Timothy Fosu-Mensah is close to an agreement to join Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, according to The MEN.
The Dutchman is out of contract in June and at a recent press conference, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that he was free to leave in this window if he could find a club.
And whilst Ajax and Hertha Berlin have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, it would appear to be high-flying Leverkusen that will become his destination in a £1.5 million deal.
It is an exciting opportunity for Fosu-Mensah, who will be joining a side that lies third in the Bundesliga, just four points behind Bayern Munich and ahead of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund.
Levrkusen’s Dutch head coach, Peter Bosz, has transformed the once mid-table side into a regular European outfit that has finished fourth, fifth and fourth in his first three seasons at the club.
Fosu-Mensah has struggled with numerous injuries in his time at Old Trafford and loan spells at Fulham and Crystal Palace were also interrupted for the same reason.
The player started United’s first Premier League match of this season, a 3-1 home defeat to Palace, but has been unable to break into the side since, with just two short substitute appearances in the Champions League.
Manchester United have fielded some of the worlds greatest centre backs over the years, but how much do you know about them? Take our quiz below to find out!
