Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba will almost certainly miss Sunday’s trip to face Southampton in the Premier League.
Speaking at today’s pre-match press conference, the manager said that whilst a number of players look likely to recover from knocks, the two midfielders were further behind in their recovery.
‘Scott and Paul they didn’t train this morning, they’re not on the grass, so they look like they’re very unlikely for the weekend,’ Solskjaer said.
‘Marcus [Rashford], Victor [Lindelof] and Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] came through the session today so they should be OK, but we’re not 100% sure.
‘Luke [Shaw] has just started his rehab out on the grass, not with the team yet.
Jesse [Lingard]’s back from his isolation period, back with the group, he’s had a couple of day’s training.
‘And apart from that, Phil Jones will probably be back after Christmas some time.’
Solskjaer was subsequently asked whether Pogba’s ankle injury was a separate issue to the one that kept him out of a large part of last season.
‘Separate issue, yeah,’ the manager replied.
He did not say any more and there was then an awkward silence before the next question.
