'Focus on titles' Ten Hag's first interview will have United fans over the moon

Erik ten Hag has given his first interview as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman will take over as permanent manager after the end of the interim spell under Ralf Rangnick.

In the interview with MUTV, Ten Hag said that he is excited to join United, and is looking forward to bringing the club back where it belongs.

“I would say the word ‘exciting’. I really look forward to doing this job, at this club with massive history, and we want to restore it where it belongs.”

“First of all, we want to make the fans proud. Second, of course we are in this moment, the current situation is obviously not that good.”

‘It’s a big challenge. I want to build and construct a team who are battling for each other, who are unified and who will get results.”

“Also we are playing in the Theatre of Dreams.”

“We want to entertain. But in the end, the intention is to play fantastic football. If we can’t play fantastic football, we still have to win.”

Man Utd fans will be very excited by Ten Hag’s comments regarding style of play.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson‘s retirement, many have complained about United adopting a negative approach to most matches.

The 52 year old is known for his exciting brand of football which could be seen at Ajax.

He went on to say:

“I’m coming over to meet people and to roll out the strategy, to prepare pre-season, prepare staff and prepare a squad.”

“It’s first: accept the current situation but also know one year ago, this club, this team was second in the Premier League.”

“There’s potential and now it’s up to us to get that out. It’s a process, it will take time but I’m convinced we will come to that point where we get success.”

‘We have to work hard and it has to be based on the right philosophy and strategy.”

“I live by the day. I give my best and I make my decisions based on clearness and logic. We need a good concept and we need the right people around.”

“We give everything we have, every day, then we will get success. Then you see where you end up. Live by the day and focus on titles and don’t dream about other things that can happen in the future.”

'You dont have to stay': Man Utd star blasts teammates after embarrassing result

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea gave a harsh assessment of his team and season after another disappointing loss against Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils could not compete with the resilient Palace side who came away 1-0 winners.

Wilfred Zaha’s 37th-minute strike was enough for the hosts to come away with all the three points.

West Ham’s loss to Brighton means that United will play in the Europa League next season.

After the match De Gea spoke to the media and gave his thoughts on the season:

“The best thing that happened today is the season has finished.”

“I cannot wait. I am excited for the next season, new manager, and new players.”

“Hopefully, we will improve and put Manchester United in a better position. We need to trust in the future.”

“The new manager and staff are already looking for new players. Hopefully, they bring good ones with good character.”

“Ones who want to stay, stay at the club. Ones that don’t want to stay go out. You don’t have to stay here.”

“I want to forget this season and be 100% ready for the next season and be positive.”

“It has been horrible, a very bad season in all ways, it has been very tough. It is time to rest and prepare your minds for next season.”

Last push: European giants could hijack transfer deal for Pogba - report

Paris Saint-Germain are looking to make a final push to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United.

The Frenchman is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, which a proposed move to Juventus on the cars as per Alfredo Pedulla.

https://twitter.com/AlfredoPedulla/status/1527401691024334848?s=20&t=nxuX7FQ_G8XxwgOIEOmdWA

Now James Ducker (The Telegraph) reports that PSG has entered the race to sign Pogba, with the Frenchman leaving for free at the expiration of his Man Utd contract this summer.

Juventus have offered Pogba a three-year deal worth around £10 million a season.

After successfully keeping Kylian Mbappe for another three years, the Ligue One giants are preparing to bolster their midfield by adding Pogba to their ranks.

Real Madrid is another club to watch out for as they could swoop in for the 29 year old.

After missing out on Mbappe, Los Blancos will be desperate for a marquee signing and Pogba could be just the one.

From a Man Utd point of view, it is the perfect time to part ways with the player.

Offering needless money should not be on the cards, especially when he is reluctant to stay.

The club are looking at possible replacements.

United, over the past week, have been linked with FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

This story mentions Barcelona’s financial crisis and how they could be willing to sell an asset to recoup money for the squad building.

FC Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong represents a different option to United’s existing ones.

He is different to Pogba but could change the way United play football.

Man Utd the team to make the highest bid for midfield maestro - report

Manchester United are not giving up on their pursuit of Frenkie De Jong.

According to Spanish outlet Sport,  the Red Devils are the club that is willing to make the strongest bid for the Dutchman.

Barcelona are reluctant to sell but will accept an offer of €80 million.

Erik ten Hag is said to be keen on reuniting with De Jong.

The two shared a great relationship at Ajax, and Ten Hag could make the Dutchman the crux of United’s midfield.

From a footballing point of view, this deal makes a lot of sense for Man Utd.

They lack a controller in midfield, someone who is comfortable in possession and can recycle the ball from deep.

De Jong is one of the most technically gifted footballers on the planner right now.

His quick feet, and ability to get out of tight spaces along with excellent passing make him the ideal fit for United.

He would easily slot into Ten Hag’s style of play, having played it before.

It could be difficult to convince him to join United, especially when the club have failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Ten Hag could try and convince De Jong to be a part of his project but it wouldn’t be fair to expect him not to look at more lucrative options like Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich.

Former United star reveals key reason why Ten Hag can lead club to greatness

Former Manchester United star Daley Blind has given his thoughts on the club appointing Erik ten Hag as manager.

He played a big part in Man Utd’s Europa League win under Jose Mourinho, often slotting at centre back due to the absence of Eric Bailly.

Blind is currently a part of Ten Hag’s title-winning Ajax side, playing either at left back or at the base of midfield.

In an interview with The Metro, he gave his opinion on his manager leaving to join Man Utd.

He stated:  “Erik ten Hag is a great guy. It’s not an easy job, of course, but he doesn’t run away from it either.”

“He takes up the challenge.”

“I am quite confident in him at Manchester United but he needs the board behind him.”

“At Ajax, he had [Edwin] Van der Sar and [Marc] Overmars behind him whatever happened, also in bad times.”

“I hope he gets the time there, he is one of the best managers around.”

“Ten Hag leaves nothing to chance. Sometimes we faced an opponent that we would automatically underestimate and we thought, ‘we don’t need a 45-minute meeting for this.”

“But he approaches every single game the same, tactical training sessions.. everything is detailed.”

Ten Hag is expected to attend United’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace before taking office as permanent manager.

Ten Hag could have this massive advantage before start Man Utd job

Manchester United are reportedly willing to grant new manager Erik ten Hag €140 million to spend in his first transfer window.

According to Mike Verweij, the club are willing to fully back the new manager and give him €140m or more to get his required targets.

Ten Hag reportedly flew into London along with his assistant Mitchell Van der Gaag on Wednesday.

The club are looking to finalise the deal to appoint Ten Hag’s coaching staff including Van der Gaag and Steve McLaren.

The Dutchman is expected to attend Man Utd’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace away at Selhurst Park.

If West Ham United win their game against Brighton, United will require a win to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

The club could be at risk of dropping into the Conference League which could lead to a further financial blow.

From a transfer front, United are looking at strengthening the midfield, with strong links to Frenkie De Jong as a possible target.

Samuel Luckhurst( Manchester Evening News) stated that the club were looking at a long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic in defensive midfield.

As per The Telegraph, Ten Hag is said to be keen to bring Ajax’s Jurien Timber and Lisandro Martinez along with him to Old Trafford to bolster the defence.

Brazilian winger Anthony has also been mentioned as a possible target in what seems like a raid on Ajax players.

Ten Hag shuts down rumours of Man Utd star leaving, labels him 'giant'

Erik ten Hag has shared his thoughts on managing Manchester United a few days after wrapping up the Eredivisie title with Ajax.

The Dutchman remained close-lipped for the past few weeks despite the confirmation of the move to United.

He wanted to focus his energy on successfully retaining the title with Ajax.

His team won the title in style, thrashing Heerenveen 5-0 at home.

After his last game in charge against Vitesse, Ten Hag was asked whether he would be taking  a break before going to England to which he replied: “It’s time to turn the switch now.”

“It’s something that is needed because there is a lot to take care of and I have the energy for it.”

Ten Hag reportedly terminated his contract six weeks in advance to start work early in Manchester.

In a recent interview, Ten Hag spoke about his ambitions and his expectations for the Premier League.

He stated that he is disappointed about the club not making the Champions League and will miss the competition a lot.

“Painful for United, but also me. It’s a competition I’m going to miss incredibly. But the fact that I’m going to work in the Premier League makes up for a lot.”

“United has an enormous reach, worldwide.”

“I think I will encounter the same force fields at United as at Ajax, only a factor of three or four larger.”

He mentioned how pleased he is to work with Cristiano Ronaldo: “He is a giant that is still very ambitious.”

“Of course I want to keep him at Man Utd. He was important for them again this year, his stats are great.”

Which United youngsters showed they are ready in cup victory?

Manchester United’s u18s brought home silverware to Old Trafford to bring the supporters some joy at the end of the season as they defeated Nottingham Forest in the FA Youth Cup final.

Here are our player ratings for the match:

(A score of 6 is around average)

Radek Vitek – 5 – Made a terrible mistake for Forest’s goal and was shaky with his distributions.

Marc Jurado – 8 – Made several strong tackles and very important blocks at the back. Was also often the only defender capable of playing out from the back but didn’t venture too far forward often.

Rhys Bennett – 8.5 – A proper old school centre half performance with no frills on the ball but dominant in the air and some important last-ditch blocks. Capped off with a goal and almost a second.

Louis Jackson – 7 – Did well stepping up from the u16s on such a big occasion and got to grips with the physicality as the match went on.

Sam Murray – 6.5 – Provided the assist for the match’s opener and was decent overall but had a tough time with Josh Powell causing havoc down his wing.

Dan Gore – 7 – Quite a first half trying to deal with Forest’s packed midfield but picked up in the second half with some good passing.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7 – Not his best performance and couldn’t stamp his control in the first half but still provided his driving runs in the midfield.

Sam Mather – 6.5 – Had decent moments but drifted through the match too much.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen – 6.5 – Some moments of absolute quality on the ball and won the free kick for the first goal. But struggled with the physicality at times and couldn’t apply himself consistently over the match.

Alejandro Garnacho – 8 – Electric pace on show to pounce on loose balls to win the penalty and when scoring the third. But needs better decision making and less selfishness to round out his performance.

Charlie McNeill – 6 – Struggled to get involved and impose himself with Forest’s physical centre backs.

Substitutes

Maxi Oyedele – 7.5 – Came in and added some needed physicality in the midfield allowing the team to gain more control of the match.

Joe Hugill – 7 – Didn’t get on the ball much but was so important with his pressing that led to the turnover for the second goal and unsettled Forest’s solid backline.

Aljofree – 6 – Came on in the dying minutes and helped shore up the back.

Tier one journalist confirms Man Utd interest in De Jong

Manchester United are reportedly working on a deal to sign FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

As per Laurie Whitwell (The Athletic), the club are keen on bringing the Dutchman to Old Trafford.

De Jong has previously worked with Ten Hag, and was an integral part of his famous 2018-19 Ajax team.

United are said to be looking to sign players in conjunction with Ten Hag’s philosophy and style of play.

We previously reported the breaking news a couple of days ago, when Gerard Romero stated that United were close to completing this transfer.

Since then, there have been conflicting reports on whether Xavi would be willing to let his star man leave.

The Barcelona manager stated:  “I have said many times that Frenkie is very important. He’s key player.”

“Then there is also the financial situation of the club and it has to be decided.”

“I’m not talking about Frenkie, in general.”

Barcelona are said to be interested in signing Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

According to Miquel Blazquez, the Catalan club are looking to free up funds by selling one of their prime assets – De Jong.

Xavi is blessed with a core of young midfielders like Pedri and Gavi to build his squad around.

United need to take advantage of this situation and get De Jong signed up as soon as possible.

United youngsters fight to secure club silverware for the season

With over 67,000 in the crowd at Old Trafford, the FA Youth Cup final against Nottingham Forest marked the biggest stage of Manchester United’s u18s careers so far.

Kobbie Mainoo kicked off the action with some clever footwork to get into the box and shoot into the keeper’s arms in the opening minute.

Up the other end, Forest came agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 3rd minute when their skipper rose on the corner to head just inches wide.

In the 12th minute, Isak Hansen-Aaroen won a free kick after a mazy technical run, beating several defenders before being taken down.

Sam Murray clipped the free kick into the area for United’s skipper, Rhys Bennett, to flick on and the Forest keeper couldn’t deal with the bounce on the ball as he palmed it into the goal to give United an early lead.

Later in the half, some good team play ended with Marc Jurado finding Hansen-Aaroen on the edge of the box to take the ball on the turn and open space for the shot but a good block from the defender took the power out of the Norwegian’s effort allowing for an easy save in the end.

Mainoo drove his way into the box and fumbled the ball to Alejandro Garnacho who dragged his shot all the way out for a throw-in.

Late in the half and Forest pulled back a deserved equaliser from a disaster mistake by Radek Vitek.

Josh Powell cut in from the right and struck on his dominant left foot into the bottom right corner which should have been saved by Vitek but it fumbled straight through his hands and into the goal as the United defenders rushed to console the disappointed keeper.

Charlie McNeill raced down the left beating a tight offside line but his whipped cross flashed across the goal unable to find a teammate and went out the opposite side of the pitch to mark the end of the first half.

Forest started the second half quickly with a big chance as they cut back from the byline for a strike from 8 yards out but Jurado and Bennett were on hand to combine to block the shot.

Minutes after Hansen-Aaroen was showing his quality with another Ronaldinho-Esque elastico to get into the box and cut back for McNeill but it was just out of his reach and then Mainoo tried to pounce on the open ball but swung and only got air.

In the 50th minute, a pile driver from Jurado at the right corner of the box could only be parried out for a corner by the keeper. The resulting corner was cleared to the waiting Garnacho at the edge of the box to shoot off the defender and over the bar.

Struggling with the physicality of the Forest side, Travis Binnion introduced Maxi Oyedele and Joe Hugill in the 64th minute to get a better grip on the cagey affair.

Bennett almost added a second as he powered a header down towards the right corner but a timely block from the Forest defender denied the United captain from restoring the lead.

Minutes later, Forest slipped up trying to play out from the back under Hugill’s press allowing Garnacho to race in and steal the ball away only to be taken down just outside the box.

But luck was in United’s favour as the referee got it completely wrong and awarded a penalty. Garnacho stepped up and calmly dispatched just right of the centre of the goal.

With eight minutes of added time, Garnacho ran at the heart of the Forest backline and had Oyedele open on his left but went for the strike himself from 18 yards and soared it over the bar.

A minute later and a mistake from the Forest defender allowed Garnacho to snatch the ball again and run into the box and with a cut onto his right and back to his left the Argentinean struck off the defender and the deflection cannoned into the net to seal the victory.

The win saw United lift the coveted FA Youth Cup trophy for the first time since 2011 in front of a record crowd.

United: Vitek, Jurado, Bennett, Jackson, Murray, Mainoo, Gore, Mather (Aljofree 86), Hansen-Aaroen (Oyedele 64), Garnacho, McNeill (Hugill 64)

Tier one journalist confirms United closing in on world class signing

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the transfer of Frenkie De Jong from FC Barcelona.

According to Tier one Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, United will complete the deal this month for around €80 million.

Barcelona are in an economic crisis and are said to be forced to sell De Jong in the fear that they might not be able to recoup his transfer value next season.

The deal could be completed as early as this week, reports Miquel Blazquez.

If Man Utd do manage to pull this deal off, it could be one of the signings of the summer.

De Jong is one of the most technically proficient midfielders in the world and exactly what United in the centre of the park.

His ability to dictate tempo and control the game would vastly improve the overall gameplay.

The Dutchman can play as a lone six or further forward as a number eight.

Moreover, De Jong was an instrumental part of Erik ten Hag’s Ajax side that reached the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

The duo could recreate his manage at Old Trafford.

If the reported fee is true, it would take up a sizeable portion of the transfer budget.

United would have to compensate by buying cheaper options in other areas.

21 year old United star left in the dark as contract nears end

Impressing on loan in Scotland, Dylan Levitt has recently set his targets for next season including impressing his new boss, Erik Ten Hag.

Currently, on loan at Dundee United, Levitt has notched four goals from midfield so far as he plays a key role in securing a Europa Conference League spot for The Tangerines.

After his impressive loan spell, the Welsh international has set his sights on returning to United and earning a spot in Wales’ World Cup squad.

Speaking with The Courier last week, Levitt said “with the new manager [ten Hag] going in at United, hopefully, I’ll get a chance.”

Slightly concerning though was the uncertainty around his contract situation as he quipped “my contract is up in the summer and it hasn’t been spoken about. Hopefully, I will hear something in the next few weeks.”

He remains optimistic though saying “I’d love to be able to go back and make an impact. It’academy arenas everyone’s dream to do that.”

With his contract set to expire, the club does have an optional year extension than can be triggered but as of yet has not been.

The youngster’s attitude will be sure to impress Ten Hag as he wants “to get better every single day. That goes on forever.”

During his time in Scotland so far, Levitt has become a favourite among the fans and his teammates with defender Adrian Sporle saying “he was a great signing for the club. He is different, you realise he comes from Man Utd. He has great technique and quality. He is one of my favourites.”

The young midfielder scored a wonder goal last week as Dundee United fell to Hearts.

It is unclear as of yet what next season will look like for Levitt, but as it stands United have a talented young midfielder who deserves a contract extension and a chance to impress the new manager in the summer.

He scores again - United starlet shows he is too good for youth level

Manchester United’s u18s were in action on Saturday hosting Derby County at Carrington in their last match before the all-important FA Youth Cup final on the 11th of May.

United started the match on top with Joe Hugill running the channels in the opening minutes and creating a chance for Ethan Ennis to cut in from the left but the winger’s strike sailed over the bar.

Ennis and Hugill were linking up again shortly later as Ennis played Hugill down the left for the striker to cross into the box. A well-timed interception from the defender cut out Hugill’s ball but sent it right back to him to unleash a rifled volley at goal only kept out by a phenomenal save.

Seconds later and another big chance came United’s way as Omari Forson crossed into the box for Ennis to flick towards goal from close range but couldn’t manage to slip it by the keeper.

In the 21st minute United’s throw-in from the left picked out Forson who turned at the edge of the box and looked to curl into the far corner but the keeper would parry straight into the path of Manni Norkett to tap into the open net and give United the lead.

Minutes later Forson danced inside with a step over before playing the reverse pass to Hugill on the right who shot near the side forcing the keeper to tip round for a corner.

In the 32nd Hugill split the defenders to play through Norkett on the right but his lifted effort went over the bar as he looked to catch the keeper out.

Moments later Kobbie Mainoo did well to keep the ball inbounds in the left corner before bursting by two defenders and laying it off to Ennis who side-footed wide of the left post.

The first half came to a close with the score remarkably still only 1-0 despite the fact United could have easily had many more.

The second half saw Ennis continue to be lively down the left-wing as his cross into the centre missed everyone but fell to Norkett at the back post to smash low but was denied by a De Gea esque save with the keeper’s feet.

Charlie McNeill came off the bench in the 59th minute with Sam Mather and the duo made an immediate impact.

Mainoo drove at the heart of Derby, holding off multiple tackles before laying it off to Mather who got a lucky bounce off the defender to set up McNeill for an easy tap in to double the lead.

Five minutes later, Mather was playing provider again when he turned on the edge of the box and found McNeill open on the right who tried to curl with the outside of his right boot but couldn’t get enough around it leading to a routine save for the keeper.

Roles reversed in the 84th minute when McNeill latched onto a long ball into the left channel and squared for Mather to slot home at the back post from five yards out to seal the victory.

The win brings United into third place with the season’s last match in two weeks against Nottingham Forest but not before the host the same side in the FA Youth Cup final.

United: Wooster, Lawrence, Aljofree, Jackson, Murray, Oyedele, Mainoo, Norkett (Mather 59), Forson (Collyer 59), Ennis, Hugill (McNeill 59)

United's next superstar nets brace as he looks to earn debut from Rangnick

Manchester United’s u18s were in action on Wednesday away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Just 16 hours after their match against Blackburn, Travis Binnion was forced to field a completely new starting XI to handle the extreme fixture congestion.

The rotated side looked to get on the front foot early as Isak Hansen-Aaroen feinted and charged through the midfield before laying it out wide for Sam Mather but the winger’s cross was too close to the keeper who was able to collect.

It was Hansen-Aaroen leading the charge again moments later when intercepted in the midfield and drove at the Wolves defence to set up Charlie McNeill for a shot on the right side of the box which was tipped over the bar.

The in-form Ethan Ennis joined the action looking to score one of these trademark goals as he cut in from the left and rifled an effort just inches wide.

Just before the break, a great counterattack looked to give United the lead after Ennis bundled home the rebound from Mather’s attempt with a clever backheel but the ref was to call it off due to offside.

Despite being the more dangerous side in the first 45, United had to settle for going into the half at 0-0.

The second half saw Wolves come out with a new lease of life almost taking a quick lead when Nathan Fraser played a teasing ball across the six-yard box which only needed to be tapping into the open net but the sliding Owen Farmer couldn’t get enough contact on it to guide it towards goal.

Seconds later, Fraser wouldn’t make the same mistake though and gave Wolves the lead. Tom Wooster came charging out of his goal to close down Farmer on the wing but couldn’t get there in time allowing Fraser to receive the cross and slot it into an open net.

After playing through United’s press Fraser was played in behind the backline to run in and finish past Wooster to double the Wolves lead in the 53rd minute.

It was almost another immediately after when Fraser held off Marc Jurado and turned to set up Farmer but a big save from Wooster kept United in it.

The 75th minute saw the introduction of Toby Collyer for his first appearance with the club after his signing in March.

United pulled one after Hansen-Aaroen slid in to win back possession at the edge of the Wolves area and the ball was played out to James Nolan who slid in a low cross for McNeill to take with a brilliant turn before smashing into the bottom corner with his left boot.

Chasing the equaliser until the dying moments it was in injury time when McNeill popped up again to save the day with his second on the day. A perfectly weighted through ball from the u16 Adam Berry allowed McNeill to come onto the ball in stride and finish into the left corner.

A late winner was almost on the cards as well when Nolan crossed for Mather to hit but he couldn’t keep the ball down as it soared into the stands.

The match ended 2-2 leaving United tied for third place with two matches left in the season.

United: Pye, Aljofree, Jurado, Lawrence (Nolan 62), Oyedele (Collyer 75), Curley, Ennis (Berry 62), Hansen-Aaroen, Mather, McNeill
