United poised to swoop as Dembele doubts about staying at Barcelona

Ousmane Dembele is open to the idea of joining Manchester United from Barcelona this summer and is having doubts about staying in Spain, according to reports.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano last night confirmed a report coming from Catalan specialist journalist Gerard Romero, via @Utdreport, which claimed that ‘Ousmane Dembélé is beginning to have doubts about staying at Barcelona,’ and that ‘#mufc continue to try and sign him on loan plus the option to buy. Barcelona continue to ask for a permanent deal.’

Dembele is seen by United as an alternative to Jadon Sancho if, as seems increasingly likely, they do not manage to prise the Englishman away from Borussia Dortmund in this window.

Whether Dembele’s openness to leaving the Camp Nou extends to a permanent exit or is merely for a loan deal is unclear. However, as Romero’s report claims, the Red Devils are keen on the idea of a loan with the option to buy, probably due to doubts about Dembele’s fitness after a string of serious injuries, but also potentially because they intend to try for Sancho again next summer.

Dembele’s injury record, from transfermarkt.com

Barcelona, on the other hand, want to sell the player to raise funds to buy Memphis Depay from Lyon.

The Catalans are reportedly willing to let the Frenchman leave for less than half of the €138 million they paid for him in 2017.

With the loan or sell issue creating an impasse, a creative solution may need to be found. For example, a sale with a low fixed fee and high variable portion based on matches played (for example, a fixed fee of around €25-€30 million plus up to €30-€40m based on appearances) could provide Barça with enough income to land their target while providing United with sufficient insurance in regard to the issue of Dembele’s fitness.

Solskjaer suggests Man United's summer transfer window may be over

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted there will be no more transfers this summer, cooling down any excitement over seeing any more fresh faces.

Donny van de Beek was the only player brought in this transfer window, coming in from Ajax and while links had long existed, it was completed rather quickly.

Critics point out the only reason the deal happened was because former United star Edwin van der Sar is the CEO of the Dutch giants and the young midfielder was available for cheap.

Fans have run out of patience given how there’s less than a week left for the summer window to end and there appears to be no end in sight in regards to seeing anyone come in.

Solskjaer chose to suggest in his post-match press conference that there should be no expectations, explaining that he’s working with the squad he has.

Of course, Solskjaer’s words could be a transfer strategy but history suggests that’s not necessarily the case.

Claiming you don’t want any new players then chasing every available player isn’t exactly the best way to go about things.

Fans feel at least two new fresh faces need to come in if Manchester United are serious about challenging for the title.

No one sincerely feels the team will win the league but they want to see the side involved in the title race this time around.

'What Manchester United need'- Fans call for talented star to feature more often

Manchester United fans let their feelings be known in terms of how well Eric Bailly did vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

The former Villareal man was only bested my Juan Mata‘s goalscoring display but supporters still didn’t forget to praise him.

Bailly was central to the reason why United kept a clean-sheet in the 3-0 victory and his form has been a pleasure to watch.

The aggressive defender appears to be more trusted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season and supporters have made it clear they want that too.

Bailly’s constant injuries has seen his career at Old Trafford constantly stall and the hope is he can remain fit in order to reach his full potential.

Bailly’s actual ability or commitment cannot be questioned and the concerns always lay with his lack of availability due to injuries.

Solskjaer has been keen to slowly ease the powerful centre-back back into full fitness and it was the right decision to make.

Fans may be eager to see Bailly more regularly but if he’s not managed properly then Manchester United will suffer once more.

It’s best to hand him minutes here or there until he’s able to prove his fitness then throw him into the deepend.

One goal, one assist: Man United star statistically blows away Brighton

Manchester United star Juan Mata was in great form vs Brighton & Hove Albion, winning the man of the match award deservedly in a 3-0 victory.

The experienced Spaniard proved his worth to the club with a brilliant performance, grabbing a superb goal in the process.

United desperately needed a win after a poor start to their season and Mata rose to the occasion to ensure the team progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to deliver some silverware this season to put some doubters to rest and so it made it even more important to get the victory.

Mata may not be a regular starting XI star but he is reliable in certain situations and proved his value to the squad.

Even though his pass completion rate and chances created were impressive, it’s arguably his recoveries and ground duels that catch the eye.

It could be argued that under Solskjaer, Mata has become more hardworking than before and that was evidenced by how often he tracked back vs Brighton.

In the end, he got his reward and it’s difficult to imagine him not being handed more minutes despite the good work he did for the team.

100% tackles won: Can Solskjaer afford to drop defender from starting XI

Manchester United star Eric Bailly couldn’t have put in a better display vs Brighton & Hove Albion, keeping a clean-sheet in the process of a 3-0 victory.

The talented Ivorian is widely recognised as the club’s best centre-back but his proneness to injuries has often held him back.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have consequently been the preferred partnership but that has never sat well with supporters.

However, with Bailly now being handed more minutes, that partnership may be challenged and should he continue putting in similar performances, it will only be a matter of time before he starts.

The challenge for the Villareal man is to prove his fitness and show he can be someone who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can rely on.

Bailly didn’t put a foot wrong against Brighton and on the back of his recent form deserves to continue starting for as long as he can keep it up and keep fit.

Although both Maguire and Lindelof’s spots in the starting XI should be under scrutiny, it’s unlikely the former could ever be dropped.

The England international is Manchester United’s captain and Solskjaer spent an incredible sum of money on him.

Dropping Lindelof is the easier call and probably the one that’s likelier to happen in the long run.

Club president confirms Arsenal are one of ‘three big clubs’ in for midfielder

Club president confirms Arsenal are one of ‘three big clubs’ in for midfielder

Arsenal’s pursuit of a new midfielder continues to drag on, with just a matter of days left of this transfer window, and now confirmation that the Gunners face competition for their top target.

Mikel Arteta has seemingly put focus on signing Lyon’s Houssem Aouar before the deadline, but the club president has on Wednesday revealed ‘three big clubs’ are in for the Frenchman (one of which is Arsenal).

Reporter Fabrizio Romano carried the quotes via his social media that Arsenal are indeed in for the 22-year-old;

We know that three big clubs are interested in him. 2 in the short-term, 1 in the long-term.”

Not much has happened. All the clubs can’t give us financially what Lyon wants.”

Arsenal now seemingly have to meet the financial requirements of Lyon and hope their two other (unnamed) rivals fail to up their own bids.

The transfer deadline in England is next Monday, October 5th 2020.

Player ratings: Mata steals the show in professional win over Brighton

Here are our player ratings for United’s Carabao Cup match against Brighton.

(A score of 6 is around average.)

Dean Henderson 8 – Made a fantastic save to maintain United’s lead and seems to instill confidence and organise his defence in a way David de Gea seems unable to do.

Diogo Dalot 5 – Big chance to impress either Solskjaer or potential buyers today but looked like he didn’t want to mess his hair up. Better in the second half, but a generally disappointing performance.

Eric Bailly 8 – Commanding performance from Bailly, who surely must be first choice for the Spurs game. If injury problems and rushes of blood to the head can be curbed, Bailly is a world-class centre-back.

Victor Lindelof 7 – Lindelof’s best performance this season.

Brandon Williams 6 – Did OK, but no fireworks from the youngster.

Scott McTominay 7 – Seems harsh to criticise a goalscorer, but did little else otherwise. Scott needs to become more imposing and stamp his mark on games.

Fred 5 – Fred seems back to his first season form. Clearly needs regular football to be at his best, and that seems unlikely to happen in current squad unless there are injuries.

Donny van de Beek 8 – It seems that Donny is one of those players who goes about his business quietly but effectively. The flick for Mata’s goal was sublime.

Juan Mata 9 – Man of the match. A goal, an assist and just a masterclass for the younger players on how a football brain and positive attitude can be more important than all the power, speed and strength in the world.

Dan James 3 – It’s quite sad to watch James now and Solskjaer is not doing him any favours by continuing to play him. Needs a loan desperately.

Odion Ighalo 4 – A poor performance from the Nigerian, who is starting to look like the player we saw at Watford rather than the amazing player who arrived from China in January.

Substitutes

Paul Pogba 8 – Pogback! What a fantastic substitute appearance from the Frenchman, capped with a good goal.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Did not have too much influence on the game although looked lively.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Not an impressive few minutes. Could have had a good assist to Rashford but was greedy and squandered the chance.

Two games, two clean sheets: Why Henderson must be made Man United’s number one

Manchester United’s backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson kept his second clean sheet of the season tonight as the Red Devils overcame Brighton 3-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Henderson is yet to let in a goal for United in his two appearances and is putting increasing pressure on David de Gea for the Premier League number one spot.

While Henderson has kept those clean sheets, De Gea has let in five goals and can consider himself lucky after Brighton hit the woodwork five times on Saturday.

It is of course not a direct comparison, as Henderson has played against a Championship side and a much changed Brighton eleven. However, if the 23-year-old’s goal this season is to oust the Spaniard as United’s number one, he couldn’t have got off to a better start.

A fantastic dive to his left in the second half prevented what would have been an equalising goal for Brighton this evening and if truth be told, it was the kind of shot that as a United supporter you have come to expect wopuld head into the back of the net in recent months.

Eric Bailly also made a big difference in defence, with Victor Lindelof looking a different player alongside the Ivorian as compared to when he partners club captain Harry Maguire.

It would be a brave decision for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to keep Henderson in particular in the side for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Spurs, but that is arguably now more due to reputation, seniority and perception rather than based on ability. Because whilst De Gea was at one stage one of the world’d best goalkeepers – if not the very best – he is no longer the best keeper at Manchester United and given the opportunity, Dean Henderson could go on to be even better than the Spaniard was in his prime.

'Cool older brother'- Man United fans react to star's performance vs Brighton

Manchester United star Juan Mata stole the show in the team’s win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup round of 16 tie.

The Spanish maestro is well-loved by fans and for a good reason but he proved to be more than just a loveable person tonight.

United beat Brighton comfortably, netting thrice and keeping a clean-sheet despite some nerves from supporters.

Mata was central to everything that was positive in the team’s play and rightfully deserved praise from the fans.

There have been question marks over the former Chelsea star’s role in the first-team but he has answered those spectacularly.

While Mata isn’t seen as the ideal starter in Manchester United’s attack, his performances of late have shown he deserves to at least be involved in the conversation.

The experienced midfielder may end up proving his role is better off as a squad player but he does warrant starting the next fixture purely based on form.

Nonetheless, Mata is not one of the players who are considered deadwood as he still contributes, as shown by his latest performances.

When the goals and assists run out then perhaps it’s worth reconsidering his position but for now, he has a role to play in Solskjaer’s United.

European giants line up a move for Chelsea star as game time fears become a reality

According to Max Bielefeld of Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are ‘still interested’ in signing Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The German giant’s interest in the 19-year-old began back in January 2019 when they made two bids that were subsequently rejected by the Blues.

Hudson-Odoi injured his Achilles tendon in August 2019, bringing an end to any immediate further transfer speculation.

After much conjecture over his future, the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager saw the England international sign a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, following the arrival of multiple attackers into the Chelsea squad, the winger could see his future elsewhere once more, especially if the current European champions rekindle their interest with a bid.

The report also claims that ‘the 19-year-old can still imagine a change to the German record champions’.

READ CHELSEA VERDICT

Hudson-Odoi is a talent with bags of ability as he has shown on numerous occasions in his fledgling Chelsea career to date.

Since recovering from a serious injury-hit season last year, the youngster has struggled for regular game time and could well have his head turned once more, although the Blues would be wise to hang on to him.

The problem is however, Hudson-Odoi could well look at the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and simply wonder if he will get the outings he needs.

That said, the opportunities in Bavaria aren’t likely to come easy either. The German champions are awash with attacking talent, including the recently signed from Manchester City, Leroy Sane.

United close in on deal for sensational French star as Sancho hopes fade

Ousmane Dembele could become a Manchester United player this week but reports have differed wildly as to whether it would be a loan or permanent move.

The Red Devils are still believed to be trying to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, but have lined up Dembele as an alternative should their last-ditch efforts to sign the Englishman prove unfruitful.

Barcelona are desperate to raise funds to facilitate their move for former United star Memphis Depay from Lyon, and with Ansu Fati on their books, they have decided that they are willing to let Dembele go for between £45 – £55 million – a fraction of the £125 million they paid for him from Borussia Dortmund two years ago.

Spanish outlet AS reported yesterday evening that ‘the French winger of Barcelona is very close to closing his transfer to Manchester United so that Barça would have the financial muscle to face the Memphis Depay operation,’ and that ‘part of what Barcelona would gain through the transfer of Dembélé would be used to sign Depay.

It has been widely reported this summer that Dembele does not wish to leave the Camp Nou and while the English press claim that that is still the case, Mundo Deportivo reporter Francesc Alguilar last night claimed that: ‘Ed Woodward, the executive director of United, was the one who contacted Ousmane Dembélé’s entourage and Barça…They have been trying to convince Dembele for some time, but he wanted to continue at Barça…[but] in the end, they have succeeded.’

Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano believes that both United and Dembele would prefer a loan, saying ‘#MUFC would only consider a loan deal and the player always refused to leave Barça [turned down #LFC and Juve bids] on last 3 months.’

The question, therefore is: who is right and what is going on?

The fact of the matter is that much as Barcelona would want to sell Dembele to raise funds for the Depay transfer, United will not want to go down that road, and the player will be hesitant as well.

For United, Dembele’s woeful injury record is a concern. Since arriving at the Camp Nou, he has torn his biceps femoris tendon twice and was out for over half of last season. In three years he has suffered seven muscle injuries.

It is logical therefore that those injury doubts are quashed before the Red Devils commit to a contract for the player, and a season-long loan would also give Dembele himself the chance to evaluate life in the Premier League and whether it is something he wants to do permanently. A loan with an option to buy – with the player’s right of veto – therefore seems like the most likely scenario.

Losing Dembele’s salary off the books and receiving a reasonable loan fee from the Red Devils should go a long way to clearing the path for Depay’s transfer, so at this late stage, the Blaugrana are likely to make do with that scenario as well.

That seems to be the way things are progressing this morning, with Sky Sports having reported that the two clubs are now locked in discussions over a loan deal.

Deal close: brilliant striker looks United bound despite stiff competition - report

Manchester United face stiff competition in their pursuit of a loan deal for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.

The 22-year-old struggled to get minutes for los Blancos last season after two sensational years at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Zinedine Zidane is keen to send the Serbian back out on loan this term, in order both to give minutes to another young striker, Borja Mayoral, and to save at least some of his salary.

According to Spanish outlet AS, ‘Manchester United are currently the best placed to get the loan… after the English club has advanced considerably throughout this Tuesday in negotiations with both the player’s agent and with Real Madrid.’

AS goes on to claim that a loan move to Old Trafford is ‘a possibility that seduces’ Jovic, but that it is not the only option.

‘Roma, Inter and Milan want him and are still candidates. Roma is the club that has come closest to an agreement.

‘Any of the interested parties will assume Jovic’s salary, around 8 million euros gross, a figure that Madrid will save.

Meanwhile, Calciomercato.com in Italy have claimed that it is in fact Roma who are favourites to sign the striker rather than United, having turned their attentions from Mayoral once the latter decided to stay at the Bernabeu rather than accept a €10 million move to Rome.

‘Roma are on pole for Luka Jovic. In the last few hours the Borja Mayoral track seems to have cooled, with Real Madrid preferring to give up the Serbian.

‘Zidane has already given his approval and now there is only to choose between the three main proposals: Rome, Inter and Milan, in order.

‘Los Blancos and the player agree that his next destination must be the one that will guarantee him the most game time and it is precisely for this reason the Giallorossi are ahead of the other competitors.’

Calciomercato seem to have a very different idea to AS of Jovic’s salary:

‘The central question relates to the salary of 4 million received by Jovic, which the Giallorossi would like to lower.’

However, late last night the outlet posted an update admitting that ‘Jovic … wants Manchester United: the English club in the afternoon would have made important progress in the negotiations with Real and with the striker’s agent and would be the first choice of the former Eintracht Frankfurt man.

‘Rome, Inter and Milan are still in the running.’

The fact is that for once, this is a battle that United should win. Roma do not have the financial clout to absorb even €4m of Jovic’s wages and Inter are unlikely to be too serious about the move when they already have Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez as attacking options.

The fact that Jovic is reportedly keen on United should make this one a slam dunk, even for United’s bumbling negotiators, and as such there is a very real possibility that Jovic could be wearing a red shirt in the very near future.

4-1-2-3: Solskjaer will overpower the Seagulls with this strong new lineup

Manchester United will face Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium for the second time in four days tomorrow as they aim to overcome the Seagulls in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

According to the club’s official website, ‘Ole suggested he will make “some changes” for this latest encounter,’ one of which is almost certainly going to be Dean Henderson in goal.

It has been widely reported that Henderson has been promised chances to win the number 1 jersey from David de Gea at Old Trafford and will almost certainly be given the gloves in games such as this.

Another almost certain starter will be Eric Bailly, who Solskjaer implied last week is his preferred partner for Harry Maguire if he can sustain a run without injury. Tomorrow’s match will therefore be another chance to prove his fitness.

Elsewhere there may not be as many changes as is customary in Carabao Cup ties. Whilst the competition is not a priority, Solskjaer needs to build momentum and confidence in his side and will be desperate to win the game. For that reason, it seems unlikely that we’ll see the likes of Dan James, Odion Ighalo and Juan Mata in the starting line-up.

It must also be time for Donny van de Beek to start his second game for the Reds, the question being who will make way. Paul Pogba has been poor in his first two games this season, so he is the logical choice. However, if the manager thinks he needs more games to find his sharpness, Bruno Fernandes could make way instead.

Nemanja Matic could be rested and replaced by Scott McTominay as the holding midfielder but otherwise, we expect a strong side – the only other question being whether Solskjaer will continue the cotton wool treatment with Mason Greenwood and give Jesse Lingard a run down the right, who he seems to think is a stronger option than James or Mata. Given the importance of a win, we think he’s perhaps more likely to stick with Greenwood.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted side to face Brighton:

Man United make sensational swoop for Sancho alternative just hours after bid rejected

There is huge reported movement on Manchester United’s search for a right winger this evening, with reports claiming that the club have bid on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and are close to agreeing a deal with an alternative.

Sky are reporting that United finally placed a bid worth £91.3 million for Sancho, which was made up of an initial fee of £73m plus up to £18 million more in add-ons, which fell short of Dortmund’s £108m valuation.

The bid was rejected out of hand by the Bundesliga side.

It is unknown at this stage whether United will return with an improved bid, but it seems unlikely, as reports flooding out of Spain say that the club is close to a £68 million deal for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

Spanish outlet AS broke the story, claiming that ‘Barcelona’s French winger is very close to closing his transfer to Manchester United so that Barça have the financial muscle to complete the Memphis Depay operation.

‘According to the information received, Barça would accept an offer between 50 or 60 million euros for the French winger.

‘United already made an offer for Dembélé a season ago, but the Frenchman’s injuries paralyzed the operation.’

Mundo Deportivo reporter Francesc Aguilar then confirmed AS’s story, tweeting that:

‘The sale of Ousmane Dembélé to Manchester United that AS reports has been confirmed to me by the player’s entourage.

‘The operation would close at around 75 million euros, although it is necessary to finish specifying how much is cash and how much is made up of bonuses.

‘Manchester United contacted Barça and Ousmane Dembélé’s entourage, after failing to sign Jason Sancho (Borussia Dortmund). At first, Barça said no, but economic needs and Ronald Koeman’s ‘yes’ were decisive.

‘Ed Woodward, the executive director of United, was the one who contacted Ousmane Dembélé’s entourage and Barça.

‘They had been trying to convince Dembele for some time, but he wanted to continue at Barça.

‘In the end, they have succeeded.

‘Ronald Koeman’s opinion was decisive for Ousmane Dembélé’s farewell because he considers him an expendable player due to the emergence of Ansu Fati and the presence of Trincao and Pedri.

‘With that money he can also guarantee the signing of Memphis Depay, who will cost less than Dembouz.

The claims both from Germany and Spain are sensational and if true, then Manchester United are finally playing all their transfer cards in one frenzied period.

Di Marzio confirms double surprise: United in talks for 2 major late signings

Manchester United are still in the hunt for a striker and hope to sign one before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

Transfer guru Gianluca di Marzio claims that the Red Devils have a shortlist of two exciting centre-forwards, Uruguay international Edinson Cavani, who is currently a free agent, and Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic.

‘Having taken Van de Beek from Ajax in midfield, Manchester United are looking for a striker to reinforce the attacking department,’ Di Marzio said.

‘Contacts in progress with Edinson Cavani, released from Paris Saint Germain and very close to Benfica in recent weeks.

‘Also asked Jovic to Real Madrid. The ballot is open.

‘The management of the English club will try to sign one of the two players in the last week of negotiations.’

Cavani looked set to move to Benfica a couple of weeks ago but his contract demands of a €10 million per annum salary over 3 years (equivalent to £175,000 per week) ultimately couldn’t be met by the Portuguese side. Negotiations with both Gremio and Atletico Madrid then also fell through.

Jovic would be expected to join on a loan agreement with Real Madrid and it may be that United would want an option to buy. However, Real will be reluctant to agree to such a clause and the danger is that United end up with another deal with los Blancos that collapses due to buyout or buyback clauses.

Of the two options, Cavani would be more of a gamble. On the one hand, United would be signing a world-class proven talent who could hit the ground running, but on the other, it is uncertain at age 33 how long the Uruguayan can continue to perform at the top level and how he would fit in with the young and tight-knit squad that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to build.

Taking the younger Serbian on loan, on the other hand, would be relatively risk-free. If he could find the kind of form he showed for Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018/19, where he scored 27 goals in 48 games at just 20 years of age, then he could be a fantastic acquisition, especially if that option to buy could somehow be included in the contract.

Why United's negotiators are wasting everyone's time with ridiculous Telles offer - report

Manchester United will not bully FC Porto into accepting a low-ball offer for full-back Alex Telles, according to Correio de Manha.

The gifted 27-year-old has only 10 months left on his contract at Porto, who are keen to cash in on him now rather than allow him to walk away in June for nothing.

Earlier this year, despite his €40 million (£36m) buyout clause, a deal was reached with PSG to sign the Brazilian for €30 million (£27m) this summer. However, the financial impact of the COVID pandemic forced the French side to reassess their options and they renewed Layvin Kurzawa’s contract instead.

Porto, keen to sell quickly so that they can replace their star defender, therefore slapped a bargain €20 million (£18m), take-it-or-leave-it price tag on him and offered him to a number of clubs, including United.

However, United’s negotiators Ed Woodward and Matt Judge have judged that Porto are desperate enough to settle for even less and have reportedly offered just €13 million (£12m) for the left-back.

But the Portuguese outlet believes that there is no way that Porto will accept such an offer – or anything less than their €20 million bottom line, as they would be better off keeping the player for another season.

‘Alex Telles still has one foot out of FC Porto’s door, but the transfer to Man United is shakier, with the two sides “entrenched” in their positions,’ according to Correio.

‘Porto [will] not go lower than €20 million for Alex Telles, since up to 25% of the proceeds will go into other hands, including businessmen and Galatasaray, who are entitled to 10% of the sale.

‘Despite running the risk of losing the player at zero cost, FC Porto understand that it would not pay to receive only €15 million for Alex Telles. Not only because it would be necessary to hire another reinforcement, but also because the loss of the full-back will make the team less competitive in the Champions League (qualification to the ’round of 16′ is worth €9.5m).’

Another flaw in Woodward and Judge’s logic, that United could simply wait until January and sign Telles on a pre-contract to join them for free next season, is that there would be a raft of other clubs competing with them to do the very same, including PSG and Juventus.

There have also been reports in Portugal that Telles has an agreement in place to join a Spanish club, probably Atletico Madrid, in June once his Porto contract expires.

For all these reasons, it would seem that clever old Dumb and Dumber are wasting their time, and everyone else’s, with their low-ball offer and should either put up or shut up quickly and draw an end to their latest painful transfer saga.

Two more United stars to join Pereira in mass exodus to Italy, third possible - report

AC Milan have made a loan offer for Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian transfer expert, once considered the world’s most reliable source until Fabrizio Romano took his crown, says that the loan deal includes an option to buy, but that United would prefer a sale rather than a loan.

‘The Rossoneri’s proposal is a loan with the right of redemption, although the English club would like to sell the Portuguese class of ’99 outright only.

‘Milan will therefore consider whether to make a new offer to get closer to complying with the Red Devils’ requests.’

Romano also confirmed the report, adding that no agreement had been reached as yet.

The sale of Dalot is a curious one at Manchester United. The classy young talent, dubbed by José Mourinho as ‘in his age group, the best defender in Europe’ when he signed from Porto in 2018, has hardy featured under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid rumours that the Norwegian does not think he is aggressive enough.

The Athletic recently reported that ‘United are ideally looking for a sale, recouping as much of the initial purchase price as possible,’ but that ‘depending on how the situation develops, United may agree a loan, so long as there is a fee.’ This suggests that a deal could be struck with Milan even if the Italian side cannot raise funds for a purchase.

The flights from Manchester to Italy could be busy this week as Dalot is not the only United star to be linked with a move to Serie A.

As reported here yesterday, Andreas Pereira has agreed a loan deal with Lazio and is expected to fly out before the end of the week to complete the deal.

Romano also reported late last night that AS Roma have ‘repoened talks’ with United in order to launch a final assault on their long-term target Chris Smalling in what has been one of the most painfully protracted transfer sagas in recent memory.

And there is still an outside chance that Lazio will make a move for Argentinian defender Marcos Rojo, a player they have been considering for some time, although there is believed to be nothing concrete at this stage.

The four players would join Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez, who all joined Inter Milan over the last 14 months, and Matteo Darmian, who joined Parma, in what is fast becoming a mass exodus of Manchester United players to Serie A.

Here we Go: Fabrizio Romano confirms United have agreed deal for midfielder to leave

Manchester United have reached a full agreement to loan Andreas Pereira to Serie A side Lazio.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted his famous ‘Here we go!’ catchphrase late this evening to confirm the deal.

The details are as we revealed here earlier today – a season-long loan with option to buy at €27 million (£24.53m).

Pereira’s salary for this season will be shared between the two clubs but an earlier report claimed that if the option to buy is taken up, Pereira will sign a five-year deal worth around £35,000 per week.

The Brazilian will now fly to Rome for a medical during the week ahead of final confirmation of the deal.

Earlier today, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claimed that ‘Pereira has been on Lazio’s radar for two years, he was considered after the departure of Felipe Anderson (before the arrival of Correa) and also last year when Milinkovic left.’

They also claimed that the purchase option would include a 10% sell-on clause in favour of the Red Devils.

It is an excellent move all round. Pereira performed very well on loan at Valencia and Granada in Spain but has struggled to adapt to the fast-paced, physical demands of the Premier League. The more technical nature of Serie A should suit him well.

Explained: Man United's plans for centre-back position this season

Manchester United fans may have to accept a scenario in which the club does not purchase a centre-back according to the latest reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was said to be on the lookout for an opportunity to sign someone for the position but it seems no such obvious opportunity has come up.

Supporters don’t feel the position is a priority but are still keen to see a fresh partner for Harry Maguire nonetheless, with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano seen as the ideal signing.

Unfortunately, it seems the remarkable Frenchman is unavailable this summer and so United are looking to accept their fate.

Solskjaer’s main transfer target was Jadon Sancho and at the time of writing that hasn’t happened yet either and looks less likely to by the day.

According to Forbes, the unlikelihood of a centre-back arriving this summer has led the Red Devils to reconsider their options and are now looking at potentially handing Eric Bailly more minutes while pushing through Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi instead.

The aggressive Ivorian is a fan-favourite and if he’s able to prove his fitness then there’s no reason why this theoretical scenario can’t work.

However, it’s a situation that can quickly unravel should both Bailly and Tuanzebe suffer injuries, just as they did last season.

Ridiculous: The main sticking point in Man United's desire to sign Telles

Manchester United are reportedly struggling to see eye to eye with FC Porto over a transfer fee for Alex Telles as negotiations trudge on.

The superb Brazilian is believed to be up for the transfer but a lack of progress has seen fans lose hope over the deal.

Fans recognise what Telles can bring to United and are keen to see his attacking prowess at Old Trafford.

However, until both the clubs can agree on a fee then it’s likely the deal will fall through in a similar way to Sergio Reguilon.

It’s believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a third left-back in mind should such a scenario occur but supporters will not be pleased with missing out on yet another player.

According to Forbes, the Red Devils are trying to haggle with Porto because they’re not happy to spend £18m on a player whose contract is running out next summer, instead trying to bring him in for around £12m.

The mighty Manchester United negotiating over £6m seems quite silly and is one of the main reasons why fans are incredibly frustrated with the club this summer.

There doesn’t seem to be any end in sight with negotiations or player transfers and time is running out to complete any deals.

'Deal to be completed': Sporting director confirms imminent arrival of Man United star

Manchester United fans may finally have their wishes come true in reference to Andreas Pereira potentially leaving.

The Brazilian midfielder has been on the end of some heavy criticism from supporters as he failed to impress last season.

Pereira has played a rather bit player role so far in his career at Old Trafford and only got a run in the starting XI last campaign due to the injuries suffered by more important players.

United have since signed Bruno Fernandes and haven’t looked back since, with the academy player hardly having a look in since.

It’s quickly become clear Pereira has no role to play in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s vision and so a departure makes sense for all parties.

Lazio have made their intentions to sign Pereira public now so it shouldn’t be long before he’s moved on.

Earlier today The Peoples Person covered how the versatile player is set for a loan move with an option to buy.

In an ideal world, Pereira would be moved on permanently or Lazio would be forced into buying him after the loan spell but given the current economical climate, it’s not a surprise this was all that could be conjured up.
