First look: United unveil photos of Ronaldo in home kit

The first photos of Christiano Ronaldo, back in a red shirt, have been unveiled on the Manchester United website.

The images come after one of the most sensational transfers in history took place last Friday, as Ronaldo made the switch from Juventus back to his old club.

The Portuguese international is set to return to the club that has “always had a special place in my heart.”

His second debut will mark his 293rd appearance for the club.

The images show Ronaldo in the 2021/22 home kit but his squad number is yet to be unveiled.

Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to welcome the striker and former teammate back to the club, referring to him as the greatest player of all time in a recent press conference.

“To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person,” said the manager, in the official announcement we published at 9:30 UK time this morning to confirm Ronaldo’s return.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us all” he added.

Ronaldo commented, “history will be written once again.”

He will be hoping to add to the 118 goals he has already scored for the reds and perhaps add to 30 trophies he has won.

As fans await the announcement of his squad number, the new images bring a sense of anticipation and excitement around his arrival in Manchester after the international break.

'Lets himself down': United legend's harsh verdict on United midfield general

United legend Rio Ferdinand has joined fellow pundit and former teammate Roy Keane in criticising United midfielder Fred.

Ferdinand has urged United to use a better defensive midfielder saying Fred ‘lets himself down’ positionally.

The 28 year old has been involved in all three of United’s opening games this season but supporters have frequently questioned his performance.

Ferdinand said “I think they need someone in there who can see the game better, who’s more controlled, who’s more calculated in their positioning and decision-making from a defensive perspective.”

“You haven’t got to fly everywhere at 100mph, but they’re in a position to stop the ball getting into these danger areas – they’re an obstacle.”

Talking on his youtube channel, Ferdinand went on to say, “He gets off the leash, goes and smells trouble and flies out sometimes. That’s not necessarily the best way to play out that situation.”

“You need someone who can orchestrate – not only with the ball, I’m talking without the ball. He can position himself to stop trouble before it comes.”

However, he also praised him for certain qualities, “His attributes physically, to be able to cover the ground and make tackles, are really good.”

Meanwhile, Keane has been harsher on the United man in recent weeks.

During his punditry in the opening few games he said that Fred had ‘few exceptional qualities’.

The Brazilian signed for the club back in 2018 and has made over 70 appearances, netting 3 goals.

'It's all about winning': Man Utd star's comments gives Solskjaer massive boost for the season!

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is happy at the club amid reports of him moving to Paris Saint-Germain this transfer window.

Norwegian outlet TV2 interviewed the Frenchman before United’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Pogba remaining tight-lipped about his future at the club.

He stated: “To be honest, I am very happy, I enjoy myself. The Premier League is back; I play football again after a nice holiday, so it is very, very good.”

“When you get to a final and lose, it is always very painful. Now we are hungry to do better than last season, and we want to win a trophy.

“I’m happy. To be honest, I’m glad I’m feeling good. I’m healthy, have no injuries, and I’m happy, even if I would have preferred to win the last game [against Southampton]. It’s all about winning.”

Pogba has started the season in sublime form, registering five assists in the opening three games.

His link-up with Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood has been a joy to watch.

The World Cup winner spoke about his relationship with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

“To be honest, I have known Ole for a long time, and we have always had a good relationship, and he is good with all the other players as well.”

“He was here as a player, so he knows the club very well. It’s been really good since he came in.” Pogba explained.

“His strength may be that he understands the players because he has been a player himself.”

“He understands the players. He understands when we might need rest, and he knows how to talk to the players. I think that’s his strength.”

Despite countless reports of him leaving the club, Pogba has acted like a model professional and worked hard in training and on the pitch.

He remains one of United’s most important players if they are to mount a challenge for the title.

Romano: United rocked as Spanish giants swoop for brilliant major target

Any dwindling hopes of Manchester United making a late swoop for Eduardo Camavinga have been dashed by news of his transfer to Real Madrid.

Camavinga had entered the final 12 months of his existing Rennes’ deal and had been the centre of multiple, often contradictory, reports about his club future.

The 18-year-old was strongly linked with a move to United over the first few weeks of the window and was seen by many as the ideal long-term solution to United’s troublesome midfield issues.

However, Twitter transfer guru Fabrizio Romano extinguished any slender hopes of a late swoop with the tweet:

‘Eduardo Camavinga to Real Madrid: HERE WE GO! The offer has been accepted tonight by Rennes. €31m plus add-ons. Medical already completed tonight.

Paperworks are signed. Official today. He goes to Real NOW – no loan. Camavinga picks Real over Man Utd and PSG.’

Romano’s latest scoop was later confirmed with Real’s official confirmation of the transfer.

Although it’s not ideal news, it probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s been following the evolving Camavinga story over the summer.

United’s interest was most widely reported in early July, at which stage there appeared to be genuine optimism that a deal could be agreed.

However, the notion that the Reds could pull off a major coup was soon punctured by numerous reports claiming the starlet had his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu.

The wonderkid’s desire to move to Spain seemed to be public knowledge by mid-July, since when links to United have slowly receded.

Despite an eye-catching window that has seen Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo moving to Old Trafford, many onlookers consider the centre of the park to be an equally critical priority.

The news that Camavinga won’t be the player to fill the club’s midfield void will no doubt leave many fans eagerly awaiting updates on other possible targets, as the transfer countdown ticks towards midnight.

Cristiano Ronaldo's heartfelt message leaves Man United fans in tears

Cristiano Ronaldo’s re-signing and return to Manchester United was officially confirmed today by the club, immediately overshadowing rivals Liverpool’s announcement of Jordan Henderson signing a new contract.

The Portuguese phenomenon completed his medical in Lisbon over the weekend, and today, he posted a heartfelt message to United fans on Instagram, where he has over 333 million worldwide followers.

The 36-year-old, 5-time Champions League winner expressed youthful delight at being back at the club where his meteoric rise began, saying:
“I can’t even start to explain my feelings right now, as I see my return to Old Trafford announced worldwide. It’s like a dream come true, after all the times that I went back to play against Man. United, and even as an opponent, to have always felt such love and respect from the supporters in the stands. This is absolutely 100% the stuff that dreams are made of!”

Local rivals Manchester City looked to be in prime position for the signing of Ronaldo last Thursday only for the deal to swing to the Red side of the city dramatically within 24 hours.

The overriding consensus among City fans was that Ronaldo returning to the Premier League would outshine Lionel Messi’s transfer to Ligue 1 and that he would certainly score goals.

Now, however, that will happen with Ronaldo in red.

On Instagram today, Ronaldo went on to underline that the first trophies he won in his career, of which, in total, there are 32, were all with the Red Devils and that there was a ‘special connection’ between him and the club.

Soon after the news broke on Friday that he would snub Man City for United, opposition fans’ praise seemed to quieten while criticism of the move grew louder.

Many began to voice that Ronaldo was too old and that young starlet Mason Greenwood’s progress would be stunted.

However, it is expected that Greenwood, 19, will get plenty of minutes playing from the right, as well as through the middle.

And Ronaldo’s stats are still at the elite level. On Twitter, Statman Dave posted this earlier today:

By returning to Old Trafford, Ronaldo will cement his status as a Manchester United legend, and if he can help the club to its first trophy in four years, further history will, of course, be made.

He finished his message with a promise to United’s global fanbase, saying:
“History has been written in the past and history will be written once again! You have my word!”

The 783-career-goal man, signed off by dedicating the move to his footballing father, Sir Alex Ferguson:
“PS – Sir Alex, this one is for you…”

'A big shame'- Man United fans react to star's confirmed departure

Manchester United fans were thankful to Daniel James and wished him good luck on his new journey as they reacted to the news in regards to his transfer to Leeds United.

The young winger initially almost joined the Yorkshire club but a breakdown in paperwork with Swansea City meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could sign him six months later instead.

James was one of the legendary Norwegian’s first few signings and it’s safe to say he enjoyed some level of success having made 74 appearances since around 2019.

Given how the talented Welshman was largely a squad player, it’s a record he could be proud of and one not many players can say they achieved.

There are more talented players or players of higher stature who failed to reach the same heights at United and fans hoped he would enjoy the rest of his career.

The Red Devils will be especially pleased they managed to turn a profit on James, breaking a cycle of poor sales in the recent past.

It was quite telling in the first place how there were multiple clubs who wanted to secure his signature once it was obvious he was available.

Manchester United have strong depth and options on their flanks so James won’t directly be missed but his attitude and work rate will be.

Going nowhere: Man United stars set to stay and provide attacking depth despite interest

Manchester United stars Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, and Anthony Elanga are reportedly not leaving on deadline day.

The last day of the summer transfer window is notoriously difficult and chaotic, with random names suddenly becoming available or unavailable.

United used the day to announce Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival and it looks as though Daniel James‘ departure to Leeds United is inevitable.

No other major transfers are expected but news quickly broke in regards to Cavani potentially leaving to Barcelona.

West Ham have been keen on Lingard all summer long too but the journalists below have confirmed nothing will happen.

According to The Athletic, Lingard will not be going anywhere as he is determined to fight for his place this season.

It’s understood West Ham United have been keen on his signature but were never all too pleased to cough up the £30m required to sign him.

Other clubs wanted Lingard too but he had no desire to leave as he hopes to prove himself once more at Old Trafford.

Anthony Elanga is also believed to not be on his way out to the Championship despite interest for a loan move.

Cavani staying, in particular, will be a major boost for Manchester United if they hope to challenge for all the silverware available this season.

United to make swoop for number one midfield target as club already line up replacement

Manchester United’s summer business may not be done yet as the club are considering a late swoop for Wolves’ Ruben Neves.

After signing the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo in what has been a superb window so far, United still desperately need a midfielder.

The midfield has been the clear weakness in United’s last two Premier League games, with Fred in particular having a rotten start to the season.

Express Sport have reported that United are still in the market for one more signing with a move for Wolves’ midfield general not ruled out.

While a move is not thought to be imminent with the mood at Old Trafford being pessimistic, if this window has taught us anything it’s to expect the unexpected.

With Dan James’ confirmed move to Leeds for a reported £25 million plus add-ons, it is thought United would need another sale if they were to make any more signings.

And this now seems unlikely after West Ham opted for CSKA Moscow’s 23-year-old attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic instead of following up their interest in Jesse Lingard.

The 24-year-old Neves has been a revelation since signing for Wolves in the summer of 2017 from Porto.

Helping the club win the Championship before establishing themselves as a solid Premier League outfit playing European football.

The Portuguese international has played 179 times and chipped in with 20 goals and 10 assists, forming a firm partnership with fellow Portuguese star Joao Moutinho in the centre of midfield.

Having had a loan bid accepted for Lille’s Renato Sanches, could Wolves already be lining up his replacement if United do make a late surge for his signature?

'Announce treble'- Man United fans react to official Ronaldo announcement

Manchester United fans could not contain their excitement after Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer was made official by the club.

News initially broke on Friday over the move but the transfer wasn’t completed just yet as it was subject to a medical and some paperwork.

Luckily everything went smoothly and United could confidently announce his transfer from Juventus on a two year contract with an option for a third.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted how he will use Ronaldo, insisting he wants the former Real Madrid man in and around the box.

Many expect the world-class talent to be the club’s main and top goalscorer in a season where they’re expected to challenge for the title.

The Peoples Person covered the news yesterday in regards to Ronaldo completing his medical so an official announcement was always going to be quickly made.

Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood can all play in the striker position but it’s likely they’ll all have to make way, one way or the other.

The latter three’s versatility should come in handy as they can make an impact on the flanks instead, where some fans would argue they’re more comfortable anyways.

It’s only Cavani, a true number nine, whose position is perhaps under threat, though there’s no doubt he’ll get plenty of minutes.

The dream is real: Ronaldo has officially rejoined Manchester United!

Manchester United have announced the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

The 36 year old has agreed to a two-year deal until 2023 with an option to extend. The club will pay an initial fee of £12.85m followed by £6.85m in add-ons to Juventus.

United confirmed the deal on their official website on August 27, subject to medical, which has now been completed in Lisbon.

Ronaldo is delighted to join the Red Devils. In his interview, he stated, “Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday.

“I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again. I’m looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, “You run out of words to describe Cristiano. He is not only a marvellous player, but also a great human being. To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us all and his experience will be so vital for the younger players in the squad. Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted he is coming home to where it all started”

The Portuguese will become the highest-paid player in Premier League history as per The Telegraph, earning in excess of £560,000 including bonuses and image rights.

At Juventus, Ronaldo scored a staggering 101 goals in 134 appearances across all competitions. He finished last season as Serie A top scorer with 29 goals.

Ronaldo is an inspiration to many athletes around the globe and is undoubtedly one of the greatest footballers ever to grace the pitch.

His competitive spirit and sheer will to excel in every aspect of his game will significantly benefit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

After completing his medical in Lisbon, the 36 year old will head to his national side to play in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Ronaldo is expected to make his United debut against Newcastle on September 11 at Old Trafford.

Done Deal: United winger completes £25m move to Premier League rivals

Daniel James has completed his move to Leeds United from Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

As reported here just minutes ago, the flying winger has crossed the Pennines in a deal worth £25 million, a figure that will be considered good business by most United fans in the current climate.

Romano has tweeted this morning:

Daniel James deal has been completed between Leeds and Manchester United, done and confirmed. Permanent move, paperworks signed.

‘Everton have never been in the race or hijacking the deal.’

The question remaining for most United fans now is whether the funds raised by the sale will be sufficient for the club to make a last-minute signing.

The defensive midfield area is one that is generally agreed to be lacking, with just Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic as options in that role.

One player linked with a move to Old Trafford in that area has been Rennes’ wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, but reports late last night confirmed that the Frenchman is heading to Real Madrid in a €30m (£25.7m) deal.

Wolves’ Ruben Neves remains the only name on the table unless United have a surprise up their sleeve.

The Portuguese star is said to be available for between £30 and £40 million, but despite showing some interest United have not made any formal bids for the player so far.

It is also unknown whether James will be the last outgoing player in this window.

There is still some speculation over Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Phil Jones‘ futures.

Amad Diallo was set for a loan deal to Feyenoord but an injury sustained in training meant the deal had to be called off.

Diogo Dalot was also close to a move abroad, to Borussia Dortmund, but reports claim that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked the move because he needed cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

Medical imminent: Romano, Sky confirm United are selling £25m star who started vs Wolves

Leeds United and Manchester United have agreed a fee for the transfer of Daniel James, several sources have confirmed.

The flying winger will head across the Pennines in a deal worth £25 million, a figure that will be considered good business by most United fans in the current climate.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal with his famous ‘here we go!’ late last night.

Daniel James to Leeds from Manchester United, done deal now confirmed and here we go!,’ Romano tweeted.

‘The agreement has been completed for €28m with add ons. Personal terms agreed few minutes ago too.

‘Medical tomorrow morning, official announcement soon.’

News of the schedule for the medical was confirmed by Phil Hay of The Athletic:

Dan James preparing to undergo his Leeds United medical this morning. Everything in order,’ Hay tweeted early this morning.

‘Leeds happy with the £25m fee – feel it’s realistic in comparison to fees paid for Willock/Buendia/Abraham etc this summer.’

Sky Sports News have also confirmed the deal, simply saying ‘Leeds United have agreed a £25m fee with Manchester United for winger Daniel James.’

The 23-year-old never fully kicked on from his promising start at Old Trafford, where his blistering pace helped him to score three goals in his first four games in August of 2019.

He only ever went on to add six more goals in the next 70 appearances for the club.

Sensational Varane interview will leave United fans excited for the future

Debutante Raphael Varane breezed effortlessly into action with a classy display at the heart of Manchester United’s 1-0 victory at Wolves yesterday.

The centre-back made telling contributions at both ends, looking assured despite the best efforts of an energetic home side and playing a key role in Mason Greenwood‘s late winner.

The French idol spoke to MUTV after the game and discussed his satisfaction with the three points, a growing understanding with Harry Maguire and early impressions of English football.

“A good feeling (making his debut)!” he said. “I was very, very happy to be here and to help the team get this victory. The feeling is absolutely amazing.

“The Premier League is very intense. The game is very fast and you know when you play this game, you are very concentrated…I came here for that feeling.”

When asked whether the main differences were the atmosphere or intensity, he replied, “Both. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the game is very fast. You have a lot of action during the game.

“You have to be focused and very concentrated because it never stops. It’s attack, attack, counter-attack and it’s very fast.”

Of his growing understanding with Maguire, he revealed, “Very good. He’s a good player. We had good communication, that’s very important, and the same spirit: to fight and win the game.”

Aside from the imperious Varane, United also had David de Gea to thank for the three points. The Spaniard shrugged off lingering doubts about his place in the side with a stunning point blank stop from Roman Saiss late in the game.

The 28-year-old was moved to describe De Gea’s brilliant double save as, “Yeah! Amazing save, he’s a top goalkeeper and today he helped the team.”

The French ace was equally impressed by the frenzied Molineux atmosphere, saying, “Yeah, very good. It was a good atmosphere, and they gave us good help during the game. When it’s hard, we need fans and we have very good support from our fans.”

Predictably, the final words concern his imminent reunion with former Real Madrid teammate and Portugal icon, Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I am very happy. He’s a legend and all players can learn when you play with him. It’s a great help for all players, for all young players, and of course he never stops scoring goals, so he will help the team.”

'Here we go soon': Romano confirms United star is close to Premier League transfer

Daniel James is poised to join Leeds United from Manchester United on a permanent deal.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano posted the news this evening with a ‘here we go soon’ promise.

Daniel James is set to join Leeds United from Manchester United, deal confirmed and here-we-go soon!’, Romano tweeted.

‘Final stages and it’s gonna be completed.

‘James will join Leeds as exclusively reported today morning.’

Romano’s previous report had read:

‘Leeds are in advanced talks to sign Dan James from Manchester United on a permanent deal! Discussions ongoing to complete the agreement. Talks also on personal terms.’

As reported here earlier today, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo has left James further down an already long pecking order.

The fee is expected to be around £20 million plus bonuses.

Whether this will be enough to fund a last-day push for a defensive midfielder remains to be seen.

Most united fans believe that the signing of a holding midfielder is crucial and the only missing link in an otherwise fantastic transfer window.

There could still be other last minute outgoings from old Trafford, with Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones and Anthony Martial among those linked with a move.

Man United's highly-rated academy starlet seals loan move!

Manchester United youngster D’Mani Mellor has sealed a loan move to League Two side Salford City.

The club announced his departure on its official website.

Mellor joined United’s Academy at the age of eight. His only first team appearance came against FC Astana in the UEFA Europa League.

The 20 year old is predominantly a striker but can operate in any position across the front three.

Mellor’s 2020-21 season was derailed with injuries, and he failed to make a consistent impact for the Under 23s team.

Relishing the challenge of playing for Gary Bowyer’s side, Mellor told Salford’s website:

“I can’t wait to get started with Salford City. Having spoken to the manager and his staff, I know this is the perfect place for me to start playing regular senior football.”

“I’ve been at Manchester United since the age of eight, I’ve loved my time in the Academy and learnt so much, but I’m ready now to compete every week in the Football League.”

“Salford is a great club; it is one I know well as a local lad, the fans are passionate, and I’m looking forward to performing for them over the season.”

Bowyer has thanked United for allowing them to take the youngster on loan.

He said: “Firstly, a big thank you to all at Manchester United; this loan once again strengthens the relationship between the two clubs with Di’Shon Bernard having a successful loan here last season.”

“Mellor is an exciting player with an incredible work rate who was very excited to come and join us.”

The 20 year old made his League Two debut last Saturday against Newport County at the Peninsula Stadium.

Man United star prefers to fight for his place amid uncertain future

Manchester United star Dean Henderson reportedly has clubs interested in his signature as the end of the transfer window approaches.

The talented goalkeeper challenged David de Gea to the number one spot all last season and even appeared to have won it at one point.

Henderson’s communication, command in the box, and ability to sweep balls played in behind United’s defence saw him become a fan favourite quickly.

While De Gea is a sensational shot-stopper, many complained he had been in poor form for far too long.

The instability in the goalkeeping department wasn’t ideal but it was important to give both players opportunities to prove their worth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Peoples Person last covered Henderson news when he appeared to be on his way to returning to the first-team following his Covid-19 battle.

The young keeper’s illness meant he couldn’t start the season the way he wanted to and it’s safe to say De Gea is taking advantage.

Solskjaer praised the experienced Spaniard, insisting when he’s in form he’s easily one of the best in the world.

The legendary Norwegian also praised De Gea’s desire to return from his holiday early to ensure the number one spot was his going into the new season.

It looks like there’s been a shift in the former Atletico Madrid man’s attitude and he’s hungrier than ever before.

Now that Henderson appears to be staying, he’ll have to rise to De Gea’s challenge once more and fight for his place in the first-team.

Spoilt for choice: Star player's availablity gives Solskjaer selection headache!

Manchester United have received a huge boost, with striker Edinson Cavani set to remain at the club during the international break.

The Uruguayan has had his call-up to the national side cancelled, making him available for the four matches he would have likely missed.

Last week, the Premier League announced that all clubs had unanimously agreed not to send their players on international duty if the matches were to be played in the UK’s ‘red listed’ countries.

The players who decided to go would have been forced to quarantine for ten days upon their arrival to England.

Cavani voiced his displeasure over the above decision on his Instagram account.

The 34-year-old was named a part of the Uruguay squad and was set to miss two Premier League games, a Carabao Cup tie, and United’s Champions League opener.

However, early this morning Uruguay released an official statement exempting Cavani from traveling for the World Cup Qualifiers:

‘According to the situation that has occurred for players from England, the Uruguayan Football Association has decided to cancel the call up for Edinson Cavani.’

The news of Cavani’s availability will be a massive boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had previously criticised the situation, which led to the possibility of the striker having to quarantine.

He told reporters last week: “It’s a fact that if you have to have ten days in a hotel quarantining with no chance to train, no chance to keep your fitness up, then you’ll need another 10-14 days to get back up to fitness again – and then you’ve got to fly again.

“It’s an impossible situation for the clubs, and it’s an impossible situation for the players. We understand that there are rules and broader issues here; that’s why we have to follow the rules.”

With the impending arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Solskjaer is now spoilt for choices upfront.

After United’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Norwegian was asked about the Portuguese, to which he replied: “He’s not signed to sit on the bench. He will make us a better team.”

It will be fascinating to see how Solskjaer manages the two players- both vital to United’s prospects this season.

Man United squad could give Solskjaer selection headache with rare opportunity

Manchester United are planning a rare opportunity for squad players as the club organises a behind-closed-doors friendly over the international break.

It has been a difficult start to the season for the majority of the regular starters this time around because of quarantine issues upon return from holidays.

Man United have already organised a behind-closed-doors friendly after the season started with the club hosting Burnley after the Leeds match to try and help players, who had only just returned, build their fitness back up.

Not only this but some players were also given an extended break, for example, Edinson Cavani who was off for personal reasons and had to quarantine upon return to England, meaning he missed the start of the season due to lack of match fitness.

It is also a good chance for the players who are returning from injuries over the past couple of months. This means Phil Jones is likely to get some minutes under his belt after being out for over a year and a half.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke to the media on the official Manchester United website where he brought up the idea of another behind-closed-doors friendly.

“There might be a behind-closed-doors game again.

“It’s time to give them some time off as well, the ones who don’t go on internationals, because most of them have done the whole pre-season, so they’ve been working diligently and have been terrific.

“Some of them, when you’re an international, then it means you’re playing well. The ones who don’t have internationals will get the break and they deserve a few days off definitely, then we go again on the Monday.

“We’ll have the start of the week training then give them a long weekend off.”

This upcoming friendly will include players who cannot travel to their country because of the quarantine issues such as Cavani and Fred.

It will also be a good chance for players who are yet to appear this season to impress Solskjaer such as Tom Heaton who arrived at the club this summer following Sergio Romero’s departure.

Donny van de Beek, as well as Eric Bailly, will be able to take part as well and they are both yet to feature for the club.

United fans won’t be able to watch the friendly but will be eager to find out which way the result goes considering some regular starters will be trying to impress.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Man United winger in advanced talks to leave

Manchester United are reportedly set to move Daniel James on to Leeds United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Welsh winger joined from Swansea City a couple of years ago but has been one of the players often criticised at the club.

Some fans feel James doesn’t add much to the squad and is used too often in the starting XI by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The young attacker initially kicked off his United career in stunning style, netting multiple goals and grabbing several assists.

However, he soon burnt out and has failed to recover since, and it looks like it’s something that will cost him his career at Old Trafford.

The Peoples Person covered, only earlier today, reports that had claimed the Red Devils were open to moving James on, given the expected arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The hard-working flank man had a brilliant time with his nation during the summer, making an impact for Wales in the Euros.

Some fans were keen to see him kick on and enjoy himself in the same way for Manchester United.

Unfortunately that hasn’t quite been the case and it looks like he’s now one of the expendable players.

James was one of Solskjaer’s first few signings and so it’s likely the legendary Norwegian will be a little sad over having to move him on.

The former striker has always valued the pacy winger, choosing to play him in big games, knowing he could trust the player’s work rate to protect the team.

Man United star told where his international future lies

Despite missing out on the England squad for the September internationals, Mason Greenwood is very much in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts.

The 19-year-old has notched three goals in as many games so far this season, earning Manchester United four points on his own.

Southgate largely stayed loyal to the players who reached the Euro 2020 final with the only new faces being the return of the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jesse Lingard, and a first call up for Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford.

There is a chance Greenwood could switch allegiances to Jamaica due to the fact he is under 21 and played less than three senior competitive matches for England.

On this issue Southgate had the following to say:

“Normally, I don’t get involved in the under-21s but he’s beyond that, I want to take a little bit more control of his development internationally.

“The dual nationality is a bit of a red herring. He 100% wants to play for England and there is no suggestion there is anything else there.”

The England manager believes this current crop of young stars coming through need more experience if they want to go one step further in tournament football.

“We’ve got some very exciting attacking players, many of whom aren’t yet the finished article.”

The academy graduate has one cap for his nation so far, coming on as a 78th minute substitute in a 1-0 win over Iceland in the Nations League in 2020.

He was then removed from the very next squad along with Manchester City’s Phil Foden for breaking Covid-19 guidelines and has not made a squad since.

Greenwood was named in the provisional 33-man squad for the European Championships this summer but was forced to withdraw with an underlying injury.

Medical completed: Man United set to complete major transfer deal pending visa process

Manchester United on Friday announced the second arrival of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo pending medical checks and agreement on personal terms.

The fan favourite Portuguese forward is set for a second spell at Man United following his departure to Real Madrid in 2009 for a fee of £12.87m with a further £6.86m in add-ons according to Sky Sports.

In a bid to stop local rivals Manchester City from landing the player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the board were quick to react and got the deal over the line with Juventus in a matter of hours.

Looking back on a challenging 24 hours for United fans who could’ve seen their legend betray the club for City, the outcome was the best that could’ve happened.

According to Dharmesh Sheth, who is a Sky Sports reporter, Ronaldo has completed his medical over the weekend ahead of a transfer from Juventus.

The 36-year-old has now agreed on personal terms with the player signing a two-year contract with the option of a further year.

The final remaining aspects of the deal will be sorted out before the deadline day, which is tomorrow.

The visa process which will allow Ronaldo to work in the country is still ongoing but that is a natural process that will end before the end of tomorrow.

The forward is now in Portugal ready to meet up with his international teammates as he awaits instructions from his international camp.

Portugal are set to play three times over the international break with United fans having a chance to see him feature for his country.

United play Newcastle after the international break with Solskjaer hoping he will be in perfect condition for that match.

Ronaldo famously completed a hat-trick against the Magpies during the 2007/08 season and will certainly be hoping he can reinvent that goal-scoring season this year.

Total collapse: Man United fans will be unhappy with failed loan for wonder-kid

Manchester United star Amad Diallo‘s move to Feyenoord has reportedly collapsed in what is a disappointing development for those who wanted to see him get regular minutes.

The talented winger was put on the loan list as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoped a temporary move could see him get even better.

Amad was said to be wanted by the likes of Sheffield United and Crystal Palace but Feyenoord emerged out of the blue as favourites.

Solskjaer stressed the club had to be the right club for any loan deal to happen, insisting minutes and culture mattered more than things like what division or country the former Atalanta man was going to.

Unfortunately, the loan to Feyenoord fell apart in the dying moments thanks to Amad suffering an injury in a training session.

According to AD via Goal, Feyenoord technical director Frank Arnesen said: “He got injured, it’s cancelled. Too bad, everything was done.

“I’ve talked a lot with the people at Manchester United, but it’s more sensible to let him recover at that club.

“It may be a while before he comes back.”

The Peoples Person covered Solskjaer’s comments in the past when he seemed to be quite sure Amad was going out on loan, admitting excitement over the deal.

A muscle injury suggests the young Ivorian will be out for some time and it’s safe to say he’s better off recovering with the staff at Carrington instead of abroad.

The Red Devils’ signing of Cristiano Ronaldo has meant a few fringe players’ positions are at risk at the minute and so it’s unlikely Amad will play much even when he does return to full fitness.

United desperate for last-minute sale of struggling forward - The Athletic

Manchester United are open to offers for flying winger Dan James in this transfer window, according to reliable sources.

James has never really kicked on after the early promise he showed two years ago when he was signed from Swansea City and with Cristiano Ronaldo set to join the club, his chance of playing time will become more limited.

And The Athletic claims that United have made the decision to either loan out or sell James with just under two days of the transfer window remaining.

‘The Athletic understands that a number of Premier League teams have been made aware that United are open to approaches.

‘Leeds previously came within a whisker of signing James from Swansea in January 2019, when the player had completed a medical only for the deal to fall through on deadline. It is believed that Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa remains an admirer of the Welsh winger and would like his club to sign James before Tuesday night’s deadline.

‘Leeds are open to a loan move or even a permanent deal for James, who is valued in excess of £20 million by United.

‘They have been restrained in their spending this summer, only spending significantly on Junior Firpo but it is understood funds are available to secure a long-term target in James.’

There are, according to the report, a number of other clubs interested, including Brighton, Everton, Leicester and Crystal Palace.

The Reds were already overstocked in forward players before Ronaldo’s arrival so it now seems inevitable that James, Jesse Lingard or even Anthony Martial could move on. The issue now is the ticking clock and whether a permanent move could be found.

That in turn could determine whether United could make a last-minute move for a defensive midfielder.

The Athletic notes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in yesterday’s post-match press conference ‘There has been a couple of enquiries for some of our players. With the signing of Cristiano we might give less playing time to a few. Dan is a Man United player at the moment.’

That would seem to be a clear hint that the door is very much open for the Welshman with the club potentially giving him a gentle push through it.

Secret meeting: Jesse Lingard at the centre of huge transfer intrigue - report

Jesse Lingard may still go to West Ham before tomorrow’s transfer deadline despite the Hammers being close to signing another attacker, Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow.

According to various reports, David Moyes has been keen to sign Lingard but was unable to meet United’s £25-£30 million asking price.

And yet, curiously, the deal for Vlasic is reported to be £25 million and the Hammers have also just signed Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma for £29.8 million.

This initially led reporters to assume that the issue was never really about the Hammers’ budget but that Lingard had been made unavailable by United, forcing the London club into a change of plans.

But with the impending arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford, the England man will inevitably slip further down the pecking order and so it seems strange that United would have taken him off the transfer table.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday evening that ‘West Ham official bid for Nikola Vlasic has been submitted: €30m plus €8m add ons proposed to CSKA Moscow in order to complete the deal. Talks progressing.

Jesse Lingard negotiations with Man Utd are currently stalling, as @jacobsteinberg
reported.’

But later yesterday evening, other reports were circulating that ‘David Moyes will meet Jesse Lingard this evening. The topic of conversation is unknown, but there is a scenario where Lingard returns on loan to West Ham possibly after signing a new contract with Manchester United. [Claret and Hugh]’

The situation is confusing to say the least. As was evidenced again yesterday, the Red Devils are desperately in need of a defensive midfielder before the window closes, needing to sell before they can buy, and are desperately over-stocked in Lingard’s position.

Another loan deal would not be ideal for United.

The most likely conclusion is that the player himself has chosen to stay at United, but another possibility is that the 28-year-old may be poised to move to another club, with Everton also reported to be interested.

Match report: Wolves 0-1 United: Luxury Ronaldo signing won't solve United's biggest problem

One of the best things about Friday’s wave of Ronaldo-mania was the way it wiped away any lingering memories of the previous weekend’s turgid draw with Southampton.

Woosh! Images of Maguire and Fred slowly passing themselves into a coma before cheaply losing the ball (again) – Begone!

It’s difficult to imagine many fans sat through that lumpy, lamentable chore and thought the sole missing ingredient was a luxury No.9.

More noticeable was the disconnect between defence and attack and the manner in which the current side manages the improbable feat of being wide open, easily bypassed and creatively impotent all at the same time.

This is a United side that too often borders on dysfunctional and the dysfunction starts and ends in the middle of the park.

And so, to today’s match against Wolves at Molineux, as the post-Ronaldo, post-midfield United served up another illustration of the same torturous flaws, only this time with a happier outcome.

Firstly, the good news. The win ensured that the Red Devils broke the record for the most away games undefeated – 28 games and counting – which is a fine achievement for Solskjaer’s group.

Secondly, the impressive Mason Greenwood kept up his scoring streak with the late winner – his third in three games – firing a low shot from a tight angle that squirmed through Wolves’ keeper Jose Sa.

Furthermore, the assist came from excellent debutante Raphael Varane, who eased his way into English football with a display of impeccable finesse.

Such was the incongruity of seeing the elegant Frenchman dealing stoically with the bedlam around him that he often resembled a Rolls Royce parked next to a dumpster fire.

However, the late, lucky goal will need to cover a multitude of sins for Solskjaer’s side, who looked every bit as disjointed and incoherent in victory as they did during last week’s laboured draw on the south coast.

The Norwegian appeared to have selected a side packed with the quality and firepower to blow Wolves away. With such attacking luminaries as Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Daniel James and Greenwood gracing the pitch, it seemed reasonable to expect an attacking feast.

On the contrary, with United’s midfield pairing of Fred and Pogba being repeatedly overrun and exposed, they were soon unnerved by Wolves’ energy and verve and struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Nobody exemplified this better than the irresistible Adama Traore, who barrelled his way through the paper-thin United ranks seemingly at will.

In fact, watching the visitors clinging desperately to Traore’s coattails gave the impression of a throng of Yorkshire Terriers trying vainly to slow down a rhinoceros in roller blades.

And yet, for all Wolves hustle and bustle, they were undone by their ongoing failure to take their chances. Trincao had a golden first-half chance cleared off the line by Wan Bissaka and spoiled an otherwise bright display by scuffing a good chance wide in the second half.

Led by the imposing physicality of Traore, the home side remained a constant threat and limited the visitors to half chances – at least until Greenwood’s 79th minute intervention turned the game decisively in United’s favour.

Undeterred, Wolves still came forward and they would have pinched a deserved equaliser, but for David de Gea pulling off a pair of stunning point blank saves from Roman Sais.

Ultimately, Solskjaer will see the victory as validation of a job well done, a final gruelling battle before a certain Portuguese recruit comes swaggering over the horizon to add an extra layer of glitz.

However, if you look past the decadence, there’s a black hole at the centre of his side that, if unresolved, will threaten to suck the rest of the side’s potential into it.

Glaring hole remains despite win- Three things we learnt from United’s win at Wolves

It wasn’t a vintage performance but Manchester United secured all three points in a tough fought 1-0 win against Wolves at Molineux.

It was United’s number 11, Mason Greenwood, who proved to be the difference yet again, grabbing his third goal in as many games.

The win sees United go third with seven points heading into the September international break, while Wolves can count themselves unlucky to not have a point on the board yet after three positive performances.

Here’s three things we learnt from today’s game:

Mason Greenwood must continue to play

After announcing the return of United legend Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this week, fans up and down the country have been giddy with excitement at the prospect of the prodigal son returning to Old Trafford.

No longer the flying winger who mesmerised the Premier League 12 years ago, CR7 now operates as more of an orthodox striker, the position he’ll play for United.

But one thing this signing cannot do is stunt the growth of Mason Greenwood who is in explosive form this campaign.

Becoming just the second teenager to score in each of the first three games of a Premier League season, Greenwood now has the chance to learn from the greatest goal scorer of all time, but he must continue to get minutes.

Fans must be patient with Jadon Sancho

Before the signing of Ronaldo, United’s most exciting transfer of the window was Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Featuring in all three of United’s games thus far, the winger hasn’t yet exploded into life in Manchester and inevitably needs some time to adapt to English football.

Given just a four out of ten for his 70 minutes against Wolves by the Manchester Evening News, it is imperative fans don’t get on his back as the 21-year-old settles into life in the Premier League.

The £73 million transfer fee brings with it huge expectations, but the England international has undoubted quality and will be a huge player for the club for years to come.

Midfield still a glaring hole

It has been spoken about all summer but today was another example of United’s lack of depth and overall quality in the centre of midfield.

Fred had another disastrous performance in the middle of the park and Pogba wasn’t as effective as part of the two-man pivot.

While they still managed to break the Premier League record with a 28th consecutive away game without defeat, in the first half the midfield threatened to cost them as the ball was turned over sloppily and Wolves attacked with pace.

United now look world class both in defence and in attack, but without a proper number six it’s very hard to see them really challenging for the top honours.

Match-winner: Man United star carrying the team on his back after Wolves win

Manchester United star Mason Greenwood was the main man for his side once again in the narrow win over Wolves.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side struggled against their fiery opponents and looked to be set for a shocking defeat.

The home team were all over United and did not shirk from challenging for any ball, regardless of the pressure or the area on the pitch.

Solskjaer’s men were sloppy, disjointed, and desperately needed a moment of magic to bail them out from what was a disappointing display.

Luckily for them, Greenwood provided that magic, netting a fantastic effort towards the end of the match to help his team to a 1-0 victory.

The stats show Greenwood’s performance was not a stroke of luck and that he’s been in this kind of form for a while.

Manchester United will be glad, in some ways, that he wasn’t called up to the England squad for the upcoming international break.

This way, Greenwood can be protected and kept fresh for the next round of fixtures, and based on his current form, his teammates will need him.

Solskjaer will be hoping he won’t have to rely just on his academy graduate for goals but the impending arrival of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo suggests that he won’t need to.
