No excuses: United handed huge advantage for next European assault

Despite missing out on the top seeding thanks to the Europa League final loss against Villarreal, Manchester United are set for a favourable Champions League group next term.

United found themselves in the Europa League this season after failing to get past the group stages of the tier-one competition.

However, not winning the Europa League may just have helped United next season as it means they missed out on reaching pot one of the Champions League.

Of the teams that are in pot one, Manchester City and Chelsea are in there after winning the Premier League and the UCL itself. Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Atlético Madrid, Villarreal, Lille and Sporting Lisbon are the other teams present in that group.

The Red Devils and Liverpool find themselves in pot two due to their UEFA coefficient ranking over the last five years.

Also in pot two are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Paris Saint Germain, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, which represents, on paper at least, a harder group (excluding the English teams) than those in Pot one.

English clubs cannot be drawn together in the same group, meaning Chelsea and Man City cannot be drawn against United or Liverpool.

Other than Bayern, United would probably be glad to take anyone else, although Ajax and RB Leipzig are in pot three and the Red Devils or Liverpool could face them in their respective groups come the autumn.

Pot four so far has AC Milan, who United faced in this seasons Europa League. They are back in the Champions League for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Overall, this is looking very favourable for United unless they get Bayern Munich, who won this competition last season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men will be desperate to progress beyond the group stages after this season’s disappointment.

The Red Devils led the group after two games, beating PSG away and RB Leipzig 5-0 at Old Trafford. But they then went on to lose three of the last four ties and were ousted from the competition.

Summer window update: The latest on Man United's exciting transfer targets

Manchester United fans have reportedly been given an update in regards to the club’s pursuits of Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho, Declan Rice and Raphael Varane.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has never really had any problems in regards to identifying talent as fans often agree with his choices.

However, United have often failed to deliver for the legendary Norwegian as they have for his predecessors.

Despite that, supporters’ demands remain high and they recognise Solskjaer needs the aforementioned players to improve the current squad and take the next step.

Dealing with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund won’t be easy but it is expected of those at Old Trafford.

According to Manchester Evening News, Madrid are prepared to sell Varane rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

Sancho has also had his asking price cut by Dortmund from £108m last summer to £80m this summer.

Rice will be more expensive given how he’s developed over this past season and how he has more clubs chasing his signature such as Chelsea and Manchester City.

MEN also claim Solskjaer has refused to rule out a move for a striker as Kane looks to leave Spurs this window.

The Peoples Person covered how fans called on Paul Pogba to work his magic on convincing his international teammate Varane to join the club.

Time will tell if this will be a successful summer for Solskjaer and the Red Devils or not but there aren’t many who are hopeful.

After all, last year’s window was a true struggle and it’s difficult to see how things will be different this time around.

Latest on loans: Man United identify four exciting youngsters to develop

Manchester United are kicking off their development plans for next season early after identifying the youngsters in their academy that they want to send on loan.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has maintained the club’s proud tradition of handing debuts to prospects who can potentially become first-team stars.

In fact, it’s one of the things his critics can’t attack him with and is perhaps one of the strengths fans are standing by him for.

United’s academy had slowed down in recent years but Solskjaer has made use of a decision to reinvigorate it of late.

Supporters always get excited when seeing one of their own step onto the pitch for the first time but they’ve also been happy with how the club’s loan department seems to be working better of late.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils prefer keeping their U23s squad small and sending youngsters aged 19 or above on loan to feature regularly in men’s football.

This has led to the staff identifying Ethan Galbraith, Dylan Levitt, Matej Kovar and Di’Shon Bernard as the players who need a loan move next season.

The Peoples Person also covered how a host of youngsters were set to leave this summer so it’s a positive to see how others will be developed instead of being let go.

Galbraith and Levitt are both midfielders who would probably look at the options in the first-team and feel they can potentially breakthrough if they get the next season’s loan spells correct.

Kovar could give the incoming Tom Heaton a run for his money as the backup goalkeeper for Manchester United and potentially, if he improves enough, a future number one.

Bernard will also feel there’s room in the first team’s centre-back positions to steal a spot if he can prove his worth away in the next campaign.

All in all, none of these players would have truly gained anything had they stayed in the youth teams so fans will be hoping they can be given good quality loans to develop their careers further.

United transfer plans decided: Big name 'auction' abandoned - report

Manchester United’s transfer committee has decided against becoming embroiled in a Harry Kane ‘auction’ this summer.

Reports indicate that weekend talks between United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Director of Football John Murtough concluded instead with a renewed focus on landing long-term Borussia Dortmund target Jadon Sancho.

Solskjaer is said to be content with Edinson Cavani as a high-grade stopgap and believes that the addition of Sancho would provide enough attacking options for his side to become title contenders.

Sancho has been a target for at least 18 months and is widely seen as being attainable this summer.

With just two years on his contract, and football finances affected by the pandemic, his long-touted arrival is now viewed as a real possibility.

Although the United boss would welcome a player of Kane’s undoubted calibre, the rumoured fee of at least £120m would be prohibitive, especially with other parts of the side desperately in need of work.

Solskjaer would prefer to wait until next summer for Sancho’s Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland, with a cut-price release fee of just £65m coming into effect.

The United boss is known to have a good relationship with his former protege and will hope that their mutual admiration sways the in-demand hotshot towards Old Trafford.

With Real Madrid among the clubs expected to challenge for the striker’s signature, United will need to establish themselves as a genuine force over the coming season.

Should Sancho arrive – and propel his new club to major honours – the lure of becoming the final piece in the United jigsaw might seriously appeal to the young Norwegian.

Although it’s a long way from coming to fruition, the prospect of Haaland and Sancho renewing their blossoming relationship at Old Trafford is hugely enticing.

The two have linked up to devastating effect in the Bundesliga, establishing themselves as two of Europe’s hottest properties in the process.

Times up?: The Man United star set for showdown talks with Solskjaer

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek will soon find out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s plans for his future, according to reports.

The young Dutchman has struggled to establish himself as a regular starting XI player in his first season in English football.

Van de Beek was essentially United’s main summer signing last year, at least if numbers are anything to go by as he was brought in for £39.60m according to Transfermarkt.

Edinson Cavani is the only summer signing who can hold his head up high but even he took a while to get his career going.

The former Ajax man has played around 1500 minutes across all competitions which is dwarfed by Bruno Fernandes‘ 4500 minutes of football.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils’ staff feel Van de Beek needs to improve more before he can be a first-team regular.

It’s understood he’s set for showdown talks with Solskjaer as well, in order to know what the plans are for him in the 2021/22 season.

The Peoples Person last covered news on Van de Beek when it looked as though Jose Mourinho was keen on signing him for Roma, though it’s safe to say that rumour died out pretty quickly.

It’s clear something needs to change for the versatile midfielder, whether it’s Manchester United changing their attitude to him or him deciding he doesn’t want to stick around on the bench.

Van de Beek is clearly a talented footballer and it could just be a case of him needing the season to adapt.

However, there were many instances in United’s season that felt like bringing him on or even starting him would be the right thing to do but Solskjaer had opted not to.

Van de Beek, from the outside looking in, seems to be a player who was brought in just in case Paul Pogba left rather than someone who would have the team built around him.

Exclusive: 'We're just beginning', threatens anti-Glazer campaign leader

A protest movement targeting Manchester United’s commercial partners, #NotAPennyMore, has grown into a major headache for the club’s controlling shareholders, the Glazer family, in recent weeks.

United fans’ disgust with the ownership is at an all-time high after it emerged that they had tried to take the club out of UEFA and into a closed shop private European league, the so-called European Super League, with eleven other clubs.

The coup failed, but events have made fans even more determined to oust the Glazers from United. Protests before the Premier League match against Liverpool on May 2nd saw the game postponed due to safety concerns.

But many fans recognise that protests alone will not be enough to remove the American tycoons from the club and although match-going and merchandising boycotts have been called for, they have been ineffective because there are too many fans who will still buy tickets and t-shirts even when the majority are boycotting.

The problem gave rise to a brilliant new initiative, the #NotAPennyMore movement, which aims to hit the Glazers where it hurts – at a corporate level.

In an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person, one of the organisers of the campaign, ‘J’, explained how it works.

‘The Glazers use the club’s commercial revenue for debt servicing and to pay themselves dividends. Sponsors are only too happy to use the fanbase to access lucrative commercial markets,’ he said.

‘The last thing they care about is the club or its supporters.

‘The simple idea behind the boycott is that those that enable the Glazer stewardship and perpetuate the club’s decline are just as complicit as the owners. Our aim is to engage in an active boycott to hurt the sponsors’ reputation and cause financial harm until they dissociate themselves with the Glazer family, thus weakening the Glazers’ hold over the club.

‘As the ‘United brand’ becomes more toxic the commercial revenue will begin to dry up and cause a cascade, thus hastening the owners’ removal.’

‘J’ said the response to the campaign has been incredible.

‘We think a lot of the support always felt that the best way to remove the Glazer family was through hurting their wallets, because we knew that the reason they remained owners was because the club was viewed as a cashcow, so there’s always been a small boycott movement over the years growing steadily.

‘With the fallout from the attempted ESL breakaway, the mainstream support have finally realised the Glazer family have engorged on the club for far too long.

‘We’ve been amazed with the response we’ve had announcing a commercial boycott, but we’re just beginning.

‘Our aim is clear: the Glazer family must leave the club. Until then, sponsors will pay.’

The organisers of the movement have chosen to remain anonymous and ‘J’ explained to us why this decision was made.

‘First and foremost the Boycott Movement Against the Glazers is a broad church. The bunch of us that know each other on here when we began campaigning against owners some years ago are a cross section of the United support with various personal opinions, everything from the manager and players, to recruitment and tactics.

‘Our views are as diverse as our fanbase, however we are all united under a single aim. Because of this, we try to keep individuals out of the Movement. In an already febrile and factional fanbase, we have personal opinions just like any Red, but can often be seen as polarising.

‘We are trying to build a broad coalition, the last thing we want is to be dragged into infighting that hurts no-one but the fanbase, and lets the Glazers off the hook.

‘After all, while we were at each other’s throats the Glazer family were secretly plotting to destroy English football. We need to be united, so the Movement is about creating unity over division.’

It was reported that the Hut Group recently pulled out of a corporate deal with United due to concerns of negative publicity. We asked ‘J’ whether he was surprised how quickly #NotAPennyMore got this fantastic result.

‘Initially we were surprised because the news came out of nowhere late on a Saturday night. Upon reflection it was less of a shock. Reds came together in an unprecedented way in the weeks before at Old Trafford to protest, and online to boycott.

‘When the Manchester United fan base unites there’s nothing that can stop us. That’s our power.

‘We should say we are naturally delighted by the immediate success, but we’re not resting on our laurels. One swallow does not make a summer, and there are plenty of swallows to come. We’re sure we will all pat ourselves on the back once more sponsors choose to leave or not renew. Until then we are energised and motivated to reach out to more Reds and hit more sponsors.

‘The Boycott Movement is only as strong as those that actively support it.’

United have a number of commercial partners and some of them are huge corporations, but that initial success has convinced ‘J’ that the campaign is moving in the right direction and that many more successes will follow.

‘There are some big challenging commercial partners but we are not daunted,’ he said.

‘Our aim is to hurt every one of them.

‘Clearly some are more vulnerable than others – we focus on using guerrilla tactics that disrupt the sponsors as much as possible, and each sponsor has their own level of tolerance to such levels of disruption.

‘J’ thinks that it may not even take another sponsor leaving to push the Glazers out if the pressure from the remaining partners becomes too great.

‘It’s possible that no sponsors leave but we hurt them enough to put unbearable pressure on the Glazer family to take steps to sell; or, it could be that a handful of partners leave the club, causing a collective loss in faith in the Glazers from remaining stakeholders.

‘How the end will come exactly for them we don’t know for sure, but we’re excited to find out. We’ve had successes already, so we want to see how far this Movement can continue to push this open door.’

We asked ‘J’ whether #NotAPennyMore would be fundraising to help the campaign to grow.

‘We have no plans at the moment to start a fundraising campaign. We are a bottom-up, grassroots organisation, but right now we want to show the power that lies in every single Red to make an impact without the need for fundraising.

‘We have the biggest fanbase in the world – it’s what Ed Woodward routinely uses to woo potential partners.

‘We want to turn our strength into their weakness. If we mobilise and come together we can end the ownership through our collective actions.

‘And what better story is there to tell? Greedy cartel family that used a historic football club to engorge itself is thrown out by supporters without a penny (well, almost!).

‘Besides, we don’t feel comfortable fundraising while we prefer to keep ourselves anonymous. If we do fundraise we want supporters to trust us by knowing us.’

So how can fans contribute?

‘The best way to contribute to the campaign is to be active in the campaign. We are a boycotting organisation but an active one. That means rather than just avoiding commercial partners’ products we seek to hurt them too.

Fans can get involved on campaigns and initiatives online. Simply follow the official account on twitter -@BoycottGlazers- for regular updates and campaign initiatives.

‘You can still help out while not being tech savvy! If you are online you can still play a valuable role within the Movement. All you have to do is DM the official account for further information.

‘For example, supporters can get together with other likeminded Reds and protest outside sponsors’ properties. There will hopefully be plans underway to protest outside sponsors’ stores in and around Manchester, so we ask interested supporters to keep an eye out on Twitter.

‘Any publicity against the sponsors – online or outdoors- is good publicity for us. The more supporters we can get playing a hands-on role the more successful we will be in accelerating the removal of the Glazer family from our club.

‘United front, collective effort, and proactive disruption are the three pillars that will determine how successful we will be – whether the Glazers will stay for another 16 years, or 16 months.’

‘ It doesn’t matter if you are a ‘Top Red’, a ‘LUHG’, a season ticket holder or someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to watch a game at Old Trafford. The only preconditions required are that you believe the Glazers must leave, and that an active boycott of sponsors is a legitimate and necessary strategy to deploy. If the answer to both is yes, we will work with anyone to save our club.’

Finally, we asked ‘J’ what is in the pipeline and what we should expect to see from the #NotAPennyMore movement.

‘We have plenty of ideas going forward. But I am sure you can understand we are keeping tight-lipped.

‘We rely on catching the club and sponsors off guard.

‘We are keenly aware the club tries to pre-empt any negative news. Historically, when the club sensed something contrary to their interests was developing, they often deployed transfer rumour stories as a strategic weapon to distract and deflect from negative news.

‘Just a few weeks ago as the pressure increased on the Glazer family we had no less than 12 news stories about transfers in the press in 3 days!’

Man United given major boost in pursuit for sensational French winger

Manchester United has been tracking Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé for a few months now and two arrivals at the Catalonia club could provide a major boost for the Red Devils according to The Express.

Barcelona are set to revamp their attack during the summer transfer window with the inclusion of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and former Red Memphis Depay and this could provide a major transfer boost for Man United.

Ronald Koeman has now confirmed he is staying on as manager at the Blaugrana for the next season as he gets ready to launch a very busy summer.

This could see the exclusion of winger Dembélé as Manchester United finally sweep in for a deal after tracking him for many summers.

The Express claims that Antoine Griezmann and Dembélé have been linked with moves away from the club this summer after a disappointing end to the season.

Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cezero has hinted that the club would be interested in bringing the Frenchman back in a possible swap deal with Joao Felix.

However, Barca are not interested in bringing any more forwards to the club after striking deals with two already, leaving Griezmann as potentially available on the open market.

United fans may remember Griezmann was linked to the club back when he was with Atlético Madrid but instead, decided to join Barcelona where he remains today. However, his age, pricepoint and United’s embarrassment of riches in the number 10 position would mean the Red Devils are unlikely to go back in for him this time.

Dembélé, who is valued at £45m, is the obvious option to go for as he looks set to remain out of Koeman’s plans after an injury-hit and inconsistent spell at the Camp Neu.

Contract extensions have stalled and as he is not a high priority for the manager and with 12 months left on his current deal, Barcelona could well look to sell him this summer.

Premier League club Arsenal have been linked with Dembélé in the past but could struggle to attract him this time as they cannot offer European football.

Given that Dembélé seems to be over his injury problems and that he is still only 24 years of age, his signing could represent an excellent deal for United, especially if a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho fails to materialise.

'Agent Pogba': Man United star takes a photo with major transfer target

Manchester United have been looking for a new centre-back for some months now and may just want Paul Pogba to convince Raphael Varane to join according to the Manchester Evening News.

With rumours coming out that Man United are set for a very busy summer in terms of incomings and outgoings, Varane has been linked with the Old Trafford club for many months and reportedly remains the clear favourite for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to the MEN,  Varane was asked about his future this week and the defender responded:

‘This is not the time to talk about my future, I am focused on the selection, on this Euro, it is normal and logical to ask the question and for my part it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines.’

But ‘Agent Pogba’, as he has affectionately become known to fans, has now been seen taking a picture with the Real Madrid man as the two link up for the upcoming delayed European Championships.

Just a few days ago, The Peoples Person reported that Pogba was looking for a new house around Manchester. This has given rise to speculation that he could be about to commit his future to the club and United fans on social media want to believe that the photo is evidence that he is trying to lure his friend and compatriot to join him:

Of course, a photo between two international teammates can’t be taken as any kind of indication that a transfer is about to take place. It is good nonetheless to see them laughing together and we can certainly hope that we see them both in red next season!

Solskjaer and Glazer both want Cristiano Ronaldo at Man United - The Athletic

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United is a genuine possibility, according to The Athletic.

There has been a lot of speculation that CR7 wants to move from Italy although the Old Lady’s last minute qualification for the Champions League removes one barrier to his staying.

Despite that, Ronaldo posted what appeared to be some sort of goodbye message on Instagram recently, saying ‘With these achievements, I reached a goal that I set myself since the first day I arrived in Italy.’

And The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell believes that if he does go, United are one of the most likely destinations.

‘The commercial appeal to co-chairman Joel Glazer is obvious, while there is genuine football merit to recruiting a player who has won so much and maintains such professionalism,’ Whitwell says.

‘Even though he’ll turn 37 next season, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would entertain signing Ronaldo.

‘Privately, Solskjaer ranks Ronaldo, a United team-mate from 2003-07, as the best he has played with, slightly edging Paul Scholes when judging the entirety of their careers.

‘Solskjaer is still in touch with Ronaldo, after tapping into his expertise before pressing ahead to sign his Portugal team-mate Bruno Fernandes in January last year.

‘United also have the financial scope to absorb Ronaldo’s salary demands.

‘There is a theory his price could be lowered because Juventus need to balance the books and removing his enormous wages would alleviate pressure.’

What makes this possibility particularly real is Whitwell’s first point, regarding Joel Glazer. This is the head of the same Glazer family that brought the world’s greatest American footballer, Tom Brady, to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he was 42 years old.

No doubt the commercial value of that move was enough to dwarf the $50 million outlay, but of course it brought success on the pitch too, as, incredibly, the Bucs lifted the Superbowl just 11 months later.

The Brady story provides quite a blueprint and although many would argue that association football does not work the same way as American football – with pace and stamina over 90 minutes being more important than for a quarter back whose time on the pitch is limited – the dollar signs will almost certainly be lighting up in Glazer’s eyeballs and it would not be a surprise if the Portuguese international is found back in a United shirt next season.

Video: Bruno Fernandes and Fred shout at teammates during Europa League half-time break

A Youtube video has been circulating that shows Bruno Fernandes in the tunnel at half time in the Europa League final against Villareal.

United were disappointing on the night and lost the final 11-10 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Fernandes was United’s captain on the night and clearly did not feel that events were going their way, as can be seen in this video.

He is clearly aggrieved by what he saw as time-wasting by Tottenham loanee Juan Foyth after he was left with a bloody nose following an accidental collision with United’s Paul Pogba.

‘The number eight goes twice,’ the Portuguese playmaker is heard saying.

‘Just for the nose, down.’

‘One time he stays down one minute. After again and then after the goal.’

The captain is also heard complaining about the time taken for a VAR decision, saying ‘You wait one time for VAR. Three minutes?’

The video then shows substitute Fred spurring the team on.

‘Let’s go guys, let’s go guys. Come on,’ Fred says.

“Eh Scotty, second ball, be careful.’

Other teammates can also be heard shouting encouragement to Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani.

Someone else – with a northern accent – is then heard to say ‘we don’t have to be so f—ing slow, come on’.

£170m worth of talent: Solskjaer has a major transfer decision to make with this signing

Manchster United target Raphael Varane is edging closer to a Real Madrid exit after los Blancos completed the signing of David Alaba from Bayern Munich.

Talks between the Frenchman and the Spanish club have reached an impasse, with los Merengues reportedly keen to raise funds for an assault on Kylian Mbappe and the World Cup winner keen to gain experience in a different country.

According to The Express, ‘The Frenchman currently earns about £5 million a season at Los Blancos but United are ready to double that if they can complete the signing of him.

‘Real are ready to sell Varane for £60m if he snubs a new contract offer.’

United, however, are unlikely to pay full market value for a player who will be out of contract in a year’s time. Previous reports claim the Red Devils’ offer will be in the region of £40 million, leaving the two sides poles apart.

The same gulf in valuations seems to be the case for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. His release clause stands at €80 million (around £69m) and despite his recent comments about wanting to play for a bigger club, Sevilla are reported to be unwilling to bend on that price.

If both Varane and Kounde prove too rich for United’s blood, they do have potentially less expensive options on the shortlist, including Pau Torres and Nikola Milenkovic.

Villareal’s Torres was immense against the Reds in last Wednesday’s Europa League final and has a lower release clause of around £56 million, although numbers in the region of £40 million have been cited as potentially enough to secure his signature.

Napoli have also been linked with the 24-year-old, however, so there could be competition which could drive the price back up.

The final option (unless you believe the perennial Koulibaly rumours) is Milenkovic. He, too, is 12 months away from leaving on a free contract and according to Sport Witness, ‘it’s believed [Fiorentina] want €30-35m [£26-£30m] to sell him 12 months ahead of his contract expiring.’

In terms of asking price compared to market value, Kounde looks to be the worst option for United. Torres in that sense is the best.

Player Market Value € Asking Price €
Varane 60 60
Kounde 60 80
Torres 50 45
Milenkovic 28 30

Market values in Euros as per Transfermarkt.com

Another advantage that Torres has over the rest is that he is left-footed, which is an attribute that Solskjaer ranks highly on his tick list.

On the other hand, some analysts have argued that Torres is too similar in style to Maguire and Lindelof and that a more aggressive and pacy defender such as Milenkovic would provide better contrast.

There is also the argument that Varane is a proven elite athlete who has won everything and is the Rolls Royce option. As such, he may remain first choice.

The post Real Madrid set Raphael Varane asking price but Pau Torres is better value for Man United first appeared on The Peoples Person.

Cutthroat: Solskjaer ready to get rid of United’s highest paid player in major swap deal - report

Manchester United are considering an ambitious move for Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak, as they look for a solution to their problem goalkeeper spot according to reports.

The Rojiblancos reportedly value Oblak at around £70m, but former Atletico man David de Gea could reduce the outlay considerably by moving in the opposite direction.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent the latter stages of the season rotating De Gea and Dean Henderson, in the hope that one of the keepers would make the position their own. However, both players fluffed their auditions, leading to reports that Solskjaer is now in the market for a long-term resolution.

Just this week, the club signed journeyman former United youth player Tom Heaton on a free transfer. However, it’s widely expected that Heaton will come in as an experienced backup, rather than be considered for first team action.

Oblak is widely-regarded as one of the best keepers in the world. The Slovenia captain has just enjoyed another stellar season with title-winning Atletico, conceding a measly 25 goals in 38 games.

In those 38 games, he kept an impressive 18 clean sheets – making him the most frugal keeper in La Liga.

Dominant aerially and a supreme athlete to boot, Oblak is considered to be one of the most well-rounded keepers in the game. While he’s known to have good footwork and excellent command of his box, it’s his shot-stopping that really catches the eye.

Last season Oblak was in typically fine form, saving an incredible 80% of shots on target. His ability from the spot – especially pertinent right now – is just as impressive, with the keeper having saved a stunning 66% of penalties faced.

There’s no doubt Oblak would be a fantastic – and vital – addition to the side. All great teams are built on the foundation of a reliable keeper and United haven’t had that since De Gea’s decline started a couple of years ago.

However, there are a lot of questions to ask before a move like this starts to seem credible.

Firstly, would United’s budget even allow for a keeper of Oblak’s stature? It’s fairly common knowledge that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen in key outfield positions. Given a reported war chest of £150 million, a lot would depend on how much De Gea is valued at in the deal.

Next, could Atletico afford De Gea’s wages? The Spaniard is one of the highest-earning members in the squad and would surely need to take a huge reduction to fit into Atletico’s rigid pay structure.

It remains to be seen whether a return back to Madrid would hold enough sentimental allure to convince him to make such a sizeable financial sacrifice.

Finally, would Oblak himself push for the move? As we’ve established, Atletico are not known to be big-payers, with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Thomas Partey having moved in recent times.

The fact that a player like Partey was happy to trade Champions League football with Atletico for a Europa League run at Arsenal shows that even their best players are attainable.

Finding a new Goalkeeper is a headache Solskjaer would surely prefer not to have but cannot avoid. And yet, if a bid for Oblak is possible – and it doesn’t hinder the other problem positions – it could end up being the most important signing of the summer.

The post Manchester United linked with Jan Oblak and David de Gea swap deal first appeared on The Peoples Person.

Pogba showdown talks to begin this week, Raiola to demand around £135m - report

Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola is set to meet Manchester United negotiators on Zoom this week to discuss the midfielder’s future, reports The Daily Star.

Pogba is entering the final year of his United contract and would be able to leave the club on a free for the second time if nothing is agreed this summer – or at the latest, in the January window.

And the World Cup winner is believed to be ready to commit his future to United, but only if he receives an eye-watering increase in salary.

‘Mino Raiola, the Manchester United midfielder’s agent, has arranged a conference call with the Old Trafford hierarchy,’ The Star claims in an ‘exclusive’.

‘Pogba, 28, is entering the final year of his contract and Raiola is after £500k-a-week for his client to sign a new deal.

‘United, though, won’t go that high, with those figures enough to make him the club’s highest-paid player – even way ahead of talisman Bruno Fernandes.’

Pogba’s current deal is worth £290,000 per week and it is unlikely that United will want to increase that by too much, given the current financial climate.

Raiola’s own fee for negotiating any deal will also need to be taken into account. Reports from Italy claim that Gianluigi Donnarumma has left AC Milan on a free because Raiola was demanding €20 million from the Rossoneri as his fee for the keeper’s contract renewal.

So if The Daily Star’s information is correct, and assuming Raiola demands a similar percentage to that reported for his other star, a four year extension to Pogba’s contract would cost United some £135 million (four years at £500,000 per week plus £30 million agency fee). A three year deal would be around £100 million.

As The Daily Star states, there seems little chance that the Red Devils would be willing to countenance such a proposal.

On the other hand, if United opt to sell the Frenchman, Raiola is likely to make similar demands to any potential buying club, who in turn would be equally unlikely to accept the terms.

Whilst it would seem horrific for United to allow Pogba to leave for free a second time, as things stand it would seem to be the lesser of two evils when compared to being held to ransom.

United may also feel that they will still have a chance to renew Pogba’s contract next summer. Even though he could leave on a free, his age (he would be in his thirtieth year) and Raiola’s fees might mean that no other club would be willing to offer anything near to the £290,000 per week or more that the Red Devils will leave on the table.

The former pizza chef would therefore be wise to be a little bit less aggressive and more conciliatory than usual in his demands when he makes that Zoom call this week.

Spanish clubs fight for exciting Man United youngster's signature

Manchester United are getting exactly what they want with Facundo Pellistri as Spanish clubs are reportedly fighting for his signature.

The exciting youngster has spent some time on loan with Alaves and has clearly done enough to impress those in La Liga.

Pellistri was signed and announced last summer as though he was a first-team star but fans always knew that was just a way for the Glazers to make things look good.

The young Uruguayan clearly needs regular first-team, competitive football and so a loan makes sense for all parties.

Although he’s done well this season, it’s difficult to imagine him getting much minutes at Old Trafford so to have options next season is the perfect situation for United.

The Peoples Person last covered Pellistri’s potential stay at Alaves a few weeks ago and now that seems to have taken a step closer to happening.

If he stays with his current loan club then it would be the ideal situation in theory as they have treated him well.

Alaves know Pellistri, know how they want to use him and have worked well with him so far so it makes sense if he remains with them.

However, if a bigger La Liga club can offer first-team football for him next season then it might prove tempting.

If Pellistri is playing with better players then he can get better himself so there are a lot of factors for those at United to consider.

Given how Jadon Sancho might be on his way to Old Trafford, it’s the perfect time to let him pry his trade elsewhere for now.

Road to recovery: United star set to make dramatic Euro comeback

Manchester United star Harry Maguire is reportedly recovering well from his injury ahead of England’s campaign in the European Championship.

The towering centre-back has been crucial for his club all season long, even if he isn’t the world-class talent some fans want him to be.

Maguire splits opinion quite frequently but his spell out of the starting XI started to see some supporters acknowledge his importance.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has consistently insisted the former Leicester City man is crucial to his setup and dressing room.

The legendary Norwegian has publicly praised Maguire for his behind-the-scene work as well as leadership on the pitch.

According to the Daily Mail, Maguire is confident he will be fit for the Euros as he steps up his rehab for England.

The club captain is going through recovery at home but will also pop into Carrington for more treatment as he aims to be fit for June 13th.

The Peoples Person last covered news on Maguire when he was racing to be fit for the Europa League final.

Unfortunately he failed to make it in time but Solskjaer named him as a substitute despite his injury problems, suggesting even more so that he can play if desperately needed.

Although Maguire’s return is good news for England, it might not be the best news for Manchester United.

If the solid defender is rushed back to fitness just to feature for his country then he could risk getting a serious injury this summer.

United fans would certainly much prefer he is well-rested and recovered fully for the next season than see him play a part in the Euros.

'Way ahead': Man United star praised by surprise popular figure

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has received praise from a surprising source in former USA president Barack Obama.

The talented Englishman’s numbers are rather impressive this season as he grabbed 21 goals and 15 assists across all competitions.

However, Rashford wasn’t in the spotlight for Obama purely due to his sporting achievements but rather his humanitarian ones.

Over the course of the global health crisis, the academy graduate has butt heads with the government, and beaten them, twice over plans to feed school children during the lockdown.

Rashford’s efforts saw him deservedly receive an MBE and he’s gone on to inspire adults and children alike through his book too.

Obama’s praise will certainly inspire Rashford to do more but those in Manchester can’t be more proud of him than they already are.

The Peoples Person last covered the versatile attacker in a piece that discussed how he was beginning to walk a little more comfortably lately.

Rashford’s brilliant numbers all happened in a season when he was carrying at least three different knocks, with his ankle and shoulder the most troublesome of them all.

United fans have secretly been hoping he won’t have to feature for his country this summer in the Euros so he could finally get some much-needed rest and recovery.

Rashford can likely hit 20+ goals and 20+ assists next season if he manages to fully recover from all his injuries.

Hopefully he doesn’t pick up anything while playing for England and the Red Devils’ medical department can take care of him when he returns.

Step backwards: the fatal penalty flaw that De Gea couldn't fix in five years

As the recriminations from Manchester United’s Europa League loss to Villareal linger on, much of the focus has been on United goalkeeper David De Gea‘s tepid display in the shootout.

A series of high profile blunders have seen the Spaniard fall out of favour over the past two years, with his ‘rival’ Dean Henderson regularly being preferred between the sticks.

However, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose to stick with De Gea for Wednesday night’s high stakes showdown, and the keeper’s weakness from the spot was again exposed during an 11-10 shootout defeat.

This weakness will not come as a surprise to United followers – after all, De Gea has failed to save any of the last 32 penalties he’s faced for the club. It’s a barren patch that goes back five long years.

Goalkeeping analyst John Harrison has presented a fascinating analysis of the player’s technique from the spot, highlighting the deep flaw that contributed towards the defeat.

The analyst’s most damning observation involves the widely-accepted principle that a keeper takes a step in the direction of the anticipated flight of the kick. However, De Gea goes against convention, stepping inwardly – a “negative step” – which leaves him without the extra leg to power needed to launch himself towards his chosen corner.

This explains why the Spaniard seems to fall tamely in the general direction of the penalty, rather than propelling himself across goal.

Although it would be harsh to blame De Gea for his penalty miss, former Republic of Ireland keeper Dean Kiely noticed flaws of a psychological, rather than technical, nature.

Now Crystal Palace’s goalkeeping coach, Kiely said, “I think, if it was me, at that point I’m beginning to think, ‘Oh no, I’m going to have to take one…I thought the Villareal keeper hit his penalty exactly like I would expect a keeper to hit it…He hits it hard. De Gea though, I was surprised, he tried to place it.”

Whether De Gea should have been facing penalties at all is now moot. Solskjaer seemed paralysed in the face of his players’ fatigue and preoccupied by the possibility of a shootout. When the subs finally arrived – a glut of specialist penalty takers – his inhibited thinking was confirmed.

Bringing on a keeper with a much better penalty-saving record (5 from 19) in Henderson could, and should, have been his final sub.

Ultimately, if the shootout was still being played – and we ignored our better instincts by flicking over to see how it was going – it seems sadly inevitable that we’d find De Gea falling unconvincingly to the wrong side even now.

Poor coaching?: Man United loanee suggests he learnt more abroad

Manchester United loanee Diogo Dalot has admitted he does not know what will happen to him after returning from a season-long loan at AC Milan.

The Portuguese full-back went to the San Siro to gain experience in Serie A but despite a promising start, he failed to fully establish himself in Milan’s first team and he appears to have not convinced the Rossoneri to make the deal permanent.

In total, Dalot played a creditable 33 times for Milan, scoring twice and providing three assists.

And in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the 22-year-old admitted that he had learned a lot during his year at the Italian club.

‘On the pitch I feel I have improved a lot tactically,’ Dalot said.

‘I learned some defensive aspects here and it was fantastic to develop these qualities too.

‘But not only that: in attack how to go into the high press, recovering the ball as soon as possible … All very useful’.

It seems odd to find that this is something the Braga man has learned in Milan, given that it is an important element of United’s approach to the game under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dalot was also asked what head coach Stefano Pioli had taught him.

‘That the team must be focused for all ninety minutes and aware of every single aspect of the match, of what is happening.’

Again, Dalot’s words could suggest that focusing for the whole 90 minutes was something that he did not learn at United and this in turn could be construed as a criticism of Solskjaer’s coaching methods.

If these are veiled criticisms of the United boss, it does not bode well for a second chance at United, which leaves a sale or another loan as the most likely next move for the young star.

Dalot himself admitted to be in the dark as to what happens next.

‘I must say I had a fantastic year and met beautiful people. It was a real pleasure to play for Milan,’ he said.

‘But now I am thinking about the European [Under 21s] Championship and I really don’t know what will happen after that.’

From Italy: Ronaldo's 'mixed messages' could lead to sensational United swap deal

Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo could be set for one of the most high profile player exchange deals in football history, according to reports from Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Ronaldo is sending ‘mixed messages’ about whether he intends to stay in Turin for the last season of his contract.

However, the outlet believes that the Portuguese star would probably prefer to move and that United would be his destination of choice, with Pogba equally desperate to move the other way.

‘There is confusion, but the feeling is that CR7 is looking around. So much so that for weeks and weeks rumours have circulated that there is contact with Manchester United.

‘In the talks that led to the return of Massimiliano Allegri to Continassa, the CR7 topic was addressed on several occasions.

‘Nobody appears saddened by the possibility of an early farewell. Much less [Allegri] who already in 2019 (at the time he left) expressed all his doubts about the contribution of the champion from Funchal.

‘Of course, his pragmatic way of acting means he would not veto it: if Cristiano decides to stay he will certainly not raise the barricades.’

But Gazzetta can see an ideal solution.

‘At United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Paul Pogba lived dangerously last season too. The Frenchman has another year on his contract, but he longs to leave: above all he would rush back to Turin.

‘Juventus need €29 million [£25m] to settle Ronaldo’s contract. The Red Devils might ask for an economic return in their favour.

‘First we need to see if an agreement can be reached with the Portugal captain: will 20 million euros net a year be enough for the next two seasons?’

20 million Euros is the equivalent to a weekly wage of around £325,000 per week. If United agreed to value Ronaldo at £25 million, and would agree to that salary, then the deal would boil down to the Pogba valuations.

First, how much would United ask for the Frenchman? It seems likely to be around or in excess of £60 million, leaving Juve an extra £35 million or so to fork out. This does not even consider agent Mino Raiola’s commission, which is likely to be substantial. His track record suggests that at least £10 million would need to be added for his services.

Finally, there is the issue of Pogba’s salary. Juve made an exception to their normal wage structure for Ronaldo but they will find it difficult to justify doing the same again for Pogba.

The Italian FA recently introduced club salary limits which, while not precluding a £300 per week or so salary for Pogba, would make such a deal very restrictive for the rest of their transfer activity.

‘When the white disappears and everything becomes black about CR7’s future in Turin, then Pogba’s name … must be kept in mind,’ Gazzetta concludes.

A romantic idea, but the logistics are challenging. The operation would be a very complicated one and the odds must certainly weigh against it. But stranger things have happened.

United turn to Spain international as world-class alternative to Rice

Manchester United are once again linked with the transfer of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims to strengthen his midfield options this summer.

Saul is one of those names that is linked with United in seemingly every transfer window and with a long contract that runs to 2026, Atleti have no need to let the £50 million-rated international leave on the cheap.

However, reports in Spain suggest that circumstances this time around could be a little different and that this has put some big clubs – including United – on alert.

Marca reports that the Rojiblanco’s triumphant La Liga campaign ‘has not changed Saúl’s thinking about his future … after ending what has undoubtedly been his worst campaign on an individual level.

‘[Saul] has seen many games from the stands and has also suffered substitutions (some in decisive games) that, in his case, have only increased his desire to set another course in his career.’

The report goes on to claim that Juventus are leading the race to sign the 26-year-old, whose salary demands are said to be around £130,000 per week.

‘The reality is that Saúl’s idea continues to be to leave Madrid this summer. It is a move that he had already devised in his head in the summer of 2019 and that was frustrated by the lack of large offers (Atleti then ‘valued’ him at around €70 million [£60m], with a release clause of €150 million [£128m]).

Atleti’s executive director Gil Martin has said that the club would respect a player’s wish to leave ‘as long as an offer comes in that satisfies all parties.’ This suggests that they have softened their position from previous windows in terms of that £60 million fee .

‘The truth is that his career and his style of play have meant that clubs from the most powerful leagues on the continent have set their sights on the midfielder,’ Marca continues.

‘Teams like Bayern Munich, where they still remember the goal he scored in the 2016 Champions League semi-finals, Manchester United, the club they have been linked to in recent summers, Juventus, who are planning a revolution after a disappointing season and PSG, have knocked on the player’s door.’

It seems doubtful at this stage that Saul would be a priority for United, but he could certainly be on their radar in terms of a backup plan.

The Red Devils are prioritising a holding midfielder, with West Ham’s Declan Rice, the preferred option.

But with West Ham looking for a ridiculous £100 million for a player valued at £56 million, United might be forced to look for better value for money.

If something around the £40 million mark could be agreed for the Spain international, who is capable of playing the holding midfield role, then United would have to give the option serious consideration.

From Spain: Real to beat United to remarkable prime transfer target

Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid have entered the race for highly-prized Sevilla FC centre back Jules Kounde.

The 22 year old Parisian has “dazzled” La Liga fans with his “remarkable” impact at Sevilla, becoming a key ingredient in their impressive 4th place finish.

His performances have also caught the attention of France coach Didier Deschamps, who recently included the centre-back in his provisional squad for UEFA Euro 2021.

A physical presence at the heart of the Sevilla rear guard, Kounde has attracted the covetous glances of many of Europe’s top clubs; with Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal all being linked with a swoop for his services.

However, the Spanish side are reluctant to lose the Frenchman and will insist that any interested parties meet his £70m release clause.

Manchester United’s ongoing defensive woes have ensured that Kounde’s name has been a permanent fixture among a growing list of centre back targets.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be in the market for a reliable partner for Harry Maguire and Kounde’s pace and aerial dominance would be a welcome addition to his creaky backline. Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe have all failed to fully convince, making the position an imperative for the summer transfer window.

However, manager-less Real’s interest could represent a damaging blow to Solskjaer’s plans.

With main man Sergio Ramos now 35 years old – and Raphael Varane reported to be on the move – their reported interest in Kounde makes sense.

To add a further layer of intrigue, United are also said to retain a long-term interest in Varane himself, making Kounde a possible replacement for his compatriot in an Anglo-Spanish transfer merry-go-round.

With the Spanish giants suffering from well-documented financial strains, it would seem unlikely that a big-money move for a centre-back would be a priority – unless they really are preparing for Varane’s departure.

United’s soft underbelly has been repeatedly exposed in the absence of captain Maguire, with the latest high-profile calamity taking place in Wednesday’s Europa League Final.

In that context, either Varane or Kounde would be a terrific addition to the squad, with Solskjaer looking to instil a defensive solidity that would galvanise the whole team and act as a bedrock in the fight for major future honours.

House Hunting: United star searching for a new house despite recent transfer links

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is on the lookout for houses in and surrounding Manchester according to recent tweets from Jonathan Shrager.

Pogba, who has one year left on his current deal, has recently been linked to Real Madrid and other clubs around the world as United look to sell, unless Pogba signs a new deal.

And according to Jonathan Shrager, Pogba today was searching for new houses which could potentially hint at him wanting to stay at Man United despite the recent Europa League final result.

The French star has featured heavily this season in the midfield but also has been deployed as a left-winger on multiple occasions.

Pogba has scored six goals in all competitions this season as well as helping to secure back-to-back top four positions for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

The Real Madrid target has been pretty impressive for United since his return from his previous club Juventus.

With the midfielder looking for houses, it could only suggest that he is planning his options this summer and while it does not confirm anything to fans, it must come as good news that he is planning on staying.

If one were to inspect further into the reasons why Pogba is looking at houses, it could be for his international teammate Raphaël Varane who in recent months has been linked with a high-profile move to the Old Trafford club.

Can fans of the Red Devils take this as good news? I believe it is way too early to think about whether this is good or bad news however it is a start.

It’s also something that could be looked into further and we will look into it further once it becomes clear what Pogba was doing today if it ever does become clear.

Solskjaer ready to sell star he only bought last summer, big surprise - report

Manchester United are prepared to sell Alex Telles despite joining the club during the previous summer transfer window according to Sport Witness.

Arriving from Porto, The 28-year-old left-back has failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Man United due to Luke Shaw’s sensational form.

Telles has only featured nine times in the Premier League this season and started 12 in all competitions.

Telles didn’t expect a backup role when he first arrived but instead a role where he actively fought for that starting position but it hasn’t been that way this season.

According to Sport Witness, a Portuguese newspaper claims the reason why he is on the market is that he hasn’t established himself this season.

However, the Red Devils will be expecting a big sum of money for the left-back who arrived for €15m signing a deal that runs until 2024.

This is in the hope of a return in profit for the club after buying him from the Portuguese club.

If United manage to sell Telles, there would only be one backup in Brandon Williams who is drawing up interest from Southampton with Marcos Rojo leaving in the January transfer window.

This will mean that the club will be on search in the market for a new left-back.

In terms of transfer rumours, The Peoples Person reported at the end of last year about possible interest in Sporting Lisbon wonderkid, Nuno Mendes.

There is enough reason to believe in the stories above that United will be willing to move on the left-back and try and bring in somebody else who is a lot younger and isn’t in their prime like Telles currently is.

Is a move out of the club a good thing for Telles? I believe so considering the lack of game time this season after proving himself at other clubs.

Hugely exciting and talented 17yo United midfielder makes massive breakthrough

Manchester United’s academy star Hannibal Mejbri has decided to represent the Tunisian national team and has received his first international call-up.

The 18-year-old has chosen to represent Tunisia going forward despite representing France at youth levels for the under-16s and then 17s.

Mejbri will become the first player to represent the African country at Man United if he’s given his first cap.

Scoring five goals, and assisting 10 in 25 appearances for the academy, Mejbri was promoted to first-team training in February and then went on to secure a new deal the next month.

He then made his senior debut for Manchester United on 23 May 2021 when the Premier League’s season came to a close.

According to Manchester Evening News, just days after declaring his intentions to play for the Tunisian national side, the French-born player received his first call-up to the side ahead of their friendlies this upcoming June.

United fans went to Twitter reacting to the official Manchester United Tweet about the young star’s call up.

Some fans sent through their congratulations about the recent news:

Other fans brought up his recent debut as well!

Being eligible to play for Tunisia through his parents, it certainly wasn’t an easy decision for the player because of his connections to the French youth teams already.

If Mejbri makes his international debut for Tunisia, he is still eligible to play for France although that seems unlikely considering the switch has only just been made in line with the World Cup Qualifiers this coming September.

It wasn’t cheap for United to buy Mejbri who came to the club in 2019 from Monaco for a deal that eventually will rise to €10m.

Will this be a good switch for such a young talent? Yes, it will be. Why? That is because it’ll be easier for Hannibal to get into the international squad like he has for this summer’s friendlies and he will get minutes on the pitch on the international stage.

Prime United transfer target breaks silence, confirms he may have to move

Sevilla star Jules Kounde has opened up on his plans for his future amid reports over a potential transfer to Manchester United.

The French defender is believed to be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s wish list for signings this summer transfer window.

United fans have long felt Harry Maguire needs a quality partner alongside him and there are those who think Kounde can be that man.

Victor Lindelof has mostly featured alongside the club captain but there are not many who think he is the world-class talent needed in defence.

Solskjaer is said to be targetting a centre-back, right-back, striker, right-winger and defensive-midfielder this summer so the potential transfer does make sense on paper at least.

According to RMC Sport, Kounde said: “Regarding my future, I may have to change this summer, but nothing has been recorded yet, I have not decided anything.

“My goal is to play in a big club, to always try to progress and win trophies too. I may have to move, but it’s not current.”

Kounde’s words were translated using Google translate so perhaps it needs to be taken with a grain of salt though the general gist of it seems straightforward.

The Peoples Person last covered news surrounding the young defender back in March when it was claimed by Fabrizio Romano that the price-tag would be €80m and so a struggle for the Red Devils.

Given how it’s believed Solskjaer will have a max £150m transfer net spend this summer, Kounde’s €80m is unlikely to happen given how roughly £80m will be needed to secure Sancho alone.

Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Villareal’s Pau Torres are two other names being floated about for the centre-back positions.

It’s believed both would cost less than Kounde’s €80m at around €50m each so perhaps they are more attainable targets.

It’s on: Sancho to United accelerating, Dortmund already have a replacement lined up - report

Manchester United target and Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho has potentially edged a little closer to a possible transfer according to reports.

It’s no secret the supremely talented Englishman is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s wishlist and probably high up as well.

Sancho was chased significantly last summer by United but, as was well publicly advertised, the move fell through.

Dortmund refused to budge on their asking price and Solskjaer’s side refused to increase their bid and so the player remained in Germany.

However, it seems this summer things may be different if everything goes to plan and the Red Devils have been given a little boost.

According to The Guardian, out of all of Solskjaer’s preferred, high-profile targets, Sancho is the most likely one to join.

This is backed indirectly by EuroSport’s claim Dortmund have already identified Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi as his replacement.

The Peoples Person previously covered reports on how the German giants have a gentleman’s agreement to allow Sancho to leave so it makes sense he’s the most likely arrival at Old Trafford.

Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish are a few other names being linked with Manchester United this summer and given the complexity of the deals involved with any of these players, the 21-year-old winger does appear to be the most straightforward transfer.

Sancho is essentially the exact type of player Solskjaer is asking for in the past; a young, ready-made starting XI player who will improve the squad massively.

Whether the board have it in them or not to complete the deal is another issue entirely but at the minute, everything is working in their favour.

The only potential hiccup is the finances involved but United should have the money needed to get the deal over the line.

Exciting: Solskjaer set to be backed with massive summer transfer war chest - report

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told exactly how much he’ll be allowed to spend this summer transfer window.

The legendary Norwegian has come under fire recently following the loss to Villareal in the Europa League final.

There are many fans who feel he will have to redeem himself soon or face the sack and one way he can win over some admirers again is through transfers.

United supporters all agree the last summer transfer window was not necessarily a successful one as no ready-made starting XI players were really brought in.

Edinson Cavani was the only one to feature regularly eventually and that was due to him capitalising on Anthony Martial‘s injury.

According to ESPN, Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Jack Grealish, Pau Torres, Sven Botman, Raphael Varane, Declan Rice, and Max Aarons are the players on the shortlist while Tom Heaton is already set to join on a free transfer.

It’s understood Solskjaer wants to strengthen the striker, winger, defensive midfielder, centre-back, and right-back positions but has been told the aim is to bring in just three players.

This is because John Murtough and Ed Woodward are keen to avoid a high turnover of players in one window and so want to bring in three players and get rid of three players.

Solskjaer has plenty of decisions to make, especially as the Red Devils want to end the summer with a net spend between £100m to £150m.

The good news for fans is that the former striker is targetting the right positions and the right type of players.

The bad news is that the club don’t seem capable of delivering everyone he wants or all the positions he wants.

What is likely to happen is that one major signing will be brought in, perhaps Sancho, and the other two incomings will be squad players with potential.

The Borussia Dortmund man alone will cost around £80m so it’s tough to imagine United will still be able to sign the likes of Kane, Grealish, Varane, or Rice on top of that.

Manchester City’s Ferran Torres says Chelsea are “a pain in the neck” to play against ahead of Champions League final

The Champions League final is just a day away and both Manchester City and Chelsea’s preparations are in full swing for the all-important game.

Chelsea have pedigree in this competition, having won the coveted European trophy in 2012 against Bayern Munich.

Despite the squad possessing a completely new look now, the players won’t forget what the individuals before them managed to achieve.

Manchester City, however, are novices when it comes to Champions League final. Saturday will be the club’s first ever appearance in one, and Pep Guardiola and his team seem more than ready.

The Champions League has always eluded the Manchester club, but tomorrow marks a key chapter in their story to overturn this verdict.

Speaking to UEFA.com ahead of the game tomorrow, City forward Ferran Torres sat down to talk all thing’s Chelsea, Pep, and his mindset ahead of the Champions League final.

The Spaniard joined the club in the summer, arriving from Valencia for just over £20million, a steal of a deal for a player with a market value of £45million.

When asked about Chelsea, however, Torres didn’t hold back about the difficulties of playing against the London club, with him describing their style of play as ‘a pain in the neck’…

They’re a pain in the neck, in a good way, since they’re always chasing the ball. They run a lot and they want the ball. They don’t just go for counterattacks, they also want to take the ball off you, which deserves some credit.” – Ferran Torres speaking to UEFA.com

As we saw during the two clubs’ last game against one another, this was very evident from the get-go despite City taking the lead.

Individuals such as N’Golo Kante are great runners and often cover great lengths of the pitch when trying to win back possession.

This is a tactic that Thomas Tuchel has utilised massively since arriving at Stamford Bridge, and it appears to be working.

Torres later went on to counter his points, in light of his praise over Chelsea, stating that he believes City are one of the best teams in the world, and that the Champions League trophy would be ‘the icing on the cake’ to a successful season, with Betway also making them favourites to win it…

“We’re one of the best teams in the world, [so] we have to try and win it all. We’ve won the Premier [League], which is a very hard task – you have to work hard throughout the whole season to achieve it. But a Champions League final [win] would be like the icing on the cake. City have never won one, which is an extra motivation, and we’re going to work hard in this final sprint. And we’re going into it feeling really excited, because above everything else it’s about enjoying it.” – Ferran Torres speaking to UEFA.com
