Manchester United have been told the relatively modest price-tag for one of their targets in Lille’s Boubakary Soumare.
It’s believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has kept an eye on him of late and perhaps would’ve already made a move for him had the club had money.
United are reportedly not expecting any major arrivals this winter and are focussing their attentions on departures.
However, fans and perhaps even Solskjaer would’ve loved to see one or two new players come in to help with a title race.
Soumare fits the mould of player some supporters wanted to see at Old Trafford but it seems they’ll have to wait for anything to happen.
To be clear about Manchester United plans: Boubakary Soumaré and Max Aarons have been ‘scouted’, they’re appreciated but *no* talks have been opened to sign them in January. #MUFC
Lille ask €35m to sell Soumaré and Man Utd never made inquiry/planned to sign him right now. https://t.co/Lq0IbzCy5G

Fans have long wanted a natural defensive midfielder in the squad who can take the starting XI up a level.
Nemanja Matic is the only player who can play in that position but many feel he isn’t good enough to start regularly and lacks mobility.
€35m is not a large fee, especially considering what the club spent in the summer but perhaps they feel the financial uncertainty these days means they should be more careful.
United need to offload some players to get rid of some high wages that aren’t reflective of their game time, such as Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.
Manchester United have fielded some of the worlds greatest centre backs over the years, but how much do you know about them? Take our quiz below to find out!
