Two players fluff their lines while one excels - United player ratings vs Watford

Manchester United made their way edgily into the hat for the FA Cup fourth round draw after overcoming Watford 1-0 at Old Trafford this evening. Here are our player ratings for the game:

(A score of 6 is around average.)

Dean Henderson 6 – Had very little to do.

Brandon Williams 4 – Seems to have lost a lot of confidence or perhaps is just rusty due to lack of games. But this version of Brandon is a shadow of the player we saw last season.

Eric Bailly 7 – Looked solid but when will his injury curse end?

Axel Tuanzebe 7 – Did very well again. Really looks class at centre back and switched effortlessly from left to right when Maguire came on.

Alex Telles 6 – A mixed bag from Telles. Created six chances in the game – twice as many as any other player – but gave away possession a number of times as well.

Scott McTominay 8 – Despite a couple of wayward passes, this was a very good performance from Scott. Great goal to start the game off and captained the side really well in the first half.

Donny van de Beek 7 – Didn’t quite impose himself as we’d have hoped but showed a lot of football intelligence and some silky skills.

Juan Mata 6 – One lovely flick that nearly led to a goal just before half time, otherwise a fairly meh performance from Mata.

Jesse Lingard 7 – One of Jesse’s best games in a long while. Looked determined and confident. Will be disappointed to be subbed.

Dan James 4 – A loan is surely the best bet for the Welshman now. He just doesn’t seem to be a Man United standard player.

Mason Greenwood 6 – Disappointing for Mason. Didn’t get any service but did not make good enough runs and seems lacking in confidence.

Substitutes

Harry Maguire 6 – Did nothing wrong.

Marcus Rashford 5 – Really getting into bad habits of dwelling on the ball too much. His control and positive dribbles and take-ons are impressive but it all gets too ponderous in front of goal.

Anthony Martial 6 – Looked OK but didn’t want to join in the high press.

Nemanja Matic 6 – Nothing of note to report.
