Rangnick reveals Man United's interesting plans for January transfer window

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has told fans what they can expect in regards to the January transfer market.

The German boss is coming across his first window as manager and supporters are keen to see what he will do.

“Rangnick on January incomings: “The transfer window in the winter only makes sense if they increase the quality. So far we have not spoken about that.
“My focus is on the current players, we have enough players so there is no lack of numbers.” #MUFC”

Rangnick has a reputation for building young, talented squads with tonnes of potential and so his appointment left fans hoping to see him do the same at Old Trafford.

This is despite him only joining as an interim manager, though he will later have a consultant role for two further years.

The early noise coming out was that Rangnick will only invest if a smart investment pops up or if lots of sales are made.

As such, it seems United will take the window as it comes rather than proactively seek to make statement signings.

Rangnick has made it clear in the past that the squad is large enough to deal with the demands of the league, even hinting that it is a bit bloated.

It’s obvious that if the former RB Leipzig man does invest, he will certainly pay attention to the midfield, a position that was neglected by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Fred and Scott McTominay often partner each other in midfield and both have been criticised for not being good enough, although the latter played superbly vs Burnley.

Nonetheless, for now, Rangnick has kept his cards close to his chest and it remains to be seen what smart moves he will make.

100% successful dribbles, 100% shot accuracy: United star has world-class performance vs. Burnley

Scott McTominay put in a man of the match performance today as Manchester United cruised past Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

The Scotsman scored United’s first goal with a well-placed pass into the net and saw another spectacular effort tipped onto the woodwork by the keeper – leading to a Ronaldo tap-in for another goal – and a third saved by Hennessy with his fingertips.

The successful strike was “McSauce”’s first league goal since February – a run of 28 games – and well worth waiting for.

McTominay is clearly happy at home. His last seven goals have been scored at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old was particularly impressive in the first half, registering 100% successful dribbles, 74% pass accuracy, winning four duels, making four ball recoveries (joint most), two successful long passes, creating one chance and, of course, scoring that goal.
.

His overall figures for the 90 minutes were almost as impressive.

He registered 100% shot accuracy, 75% pass accuracy, nine ball recoveries (most), won eight duels (most) and won five fouls (most).

Playing alongside specialist holding midfielder Nemanja Matic allowed the Scotsman to play a couple of yards higher up the pitch than usual and to join the attack more often than his usual ‘dual pivot’ role permits.

He took the opportunity with both hands and dominated the midfield from start to finish.

The question is whether the academy graduate can produce this kind of form on a regular basis. Often in the past a performance such as this has felt like a breakthrough, only for him to return to mediocrity for the next few games.

Man United star shows glimpses of greatness in big performance vs Burnley

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho will feel pleased with himself following a positive display in the win over Burnley.

The young Englishman was handed a rare start and made sure to make his mark, repaying the faith shown in him by Ralf Rangnick.

Jadon Sancho’s game by numbers vs. Burnley:

93% pass accuracy
61 total touches
42 successful passes
21/23 final third passes
3/4 crosses completed
2/2 tackles won
1 chance created

So good in tight spaces. 👌”

Sancho also forced Burnley into conceding an own goal after a mazy run and what looked to be a fine finish.

A slight deflection showed that it was possible the former Borussia Dortmund man’s shot was initially going to be off target.

Unfortunately it meant he didn’t get a well-deserved goal but his statistics overall are still positive and evidence of a good performance.

There’s no doubt there were still a few things he could have done better but given he was somewhat rusty and is still adjusting to his new surroundings, it was a display he can build on.

Fans will hope he can continue to improve and show the type of consistent form he showed in Germany.

The talent is obviously there and it’s just a case of nurturing it and helping him continue to grow at his own pace.

Masterful midfield performance inspires United to emphatic win to close out 2021

Manchester United have closed out 2021 with a win at home against Burnley.

The Reds beat Sean Dyche’s team 3-1 in what was a brilliant game for Scott McTominay.

It was Burnley who had the first chance of the half, a lovely delivery from McNeil was headed just high and wide by Wood.

It seemed like one of those nights, the game was open, it was end to end and the next chance fell to Ronaldo who was through on goal but he smashed it high over the bar.

However, Ralf Rangnick had urged his United side to be more energetic and more clinical and the next sniff at goal, they capitalised upon.

Greenwood darted inside the box in the seventh minute but his shot was blocked, it fell kindly to him again and he played in Ronaldo who was lingering on the edge of the box, his first touch was heavy though but would have set him up nicely for a left footed shot if McTominay hadn’t beaten him to it and smashed it into the bottom corner with his right foot.

United held possession well and defended defiantly when Burnley did manage to push forward.
Around the twenty minute mark, Luke Shaw, who had come back into the team with a point to prove, burst forward and fired a long range shot in but unfortunately it rippled the side netting.

A free kick for Burnley in a dangerous area led to a good spell of possession for the team in claret and blue but they couldn’t make it count on that occasion.

In fact it was United who made good on their chances once again as a mix up between the Burnley defenders allowed Shaw to set up Jason Sancho who danced into the box and slotted it into the far corner, although it was credited as an own goal having taken a slight deflection off Ben Mee.

Ronaldo was working hard and had another chance and Greenwood too aimed to get himself on the score sheet with a powerful shot finding Hennessey’s gloves.

McTominay was enjoying his game and ran on to a ball, taking it first time, a rocket of a shot was superbly pushed onto to post by Hennessey but Ronaldo was there for the rebound and tapped it in as Hennessey scrambled back to his feet.

However, Burnley responded and within minutes they had clawed one back. Aaron Lennon with a brilliant run into the box nestled it into the far corner.

The second half began and United picked up where they left off with a chance for Ronaldo which went wide. Greenwood too fired another rocket at the Burnley goal but it was well saved by Hennessey.

From a Burnley corner United made a counter attack with Sancho leading the charge. The Burnley defence tracked back and Sancho hesitated, eventually it was Scott McTominay that got the shot away, another long range power strike that was tipped over the bar by Hennessey. McTominay could have had a hat-trick!

It was Cavani’s turn to take a shot. Sancho crossed to Ronaldo who headed it down to Cavani. He took it first time, swiping at it first time, blasting it straight at the keeper from close range, hitting Hennessey in the face. Another brilliant save from the Welsh international.

United didn’t have it all their own way, Burnley showed some good spells and had a couple of late chances from set pieces but United had more drive than in recent games and it paid off.

United ended 2021 with a fantastic win in front of the home fans at the Theatre of Dreams.

This player hands down United's star of the night vs Burnley - player ratings

Manchester United eased comfortably past Burnley tonight at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Here are our player ratings for the game.

(A score of 6 is around average.)

David de Gea 6 – Had little to do.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 4.5 – Positionally poor as is often the case. Slack backpass gifted Burnley a corner in the 89th minue. Offered little going forward. Did not do enough to win his place back from Diogo Dalot.

Eric Bailly 6 – Quiet game for Bailly until the injury. Hopefully it won’t rule him out of AFCON.

Harry Maguire 4 – So easily passed for the goal. Why was he showing him inside?

Luke Shaw 7.5 – Best performance from Shaw for ages. Rangnick has a tough decision ahead as to whether to recall Alex Telles.

Nemanja Matic 7 – Kept the defence protected well for the most part.

Scott McTominay 9 – Easily man of the match. Great goal, another that hit the woodwork, another saved with the fingertips … one of those “we really have got a world class player here” games. He rarely is able to do it consistently, but playing a few yards up the pitch definitely suits him.

Mason Greenwood 8 – Played well. Worked hard, passed intelligently and on current form should start ahead of the likes of Marcus Rashford.

Jadon Sancho 7 – Pretty much scored a goal – though it was by deflection an OG, and was reasonable today without really looking confident.

Edinson Cavani 7 – Didn’t have many chances but led the line well.

Cristiano Ronaldo 7 – The goal saved him because he had squandered some chances before that. Not at his best, but still pretty damn good.

Substitutes

Raphael Varane 6 – Didn’t influence the game much.

Diogo Dalot 6 – Did not really influence the game.

Fred 6 – Didn’t affect the game.

United target's agent flying in to England to close deal this week - report

Manchester United are reportedly preparing an offer for River Plate’s Julian Alvarez.

According to tier-one Spanish journalist Verno Brunati (Sport), the Red Devils are willing to pay his £20 million release clause.

The player’s agent Fernando Hidalgo will travel to England this week to finalise the deal.

Alvarez is one of the hottest prospects in South America, and the report claims him to be the ‘best striker in Argentine football.’

Alvarez has tasted success at such a young age, winning the Copa America with Argentina and the Primera Division (first division) with River Plate in 2021.

In 53 games played this season, the 21 year old has netted 23 times and registered 18 assists.

FC Barcelona were keen on signing the player if they couldn’t land Ferran Torres from Manchester city.

Other interested clubs include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. However, the Spanish outlet claim that the Red Devils are at the front of the pack to sign him.

United view him as a prospect with great potential.

These reports make a lot of sense, especially after rumours of the possible departures of Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial.

With the exception of Marcus Rashford, United lack an explosive forward to stretch out the opposition.

The 21 year old is a quick and dynamic player who would suit Ralf Rangnick’s direct style of play.

At £20 million Alvarez is a possible bargain and could prove to be a shrewd signing for the club.

Fabrizio Romano confirms talks under way for United star's big move to Italy

Napoli have contacted Manchester United about a deal for centre-back Axel Tuanzebe, according to reliable sources in Italy.

Tuanzebe is currently on loan at Aston Villa but is not a regular in the starting XI and would have hoped for more game time.

Meanwhile, Napoli are looking for cover in the position after losing Kostas Manolas to Olympiakos and with Kalidou Koulibaly injured and also expected to play in the African Cup of Nations.

‘Napoli are in contact with Manchester United through intermediaries to discuss potential loan fee and buy option for Axel Tuanzebe. The centre back is appreciated but price tag will be key to proceed in negotiations’, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted this morning.

Romano’s information corroborates claims by another leading specialist, Gianluca Di Marzio, who claimed yesterday evening that ‘Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club is interested in the player and has started contact with the Red Devils to understand if there is the possibility of switching from one loan to another.

‘Napoli, in fact, is waiting to see if they can take him on loan with the right of redemption.’

For their part, Villa probably have little power to resist the move, having not given Tuanzebe enough minutes.

Tuttomercatoweb says the next 48 hours are crucial:

‘What is missing, at the moment, is an agreement on the amount that Napoli must pay to United for the defender’s transfer, otherwise the operation seems already very well underway. So for Tuanzebe, 24, the next 48 hours will be decisive for his future in Italy.’

Tuanzebe’s market value according to transfermarkt.com is just £6.8 million, but United will probably demand more in the ‘option to buy’ part of the contract.

United must decide whether they are willing to grant a buy option for an academy graduate who at 24 may still develop into a world class defender but who may equally have already reached his peak. If they believe the latter is the case, then a deal with Napoli could well be on the cards in the coming hours or days.

Rangnick faces crisis as another top United star missing from training amid Covid-19 fears

With Victor Lindelof already missing from Manchester United’s squad for the visit of Burnley tonight due to Covid-19, fans are holding their breath hoping that no other players will be affected.

It is of some concern, therefore, that The MEN’s report of the Red Devils’ Wednesday training session notes that goalkeeper David de Gea was not present at Carrington.

There could of course be a number of reasons for the Spaniard’s absence but with no known injury issues, the possibility of a positive Covid test cannot be ruled out.

If De Gea is unable to play for whatever reason, it will come as a serious blow for United as he has been in superb form this season.

He has also needed to be, with the Reds coming under the cosh in most of their recent games.

It would be ironic if a positive Covid test for the former Atletico Madrid man allows Dean Henderson to win his place back in the team.

Henderson was tipped to be previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice keeper this season after De Gea’s poor form last term, but it was long Covid that kept the younger man out of the side at the start of the season.

The Spaniard took his chance with both hands and Henderson has hardly had a look-in since.

Reports have claimed he has asked to leave the club on loan in January to get game time but also that manager Ralf Rangnick has refused to sanction the move as he wants three keepers at the club (with Tom Heaton being the third).

That decision could prove to be an excellent one already if Henderson is drafted into the side tonight.

Elsewhere in the team there were no obvious omissions from the training squad other than long-term absentee Paul Pogba and, of course, Lindelof.

Bruno Fernandes will also be unavailable for tonight’s game due to suspension.

'Frustrated' Rangnick might have to hit the nuclear button to bring United success

If new manager Ralf Rangnick was under any illusions about the scale of his Manchester United reboot, he probably isn’t anymore.

After a promising first match against Crystal Palace, performances have quickly reverted back to unconvincing lows against relegation-threatened Norwich and Newcastle.

Although United took 4 points from those 2 games, the sense of uncertainty and incoherence were reminiscent of the inept tail end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s reign.

And so, with fingers currently being pointed in every which direction, The Athletic has questioned whether the German’s 4-2-2-2 formation is part of the problem.

It’s first acknowledged that the players didn’t help themselves by squabbling incessantly for much of the 90 minutes. However, it’s also suggested that the new formation might have contributed towards that collective frustration.

The Reds’ inability to get to grips with this new system led to them losing possession a staggering 167 times. That’s even worse than the 160 occasions they ceded control in the debacle at Watford.

In this respect, United’s single biggest offender was Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder typified his recent poor form by giving the ball to a black and white shirt a whopping 26 times.

The fact that the visitors made Newcastle – a side that has conceded a record 80 goals this calendar year – look like a tight defensive unit is seen as further proof of systemic failings.

Rangnick himself blamed the sub-par display on, “a question of physicality; meeting the demands in terms of speed, tempo…” but was concerned enough to switch to a 4-1-3-2 in the second half. The 4-2-2-2 just wasn’t working.

On the subject of that half-time switch, he explained, “The intention was to play on the wing, it was the way we prepared our equaliser. We had another two opportunities from playing the ball behind their back four.”

The 63-year-old’s frustration about his side’s failure to exploit that width was evidenced by his screaming, “No, no f****** hell!” following a poor Jadon Sancho cross. It’s a chorus that was no doubt heartily echoed by the many watching United fans.

It’s also suggested that the visitors’ failure to make hay on the flanks is exacerbated by the quality of full-back currently available to Rangnick.

4-2-2-2 is so narrow in central and attacking areas that it puts greater demands on the likes of Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot to turn provider.

And, while both have been in pretty decent form, neither has quite provided the cutting edge to make up for the absence of traditional wide-men.

So what next for the German visionary? Does he tinker with personnel and stick rigidly to his preferred formation? Maybe he compromises and tries a tweaked version of his ideal set up?

Or perhaps he just goes full nuclear and drops one or more of his problematic trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford or Fernandes. It’s time for even the best players to adapt or be replaced.

Rangnick set for clash with Man United star over strong decision: report

Manchester United may have a real problem on their hands after Ralf Rangnick reportedly made a decision on Dean Henderson‘s future.

The former RB Leipzig man hasn’t been at the club for long but has already had to make difficult decisions.

According to Manchester Evening News, Rangnick has informed Henderson he’s going nowhere in the January transfer window, not even on loan.

The young goalkeeper wants regular minutes but has been told by the German boss that three senior players must remain at the club.

The report claims the two could end up clashing over the decision and with Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax monitoring, it could spell trouble.

Spurs are said to be keen on a summer transfer should Hugo Lloris end up leaving the club or get too close to the end of his contract.

It’s understood Henderson felt mismanaged by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after being promised minutes but not seeing much action.

The Englishman is so upset that he’s prepared to leave permanently, though United have shown no signs they’re open to allowing that to happen.

It seemed strange that Solskjaer signed Tom Heaton in the first place this summer as Lee Grant was already at the club as third choice.

Henderson may have been promised more minutes but he unfortunately caught Covid and struggled to shake it off effectively.

Couple that with David de Gea being back to his best meant it would always be difficult to break into the starting XI again.

Unfortunately it means he either has to sit and wait for his chance again or seek football elsewhere, though it’s understandable Rangnick is hesitant to let him go.

Gary Neville sends strong message to Man United stars after dressing room unrest

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has called on the players to sort out the problems going on at the minute amongst themselves.

Reports emerged of growing dressing room unrest following the disappointing draw with Newcastle United.

“On United I’m seeing reports of dressing room dissatisfaction this morning. Something wasn’t right v Norwich and certainly not v Newcastle. Still 4 pts from those games is not a disaster considering the performance levels . Have a meeting ( without staff ) and sort it out! 🙏

“Performances haven’t been good for months but the body language in the last 2 games ( highlighted by RR post Norwich ) has been woeful!!”

Fans have naturally been disappointed with the performances of late but more so they have been furious with the leaks that came out.

Ralf Rangnick’s first match in charge vs Crystal Palace was the only performance where supporters got to see elements of control and dominance from the players.

Since then, performances have gradually dropped and fans have recognised the team were lucky to get results they didn’t deserve.

Supporters were particularly upset with the leaks because Rangnick hasn’t been around long enough for the players to seemingly turn on him or become annoyed with him already.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer paid the price for protecting the players and so fans were hoping the team could now show what they’re all about under a new manager.

Instead the attitude has seemingly been poor and the performances haven’t been good enough considering the standard of opposition and the favourable fixture list.

Rangnick drops major hint about which star will be recalled for Burnley fixture

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has hinted that Edinson Cavani will start tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Burnley at Old Trafford.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference for tomorrow’s game, which was held after the post-match Newcastle conference, the boss confirmed that he had considered starting Cavani at St James’ Park but the player was not sure enough of his fitness.

‘Actually the last two days I was also considering playing him from the start,’ he said.

‘I spoke to him yesterday and also the day before yesterday and he didn’t feel comfortable to play from the beginning because he didn’t know how fit he really was.

‘But today [Monday] after being 1-0 down at half time it was clear to me we had to take more risks, we had to change something and that’s why we decided to bring on him and Jadon at half time.’

He also hinted during the same presser that the two number 10’s – Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford – were as responsible as centre-backs Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire for United’s defensive frailties.

‘Rafa … and Harry … did OK. Our problem was again that we allowed too many transitional moments’, he said.

‘This is not only a problem of the centre-backs, it’s a problem of the whole team and it starts up front.

‘And we can speak also about the role of the number 10s in that kind of formation.’

With Fernandes suspended for tomorrow’s game, the criticism means that Rashford’s position may also be under threat, which would almost certainly mean a start for Cavani if he is fit.

This will most probably be alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, although the manager’s criticism of the forward players may also have been aimed at United’s number 7.

Anthony Martial may be in contention to replace one of the offenders after resuming full training. Paul Pogba and Victor Lindelof remain sidelined.

Man United told when to expect Erling Haaland decision: report

Manchester United target Erling Haaland’s club Borussia Dortmund wants a decision about his future by the end of February.

The long-standing target has been on the radar of many top European clubs as the striker searches for his next steps.

Before his move to the German club, Haaland was of interest to Man United but ultimately opted for elsewhere.

United’s interest hasn’t waned but instead many top clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona are now rumoured to be in the race.

The 21-year-old’s agent hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the striker staying beyond next summer but it does look increasingly unlikely.

By the end of the season, it could all depend on if the club is participating in next season’s Champions League.

A lot could also depend on whether the much-reported €75 million release clause is in fact real, as a recent report suggested that there was no such entry in his contract.

According to German transfer expert, Bild’s Christian Falk, Dortmund want Haaland to make a decision on his future by the end of February.

He said in the tweet “The Transfer-Poker with @ErlingHaaland: @bvb wants a decision of Haaland about his future by the end of February”.

Many reports are claiming that Haaland will make his decision at the end of the season but Dortmund’s desire to have it sorted out by March could change the schedule.

United fans will be hoping that the club can do everything they can to secure the striker if he was to leave next summer.

However, they will need to do a lot in the meantime as they sit outside of the Champions League positions.

United stars give Rangnick unexpected headache as morale drops to new low

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick reportedly has a sensitive situation on his hands as he attempts to turn things around at the club.

The former RB Leipzig man has had a turbulent time so far and it’s safe to say he would have preferred things to have gone a little differently.

According to the Daily Mail, Rangnick is trying to resolve the dressing room unrest that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left behind, with there being concerns in regards to the attitude of the players.

The report claims Harry Maguire has been more subdued since Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing and that there’s a possibility of a leadership struggle.

It’s understood the current mood in the training camp is ‘very low’ and the players are rather cliquey, which hasn’t been helped by the canteen’s new structure of six four-seater booths.

It’s also been said that the squad are finding it hard to get used to Rangnick’s late training sessions as they end up leaving at 5pm in the dark.

The Mail go on to mention off-the-pitch concerns such as Dean Henderson‘s desire to hold talks with Rangnick as he’s frustrated with the lack of minutes he’s got.

The goalkeeper is said to regret signing his new deal but the German boss wants to have three senior goalkeepers so it’s unlikely the Englishman leaves until the summer.

Eric Bailly is another who reportedly questioned extending his stay as he’s continued to be left out, though he was surprised to be called back to the club from the airport on Monday just as he was about to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Fans have to give Rangnick the chance to resolve these issues as it will take time, along with the players getting used to his tactics.

Given the numerous problems that have continued to come out, it’s no surprise he wasn’t keen on taking on interim jobs in the past, most notably turning down a move to Chelsea.

Supporters have often complained about the attitude and mentality of the squad so it’s no surprise to see Rangnick trying to stamp it all out but it will take time.

United star may be released on a free to join La Liga side in January - report

Manchester United’s forgotten star Juan Mata is wanted by Spanish club Real Sociedad on a free transfer in January.

The Basque outfit are hoping to persuade bosses at Old Trafford to release the 33-year-old so they can sign him on a free transfer deal in January.

Mata has been with Man United since his arrival in 2014 and was an integral part of their Europa League win in the 2016-17 season.

However, for the last two seasons, Mata has only played in nine league games and has been rarely been used from the bench.

Many fans question why he was given a one-year contract extension last summer after only making three appearances in all competitions so far this season.

According to The Sun, Real Sociedad are keen to lure the former Chelsea midfielder back to La Liga for the final few years of his career after spending 10 years in the Premier League.

Mata first arrived in England in 2011 where he spent three seasons at Stamford Bridge before securing a £37.1m transfer to Manchester.

Real Sociedad’s manager Imanol Alguacil believes Mata’s experience will help the team push for a Champions League spot as they currently sit in sixth place.

However, the Spanish midfielder must take a pay cut if a move back to Spain is to be successful.

The outlet concludes by saying Barcelona could join the race to sign Mata if he is released in January.

The La Liga giants tried to sign him back in 2014 and have always remained interested in capturing his signature.

United fans will want the club to release the sensational midfielder if he doesn’t get the playing time he deserves.

The Sun hilariously conned into reporting prank Ronaldo story as fact

A national British newspaper, The Sun, has fallen for a prank in a Spanish paper and published a spoof article about Cristiano Ronaldo as fact.

The article claims that Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United and has contacted FC Barcelona head coach Xavi via Gerard Pique to offer his services to the Catalan side.

The original article appeared in Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo yesterday and The Sun picked up the story this morning.

‘His agent Jorge Mendes is also already negotiating terms with Barca president Joan Laporta, according to Mundo Deportivo,’ The Sun’s William Pugh reports.

‘He is said to have contacted Xavi ‘a few days ago’ thanks to an introduction by his former United team-mate Pique.

‘[Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge] Mendes has a good relationship with Laporta and the pair are already discussing the viability of the move.’

What The Sun failed to notice in the tweet from the Spanish outlet included in the report is the pinned comment by Mundo Deportivo, ‘Feliz Dia de los Santos Inocentes’, on their own tweet.

The 28th December is a special day in the Spanish Christian calendar which allows pranks, similar to the British April Fools’ Day.

The Sun reporter should have smelled a rat when reading the part of the story about Pique arranging for the Portuguese legend to rent Lionel Messi’s house. It reads:

‘Piqué also contacted Leo Messi to find out if the Argentine would be willing to rent his house in Gavà to Cristiano, because the Portuguese was especially excited to have seven Ballons d’Or at home, even if they were not his. “If he takes care of the ballons and does not take any, there would be no problem in renting the house,” said Messi, surprised.’

The Sun reported this as ‘and in what would be a dramatic twist, Pique also asked Lionel Messi if his arch-nemesis could rent his house from him if Ronaldo joined.’

Mundo’s spoof also claimed that ‘although he wanted the number 10 shirt, Cristiano will become CR17, as he will inherit the number that Luuk de Jong leaves free … Before it was worn, among others, by Bogarde, Amunike, Alcácer and Trincao.’

Mundo then goes on to claim that Ronaldo would prefer to play in the Europa League because ‘he will have the opportunity to fight for a title that he does not have on his record.

‘Only once did Cristiano play in the UEFA Cup, in his last season at Sporting de Portugal, but they were eliminated in the first round by Partizan Belgrade.

‘The Portuguese has that thorn stuck in his side and considers that now at Barça he could aspire to the title.

‘In addition, he has confessed to his intimates that the Europa League is a title that Messi does not have and if he wins it, he could surpass the Argentine at something.’

The Mirror have also reported the story as fact this morning.

How long the article will remain up on The Sun’s site before the joke is rumbled remains unknown.

4-1-1-2-2: United will be on fire against Burnley with this exciting line-up

After a disappointing 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Monday, Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick may decide to ring the changes for tomorrow night’s home tie with Burnley at Old Trafford.

One player who definitely won’t start is Bruno Fernandes, who is suspended for the game having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against the Magpies.

He joins Victor Lindelof (Covid-19) and Paul Pogba (hip) on the sidelines, with Anthony Martial also doubtful having only just returned to full training recently.

The Daily Mail reports that Eric Bailly ‘was surprised to receive a call at the airport on Monday informing him that he would be needed against Burnley on Thursday just as he was about to fly to the Africa Cup of Nations.’ This suggests that either Harry Maguire or Raphael Varane are doubtful for tomorrow’s game.

Varane looked a yard off the pace against Newcastle on his return from injury and it may be that two games in four days will be too much for him.

We think that Bailly could therefore take his place.

Elsewhere in defence, David de Gea is in the form of his life in goal and although not as impressive against Newcastle, Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles probably did enough to keep their places, although Rangnick might decide to give Aaron Wan-Bissaka and/or Luke Shaw a run out.

In midfield, Fred was hauled off at half time on Monday after a poor performance and Scott McTominay was struggling physically and was replaced by Nemanja Matic in the 78th minute. So far there are no reports of an injury to either player but it would not be a surprise if either or both were missing tomorrow.

If McTominay is fit, he will probably play but Fred might give way to Donny van de Beek who could play just ahead of McTominay (or Matic) in a 4-1-1-2-2 system.

Edinson Cavani was a breath of fresh air when coming on as sub on Monday and if fit enough, he should start up front alongside (presumably) Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mason Greenwood was another to be taken off at half time against the Magpies so his replacement, Jadon Sancho, might get the start tomorrow even though his own performance was nothing special.

Marcus Rashford is also struggling for form but with Anthony Martial’s fitness issues and request to leave the club, it seems unlikely he will be brought in to replace him. Other options are Anthony Elanga and Jesse Lingard, but we think Rangnick will stick to two of the Greenwood/Sancho/Rashford trio in those twin 10 positions.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted XI for tomorrow’s 8.15pm kick-off:

A possible bargain: United could land this young defender with world-class potential

Manchester United are said to be one of the clubs interested in signing Ronald Araujo from FC Barcelona next season.

In a forgettable campaign so far, Araujo has been one of Barcelona’s shining lights.

The 22-year-old entered the senior squad time last season and has now established himself as an integral part of the team.

The Uruguayan’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, with a host of clubs reportedly interested in his signature.

Barcelona will be looking to avoid a similar situation to that which occurred with Ilaix Moriba, who refused to sign a contract and left the club for RB Leipzig.

Spanish outlet Sport claim that Araujo has ‘very important offers’ on the table from clubs, one of them being Man Utd.

He is reportedly unhappy with his current salary and feels he deserves more, considering his recent performances.

Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet and Eric Garcia earn more than him despite not putting up good displays on the pitch.

Araujo would be an exciting choice for United. The Red Devils are stacked with centre backs but have failed to cement a definite partnership.

Many have questioned Harry Maguire‘s ability, especially in one-on-one situations. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof has been susceptible aerially.

Araujo has the potential to be one of the best centre backs in the world and can be the cornerstone of United’s defence for years to come.

A lot depends on Barcelona’s ability to hand him the big contract he’s searching for, otherwise the Red Devils could swoop in.

Premier League midfield star could be Rangnick's first signing in January

Manchester United are reportedly targetting a January move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

According to the Mirror (via Fichajes), United are looking to take the lead in negotiations with Wolves to secure their man. The report claims his starting price to be around £35 million.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick reportedly wants to bolster his team’s midfield.

Since his arrival, United have been linked to a host of midfielders, including Jude Bellingham, Amadou Haidara, Kalvin Phillips, and Boubacar Kamara.

Neves at Wolves could be a suitable option for United’s midfield.

At 24, he is Premier League proven and has been playing in England since 2017.

Neves is a complete midfielder and is effective in attack and defence.

Neves is a great tackler who uses his agility and tenacity to break up play. Good on the ball, the Portuguese can score spectacular goals from outside the box, adding a further attacking threat to the side.

At United, Rangnick could deploy him in the pivot alongside Fred, Scott McTominay, or Donny Van de Beek.

Man Utd’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle United last night highlighted the need for a midfielder capable of controlling possession.

Neves is an important cog in Bruno Lage’s Wolves side and it would be difficult to lure him away mid-season.

Moreover, Chelsea and Arsenal are the other clubs closely keeping tabs on him and could rival United in his signing.

"I'm not having that": Gary Neville criticises senior United stars for this reason

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, admitting there’s one thing he wouldn’t stand.

The Portuguese pair started the clash vs Newcastle United but couldn’t help their side come away with the three points.

“🗣 “It’s devastating for the younger players if the two best players are looking at the others as if they’re not good enough.”

@GNev2 blasts Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes for their whinging and running off the pitch at full-time”

Bruno received plenty of criticism from fans after an incredibly wasteful match, as his high-risk passing strategy didn’t pay off.

With the talented midfielder, the ends often justify the means but with his goals and assists drying up, he’s beginning to frustrate many people.

Ronaldo is a remarkable finisher and one of the best players to ever grace the game but he can often become isolated in matches.

When he’s isolated he becomes agitated and visibly sulks on the pitch, so much so it’s even rubbed Neville the wrong way.

Supporters have also noticed how some players, notably Ronaldo, have ignored them and gone straight down the tunnel at the end of matches, particularly when the team hasn’t played well.

This has upset fans, particularly when United are playing away games as it’s taken so much more effort to follow the team.

It’s certainly a standard Ralf Rangnick must instil into the whole squad and no one can be exempt from it, including Ronaldo.

Manchester United’s January transfer business gets underway after Rangnick receives official offer

Manchester United star Anthony Martial may reportedly get his wish to leave after Sevilla made a loan offer for him.

The talented Frenchman has asked interim manager Ralf Rangnick to depart this January in a bid to secure more minutes.

“Exclusive: #Sevilla have made an offer to #ManchesterUnited to loan Anthony Martial. Straight loan until end of season with no purchase option nor ob. #mufc yet to respond. More on #SSN and online shortly https://ift.tt/3H5jDzt;

Rangnick has made it clear that what Martial wants has to fall in line with what United want in regards to the transfer window.

What he essentially meant by that is that the former AS Monaco man wouldn’t simply get his move away because he wanted it but rather that the Red Devils should benefit from the situation too.

This means Rangnick won’t allow a situation where Manchester United are left short of options in their attack simply because Martial wanted to leave.

If the versatile attacker departs, it will have to be in a situation where United benefit from the deal and are well-stocked.

Given Sevilla’s offer is just a normal loan with no fees and no obligation to buy, it’s difficult to see Rangnick accepting the bid.

Martial’s agent had publicly announced his client’s desire to leave this winter and it’s said that frustrated the German boss as he wasn’t spoken to first.

Rangnick made it clear he wasn’t informed beforehand and that the pair should have held a conversation with him before going public.

It’s clearly a sensitive situation and one that has the potential to get ugly if neither party gets what they want from the deal.

Horrific stat shows how poor Rangnick's United were vs Newcastle

Manchester United were certainly poor vs Newcastle United but one stat stands out as the worst of them all and will certainly concern Ralf Rangnick.

The German boss witnessed his disappointing players scrape a 1-1 draw against one of the worst teams in the league.

“Allan Saint-Maximin produced as many shots on target as the entire Man Utd team combined this evening (4).”

The stat above comes despite United maintaining around 70% possession and despite Rangnick making half-time substitutions in a bid to change the tie.

The former RB Leipzig man brought off Mason Greenwood and Fred for Edinson Cavani and Jadon Sancho in an effort to win the match.

At the time, the Red Devils were 1-0 down and didn’t seem capable of turning around the tie at all.

Luckily Cavani grabbed the equaliser after the team stumbled their way into a good and desperately needed opportunity.

Rangnick has been busy discussing how he wants his players to maintain control of ties more often and to keep their defensive solidity.

Unfortunately the performance left many fans questioning what the team were doing during their Covid-enforced break.

Manchester United had a long time to prepare for the match and instead of looking fresh, they looked rusty and indecisive.

The shots on target stat is especially disappointing given how United play with a front four capable of the spectacular.

Varane the weakest link, but these two United stars share man of the match

Manchester United scraped a somewhat lucky 1-1 draw against struggling Newcastle United at St. James’ Park this evening in the Premier League. Here are our player ratings for the game.

(A score of 6 is around average.)

David de Gea 8 – Had little to do in the first half despite seeing two go past (one offside). Good save at the start of the second half and brilliant one at the end.

Diogo Dalot 5.5 – Bit of a wake-up after recent good performances. Not horrible, but disappointing.

Raphael Varane 3 – Gave away possession for the goal and again badly around the half hour mark. Just looked off the pace and error prone throughout.

Harry Maguire 5.5 – Not very good at mopping up after Varane’s mistakes, but played some good forward passes. Could not handle Saint Maximin.

Alex Telles 7 – Did OK, especially in set pieces, but nothing spectacular.

Scott McTominay 6.5 – Eric Cantona once referred to Didier Deschamps as ‘a water carrier’. Scott is the same type of player, but not a bad one.

Fred 4 – Terrible passing. Deserved to be subbed.

Bruno Fernandes 8 – Put Greenwood through for the best chance of the first half and Dalot in the lead up to the equaliser. Was also the last line of defence for a couple of counter attacks. Struggling to find his best form, but still a valuable contribution. Better when playing deeper in second half. Never hides.

Marcus Rashford 4 – Horrible first half on right wing, slightly better second over to the left side. But how did Greenwood get subbed ahead of him? So bad lately it’s embarrassing.

Cristiano Ronaldo 4.5 – Complete air shots and a lot of whingeing. Not vintage CR7 by any means.

Mason Greenwood 5 – A bit anonymous but had the best chance of the first half, a little unlucky to be subbed.

Substitutes

Jadon Sancho 5.5 – Mostly poor again, although finished strongly. Rangnick was seen to be saying ‘No, no, f—ing hell’ at one point, which summed most of it up.

Edinson Cavani 7.5 – Thank God he’s back. Didn’t get a clean strike for the goal, but was in the right place and it went in.

Nemanja Matic 6 – Didn’t influence the game much.

What next for Martial after club’s offer to offload him is rejected?

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Anthony Martial wants to leave the club.

Following mass speculation about the player, the manager spoke to the media about him at the pre-match press conference ahead of tonight’s Newcastle tie.

Martial has been out of form for a long period now and hasn’t kicked on since the 2019/20 season where he scored 23 goals in all competitions, a career-high.

Since then he has only scored eight goals in the space of two years which is a senior career low for the striker.

He hasn’t been able to get back into the team since the arrival of Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo and the rise of Mason Greenwood.

At the presser (via the official Manchester United website), Rangnick explained Martial’s reasoning behind wanting to leave the club.

“Yes, we spoke yesterday at length and he explained to me that he has been with Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels that it might be the right time now for a change, to go somewhere else.”

“I know this is in a way understandable and I could follow his thoughts but on the other hand it’s also important to see the situation of the club.”

“We have COVID times, we have three competitions in which we still have high ambitions and want to be as successful as we can be.”

“And I told him, it [a move] should not only be in the interest of the player, it should also be in the interest of the club.”

“So far as far as I know, there has been no offer from any other club. And as long as this is the case, he will stay.”

The Peoples Person reported this week that the striker was close to agreeing a move to La Liga club Sevilla on an initial six-month loan deal.

However, from United’s perspective, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani are out of contract in the summer so a move in the winter market may be seen as a priority over selling or loaning Martial, who has a deal until June 2024.

Meanwhile, Tuttosport are reporting that the 26-year-old has been offered to Juventus and that he has not been completely discounted by them as they look to improve their strikeforce.

However, the outlet claims that he is not a priority for the Serie A side, who are not accelerating plans at the moment.

Juventus are looking for an out-and-out striker and while Martial has played there in recent seasons, Massimiliano Allegri may see him more as a winger than a specialist in the role.

Old Trafford stadium development announcement leaves fans drooling

Plans are being discussed to build a new stadium for Manchester United women and the academy teams as part of an attempt to modernise and upgrade Old Trafford.

Currently the women’s team and men’s under-23 side play their home matches at Leigh Sports Village whilst the under-18’s play at Carrington.

Although Old Trafford is the largest club stadium in the UK, fans have criticised the Glazers for failing to maintain and improve the ground when so many clubs around them have invested.

Now, as upgrades to the training facility are already underway, plans are being made for Old Trafford with a number of options being discussed such as increasing the capacity of the south stand.

Though nothing has been formally agreed it is thought that the capacity could increase from 74,140 to 80,000.

Keen discussions with architectural and engineering companies are ongoing, to build the men’s and women’s stadium on the same site as Old Trafford.

Chief operating officer, Collette Roche told the Telegraph that the various meetings had produced “exciting potential ideas” and that the club had “an open mind about the best approach and scope of work.”

United have already spent around £5 million upgrading Carrington with a master planner now in place to continue the redevelopment.

The plan is to create a fully integrated, three group facility for the men’s, women’s and academy teams.

This comes after the women moved to Carrington during Covid but with the need to keep in bubbles it has caused some logistical issues.

Though the redevelopment plans for Old Trafford are still very much in the negotiation stages, the approach they have shown with the training facilities demonstrates that having an integrated match day site might be a desirable option for the club.

United hope to have a master planner in place early in the New Year when we should hear more finalised or preferred options for the redevelopment.

Man United to miss out on key target to another PL club

Manchester United could be about to miss out on signing Kieran Trippier from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish champions denied the English club any chance of signing the player six months ago unless United reached the asking price which was set at around £51m.

United went on to miss their chances of signing any right-back as there wasn’t a suitable option and the price tag Atletic set was considered to be very high.

This didn’t stop young talent Brandon Williams from achieving his loan move to Norwich City, which left the club with very few options at right-back.

Diogo Dalot at the time was considered an outcast and had very little playing time under his belt when it came to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s teams.

However, the managerial position changed and the Portuguese right-back had his chance because of an injury to regular Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Trippier could be heading to the Premier League in January but not to the Red Devils.

It has been a turbulent time for the right-back after a shoulder injury which has led to Marcos Llorente playing in the Englishman’s position for some matches this season.

Llorente’s form at right-back has allowed Atletico to lower their asking price and many more clubs are set to pounce for the talented defender.

The outlet reports that Newcastle could be about to sign him within days for 30 million euros.

This would mean United are set to miss out on signing the player they wanted during the summer but no doubt Dalot’s form has allowed the club to back down on signing another right-back in January.

It seems like the focus at the club will be to sign a new midfielder or a striker depending on if players leave the club next month.

Rangnick could rock the boat with this huge decision ahead of Newcastle clash

Manchester United face Newcastle United tonight at St. James’s Park in a vital Premier League encounter.

The Red Devils’ last game was a narrow 1-0 victory over Norwich City on December 11.

Since then, United have not played a single game due to the recent COVID outbreak among the squad and staff members.

During this time, teams like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham have accumulated points in their respective games. The race for the Champions League places is heating up, with plenty of teams in the mix.

United will be looking to take advantage of their favourable run of fixtures over the next few weeks to gather the maximum number of points before their tough run in March.

Tonight they face a Newcastle side that is battling against relegation. Having won just one game so far, Eddie Howe’s side will need a miraculous turnaround to stay in the division next season.

The Magpies have the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 41 goals so far.

Newcastle’s new owners will be looking to flex their financial muscles this January transfer window; hence the timing of this fixture benefits United.

The two teams’ previous clash this season was marked by Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, in which he scored a brace.

TEAM NEWS

Man Utd manager Ralf Rangnick gave a positive update regarding this squad situation after the forced break.

In his pre-match press conference, he stated: “We trained on Tuesday, yesterday and today, and we have 25 field players — he’s [Pogba] the only one missing out. Everyone else is on board. The development of the last week is extremely positive.”

From having 11 players in total available last week, he now has an almost fully fit squad to select from, with the sole exception of Paul Pogba.

As mentioned in our predicted eleven yesterday, Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani are back in the matchday squad.

From a Newcastle point of view, Isaac Hayden will be out due to suspension. Emile Krafth, Javier Manquilo and Jonjo Shelvey remain doubts for selection tonight.

Mourinho targets brilliant young United star as Dalot dreams fade - report

Jose Mourinho is targeting a swoop for Manchester United’s Charlie Wellens, according to a new report.

Interest from another former club of Mourinho’s, Tottenham Hotspur, is said to be rivalling Roma for Wellens’ signature.

A versatile player, Wellens has spent most of the past nine months at right-back but previously spent significant time as a right winger and central midfielder.

The Sun says “Mourinho is keen to bring Wellens to Roma after taking a shine to him during his spell at Old Trafford.”

Wellens “was brought into first-team training by Mourinho for experience” during the Portuguese manager’s time in Manchester.

A hard-working young player with a willingness to play across the pitch for the team, it is no surprise Wellens will have impressed Mourinho with his attitude.

With 17 appearances for United’s u23s this campaign, the youngster impressed the hierarchy enough to be added to Champions League B list before the Young Boys fixture but ultimately didn’t make the match day squad.

A strong stable of young right-backs at the club, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Ethan Laird and Marc Jurado in the academy, means any path into the first team will not be easy though.

As a result, Wellens may be tempted by the offer of senior football elsewhere.

Mourinho has been consistently linked with another United right back, Diogo Dalot, but the 21-year-old’s recent breakthrough into regular first team action may have put him out of reach and forced the Roma boss to think again.

The son of another United academy product, Charlie’s father Richie Wellens forged a long and successful career at clubs such as Blackpool, Leicester City, and Doncaster Rovers after leaving Manchester United.

Following in his father’s footsteps, the young Wellens will be sure to look to his father for guidance on taking the next step in his career.

Whether that move will be to Rome to play under Jose Mourinho or not, Wellens is certainly entering the crossroads in his development where he looks for senior football.

Rangnick tells Man United stars how they can get to the next level

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has opened up on the need for sports psychologists in the modern game and what new staff member Sascha Lense offers in particular.

The German boss has wasted no time in surrounding himself with people he can trust but one appointment in particular caught the eyes of the fans.

According to Sky Sports, Rangnick said: “I wouldn’t say I was surprised [that United didn’t have a sports pschologist].

“I know from Germany there are quite a few clubs who do not work with a sports psychologist. But, for me, it is absolutely logical.

“Every club has different experts for goalkeeping, for physical performance, for different areas of the field – defence, midfield, offence.

“The team of experts at some teams is probably bigger than the number of players in a squad.

“If you then consider the brain, the head, the way players, staff members or coaches think is the most relevant one, then for me it is only logical to have the best possible expert from that area in your staff.

“This is what it’s all about, to help the players think the right things and not think the wrong things. To develop players, the brain should help the body perform at the highest possible level.

“This is part of the jigsaw, of the puzzle. It’s important any top club, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world – have the best possible people, and they should at least have all those little pieces available.

“It shouldn’t be the case that in certain areas we don’t have anyone. I strongly believe that every club in the future should have someone in this department.

“Players at this level are under pressure to deliver and perform at the highest possible level. At times they might need help and might need somebody to speak to.

“That should not always only be the manager or head coach. It’s important for the players to know there is a neutral person, an expert, to whom they can address in situations where they might need a helping hand, or even somebody to just listen to them.

“In Germany, we had the case of Robert Enke, who committed suicide when he was still the German national team goalkeeper. If you look at this aspect of the game, it’s important to have somebody in your staff.

“Sascha watches every training session, he’s part of every meeting, he’s part of the staff and he speaks regularly with players.

“Of course, it is not obligatory, we do not force players to speak to Sascha, but they know he’s there. He’s a smart and decent guy, and he’s top in his job, I know that because we worked together at Leipzig for three years. The players will find that out very soon, if they haven’t already.”

United have often been accused of being mentally weak and bottling leads in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Naturally some of that has had to do with the football played on the pitch but other times it was to do with the personalities of the players who played.

The Red Devils couldn’t seem capable of winning matches comfortably and when they did take the lead, fans bit their nails until the final whistle, at the fear of conceding the kind of soft goals that became synonymous with the players’ defending.

A sports psychologist may not just alleviate the huge pressure it takes to play for Manchester United, which is why many players fail in successfully donning the famous red shirt, but he may also help build an unshakeable mentality.

Rangnick will hope that, although he can’t be rushed, Lense can make a quick impact on the players in this regard.

United star sends strong warning to 'intense' Rangnick ahead of Newcastle

Manchester United stars Nemanja Matic and David de Gea have been busy discussing what it’s like to work under Ralf Rangnick and what fans maybe can expect this season, starting with the clash vs Newcastle United.

According to the Mirror, Matic said: “I think this is the toughest league so far. When I came over in 2009, it was only Chelsea and Man United who were competing.

“Now there are a lot of teams who have a chance to win. The smaller ones have improved a lot and buy top-class players.”

He added: “Of course, it [adaptation] will take some time, but we have enough talent in the squad to understand quickly and play how he wants us to…

“We understand his ideas and how he wants to play, what he wants from us in every position. Gradually we will be where he wants us to be.”

According to the MailAcc, Matic said: “We want to finish of course in the top four and to win the Champions League and the FA Cup. We will see but that’s our target.

“These games we are favourites but we must show it on the pitch. Newcastle are in a bad position but they are a big club with big players and they will fight to stay in the league.”

According to the club’s official website, De Gea said: “We’ve been training hard, of course. It’s very intense, every training session, every moment with him [Rangnick] is intense.

“You have to give 100 per cent every time in training and in the games. Let’s see. It’s just the beginning, it’s been a couple of weeks, so let’s see in the future.

“The team is training with energy, with pace, and now we have to show that in big games.”

Matic is certainly not wrong when discussing the strength of the league but what fans are keen to see is an identifiable way of playing and encouraging performances.

Obviously supporters won’t accept anything less than a top-four finish but they have grown sick of the lack of structure and coaching that saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s reign end.

Rangnick’s short time at the club so far has suggested both of those matters have been or are being dealt with and so it’s easy to see why fans are already impressed and on board with him.

From the outside looking in, it appears as though the players are too and so hopefully the results and performances improve.

De Gea was praised by Rangnick who even publicly labeled the experienced Spaniard as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

That seemed to instantly put off Dean Henderson who now is reportedly keen on a loan move elsewhere in order to secure more minutes.

Nonetheless, United face Newcastle on Monday and must secure the three points in order to continue moving up the table.
