The likelihood of Daniel James leaving Old Trafford on loan in January has intensified after another club has joined the race to scoop him up.
James was a regular for Manchester United last season, playing 46 times, but has been a fringe player this term with just six appearances under his belt.
The situation has already alerted today’s opponents, Leeds United, with manager Marcelo Bielsa believed to be a big fan of the Welsh international.
But according to The Sun, Brighton have also thrown their cap into the ring.
‘The Seagulls asked about James, 23, in the last transfer window but he opted to stay at Old Trafford,’ the outlet claims.
‘However, his chances of starts are slim and he has the Euro 2021 finals on his horizon.
‘Wales want to see James playing more often and staying sharp for their campaign as he was a key part of their qualification.
‘Brighton, just above the drop zone, have found it hard to score lately and [manager Graham] Potter needs extra attacking thrust.’
James played under Potter in his final season at Swansea and it might well be a tempting move as it would allow him to be reunited with the manager under whom he played the best football of his career.
‘James has told pals he would be happy to play for Potter again as he thrived under his style in their last spell together,’ The Sun confirms.
Whether he chooses Leeds or Brighton, it seems much more likely this time that James will accept that a loan is the best option for kick starting his career again, with chances at Old Trafford set to continue to be rare.
October signing Facu Pellistri is pushing for a first team chance on the right wing and will be joined by wonderkid Amad Diallo in January, potentially leaving James even further down the pecking order.
