Man United deal agreed as Spanish star teases new club announcement - report

Manchester United target Saul Niguez has sent fans into meltdown after a cryptic tweet suggesting he is leaving Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old is considered one of the best central midfielders in the world but his €150 million (£134m) release clause has made him untouchable in the transfer market until now.

But yesterday the Spaniard tweeted ‘I have something important to tell you’ and then ‘New Club: I’ll announce it in 3 days’ in both Spanish and English. He has also changed his profile picture to the words ‘3 dias’ (3 days).

It is highly unusual for a footballer to announce his own transfer – especially when there has been little press on the subject – so it seems more likely that Saul’s ‘new club’ will refer to another sort of commercial activity, such as a new sponsor, investment or charitable organisation – the kind of publicity stunt that the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic have pulled in the past.

On the other hand, it is not unprecedented for Atleti players to announce their next contract themselves. In 2018 Antoine Griezmann ran a video called ‘La Decision’ (the decision) which was revealed to be a contract extension amid reports that he would be joining Barcelona, which he did a year later.

And the fact is that if Saul really is about to announce a change of football club, Manchester United is the most likely destination.

There have been a number of reports in the last two months linking the Spaniard with a move to Old Trafford and Todofichajes.com claimed recently that a fee has been agreed and that a deal is practically concluded.

‘Saúl is very close to becoming a Manchester United player’ the outlet reported, stating that an amount of around £70 million had been negotiated for his transfer fee.

What is interesting about this case is that the midfielder is one of the last players in Spain to be under a third party contract arrangement, something that is no longer within the rules of professional football.

His contract is 40% owned by a consortium headed by former United CEO Peter Kenyon and superagent Jorge Mendes, who could effectively force Atleti’s hand to sell Niguez.

If a bid comes in that Kenyon and Mendes accept, the Rojiblancos have to either accept it themselves or buy the consortium out of the contract at the bid amount. So a bid of £70 million would force the Spanish club to pay £28 million to the investors, whether or not the sale goes through.

The fact that Kenyon has United connections and Mendes’ relations with the club are strong also play in the Red Devils’ favour.

All speculation, perhaps, but it is certainly true that whatever the tweet is about, a world class player whose contract once made him seem untouchable could now be up for grabs, which is welcome news for Manchester United.

United might have to finish their Premier League season at neutral grounds as the authorities try to ensure player safety. How much do you know about those neither-home-nor-away games the Red Devils have played in the past? Take our quiz below to find out.

Real Madrid's interest in Man United's Pogba seemingly over

Manchester United fans can breathe a sigh of relief after reports emerged of Real Madrid’s interest in Paul Pogba seemingly coming to an end.

The world-class Frenchman has been on the Spanish giant’s radar for quite some time now with the potential move being the biggest transfer saga of the past few years.

United re-signed Pogba during Jose Mourinho’s era but trouble seemingly follows him everywhere as he struggles to ever break free from criticism.

The former Juventus man has, according to some, never hit the heights of his days in Italy despite moving to Old Trafford for a then world-record fee.

Either way, Madrid have consistently kept a close eye on Pogba but this latest development suggests they’re no longer even considering him.

It makes sense that if there was ever a time to kill off interest in Pogba it would be now given the current global health crisis.

Most football clubs are expected to be hit badly financially and so a quieter than usual transfer window is anticipated.

Madrid would need to gamble a lot of money during uncertain times to sign Pogba and it doesn’t appear to be a risk worth taking.

Of course, they could still make a move later but such a transfer needs a lot of work and given how they haven’t even opened negotiations, it’s very unlikely a transfer will materialise this summer.

United might have to finish their Premier League season at neutral grounds as the authorities try to ensure player safety. How much do you know about those neither-home-nor-away games the Red Devils have played in the past? Take our quiz below to find out.

Man United make up their mind over exciting Bundesliga star

Manchester United have reportedly come to a decision on RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner’s future and whether or not to pursue the highly sought after target.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be on the lookout for depth in his attacking ranks and the talented German is believed to be amongst his options.

Werner has seemingly hinted at potentially leaving his home nation with Liverpool and Chelsea also said to be keen on his future.

United are linked with a move as well but perhaps not as strong as others since their reported priority target is Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

Solskjaer is also edging towards wrapping up an extended loan move for Odion Ighalo who has impressed since joining in January.

It makes sense Manchester United would be keeping an eye on Werner just as it makes equal sense to not make him a priority.

The striker position does need some depth but it’s not the most important area of the field that needs to be addressed just yet.

If Ighalo’s loan is confirmed then there’s no desperation over a new striker as Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are options there too.

In a worst-case scenario, Marcus Rashford could also feature up top and now the position is suddenly looking strong enough.

Shocking statistic shows why Man United fans should be excited for Pogba's return

Manchester United fans have obviously been excited with the anticipated return of the Premier League but they’ve been equally excited with the return of Paul Pogba and for good reason.

Supporters are licking their lips over the prospect of the world-class talent pairing up with Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

The Portuguese fan-favourite has been incredible since his move from Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window.

However, Pogba surprisingly still tops a remarkable statistic despite playing just 520 minutes in the Premier League and making just two assists.

Of course, the dazzling Frenchman has been absent for much of the season due to injury and that’s what makes this statistic so shocking.

In the statistic shown above, Pogba has completed the most through balls for Manchester United in the Premier League despite missing so much action.

One would imagine Bruno would’ve overtaken his talented teammate had he been given more time but the former Juventus man is lightyears ahead of his other teammates.

It’s yet another reason why fans should be even more excited about Pogba’s return to the starting XI as it will likely mean more penetrative football.

In that sense, he perfectly fits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics which is to play attacking, direct football at an intense speed.

What Man United insiders feel about Raiola and Pogba amid consistent rumours

Manchester United reportedly very much want to keep Paul Pogba as he is still in their plans for the future.

The talented Frenchman returned to Old Trafford during Jose Mourinho’s era for a then world-record fee.

Pogba had departed United after failing to see eye to eye with Sir Alex Ferguson in regards to his playing time.

It was then believed that the person at the heart of the issue was actually the former Juventus man’s agent Mino Raiola.

The Red Devils have since locked horns with the notorious representative many times and it doesn’t seem like it will end anytime soon.

That may be the way Pogba feels now but he had surprisingly and publicly admitted last summer that he wishes for a new challenge with Real Madrid said to be the desired destination.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed to hold onto the world-class midfielder until now but the upcoming transfer window is gearing up to be a telling one.

Raiola is well known for pushing clients to leave their clubs whenever possible in order to secure a fee for himself.

Talks of a departure have slowly cooled and it seems there’s a decent chance Pogba will remain in the end.

Man United turn to Argentinian star as Jadon Sancho alternative - report

Manchester United are to battle Real Madrid for the signature of Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampos, according to The Sunday Mirror (physical edition).

The 25-year-old has been in fine form for the Spanish side this season, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists following a €15 million (£13.5m) move from French side Olympique Marseille last summer.

His performances have already been reported to have attracted the interest of los Blancos and Borussia Dortmund, but the Red Devils are now said to have joined the hunt.

The Argentinian international has a €70 million (£62m) buyout clause but it is believed that with just one year left on his contract, Sevilla are now willing to listen for offers of around £40 million.

If reports are to be believed, it would seem that United are determined to put together a comprehensive list of alternative targets in case they are unsuccessful in landing top target Jadon Sancho.

Schalke’s Rabbi Matondo, Juventus’ Federico Bernardeschi, Valencia’s Ferran Torres, Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Tete have all also been linked with a transfer to fill the right wing slot at Old Trafford this summer.

Borussia Dortmund are playing hardball over Sancho and have made it clear they will not drop their £110 million valuation of the player despite the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus lockdown.

United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has made it equally clear that he believes £100 milion transfers are unrealistic in the current climate and it would seem the club are determined to find a solution to their problems on the right side at a realistic price over the coming months.

Man United dealt double blow in race to sign teenage starlet

Manchester United have been dealt a double blow in their pursuit of Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga.

The prodigious 17-year-old is one of the hottest properties on the football market, having set Ligue 1 on fire this season with his impressive performances.

Despite his tender years, the player dubbed ‘the new Paul Pogba’ leads the whole of Europe in a number of defensive midfield statistics and it was revealed this week that United’s head of global scouting Marcel Bout has been personally watching the French star.

It has also been reported that United intend to make a move for Camavinga this summer, doing battle with Real Madrid for his signature.

But Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has now categorically ruled out selling the player this summer.

‘For Eduardo Camavinga, the project is to continue to progress at Stade Rennais’ he told RTL on Saturday, via goal.com.

‘The next season should be that of the consecration in Rennes for him. Very sincerely, yes, the project next season will be with Eduardo.’

The second nail in the coffin as far as United’s plans to sign him are concerned was the news from Spain that the 17-year-old himself has chosen Real Madrid as his next destination and does not want to join any other club.

Spanish outlet AS claims that sources ‘very close to the midfielder’ say that ‘he loves Zidane and Real Madrid’ and that ‘Real Madrid have his “yes”’.

The same sources claim that even though Rennes have declared he is not for sale, the door is open to Madrid if they cough up €50 million (£45m).

‘The truth is that it is a request from Zidane [to sign him] if Madrid fail to sign Pogba. And the United player seems, today, an impossibility (due to his high salary).’

All of which suggests that even if Pogba were to go to Real Madrid, United would not be able to sign Camavinga to replace him.

Odion Ighalo contract situation explained: why player is left in limbo

Odion Ighalo’s future remains unclear as he enters the last day of his loan contract with Manchester United.

Both Ighalo and United are reported to be keen on extending the loan until the end of the season, which could be the end of August if UEFA schedules the remaining Europa League fixtures for that month as they have indicated.

However, the Nigerian is wanted back by his home club Shanghai Shenhua for the start of the Chinese Superleague, which is pencilled in for the end of June or beginning of July.

This has led to an impasse in negotiations, with the Chinese side telling United that they would have to sign Ighalo on a permanent deal, or extend the loan with a guaranteed £20 million-plus purchase at the end of the season, if they want to keep him longer.

It has been reported that United are reluctant to pay in excess of £20 million for the 30-year-old, with his wages also an issue.

There have been further reports that Shenhua have offered Ighalo a bumper new contract worth £400,000 per week for four years, but that they will take it off the table if he demands to stay on loan to the end of the English season.

Whilst all this is going on and the clock is ticking, the striker continues to train as normal with the rest of the United side.

It has been generally assumed that if time runs out today, Ighalo will be on a plane back to Shanghai tomorrow, but this will not be the case as there remains a travel ban on foreign nationals returning to China. There is, as things stand, no exemptions for footballers and thehindu.com reports that the superleague may have to kick off without its foreign stars and coaches.

In addition, The Mirror claims that the restart date for the Chinese league may be pushed back a little.

This means that negotiations could continue beyond today.

‘United officials are hopeful that will give them more time to reach an agreement for the player to see out the Premier League season with them’ the outlet reports.

‘The two clubs have now spoken about Ighalo’s situation and it is hoped an agreement will be reached early this week.’
It would seem that everything hinges on the dates chosen for the Superleague to resume and for foreign nationals to be allowed to return. Until those dates are known, Ighalo may find himself in limbo, training with United without a contract in the hopes of playing when the Premier League resumes in two and a half weeks’ time.

1999 Treble winner Blomqvist brands Man United captain 'egotistical'

Former Manchester United star Jesper Blomqvist has been talking about what it’s like to play with legendary captain Roy Keane.

In an interview with The Athletic, Blomqvist said it took him a long time to get to understand the Irishman.

‘I thought he was mad and annoying. I couldn’t understand him and thought he was being egotistical.

‘He shouted a lot, especially at players like Phil Neville, but I realised that Roy was always putting the team first.

‘Alex Ferguson knew that, so let him continue. Roy also stood up for the players, whether it was on the pitch or off it with commercial decisions.

The 46-year-old, who now owns and runs a pizzeria in Stockholm, added:

‘He was driven and the harsh words were his way of trying to make you stronger. He was testing you and if you could take his hard words then you were ready for the biggest matches.

‘It took me a year to get used to him. You always want a player like Keane in your team, but they’re rare in today’s football.

‘Roy was number one in the dressing room and he had to be. He demanded more from the rest of the team.’

Blomqvist recalled that Keane had blamed him for missing the 1999 Champions League final.

‘Roy Keane blamed me for the pass I gave to him [in the 3-2 win over Juventus in the semi-final], which led to him being booked and suspended from the final’, he laughed.

‘It wasn’t the best ball in the world, but he had a bad first touch which lost possession.

‘It’s to his credit that he then had one of the greatest games of his career, but he was shouting at me in the dressing room after. He was so angry and saying, “It’s your f-cking fault that I’m going to miss the final”.

‘That was the way he worked, things were never his fault. I’ve seen Roy since and I can laugh now. We didn’t talk about that incident and I’ve changed my opinion, but at the time I didn’t care much for his attitude.

‘He went on about it for weeks and it became a bit of a joke in the dressing room.’

Of course, United went on to win that 1999 final in Barcelona and complete a historic treble that has never since been achieved by an English club.

'They can go scr-- themselves!': Man United fans outraged at Pogba swap offers

With thirteen different players reportedly offered to Manchester United in exchange for Paul Pogba, fans have been expressing their opinion about the prospective deals on the table.

Thirteen players – Julian Draxler, Angel di Maria, James Rodriguez, Martin Odegaard, Lucas Vazquez, Brahim Diaz, Douglas Costa, Miralem Pjanic, Alex Sandro, Aaron Ramsey, Federico Bernardeschi, Gonzalo Higuain and Adrien Rabiot – have all reportedly been offered to Manchester United in exchange for Paul Pogba by Paris St Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus.

The Peoples Person asked fans on Facebook ‘Would any of these Pogba swaps interest you if you were United manager?’

Most of the hundreds of respondents seemed insulted and irritated by the swaps on offer.

‘All these teams can go screw themselves for offering their deadwood. The best of all is PSG for offering Di Maria. Clearly lack of respect for offering such derisory offers. Shows how low other teams view Woodward.’

‘Most of those players are non-performers at their respective teams and don’t make the starting 11. If Juventus really want Pogba, they must give us Paulo Dybala. Full Stop.’

‘Wouldn’t swap Pogba for anyone, none of them come close to Pogba’s ability. I’d happily keep Pogba and see how he works in midfield with Bruno.’

‘Why would United want to take any player that these teams would want to give away? If they aren’t good enough for them then they aren’t good enough for United. If they want Pogba and we want to get rid, then put up the money or stay away.’

The only names that interested fans on the list were Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard and Juve’s Miralem Pjanic and Federico Bernardeschi.

‘Martin Odegaard, one for the future.’

‘Pjanic is negotiable in this situation but the rest are not even to be mentioned due to their position, ages and performance.’

‘Bernardeschi from Juventus: absolute team player and is quite a good at his art and work too.’

Fans were rightly amused and bewildered at the recent reports that United flop Di Maria has been offered back to the club.

‘Di snake Maria is not even an option, that motherf—-r doesn’t deserve to be even linked with the club ever again.’

‘Angel Di Maria sounds like a great swap deal. His family will like it in Manchester.’

In answer to the follow-up question ‘If not, which player(s) from these three clubs would you take in exchange for the Frenchman?’, various names were mentioned.

‘Valverde and Asensio from Real or Mbappe from PSG’.

‘From PSG I would take Neymar and money. From Madrid I would take Vinicius Jr, Varane and money. From Juventus, none – only money.’

‘Not one of the above is worth a player of Pogba’s ability. PSG we need Mbappe as part exchange. Real Madrid we need Varane and Vinicius Jr. Juventus – De Ligt, Paulo Dybala. Pogba is a world class player and best midfielder there is in the current football world.’

'That's why he only lasted seven months': Chicharito slams former Man United manager

Former Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez says David Moyes was stubborn and not clever enough to manage the side.

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand in his Youtube series The Locker Room, Chicharito talked about the contrast between United under Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill and when Ed Woodward and David Moyes took over at the club.

Speaking about Sir Alex, Chicharito said:

‘Every time he’d do something, for example with myself at half time or after the game or whatever, in the next couple of days he’d want to make sure I hadn’t taken it personally.

‘I’m the manager, we can have drinks, we can hang out but in that part, every single time and he’s the only manager I know who does this, it’s a very important part of his character … [he would tell a player off when necessary].

‘I remember [in one match] he brought a player off, he shouted at him but not in a bad way, he answered in a way that was fair, but then the next day you see them chatting, it was incredible, he was very able to separate what is work and what is personal.’

But for the Mexican, things changed completely when Moyes took over as manager.

‘We didn’t ever have anything personal – Moyes and myself – but it was a mistake that they took him. It was a mistake.

‘It was the first mistake but it’s still haunting them now. Not because of him, not because he was a bad manager, but they thought they were going to replace the boss, Sir Alex, so quick. It’s impossible.

‘Not until now, in the world, even with Guardiola and Klopp and Mourinho, they are not on the same level as Sir Alex yet. They are on the way trying to get there, to be that kind of manager.

‘But that [Moyes appointment] changed careers that could have been better. Rafael, myself, Danny Welbeck, and a lot of players who needed to go away to play.’

Hernandez believes the problem was a lack of humility on the part of the former Everton boss.

‘They brought in David Moyes and I’m not going to question whether he was a good coach, a bad coach but I don’t understand how it is possible – what’s the word, how you can’t be – not humble – but, how you are not clever enough to maintain at least half of what you are succeeding, what the guy was doing before you, because he was the greatest of all time!

‘I even went to speak to Sir Alex because he knew I was down. He knew I was going to be sold, not loaned to Real Madrid, and we spoke about it and he told me the same things I was thinking: “this is Real Madrid, man…you can last for six months there, or last for a year … a Mexican guy.”

‘They had van Nistelrooy, Beckham, Cristiano, myself, Michael Owen. We all played for Manchester United and then Real Madrid. It was incredible. It’s still difficult to believe.’

The Mexican also revealed that Moyes and executive vice chairman Ed Woodward did not follow Sir Alex’s advice to play him more, or let him leave – and did neither.

‘I look at the way my last year went before I went to Real Madrid went with Moyes and I didn’t play that much and I even went to the World Cup and didn’t start because I wasn’t playing at Man United.

‘Look, I can accept being a substitute at Man United. Sir Alex told me that one of his regrets was not to play me more and he told me he was going to speak with Moyes to tell him I needed to play more.

‘He said I was an important figure for Man United, he told them he deserves more game time and if you can’t give him that, let him go, let him fly in a good way.

‘But in that moment Moyes and Woodward did not do either. They did not play me that much, I had an opportunity to go but they said they would play me and they did not let me go.

‘In the winter, I had another opportunity to go but they said no.

‘That’s why he only lasted seven months, because he was so stubborn, he didn’t have that adaptability. Please, where’s the humbleness? You need to grow into being United.’

UEFA may force Man United to complete Europa League away from home

Manchester United may have to finish their Europa League campaign at a neutral venue over just one leg, according to plans being considered by UEFA.

The competition was put on hold at the last-16 stage in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the final in Gdansk also being postponed.

UEFA’s plan has been revealed by Getafe’s president, Angel Torres. The Spanish side are still in the competition and face Inter Milan in the Round of 16.

It would mean that having completed the round of 16 tie with LASK – in which the Red Devils hold a 5-0 advantage after the first leg – they would move to a neutral city to finish the competition in a World Cup style format.

‘UEFA’s idea is to play the Champions League and Europa League, starting from the quarter-finals, across one match in one venue although nothing has been confirmed yet’ Torres told Spanish radio station Cadena COPE (via firstpost.com) yesterday.

‘They will come to a decision on 17 June [when the executive committee meets].’

If the plan goes ahead it would overcome the problem of the UK’s mandatory two-week quarantine, which would have made two-legged home-away matches impossible for English clubs. The only issue would then be the timing of the tournament.

UEFA have previously indicated that they intend to complete both club competitions in August so it is likely that the planned mini-tournament will take place after the Premier League and FA Cup have ended.

The target date to complete the Premier League is August 2nd and the FA Cup final will take place on 1st August.
Lisbon and unnamed Spanish and German cities have been mooted as potential venues for the events.

The Red Devils are favourites to win the Europa League, which would give them automatic entry into next season’s Champions League. Based on other first leg scorelines, the favourites so far to join them in the quarter finals are Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolves and Basel. The match between Copenhagen and Istanbul Basaksehir is evenly poised and the Sevilla vs Roma and Inter vs Getafe ties have not yet started.

It is still possible that United could complete a cup double this season, with an FA Cup quarter final tie against Norwich City now scheduled for June 27th.

Serie A star wants Premier League move amid Man United links

Manchester United could have an interesting backup option to Jadon Sancho after it emerged that Juventus’ Federico Bernardeschi wants to play in the Premier League.

The versatile 26-year-old was a regular starter for Massimiliano Allegri at Juve but has struggled to feature under Maurizio Sarri, starting just 10 games this season following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

And with January signing Dejan Kulusevski returning from his loan back to Brescia in the summer, competition for the right wing berth in Turin will be even fiercer, prompting Bernardeschi to start exploring other options.

‘There is still a slice of the season to play, which could change the situation, but the chances that Bernardeschi and Juve’s roads are divided are concrete’, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘Federico wants to play more, because next summer there will be the European Championships and he doesn’t want to miss the boat. So he has asked for guarantees that Juventus cannot give him right now.’

‘His attentions are mainly focused on the Premier League. Federico … feels ready to have an important experience abroad. Arsenal, United and Chelsea are among the clubs involved.’

The report goes on to suggest that Bernardeschi could be part of a swap deal involving Paul Pogba – but also potentially other United players.

‘Juventus could strike up interesting negotiations…At United there is Paul Pogba, who is the dream (but very difficult to achieve) of the Old Lady’s fans, but there are also other palatable players.

‘Bernardeschi arrived at Juventus with the idea of staying a long time, but the change of manager has slowed down his growth path. In the coming months he will find out if he can still work with Sarri or whether it is better to have a change of scene.’

The Italian international can certainly consider himself unlucky to have lost his place in Juve’s lineup since Sarri arrived and would be a very interesting alternative to Sancho as a solution to United’s right wing problem. And with a market value of just £25 million, he would represent a considerably less expensive option than the Englishman.

United might have to finish their Premier League season at neutral grounds as the authorities try to ensure player safety. How much do you know about those neither-home-nor-away games the Red Devils have played in the past? Take our quiz below to find out.

Director confirms Man United star will not finish season at Old Trafford

Alexis Sanchez will see out the rest of this season at Inter Milan after the Italian club agreed to extend his loan deal.

The Serie A side are reportedly paying £100,000 per week of Sanchez’s £350,000 wages but he has managed just two Serie A starts for the Nerazzurri this season, having missed a significant part of the campaign with a peroneus tendon injury.

The existing loan deal was due to expire on June 30th and whilst Sanchez and the Red Devils would be happy for the loan to continue, there were concerns that Inter might say ‘thanks, but no thanks’ after the 31-year-old’s disappointing spell in Italy.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia via forzaitalianfootball.com, the Nerazzurri’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed that the club will keep the Chilean until the current campaign is completed.

‘We want to keep everyone, including Alexis Sanchez. We are counting on him in the coming months’ Ausillo said.

‘He was out injured for quite a while, but he did well before that in matches against Barcelona and Sampdoria. I saw the Sanchez from his best campaigns in Udine and Arsenal.

‘He didn’t have a lot of time, but he now has the chance to show his value and then we will make a decision on him.’

The director also confirmed that the club had already triggered a one-year extension to former Red Devil Ashley Young’s contract.

Sanchez’s loan extension is excellent news for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Not only does it give Sanchez a chance to prove his value to Inter, but any return to form could increase the likelihood that Sanchez could be sold – or even resurrect his career at Old Trafford.

From Germany: Sancho has made decision about summer move

Jadon Sancho wants to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to German outlet spox.com.

The 20-year-old is Manchester United’s top transfer target this summer and would bring a world class option to the right wing position for the first time since the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham wore the famous number 7 shirt.

With Dortmund insisting that they will not drop Sancho’s £100 million plus price following the pandemic, however, there has been uncertainty as to whether a deal can be done.

‘Sancho… is seeking a return to the English Premier League based on information from Goal and SPOX’, the report claims.

‘An extension of his contract dated 2022 is not an option for the 20-year-old.

‘Chelsea and Manchester United in particular are showing interest in the offensive player, who has scored 14 goals in 26 games in the current Bundesliga season and laid on 17 more goals.’

However, according to goal.com, both United and Chelsea are concerned that it would not seem right to be spending £100 million on a single player in the current circumstances.

‘There are concerns behind the scenes … that lavish spending may be a bad look amid an ongoing economic crisis. Moreover, extra costs associated with the coronavirus shutdown are still likely to play out over the coming months’ the outlet reports.

‘Before the public health crisis, United were at the front of the queue for Sancho and there was confidence that a deal could be done in the summer.

‘Clubs will now have to be creative to find alternative arrangements to sign players like Sancho; loans and swaps are likely to be discussed instead of large transfer fees in the coming months.

Dortmund tried previously to negotiate a swap deal for Sancho that included Mason Greenwood, but the Red Devils would not entertain the idea.

It will certainly help United’s cause if the England international agitates for a move as the Spox report claims, but it is impossible to say how this one will pan out as the COVID-19 crisis has catapulted football into uncharted territory as far as finances are concerned.

Sancho’s camp are reportedly convinced that an offer will arrive this summer but it is unlikely to be close to the £100 million plus figure that Dortmund are demanding.

How Man United's fixtures will look for the rest of the season

Manchester United know at least one date and one opponent for the coming weeks as the FA have announced provisional dates for the completion of the FA Cup.

The Red Devils’ quarter final clash with Norwich City is scheduled to take place on the weekend of June 27th/28th.

The Premier League has also confirmed that it intends to restart matches on June 17th – with the two ‘games in hand’ of Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Manchester City vs Arsenal being the first to take place.

It is then expected that United’s trip to Spurs will be televised live on Friday 19th June.

The Premier League has also stated its intention to complete all matches by 1st August and the FA have scheduled dates for the semi-finals and final of the cup, all of which allows us to make a fairly accurate prediction of United’s remaining domestic fixtures.

As for the Europa League, UEFA have stated their intention to complete the tournament in August. Dates are expected to be staggered with the Champions League, making prediction difficult but it may be that two matches per week would be played leading up to the final on or around August 24th.

If United go all the way in both the FA Cup and Europa League, they potentially have 18 matches to play in a football bonanza lasting around nine weeks.

When the Premier League will start its 2020/21 season is still undecided, but it is likely to be pushed back toward the end of August or even the beginning of September to allow clubs to complete the current season’s fixtures.

With all that in mind, here is a revised fixture list for Manchester United based on what we know so far (confirmed and semi-confirmed dates in bold):

Friday June 19th: Premier League – Spurs (A)
June 23rd/24th: Premier League – Sheffield United (H)

Man United star makes shocking admission he hasn't been pushing himself

Jesse Lingard has admitted he hasn’t been trying hard at Manchester United.

Lingard’s poor performances have seen him become a fringe player at United and speculation has been mounting that the Red Devils will seek to offload him in the summer.

And in a shocking admission in an interview in Adidas Home Team’s The Huddle via The Mirror, the 27-year-old revealed ‘I wasn’t really pushing myself’.

‘My mind wasn’t there, I wasn’t really pushing myself. It felt like it weren’t me. You feel like when you watch yourself you’re like “that’s not Jesse.”

‘I know who I am and my family know who I am, I know how I play and, like I say, I didn’t really push myself last season.’

United fans will be outraged to hear the midfielder admit that he was not taking his football seriously. There can be sympathy for a loss of form, but none for a loss of interest.

Lingard also said in the interview ‘I have the right attitude, I have the right desire, I have the right hunger to win games to play for United to obviously win trophies which is one of the most important things’.

Well, obviously you don’t have that desire, Jesse. You just admitted you don’t.

‘So this season I’m gonna have targets, I’m gonna have goals that I need to hit, individually and as a team as well’.

What happens next with the former England international remains to be seen. It seems increasingly likely – especially after this interview – that the club will look to sell him on, with Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and Leicester all having been linked with a move for him.

However, despite having employed the infamous Mino Raiola as his agent, it has been reported that Lingard ‘will not be hounded out of the club’ and is ‘apparently keen to stay at his boyhood club.’

The Warrington-born player has one year left on his contract although United have the option to extend it for a further 12 months.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not need players at the club who are not prepared to push themselves. A cursory glance at Lingard’s season-by-season stats tell the story of a player who has underperformed consistently for many years. There has been too much loyalty shown to the academy graduate and it would surely now be better for everyone if Lingard leaves, even on a free transfer.

Desperate Paul Pogba swap offers come flooding in from world's elite

What do Julian Draxler, Angel di Maria, James Rodriguez, Martin Odegaard, Lucas Vazquez, Brahim Diaz, Douglas Costa, Miralem Pjanic, Alex Sandro, Aaron Ramsey, Federico Bernardeschi, Gonzalo Higuain and Adrien Rabiot have in common?

The answer is that they have all reportedly been offered to Manchester United in exchange for Paul Pogba by Paris St Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus.

Of course, not all transfer rumours are true – far from it – but if even the smallest of fires is causing all this smoke, it is evidence of a new world of football transfers and one in which, in Pogba, United have got one of the rarest and greatest of swaps to trade.

Maybe swap deals will be the way to go for the foreseeable future, but Pogba’s suitors have to come to the table with something a lot more interesting than these options so far. If you are only willing to offer players you are happy to let go, then the chances are United won’t want them any more than you do. The list is littered with players who are close to or the wrong side of 30 (Pjanic, Higuain, Costa and Sandro), not good enough (Di Maria, Rodriguez, Diaz, Rabiot), injury prone (Vasquez, Ramsey) or just not that exciting (Draxler).

The only remotely interesting names on the list are Bernardeschi and Odegaard, but are they good enough for United and do they fit the profile?

When you are standing in the school playground trying to get that kid’s prized possession, you have to sacrifice some of your cool stuff if you expect to get theirs. That’s what PSG, Real and Juve need to learn now. Don’t waste United’s time with your cast-offs. Come with something we might want, that would hurt you to lose.

Last summer The Independent reported that United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward rejected a swap offer from PSG of Neymar for Pogba. Woodward wanted to keep Pogba and Neymar’s wages were too high, the report said. But fair play to PSG, though, that was a decent swap deal worth considering.

Each of those teams have players that would surely interest United. Juve’s Matthijs de Ligt would be tempting, for example. Casemiro, Varane or Valverde would be interesting offers from Real. And from PSG, Verratti is the obvious choice.

Of course, Paul Pogba on top form, motivated to play for United and settled at Old Trafford might still be preferable to any of those swap options. But at least they would feel like some compensation if the Frenchman really does have his heart set on leaving.

Man United stars fired up in training ahead of Premier League restart

Manchester United’s stars are looking sharp ahead of a return to Premier League action with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to end the season strongly.

English football was brought to a halt by the ongoing health crisis with the league typically wrapped up by this time of the year.

However, since March the Premier League has been temporarily suspended until it was reported a mid-June restart is on the cards.

Solskjaer’s job very much hangs in the balance but things have looked up for him lately after the 11 match unbeaten run that United went on before the break.

The Red Devils’ stars have returned to training recently and were just handed government permission to initiate contact training.

Solskjaer will have a fully fit squad to pick from when the action returns so long as no one suffers an injury in training.

With Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba returning to training, Manchester United’s hopes of a top-four finish suddenly look stronger.

The pair have been out of the action of late for various reasons but it seems they’ve shrugged off their respective issues to return just back in time.

United have just nine games remaining and they will need a strong finish to ensure they secure a top-four spot.

Explained: How long Man United are planning on keeping Ighalo

Manchester United will reportedly have their wishes come true as it seems as though Odion Ighalo will be allowed to stay for the foreseeable future.

The talented Nigerian’s parent club Shanghai Shenhua were originally said to be against the idea of allowing him to remain in Manchester beyond his current loan contract.

However, the change in attitude is believed to be linked with reports that claimed China weren’t allowing any foreign footballers back into the country until October at least.

If that turns out to be true then Shenhua would essentially be losing money for having Ighalo yet being unable to use him.

The situation has appeared to play into United’s hands and it seems as though they’re willing to take advantage of it.

According to Sky Sports, negotiations over Ighalo’s stay being extended are still ongoing but Shenhua are willing to allow him to stay with the Red Devils until the winter transfer window.

It was initially said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only wanted to extend the former Watford man’s stay until the end of the current season but he could be tempted by the January deadline instead.

The hope would be that by then Mason Greenwood would be fully ready to challenge Anthony Martial for the striker role or at the very least provide adequate cover.

Man United offered chance to sign £130m man but Solskjaer will decline

Manchester United have reportedly been given the opportunity to begin negotiations with Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho as the summer window draws closer.

The former Liverpool man has consistently been linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since his stay in Spain was clearly not working out.

The versatile Brazilian has been on loan at Bayern Munich this whole season and while he has made a respectable amount of appearances, it’s believed he will return to the La Liga leaders.

Coutinho has done reasonably well in Germany, scoring nine goals and assisting eight times in 32 appearances across all competitions.

However, it’s safe to say he’s not putting in the type of performances that saw him rise to the top at Liverpool.

It makes sense for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to avoid signing Coutinho as he doesn’t suit the transfer policy set up in place.

The 27-year-old would also only have the right-wing spot to contend for at Manchester United and given how that spot is reserved for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, there’s no real room for him.

Barcelona are also notoriously difficult in negotiations so it’s likely Coutinho would only be sold for an unreasonable amount of money.

After all, they did sign him for around £130m so one would assume they won’t want to make a huge loss.

The young striker who can derail Man United's plans to sign Ighalo

Manchester United are reportedly keen on AS Monaco’s Pietro Pellegri despite the news of Odion Ighalo’s loan spell being imminently extended.

The young Italian would be a direct threat to the talented Nigerian’s chances of staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

United certainly need depth in the forward position but there has been plenty of debate over whether that should come in the form of an experienced striker or one who’s young and upcoming.

Pellegri certainly fits the latter category and arguably the one that fits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer policy.

Then again, it was the legendary Norwegian who signed Ighalo alone, although there were rumours that only happened because he missed out on Erling Haaland.

There is one major question mark over Pellegri and that is his fitness as he has suffered countless injuries, missing around 350 days worth of action across two seasons.

Manchester United already have an injury-prone squad and are meant to move away from such players rather than add to their problems.

Given how Pellegri would be coming in to provide cover for Anthony Martial, it wouldn’t make sense to sign him if his fitness affects his ability to step up when necessary.

Sheringham, Berbatov completely at odds in outspoken comments about Pogba

Two former Manchester United strikers have been having their say about Paul Pogba – and have completely opposite opinions.

Treble winner Teddy Sheringham has urged manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sell the Frenchman.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Sheringham suggested that Pogba’s mentality is not in keeping with the ethos that Solskjaer is trying to build at the club.

‘There’s been a lot of talk about him, you mention captains, when things weren’t going right in our time Roy Keane would put things right, he would drive our team on, he would dig deep, he would make sure we had a say in every game we played in because of his desire’ he said during a lockdown interview.

‘I think when you look at Paul Pogba, does he have the same mentality? Yes, he might be a talented boy but does he dig deep and get Manchester United out of the mire when the going gets tough?

‘For me the answer is no. He gives off the wrong vibe as a Manchester United player. Yes, it’s good to be cocky and arrogant at the right times, I would say Dwight Yorke had that, big smile on his face, cocky and arrogant, but he had a desire to do things right as well at the right times.

‘I think you’ve got to have that and I don’t think Paul Pogba gives you that.’

Sheringham concluded that it might be better for the club to cash in on Pogba and replace him with a player with ‘the right desire’.

‘I think he would be one that would need to go so you can get someone else in with the right mentality and the right desire and the Manchester United way to drive your team on to make sure you get out of the position you’re in and move the club forward.’
Sheringham, who scored 46 goals in 153 appearances for the Red Devils, joins a list of pundits such as Graeme Souness who have questioned Pogba’s mentality.

However, another former United striker, Dimitar Berbatov believes that the 27-year-old is criticised unfairly.

‘The criticism Pogba gets is unfair and he, like some other players, get criticised just for the sake of it, it doesn’t matter what he does’, the Bulgarian told Betfair via Goal.

‘He is doing everything he can to get fit and to help his team because I have seen first-hand how he used to train with us as a boy, with ambition and the aspiration to be one of the best.

‘So I don’t doubt his work ethic and desire to become even better. All he will want to do right now is play football, we are all human beings and as much as you try to avoid it, criticism always gets to you.’

Man United plot £25m swoop for brilliant French midfielder - report

Manchester United are set to rival Real Madrid for the signature of 17-year-old wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, having scouted the player extensively over the past 12 months.

The talented midfielder, currently playing for French side Rennes, is one of the hottest properties on the football market, having set Ligue 1 on fire this season with his impressive performances.

Despite his tender years, the player dubbed ‘the new Paul Pogba’ leads the whole of Europe in terms of tackles made and tackles won this season and has recorded an impressive 88% pass accuracy.

Real Madrid are reported to be in pole position to sign the youngster, although they also remain interested in Pogba.

As reported here recently, Real have turned to Camavinga as a cheaper alternative to the 27-year-old, but Rennes have pushed the price up so high for the younger man – some reports saying as high as £60 million – that the difference in cost between the two is no longer all that great.

Metro ‘s sources claim the Red Devils are prepared to buy the player and loan him back for a season.

‘Metro.co.uk can reveal that Manchester United are in the running for Camavinga’s signature and have made more than a dozen checks on the midfielder in the last 12 months.

‘After receiving glowing reports from the club’s newly-widened French network of scouts, Marcel Bout, United’s head of global scouting, made a personal check on the teenager.

‘United are also of the opinion that a further season in France would aid Camavinga’s development but are wary they must pounce now as European football is in flux.

Metro also notes that with just two years left on his current deal, Rennes’ best opportunity to sell the player at top dollar would be in the next transfer window.

The outlet claims that ‘United believe a deal of around £25m is realistic’ despite the reported £60 million valuation.

However, of course, if that figure was attainable it would bring los Blancos back into the picture, which could potentially be a more attractive proposition for the player.

It is no secret that United are hoping to add a holding midfielder to their ranks this summer – this has been reported to be a priority ahead of a more advanced player such as Jack Grealish – and Camavinga must be high on the wish list.

As such, if Pogba does end up going to Spain, the ‘new Pogba’ could well find himself following in the footsteps of his role model and wearing the red shirt of Manchester United in the coming months.

Opportunity knocks for Man United to steal sensational striker from under rival's nose

Manchester United could snatch Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner from under their rival’s nose as Liverpool and the German side remain poles apart on a transfer fee.

Werner is one of the hottest properties in world football. He has scored 30 goals and registered 12 assists in 39 games for Red Bull Leipzig this season, an incredible goal involvement average of over 1 per game.

Whilst most of the newspaper attention has always been on Werner’s potential move to Liverpool, United are known to have spoken to the player to try to convince him to come to Old Trafford and the 24-year-old publicly stated that he was considering a move to United.

But The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed recently that Werner, who has already turned down Bayern Munich, has his heart set on Anfield.

The striker has a release clause of just £49 million that must be triggered by June 15th. If it is not, the next release clause only comes into effect next summer.

However, The Mirror now reports that Liverpool aren’t willing to go above £30 million for the 24-year-old – way below that clause – and have ‘withdrawn from transfer talks’.

Meanwhile, Red Bull’s chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has warned that Werner won’t be bought for less. Speaking to Sport Bild, the director said:

‘It won’t get any cheaper. We will not sell a player below value if he is under contract for more than a year.

‘In general, we always have to ask the following question – can we replace a player if we sell him for less than his market value?’

This leaves the door open for United to come in and match the release clause of £49 million before June 15th. If they do so, as things stand, they would be unopposed. But the question is now whether Werner really does have his heart set on Liverpool and would be willing to wait another year in the hopes of moving to Anfield, or whether he remains open to joining United.

Another issue is whether the Red Devils would want to sign a player knowing that they were second choice to their arch rivals.

With the buyout deadline just 18 days away, we do not have long to wait to find out the answer to these questions.
