Disappointment for Man United as exciting target signs new deal in Germany - report

Manchester United and Arsenal appear to have missed the boat on an opportunity for a cut-price deal for Red Bull Leipzig’s talented centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

The Red Devils have been linked with the exciting centre back since he was 16 years old. He twice came close to signing for United in 2015 but the move did not materialise and the youngster joined Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg instead before moving across the Red Bull empire to Leipzig in 2017.
In June, Tuttosport claimed that Arsenal had made a concrete deal with Red Bull that they could sign Upamecano if he does not sign a new contract with the German side this summer and Sportbild reported that ‘club bosses have already accepted the Londoners’ offer’.
United were also believed to be willing to meet Upamecano’s release clause, which was reported to be just €45 million (£40m).
However, against all expectations, the centre-back yesterday signed a new contract at Leipzig that will keep him at the club until 2023.
The new buyout clause has not been reported, but it will almost certainly be significantly higher than the original.
In United’s search for reinforcements in the centre-back position, the 21-year-old was widely seen as a top quality alternative to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, being less than half the price of his older counterpart.
However, with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis this week announcing he will sell Koulibaly for £81 million, the gap in price has narrowed at both ends and it now looks highly unlikely that United or Arsenal will sign Upamecano under current circumstances.

Man United pull out of £72m deal for striker as Serie A giants set to pounce - report

Recent reports that Wolves’ Raul Jimenez is about to join Manchester United appear to be wide of the mark, with Juventus closing in on the player.

Earlier this week, news emerged that Nuno Espirito Santo was closing in on a replacement for Jimenez – yet another Portuguese player, SC Braga’s Paulinho – and rumours started to circulate that it meant that the Mexican was on his way to Old Trafford.

However, AS reports that the 29-year-old is heading for Italy and that an €80 million (£72m) deal with the Turin side is close.

‘Juventus is accelerating its efforts for Raúl Jiménez. The Mexican striker could become the star signing of the Italian champions this summer,’ the outlet reports.

‘In recent days the positions of Wolverhampton and the Old Lady have intensified and got closer.

‘The transfer of Raúl Jiménez to Juventus could close at around 80 million euros, thus making him the most expensive Mexican footballer in history.’

It is certainly unlikely that United would be willing to part with anything like that figure for a 29-year-old striker this summer, with a large part of the transfer kitty already earmarked for right-winger Jadon Sancho along with midfield and defensive reinforcements.

Reporter Simon Peach has also moved to quash rumours of United’s interest in Jimenez. When asked ‘anything on Raul? You got to say something about it mate’ on Twitter, he replied ‘Why would I talk about something that doesn’t appear to be true?’.

Man United's dream centre-back signing takes a step closer as sale now inevitable

Manchester United’s hopes of buying Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly were boosted significantly yesterday after the Italian side announced the signing of striker Victor Osimhen.

Napoli’s extrovert president Aurelio de Laurentiis broke the news on social media, tweeting ‘Welcome Victor’ yesterday afternoon.

The €80 million (£72m) transfer of Osimhen from Lille will almost certainly be funded by the sale of players and Koulibaly is widely expected to be among those departing in the shake-up.

The centre-back is the most valuable player on Napoli’s books and is also the highest paid, earning £193,000 per week. At 29 years of age, it is a case of now or never for de Laurentiis in terms of cashing in on his prize asset.

Whilst the president has insisted that the club do not need to sell in order to buy, their failure to secure Champions League football this season coupled with the effects of the pandemic means it is inevitable that there will be departures.

Referring to United’s 2018 bid for the Senegalese international, in October de Laurentiis told Sky Sport Italia ‘I loved Koulibaly the man so I refused €105million, but a time will come when I’ll have to sell him.’

United face stiff competition for the player. Neighbours Manchester City are front runners for his signature despite having already agreed a £41 million fee with Bournemouth for another centre-back, Nathan Aké.

The big man would be a very popular acquisition at Old Trafford. In a recent online poll, 72% of United fans said they would prefer to sign Koulibaly than Jack Grealish, Donny van de Beek or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Arsenal have a pretty strong XI selection for the final game of the season at Wembley, with long term injuries to the likes of Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi.

Mikel Arteta is likely to once again opt for a back three with Bellerin and Tierney expected to be in the Arsenal line up vs Chelsea in the wing-back positions.

Pepe, Lacazette and Aubameyang are set to lead the line against a suspect Chelsea defence, and will be expected to get some good chances in against the Blues. The future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was discussed ahead of kick-off, with Mikel Arteta suggesting this won’t be the 31-year-old’s last game for the Gunners.

Arsenal hold the advantage in the FA Cup against Saturday’s opponents, having beaten them back in the 2017 final, 2-1, an Aaron Ramsey winner at Wembley.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno is back training, but it will be Emiliano Martinez that once again gets the nod in goal, with the Argentine impressing since deputising for the injured number one.

Defence: Holding, Luiz, Tierney, Bellerin, Saka

Arteta on FA Cup final being Aubameyang’s last Arsenal game

Mikel Arteta has stayed strong to his belief that this Saturday’s FA Cup final will not be Pierre-Emerick Aubemyang’s last game in an Arsenal shirt, but doubts linger and fans are concerned that the risk of no European football next season could spell the end for the striker.

No, I don’t have those thoughts,” Arteta told the press, via Arsenal official, ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea when pressed on the future of the club’s top goalscorer.

You need a lot of ingredients on the table to persuade a player of his level to be at this football club. Don’t forget that he still has a contract here with us. We wanted to keep him and do it in a more long-term way but at the moment he’s with us and I think he should be really proud of where he is as well.

The 31-year-old striker has yet to taste silverware success at Arsenal, having finished as a runner-up in both the League Cup and Europa League. Another final defeat would certainly taint the striker’s CV at Arsenal, and the lack of European football could prove to be too much.

Aubameyang’s contract runs out next summer, so there’s every chance the Gunners could hold on to the striker for another season, even if contract talks break down, but from a financial perspective it would be a disastrous bit of business.

Kick-off for Arsenal vs Chelsea in the FA Cup final is at 17:30 (UK time) on Saturday August 1st.

The key battles that will determine the winners of Saturday's FA Cup Final

Chelsea have the chance to top off a brilliant first season in charge for manager Frank Lampard as they are set to battle against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the FA Cup Final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues come into the final as favourites after managing to secure Champions League football for yet another season, as well as finishing with 10 more points than the Gunners in the Premier League.

However, they’ll be up against an Arsenal side who have won all of their previous 7 FA Cup encounters at Wembley, with one of them the final against Chelsea back in 2017, where the north London side ran out as 2-1 winners.

Both teams come into this game with two very evenly matched squads in terms of quality.

We’ve take a look at some of the key battles that we think could decide the outcome of Saturday’s final.

Frank Lampard vs Mikel Arteta

Julian Finney/Getty Images Sport

This could be very exciting tactical clash as Arteta wants his team to keep possession whilst looking to attack with pace and fluidity, whereas Lampard likes to play a high press and very attacking football which includes getting a lot of crosses into the box.

Following the recent form of striker Olivier Giroud, Lampard will likely ask his team to continue playing with a lot of width in order to provide for their big target man.

As for the Spaniard, he’ll encourage his Arsenal side to attack in numbers and will look to make sure that their star man, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is in the right areas of the final third when the ball is worked up the pitch.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang vs César Azpilicueta

Julian Finney/Getty Images Sport

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put in a top draw performance last week, scoring a brace against Watford in their final Premier League match of the season. The Gunners’ top scorer for this campaign will certainly be hungry to find the net on Saturday after just missing out on the golden boot to Leicester’s Jamie Vardy.

However, he’ll be up against a well structured Chelsea backline which will include Spaniard César Azpilicueta, who will try get very tight to the Gabonese international to make sure he’ll have no luck in front of goal.

Chelsea’s captain will also aim to keep the rest of his defence focused on the movement of Aubameyang during set-pieces as the Arsenal forward will look to take advantage of any space in the box that comes his way.

Marcos Alonso vs Hector Bellerin

Julian Finney/Getty Images Sport

Bellerin has had a rather frustrating season for Arsenal with the Spaniard hit with a few injury problems in the early parts of the campaign. However, he’ll be looking to prove the critics wrong with bursts of pace down the right which may come in handy in the latter stages of the game.

Marcos Alonso will be hoping to prevent his compatriot with his strong physicality and great positional play. This game will also be big for Alonso at the other end of the pitch as he’ll be looking to catch Bellerin out of position in order to put the crosses in for Giroud to attack.

Mason Mount vs Granit Xhaka

Julian Finney/Getty Images Sport

Despite a difficult first few months of the season, which included the captaincy debacle, Grant Xhaka’s most recent performances for Arsenal have certainly gone up a level

The 27-year-old has been strong in possession and has found the right passes to the forward line.

Mason Mount will likely have a very tough job on his hands trying to get past the Arsenal midfielder in the final as the Swiss international won’t be afraid to put the challenges in.

Mount will most definitely be looking to draw fouls from the midfielder just outside the box as his accuracy from free-kicks have been excellent in recent games.

Former Man United man to replace outgoing Sancho at Dortmund - report

Borussia Dortmund are lining up a former Manchester United player to replace Jadon Sancho.

According to the German outlet Bild, the Bundesliga side have earmarked Memphis Depay to provide the assists for Erling Haaland once Sancho moves to Old Trafford as expected.

Yesterday, The Independent reported that a transfer deal for Sancho was close as Dortmund have agreed an initial fee.

‘All talks regarding the deal are still between intermediaries, and that there are no formal negotiations between the clubs yet, but the principles of a deal have been set out,’ the outlet claimed.

‘Dortmund will accept an initial £60m, for a package that ultimately rises to over £100m, although there is still a distance regarding the pay plan thereafter and how much that will be.’

Depay was signed for United by manager Louis Van Gaal in 2015 and started his career at Old Trafford brightly, but faded badly and was sold by José Mourinho just six months after he took over from Van Gaal.

The player has excelled at Lyon since, scoring 53 goals and registering 43 assists in 134 games for the Ligue 1 side.

‘As a successor to Sancho, Memphis Depay (26) from Olympique Lyon, a Dutch international, is being discussed,’ Bild claims.

‘The left winger has … a current market value of 44 million euros. He wants to leave last year’s seventh placed side after missing out on European football.’

Bild also claims that United’s bosses are deliberately stalling on the Sancho deal while a frustrated Dortmund attempt to act swiftly to replace him before the new season begins.

‘Leaked from Manchester: … the English side wants to play for time with Sancho. Probably to explore whether Dortmund’s pain threshold is really 120 million euros despite the corona crisis.’

Surely not.

18-year-old Mason Greenwood has been setting the world on fire for Manchester United this season. But how much do you know about other teenage stars that have played for the Red Devils over the years? Take our quiz below to find out.

Not Grealish - massive majority of United fans want this player to join alongside Sancho

Manchester United fans would prefer the club to sign either Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly or Ajax’s Donny van de Beek rather than Jack Grealish, according to an online poll.

Over 2,500 people voted in The Peoples Person poll on Facebook, which asked which of four players – Koulibaly, Grealish, Donny van de Beek and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – fans would choose as a second summer signing after Jadon Sancho.

An overwhelming majority (72%) of voters chose Koulibaly, with 15% voting for Van de Beek and only 6% voting for Grealish.

The result is even more staggering when considering that Grealish was the only name on the ballot paper who plies his trade in the Premier League, which should make him far more recognisable to voters than the others.

Comments made alongside the votes for Koulibaly included:

‘Koulibaly 100%, we’ve got options in midfield. He and Sancho would be a brilliant window IMO.’

‘I think Koulibaly because if it wasn’t for poor defending at times United would have finished with about 70+ points.’

‘Koulibaly should be priority before Sancho.’

Koulibaly should be available for around £70 million, according to The Telegraph.

Van de Beek is available for around £45 million and Milinkovic-Savic potentially around £65 million.

Grealish has the highest asking price of all four, reported by Sky Sports to be £80 million.
There is, of course, always a premium on English players as they fulfil requirements for the homegrown contingent of a squad according to UEFA and Premier League rules. However, £80 million is more than double the Villa man’s true market value, United are well within the homegrown limits and Grealish would probably be a backup player to the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba.

The results of the poll are certainly emphatic and provide a big thumbs-down for the Englishman. Whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United’s transfer team agree with the fans remains to be seen.

18-year-old Mason Greenwood has been setting the world on fire for Manchester United this season. But how much do you know about other teenage stars that have played for the Red Devils over the years? Take our quiz below to find out.

'He would be insane!'- Man United fans react to links with prolific striker

Manchester United fans were pleasantly surprised by the news of the potential signing of Wolves star Raul Jimenez.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be keen on adding more firepower to his attack and the Mexican would certainly do just that.

United currently have the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo as capable strikers but some fans feel more of an edge is needed.

In fairness, Rashford struggled as an out and out striker and has enjoyed more success from the left flank while Greenwood is still plying his trade on the right-wing until he’s right for the striker role.

Ighalo has proven a capable back-up but he’s only on loan until January and should any freak injuries happen, it would be better to have Jimenez available for selection too.

What would essentially make or break this deal is probably Jimenez’s price-tag as, should he come cheap, fans would definitely support such a transfer.

The powerful forward would also have to accept a role as a back-up player as Martial is Manchester United’s out and out first-choice striker.

The last deciding factor would be Jimenez’s wages as the club would have to be careful not to offer too big of a contract since he is 29 years of age.

Surprise candidate emerges as an option for Man United at centre-back

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes as they look to invest in the centre-back position this summer.

The Brazilian defender has attracted interest of late and it seems he’s caught Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s eye.

The legendary Norwegian purchased Harry Maguire from Leicester City last summer for a then world-record fee for a defender.

Solskjaer has partnered him with Victor Lindelof all season long but it seems the manager is keen on another centre-back.

Some reports claim the former Molde boss is looking for depth while others believe he’s looking for a strong partner for Maguire.

According to Sky Sports, Magalhaes is on the Red Devils’ radar because he fits the bill in terms of his age, potential and expected price-tag of just £20m.

On paper, the 22-year-old fits the bill in terms of what Solskjaer normally looks for in his signings.

At £20m the transfer would leave Manchester United with enough money in the bank to continue plans for investment in other positions as well.

Given the state of the current market, the less money spent on signings the better, particularly since clubs still haven’t felt the full financial effects of the global health crisis, even if United are rich.

Surprise: 26 goal striker nears move to Man United

Manchester United are reportedly incredibly close to completing a deal for Wolves’ Raul Jimenez with the transfer window in full swing.

The talented striker was last linked with a move to Old Trafford in January when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was said to be keen on a forward.

United ended up signing Odion Ighalo on loan instead and subsequently extended that loan until the next January.

However, Solskjaer is believed to be still looking for more depth as he prepares to be involved in next season’s edition of the Champions League.

Squad depth has been a weakness of the Red Devils but it will be crucial to anything they attempt in the next campaign.

According to Sport Witness, both A Bola and RTP report that Paulinho’s ‘imminent’ move to Wolves is happening because they see him as the perfect replacement for Jimenez, who is said to be ‘on his way’ to Old Trafford already.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will probably want to recoup the fee they’ve spent on Paulinho which is expected to be €30m.

Signing Jimenez for that amount isn’t bad at all but there are question marks over whether there are better options elsewhere.

Nonetheless, he is a quality player who will add something different to Manchester United’s already exciting front line.

Key player injured: Man United suffer major blow in Europa League ambitions

Manchester United will have to make do without Luke Shaw for the rest of their Europa League campaign in what is a blow for their only shot at glory this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer successfully led his men to a top-four finish, meeting the target that was set when the league first began.

However, United fans are a little unhappy with their failures in cup competitions so far as they limply fell to defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in the League Cup and FA Cup semi-finals respectively.

The Europa League is the only trophy they have left to win this season and it would give Solskjaer’s case a huge boost if he comes to lift it.

Shaw has been integral to the Red Devils this campaign but unfortunately, it seems he won’t be deemed fit to play despite the small rest before fixtures resume.

Shaw has arguably had his best season at Manchester United since arriving at Southampton as he’s enjoyed success both as a left-back and a centre-back.

The talented Englishman also shrugged off his brilliant competitor Brandon Williams and established himself as the first choice.

However, his recurring injuries are an area of concern and one that has led some fans to call for a new left-back to be brought in.

Arsenal sniff at Partey fee as club chiefs turn attention to Guinean star

Arsenal are reportedly frustrated with any kind of progress to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and will now look to Serie A and a Guinean international who could be available for a price more in the Gunners’ price range.

Atletico, according to the Sun, want clubs to match Thomas Partey’s £45million release clause, Arsenal seem unwilling to do so. Now the club chiefs are looking at Amadou Diawara at Roma.

Amadou Diawara, 23, would represent a player with more time on his side compared to Partey, 27, and as such a more financially viable long-term, and the Guinean international has been integral at the Italian capital side, playing 29 times this season in all competitions.

Diawara would have impressed any onlookers from Arsenal, having scored in Roma’s most recent victory over Torino, playing the full 90 minutes.

The report emphasises how much Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen in midfield, a top priority, considering the club finished a disappointing 8th in the Premier League.

Man United make 'firm offer' for supremely talented left-back - report

Manchester United have made a ‘firm offer’ for Angers SCO’s left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, according to foot-mercato.net.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation in Ligue 1 this term, playing 17 games and providing three assists in his breakthrough season before a fractured jaw ruled him out from January until the premature end to the French season.

Foot-mercato claims that the French starlet is on the radar of several big European clubs, including both Manchester United and neighbours City, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Leicester, PSG, Monaco and Atletico Madrid.

‘Several exchanges with SCO and the player’s entourage have already taken place. These discussions resulted in firm offers being sent to his representative Jorge Mendes. Several corroborating sources also mention concrete proposals sent to Angers SCO.’

The outlet also claims that the gifted player, of Algerian descent, has already visit Old Trafford and the Etihad as part of a ‘frantic courtship’ on the part of both clubs.

‘As of yesterday, he had not yet decided on his future destination,’ the report continues.

‘On Tuesday, he arrived in England, accompanied by his agent. With the formal agreement of SCO d’Angers … he was able to visit the facilities of several clubs, including the two Manchester stables, and meet local bosses.

‘SCO’s bosses … have also decided to spare [Ait-Nouri] from the preseason friendly matches [and] internally consider his departure likely.’

The Red Devils have good relations with Jorge Mendes, which could help to swing the balance in their favour in regard to negotiations.

Currently, Brandon Williams acts as understudy at left-back to Luke Shaw but his natural position is on the right side. If Diogo Dalot moves on in the summer as is being rumoured, Williams could switch sides to provide cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right back and Ait-Nouri could take his place on the left.

Man United must pay player massive settlement to secure transfer - report

Manchester United outcast Alexis Sanchez’s proposed move to Inter Milan has reached a stalemate with the player’s wages the main obstacle.

As reported here yesterday, United have turned down an offer from Inter of another year’s loan with a €15 million (£13.6m) obligation to buy in a year’s time as they want to find a permanent deal for the 31-year-old.

United currently pay around 60% of the Chilean’s salary – which fluctuates from around £400,000 per week to £560,000 per week depending on bonuses – with Inter footing the rest of the bill.

And according to The Telegraph, Inter can find the funds for a permanent move but the issue remains what to do about that astronomical salary.

‘Antonio Conte, the Inter coach, recently described Sanchez as a “rediscovered footballer” and his faith in the Chilean has been rewarded with three goals and seven assists in the last nine games,’ reporter James Ducker writes.

‘Sanchez’s contract until June 2022 stands to cost United in excess of £50m and may mean the club seeking to negotiate a settlement with the player.’

The Daily Star has a slightly different take on the story, claiming that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to welcome Sanchez back to his squad, but that the Chilean refuses to play for United again.

‘A source said: “Alexis doesn’t see the point in going back to Manchester. He’s happy where he is. It just didn’t work out for him at United and wants the club to accept that he wants to leave”’, reports Jeremy Cross.

The Daily Star are adamant that Sanchez remains in Solskjaer’s plans but Ducker’s version of events seems more plausible. The player was known to be a very unpopular figure in the dressing room and hardly fits the profile of the kind of player the Norwegian wants in his side.

With just over a week to go before Sanchez’ loan deal ends and with Inter keen to keep him for their Europa League campaign, the most likely scenario, as Ducker notes, is that United will offer some kind of pay-off to the player to compensate him for the drop in salary he will have to take to join the Nerazzurri.

Man City move quickly to snatch two transfer targets from under Solskjaer's nose

Manchester City are stealing a march on neighbours United in the transfer market by making moves on players from their shortlist.

According to various sources including The Guardian, City have agreed a fee of £24.5 million plus bonuses for Valencia’s Ferran Torres, who was believed to be at the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list of Jadon Sancho alternatives after Bayern Munich decided not to sell Kingsley Coman.

It is a fantastic price for the talented 20-year-old, who is considered one of Europe’s best prospects.

The news may also affect United’s pursuit of Sancho in that Torres was also reported to be one of Borussia Dortmund’s favourites to replace the Englishman if he were to move to Old Trafford.

City are also making moves on another reported United target, Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Aké.

The Red Devils are keen to add a left-footed centre-back to their side and Aké was believed to be at or near the top of the list, but again the Citizens appear to be moving quicker to land the talented 25-year-old.

The Guardian claims that City are already in talks with Bournemouth about the Dutch international, with a £35 million move being mooted.

On the positive side, if City do land Aké, it could potentially leave United clear to move for Kalidou Koulibaly, who has also been linked to both clubs this summer. Napoli are keen to cash in their investment on the 29-year-old, having failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Brilliant statistic shows how Solskjaer can get even more out of Bruno

Manchester United largely have Bruno Fernandes to thank for being the catalyst to their qualification to the Champions League and the statistics show just how he did it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were struggling to perform prior to the Portuguese magician’s arrival in January but were able to turn their season around from then onwards.

United’s performance in the second half of the season saw them go unbeaten in the league, propelling them to a third-place finish.

Bruno provided a much-needed spark at a time when it appeared as though Solskjaer’s job was on the line.

His goals and assists make it easy to see his influence but the statistic below shows there’s more to his game.

Perhaps criticism towards Bruno being wasteful has been harsh given his weaknesses have been exposed a little involuntarily.

The pictures above show his wastefulness has come from the flanks, from long balls and from over the top passes.

This has been because Bruno has occasionally been forced to come out wide to support United’s players who are less capable on the ball.

He has also had to drop deep to help out his team play out from the back sometimes and so makes risky passes from deep which are more likely to be cut out.

If Solskjaer can create better support around Bruno so he can focus on staying higher up the pitch, it’s likely fans would see a more dangerous and more successful player.

Man United legend wants Solskjaer to sign this surprising centre-back

Manchester United legend Gary Pallister has stated his belief the club need a strong partner for Harry Maguire at centre-back.

The former Leicester City star arrived last summer and was made captain of the club after Ashley Young‘s departure.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is clearly a fan of Maguire’s having given him such a prestigious role so quickly and it’s reflective of his impact behind the scenes.

Pallister knows a thing or two about centre-backs to say the least and he has reiterated what a lot of fans feel, which is that the club need another one to shore up the defence.

United have been statistically impressive in their defending this season but far too many errors have happened to deem it acceptable.

According to Metro, Pallister said: “I like Ake. I think he looks the part. He looks a physically strong lad, he’s got pace, he’s not bad on the ball.

“I think he was linked with City – they’re obviously looking for another centre-half, they’ve had problems at the back. So who knows.

“But he’s someone I’ve looked at at Bournemouth and I’ve been impressed by him. For me, he looks the part.”

Solskjaer denied interest in Nathan Ake but reports only surfaced after he was caught on camera telling him Manchester United need a left-footed centre-back and to keep up the good work.

Bournemouth have officially been relegated from the Premier League so if there was ever a time to raid them it would be now.

Ake would potentially be bought for cheap and would add depth to a position in which United’s players are often injury-prone in.

Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe have all missed various spells throughout the season so a fit option would go quite some way to fixing the issues at the back.
