Today begins the second international break of the 2020/21 Premier League season and, at this particular juncture, Chelsea can be more than satisfied with their recent work.
As ever, there is plenty of representation from Frank Lampard’s squad spread across the globe – indeed, 17 of his players have received international call-ups – so we’ve put together an overview of where and when the Stamford Bridge stars will be in action.
No fewer than four Chelsea players were called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad to face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly on Thursday before taking on Iceland and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League. Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell, and Tammy Abraham are available for all three whilst Reece James is suspended for both competitive matches.
Three Frenchmen also headed off this week, with Olivier Giroud, N’Golo Kante, and Kurt Zouma called up for the world champions’ friendly against Finland tonight ahead of UEFA Nations League clashes with Portugal and Sweden.
Midfielder Mateo Kovacic seems to have felt no lasting effects after being forced off through injury against Sheffield United and has travelled with Croatia for a friendly away to Turkey tonight before Nations League fixtures against Sweden on Saturday and Portugal next Tuesday.
Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner were both named in the Germany squad whilst Kai Havertz recovers from a positive COVID-19 test.
Italian duo Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho both travel for a set of three matches, starting with Estonia tonight.
Out in the cold at Chelsea but still a part of Spain’s setup, Kepa Arrizabalaga could get a chance to play once again as La Roja face Netherlands in a friendly before taking on Switzerland and Germany in the UEFA Nations League.
There was a USA callup for Christian Pulisic, who has been short of game-time due to persistent injury problems, but he hasn’t got far to travel as the States face Wales in Cardiff tomorrow night, where he could face Blues loanee Ethan Empadu.
Experienced centre-back Thiago Silva, who has played a major part in the improvement of the Blues’ defence, is still going strong at international level despite being 36 years old and will be part of the Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers at home to Venezuela on Friday night and away to Uruguay next Tuesday.
Finally, Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech will be in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying action for their Senegal and Morocco respectively.

Whilst plenty of Chelsea fans will on with interest as to how their idols fare over the next fortnight, plenty will watch on with the sole hope there are no injury repercussions, especially with the likes of Pulisic, who has barely been seen this season for the Blues.
