with a 94th-minute equaliser. However, earlier in the game, Chelsea were awarded a penalty for Scott McTominay‘s foul on Armando Broja. McTominay wrestled Broja to the ground in full view of the officials, including VAR.

Jorginho converted, but not before United’s players erupted into protest.

The aggressive surrounding of referee Stuart Atwell culminated in the Red Devils’ second FA charge in under a week (via The Daily Mail).

The FA released this statement on Wednesday: ‘Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October 2022 in the Premier League.

‘Manchester United allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022, to respond.’

The first offence

Eight days before the latest charge, the FA reprimanded Erik ten Hag’s team for the same behaviour in their 0-0 draw against the Magpies.

The FA charged Manchester United with a failure to control their players in the 49th minute. Ten Hag’s men surrounded referee Craig Pawson, challenging the decision to disallow Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal.

Erik ten Hag stands by his team

The Red Devils boss defended his team’s response in the Newcastle game, saying, “I don’t think it was too strong. It wasn’t really aggressive, but I don’t know what was happening exactly on the pitch; I was too far away. I saw it back on the video.”

He then went on to express empathy for his players:’Quite normal that you ask why in the moment. It was a curious incident. My view is that quickly you have to accept the ref’s decision; there is VAR; you accept and move on.’

The governing body has given United until Friday to issue a response concerning the Chelsea charge.

The club (and Erik ten Hag) will want to avoid another incident. United’s season has been shrouded in its fair share of drama already.
