Leeds United plan raid on veteran Man United star - report

Leeds United are targeting Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero if they get promoted to the Premier League, according to a former manager and player.

The Daily Star reports that Simon Grayson, who managed the Yorkshire outfit between 2008 and 2012, believes that current manager Marco Bielsa ‘would have no problems recruiting Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero if Leeds get back to the Premier League.’

Leeds’ current keeper Kiko Casilla has not had the best of spells form-wise at Elland Road and has also had disciplinary issues, having been banned for eight games this season for racially abusing Charlton Athletic player Jonathan Leko.

The Star say that if promotion is clinched, ‘a new face between the sticks is widely expected’.

Leeds boss Bielsa is something of an iconic figure in Argentina and Grayson believes he would have the pulling power to attract his compatriot Romero.

‘If Leeds get back to the Premier League, playing for the club is an exciting prospect for anybody’ he said.

‘They’ll be attracting players from all other globe – regardless of whether they’re Argentinian or playing for Manchester United.’

‘Getting in front of the Elland Road faithful and working for Bielsa is a massive proposition.’

There have already been reports this season that Romero could be set to leave Old Trafford, with The Sun claiming in February that ‘the 32-year-old has just over a year left on his deal, but he is desperate to get regular first-team action.’

The Argentinian has since turned 33 and it is certainly possible that he would want to see more Premier League action in his remaining years at top level than the meagre eight games he has played since joining the Red Devils in 2015.

Romero, who has 96 caps for Argentina, is far more consistent than Casilla and than other names being considered to replace him such as Joe Hart and Fraser Forster.

It would be natural for the player to want to test himself in the world’s best league before hanging up his boots.

If Romero were to make the trip across the Pennines, United have an excellent replacement in Dean Henderson, whose form while on loan at Sheffield United has earned him a call-up to the England squad.

The only issue is that at 22, Henderson will want to be playing regular football and would not be happy sitting on the bench. But if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could work out a rotational system that would allow him to play more games, it could prove an excellent way to slowly introduce the Englishman into the side as David de Gea’s eventual replacement.

Of course, it is only theoretical at this stage but this is certainly one to keep an eye on as it makes a great deal of sense to all involved parties.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? Take our quiz below to find out.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka amongst the best tacklers in the Premier League

Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka is already loved at Old Trafford and for good reason as his statistics back up what fans know- that he’s amongst the best defenders in the league.

The young Englishman joined from Crystal Palace last summer but already plays as though he’s a veteran.

Wan-Bissaka hasn’t needed a transition phase whatsoever and has dealt with the jump to a bigger club seamlessly.

Although supporters knew what they were getting with the brilliant full-back, they weren’t quite expecting to be so good so quickly.

To make matters even better, Wan-Bissaka’s attacking output increased tenfold as the season went on but for now, the focus in the statistic below is in his defending.

To complete such a high level of tackles with such a low number of fouls shows Wan-Bissaka isn’t just a good and smart tackler but he’s a clean one.

This is testament to his ability to read and time when to tackle as well as his ridiculous talent in one vs one situations.

It’s difficult to think of any one scenario where Wan-Bissaka was beaten by his man and his estimated £50m price-tag is already a bargain.

If the long-legged defender can keep fit and remains at Old Trafford for the next decade, he’s almost certain to become a club legend.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

The statistic that threatens Bailly's Man United career

Manchester United star Eric Bailly’s position at the club isn’t under any immediate threat as far as fans know but there are suggestions he won’t be around for much longer.

The ferocious Ivorian is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs at the club but his injury record leaves many question marks over his value.

Jose Mourinho was the man who brought Bailly into the club but he was also the same man who essentially wanted to replace the player by signing another defender the summer before he left.

The former Villareal man has all the attributes a modern defender needs- he’s quick, powerful, good in a tackle and decent with the ball at his feet.

However, the lack of his availability could prove costly as United can’t wait around forever for him to become fit in the long term.

Of course, the five aforementioned players were all mainstays in Manchester United’s starting XI this season just to provide some context but it is still a shocking statistic.

Bailly hasn’t even equalled the least of them and Daniel James is enjoying only his first season at Old Trafford.

If the talented defender can’t be available for selection then it would make no sense in keeping him around.

After all, his position could be given to a younger, fitter option who could provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with real depth.

The hope is Bailly can quickly prove his fitness as he is a fan-favourite and if he does, there’s no real reason why he can’t be Harry Maguire’s long-term partner.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Woodward makes transfer promise to fans and Solskjaer

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has insisted the club remain committed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amidst some uncertainty.

The legendary Norwegian had previously stated the club will still go after their transfer targets this summer in a ‘business as usual’ statement but he was later contradicted.

Woodward didn’t outright say Solskjaer’s words weren’t true but he did insist there must be some realistic elements to some reports and that United won’t be able to spend as they have done in the past.

The heavily criticised figure was adamant that fees such as £100m+ on players are simply not realistic and called for everyone to be more levelheaded in their expectations for the summer.

This upset a few fans who had hoped Solskjaer would be supported in a crucial window and there are those who were expecting several signings to be made, amongst them being Jadon Sancho.

According to Sky Sports, Woodward said: “As I said before and I’ve said this many times – we remain committed to backing Ole to win trophies. That’s our core objective as a club.”

Fans will now wait to see Woodward put his money where his mouth is and given how reports continue to grow over a potential €100m transfer for Sancho, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Solskjaer has invested well so far in the transfer market so it makes sense to support his decisions even more now and Manchester United must trust him.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Man United make goalkeeping transfer decision amid interest

Manchester United have reportedly made a decision on Dean Henderson‘s future, deciding to hold onto him despite clubs reserving an interest in signing him.

The English prospect has performed admirably while on loan to Sheffield United with there even being calls for him to represent the senior national team.

Henderson has played a huge part in Sheffield’s impressive defence this season and he’s clearly shown an ability to perform in the Premier League.

Unfortunately for the young goalkeeper, David de Gea rules between the sticks at Old Trafford and he’s a difficult man to overtake.

Henderson would certainly be starting for United next season had the Spanish talent not been available for whatever reason but the club does have plans for the former.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils will reject any efforts to sign Henderson in the summer and will only consider sending him on another loan spell.

A loan definitely works for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but for the 23-year-old he may be frustrated at leaving temporarily once more.

Henderson loves Manchester United and insisted his only dream is to play for the club but there are question marks over whether he can wait around for De Gea to leave or decline in ability.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Solskjaer given fantastic news as top midfield target's fee slashed by 50%

Manchester United could snap up Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez for half of his buyout fee, according to a new report from Spain.

The Red Devils have long been known to be admirers of the Spaniard and were reported to be scouting him before lockdown, seeing him as the ideal replacement for Paul Pogba should the Frenchman leave the club.

The 25-year-old is considered one of Spain’s best midfielders and has played 19 times for his national side, scoring three goals.

However, a €150 million (£131 million) release clause has previously pre-empted any attempts to lure Niguez away from Madrid.

Atletico are struggling financially due to the crisis and one scenario that AS (via Teamtalk.com) notes is that if la Liga can’t be completed they will fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, as they are currently lying in fifth place.

If that were to happen they would almost certainly be in a position where they have to sell players and sources suggest that Saul’s asking price would be reduced to €75 million (£65 million) in this scenario.

Another issue in regard to the midfield general is his complicated ownership. Saul’s contract is reportedly 40% owned by a third party, Quality Football, led by superagent Jorge Mendes and former United CEO Peter Kenyon.

The terms of the deal stipulate that if either Atletico or Niguez turned any bid down that Quality Football found acceptable, the club would be required to give the consortium 40% of the bid amount in return for their share.

This means that if a £65 million bid was lodged and refused, the Rojiblancos could be faced with having to find 40% of that figure – £26 million – to give to Quality Football to buy them out of their stake in the player.

United’s long-standing good working relationship with Mendes may also be a great advantage should they choose to pursue the Spaniard.

If Pogba does leave Old Trafford in the next transfer window, Niguez will almost certainly be on the shortlist to replace him as he is a world-class, like-for-like player, proven at the top level and two years younger than his counterpart. The news that Atleti would be prepared to drop his asking price by such an amount makes this a very realistic and comforting option for replacing the Frenchman.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? Take our quiz below to find out.

Date set for Pogba, Rashford and Fernandes to train together for first time

Manchester United are set to return to training on May 18th, according to The Mail.

With the Premier League scheduled to resume on June 8th, the squad will be given three weeks to return to fitness ahead of the restart.

There will be strict conditions surrounding the training sessions. Carrington’s laundry will remain closed and players will be expected to wash their own kit.

And The Mail reports that ‘Players will have to drive to the club’s Carrington base alone, work in small groups, possibly on a rota basis if there are too many of them for a specific training drill, and then shower at home.’

The club has instructed players in lockdown abroad, such as Bruno Fernandes, to be back in the country by May 4 so they can be quarantined for two weeks.

Plans for the resumption of both training and competitive matches are subject to government approval and will be under constant review according to the latest developments in regard to the coronavirus.

Matches will almost certainly be played behind closed doors and there have also been discussions about a small, controlled group of neutral venues being selected for games rather than having to clear all 20 Premier League grounds for purpose.

In theory, though, United will resume their season with a trip to Tottenham Hotspurs’ new stadium on June 8th before returning to Old Trafford for a crucial six-pointer with high-flying Sheffield United.

There would then be seven more Premier League games to finish, ideally by the TV contracts deadline of July 17th.

United’s Europa League campaign has been scheduled by UEFA to resume in August.

The FA also intend to complete the FA Cup, which will see United in quarter final action against Norwich City, potentially around mid-July.

All eyes will be on Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba when training resumes as their fitness will be crucial to the heavy calendar of summer football that awaits the Red Devils. Fans starved of football will be glad to see its return and the prospect of both Rashford and Pogba lining up alongside Bruno Fernandes for the first time makes the prospect even more mouthwatering.

Top La Liga midfield star could be heading for Old Trafford - The Athletic

Thomas Partey is likely to join Manchester United or Arsenal this summer, according to a report in The Athletic.

The Atletico Madrid player is considered one of the best holding midfielders in the world and would provide a natural successor to the aging Nemanja Matic.

He has played 174 times for the Spanish side and has become a key figure since being moved to his natural holding midfield position after Rodrigo joined Manchester City last summer.

He also has 26 international caps with Ghana and has scored nine goals for the national side, including a hat-trick in a World Cup qualifier in 2017.

The Red Devils were reportedly interested in Partey last summer, but a deal never materialised.

Most of the rumours circulating in the media at the moment are linking the Gunners with Partey, especially as the player’s father claimed that the London club had made contact with his representatives recently. However, there have been a few interesting snippets that suggest that the Red Devils are lining up a bid for the player, who has a release clause of €50 million (£43 million).

First there was a report from Spain at the end of February saying that ‘two clubs in the Premier League, that are used to paying 80 million for central defenders have made contact with Thomas Partey’s representatives’. This suggests Liverpool and Manchester United, and not Arsenal.

Second, there was an interesting Q&A with The Athletic’s chief football correspondent David Ornstein two weeks ago in which he said ‘Some contacts tell me United are not in for [Jack] Grealish and are focusing more on a holding midfielder than his kind of position’.

Third, this week Ghanain journalist Saddick Adams claimed that ‘a close source to Thomas Partey told me the player doesn’t want to extend his stay at Atletico and is favouring a move to the Premiership. And that loves the United link. Deal could even be sooner than expected.’

This brings us to The Athletic’s latest report. They note that Partey is careful to leave his options open, telling CNN in February that ‘playing in England is the dream of every footballer’ and ‘everybody wants to try different teams to see what would happen. You never know where you will end up.’

There is increasing pressure on Atleti to give Partey a much improved contract. He is reportedly earning just €2 million (£1.75 million) a year, or £33,000 per week. This makes him the Rojiblancos’ 16th highest earner. It would certainly not be difficult for United (or Arsenal) to offer a significant improvement to that figure.

Partey’s former youth team coach Javi Banos has told The Athletic that the 27-year-old is ready to leave Spain.
‘He loves Atletico a lot, as he really appreciates what they have done for him’ Banos says.

‘But he knows he is someone who has the level to play for any club, in any league. And he is a professional and wants to be at a team which shows that they want him and will fight for him.’

‘In today’s football, that is shown by the offer of a good contract. If clubs want to have great players, that is what they must do.’

With The MEN reporting this week that the Red Devils have cooled interest in another holding midfielder, West Ham’s Declan Rice, all evidence points to an increase in activity around Partey, who is a significantly more accomplished player at the top level who yet could cost £27 million less than his English counterpart.

A no-brainer, perhaps.

Man United's transfer stance on Pogba amid Juventus and Madrid links

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Manchester United won’t settle in their asking price for Paul Pogba as reports continue to grow.

The talented Frenchman is believed to be Juventus’ priority signing for the summer while Real Madrid have reignited interest in him as well.

The current global health crisis has complicated matters but United’s stance on Pogba hasn’t changed, as they refuse to sell him for any less than they bought him for.

The World Cup winner was bought for a then world-record fee during Jose Mourinho’s reign and it’s safe to say he’s had times of unsettlement since his arrival.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed to hold onto Pogba last summer but there’s a growing concern he won’t be able to repeat it this time around.

Given Manchester United’s stance and the likely financial crash that is expected to happen, it makes it difficult for Pogba to leave unless someone somehow comes in big for him or a swap deal can be completed.

However, swap deals are incredibly risky and surely United have learned from past experience in the form of Alexis Sanchez to not do another swap deal.

Pogba must recognise that a move away from Old Trafford isn’t likely and for the good of his career he may be better off putting all the drama behind him and renewing his contract.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Man United's plans for Smalling explained amid Roma links

Manchester United are reportedly aiming to clear the air with Chris Smalling in regards to his future as rumours continue to grow.

The experienced centre-back is currently plying his trade with Roma after leaving Old Trafford to join temporarily on loan.

There has been a lot of noise that the Serie A giants want to turn that move permanent but United have stood firm on an asking price that is out of their budget.

Given the current global health crisis and the potential financial impact, it’s likely Roma will almost definitely not have the funds to make a move happen.

This places even greater importance on the need to clear Smalling’s future up so that both parties can plan for the future.

It’s unlikely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can promise Smalling any consistent form of game time, particularly after the signing of Harry Maguire.

In fact, there have even been reports claiming Manchester United want to sign yet another centre-back, boosting a part of the pitch that is already well-stocked.

After all, there are the likes of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Marcos Rojo to consider as well.

The only imaginable reason Smalling would still be at Old Trafford next season is that no club were interested in signing him.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Transfer expert reveals Dortmund's Jadon Sancho asking price

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set a price-tag on Jadon Sancho that is rather achievable for a club of Manchester United’s stature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held a long time desire to sign the sensational Englishman and all the signs point towards a potential summer transfer.

The deal is still likely to be a little complicated but more and more reports are coming out about how the move is becoming realistic.

After all, in the past Dortmund were absolutely adamant Sancho won’t be sold but now they seem more open to the idea.

Solskjaer may finally get the missing piece from his attacking jigsaw puzzle and United fans could be in for a treat next season.

£87m is a little high but in today’s market it is a fee fans would be happy to pay for Sancho given his incredible talent and potential.

The money involved would mean the Red Devils could potentially still have enough in the bank to get their other targets.

There has been speculation over whether that’s in the form of a defensive-midfielder, central-midfielder, attacking-midfielder, centre-back or a striker.

Arguably the positions that need depth most are defensive-midfield and cover for Anthony Martial.

Only Solskjaer knows what positions he has in mind for the summer but bringing in Sancho would already make it a positive transfer window.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Explained: How close Juventus were to negotiating with Pogba

Manchester United have reportedly not received any bids for Paul Pogba, including ones from Juventus who were said to be keen.

The Italian giants are believed to be open to bringing back their former player but it is a deal that would be complicated to complete.

United are under no immediate pressure to sell Pogba, should the rumours of his desire to leave be true, and so they’re adamant on getting their asking-price met.

Juventus are unlikely to have the kind of funds those at Old Trafford want and so recent whispers have grown over a potential swap deal.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see whether the Red Devils can be persuaded to part ways with Pogba with the stage set for this to be the summer’s biggest transfer saga once more.

It was suggested Juventus were closer to making contact with Pogba than the above said but Fabrizio Romano hasn’t let anyone down in the past.

The current global health crisis could mean the Serie A club misses out on the World Cup winner entirely since if they didn’t have the funds in the past, they certainly won’t now.

At the very least this confirms Juventus’ interest in Pogba and should the conditions arise for them to make a move, it’s unlikely they’ll hesitate.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Fabrizio Romano claims Man United star 'wants to change clubs'

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated his opinion that he feels Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is preparing to leave the club.

The versatile attacker has rubbed fans the wrong way of late simply due to how long he’s been out of form for.

Lingard earlier revealed he was dealing with some personal, family issues and as such, it was affecting his performances.

Some have argued he has since dealt with his personal life and yet his poor form has remained, starting calls for him to be moved on.

It appears Lingard may have heeded those calls himself as Romano suggests his change in representation is a potential hint towards a departure

It’s particularly interesting Romano would say this given how Paul Pogba remains represented by Mino Raiola.

There has been plenty of drama surrounding a potential departure for the talented Frenchman as well but perhaps his situation is a little different from his teammate’s.

After all, Pogba has been with Raiola for years now while Lingard has only made the switch this season after talks of a potential sale grew.

Time will tell whether the Englishman will remain at Old Trafford or not next season but the early signs are not encouraging.

United are hoping to make Jadon Sancho the next player to wear the famous number 7 shirt. But how much do you know about the players who have worn it before? take our quiz below to find out.

Sergio Reguilon is the player Arsenal are looking at, according to a report via the Metro, with the Spaniard currently out on loan at La Liga side Sevilla.

Real Madrid are reported to have not made up their mind on what to do with Sergio Reguilon ahead of the next season, but are likely to sanction a loan deal turning into a permanent transfer if they feel there is no future for him at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal are likely to face some competition from their north London rivals Tottenham, with manager Jose Mourinho an admirer of the current first-choice Sevilla left-back, while the report says a total of 10 clubs across the continent have shown an interest.

Gunners faithful will surely be hoping that Bukayo Saka will agree to a new contract and end the need for a replacement signing, but the 18-year-old has so far failed to find an agreement with the club that he’s been with all the way since youth level.

Nicky Butt reveals his true feelings about Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho

Manchester United’s head of first-team development Nicky Butt has defended the likes of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho in regards to their attitude towards the club.

All three managers failed to do the thing they were brought in to do in respect to winning the league but the latter two did have varying degrees of success.

Moyes lasted the least out of three and it’s incredibly difficult to see his tenure as anything but a failure, unfortunately.

Van Gaal successfully steadied the ship after the Scotsman and managed to win the FA Cup but his football was so boring fans were literally falling asleep at Old Trafford.

Mourinho was far from boring and managed to win two trophies in his first season while securing second place in his second season only to flip the table when things didn’t go his way next.

All three were accused by some sections of supporters for not fully grasping what it means to be at Manchester United and therefore not respecting it.

Mourinho’s tenure, in particular, became so toxic it was difficult to support him at all.

It’s nice to see Butt clear up the myth and protect these former managers as even if one were to think they failed, no good can come from still attacking them.

Explained: How Madrid and Juventus plan on signing Pogba

Manchester United star Paul Pogba is reportedly a target of Real Madrid and Juventus’ this summer despite the ongoing problems in world football.

The ongoing global health crisis is expected to have a financial impact on football and yet the two European giants are moving forward with plans to sign the talented Frenchman.

Pogba has long been wanted by both clubs despite them both being well-stocked in the midfield department.

Madrid were said to have quietened down attention in the World Cup winner but they have seemingly changed their mind.

Juventus were always interested in Pogba but didn’t seem to have the finances to bring him back and so they’ve come up with a new plan.

A swap deal makes sense for the Italian giant as it reduces the financial ask but in terms of risk for the Red Devils it makes little sense.

The swap deal done with Arsenal for Alexis Sanchez is enough evidence for why a swap transfer is risky.

Manchester United will also probably want whatever cash they can get their hands on as it would help them reinvest in their squad elsewhere.

A right-winger has long been the priority and signing their dream target in Jadon Sancho is unlikely to come cheap.

While football is on lockdown, try your hand at our quiz below that tests your knowledge about the times when Manchester United or its players have been banned, bombed or blocked from playing.

Journalist claims sensational La Liga star 'loves' Man United links

Manchester United’s potential move for Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey appears to be closer to reality than many think.

The Ghanian international has emerged as a target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s this summer as he searches for reinforcements.

The legendary Norwegian is said to be looking to invest in his midfield and bringing in some steel seems to make sense.

United have no real natural defensive-midfielders other than Nemanja Matic who is in the twilight of his career.

Partey would definitely be a top signing but there were question marks over the legitimacy of the move as it seemed farfetched, until now.

It’s arguably still more likely that Partey is gunning for a new, more rewarding contract at Atletico but it now appears less impossible a switch to Old Trafford could be done.

After all, if the La Liga giant doesn’t pay up then what would stop the tenacious midfielder from moving abroad to get the salary he wants.

United would probably pay Partey whatever money he likes, particularly since it could potentially be cheaper to sign him than to go for their other rumoured target in Wilfred Ndidi.

Leicester City won’t want to part ways with their key midfielder and would probably demand an extortionate fee to make a transfer happen.

While football is on lockdown, try your hand at our quiz below that tests your knowledge about the times when Manchester United or its players have been banned, bombed or blocked from playing.

Who Lingard and McTominay left out of their all-time academy XI

Manchester United academy graduates Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingard have picked their all-time greatest academy XI, with two of the current side making the team.

The duo picked the side on the Man United podcast and there were a few surprises.

The most notable absentee from the list, other than the lads themselves, was Marcus Rashford. It was Lingard’s decision to leave him out.

‘Marcus won’t be happy with you, Jess’ McTominay said.

‘I’m not getting involved!’

‘I think Marcus will be disappointed but, when he wins the Premier League, he can get in.’

Rashford was given a place on the bench.

However, 19-year-old Brandon Williams was included in the side, which is a fantastic tribute to the season he had before the coronavirus brought football to a halt.

McTominay and Lingard are probably too young to remember their choice for goalkeeper, which was David Gaskell, who played 120 games for the Red Devils between 1956 and 1969.

Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Jonny Evans made up the rest of the defence, with the duo overlooking the likes of the legendary Bill Foulkes and World Cup winner Gerard Pique.

The lads took a few liberties with the formation, opting for a 4-3-3 with David Beckham in central midfield with Paul Scholes and Paul Pogba.

They also picked midfielder Sir Bobby Charlton as centre forward of the side and put George Best on the right wing and Ryan Giggs on the left.

The substitutes were Phil Neville, Michael Clegg, Nicky Butt and Darren Fletcher, along with Rashford. There was no place in the side for the great Duncan Edwards, Mark Hughes, Nobby Stiles and Norman Whiteside.

The current crop of academy graduates could well yield a whole new side in years to come, with Dean Henderson, Ethan Laird, Teden Mengi, James Garner, Charlie Wellens, Hannibal Mejbri, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong, Shola Shoretire, Dillon Hoogewerf and Mason Greenwood among others all showing incredible promise and talent at this stage of their careers.

The sensational young centre back Man United most likely to sign this summer

Manchester United have been linked with three new young centre backs over the last two days.

The first name is Brighton’s Ben White, who is currently on loan at Leeds United. The 22-year-old has played every minute of the Yorkshire club’s Championship campaign so far this season and has attracted the attention of a number of big name clubs.

The Mirror quotes The Athletic’s Phil Hay as saying ‘He’s had Liverpool on his case right throughout the season.’

‘Their talent scout is Andy O’Brien, the former Leeds defender, who’s been watching him a lot, and I’m hearing that both City and Manchester United are keen as well.’

The second centre back being discussed is another 22-year-old, Benfica’s Ruben Dias. Portuguese outlet Record claims that United have joined neighbours Manchester City and Barcelona in the pursuit of the Lisbon club’s academy graduate, who has gone from strength to strength since filling the gap left when Victor Lindelof joined United. However, City have been linked more strongly than United with the player and his €100 million (£87 million) release clause means that it would be an unlikely signing for the Red Devils to pull off at the current time.

The last name out of the blocks is probably the least well-known, but could be the most likely to sign: Real Valladolid’s 21-year-old Mohammed Salisu. The young Ghanaian has been an ever-present in the Valladolid side in his debut season and has attracted a great deal of interest from the world’s elite.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Salisu has a release clause of just €12 million (£10.5 million) and his club’s attempts to sign him up to a new deal have so far failed.

United have been linked with the Ghanaian since November and his agent is United player Juan Mata’s father, also called Juan. Mata Senior said recently ‘He is another African discovery and is very young.’

‘He’s been the sensation of la Liga this season because he’s only 20 years old, 1.90 meters tall and left-footed – playing in central defence in this category is not easy.’

‘The truth is that I think this may be his window because a lot of interest has been shown by many clubs and he deserves it.’

With Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones all linked with departures from Old Trafford in the summer, there will be space for a talented young centre back to come into the squad. However, finances will be a factor and that, alongside the Mata family connection, could tip the balance in terms of Salisu when the Red Devils decide to make their move.

According to a report in the Express, Arsenal remain very keen on Traore who has been scouted numerous times by visiting scouts, mainly at youth level, having only made three senior appearances for the Italian side.

The latest comparisons to Lionel Messi are apparently because of how Amad Traore ‘keeps the ball under such close control’, a skill that seemingly has given the youngster such an edge that he is expected to have a big future in the game – be it in Italy or elsewhere.

The right winger may be hard to prize away from Atalanta this summer, with the Champions League quarter finalists surely in no doubt as to how much Traore’s stock could rise in the coming seasons.

All Arsenal covered a report a few weeks back that the Gunners were interested in Amad Traore as well as his brother Hamed, who is also plying his trade in Serie A – you can catch up on that transfer story here.

Date and opponents pencilled in for Rashford's first game alongside Fernandes

Marcus Rashford has taken another step closer to his comeback as he resumed individual training in the gym at Carrington yesterday.

The forward has been sidelined after sustaining a double stress fracture of his back in an FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers in January and a club statement on March 31st confirmed that he had been ‘cleared to step up his rehabilitation programme following encouraging signs on his latest scans.’

Rashford has continued to progress well and according to The Sun, he arrived at United’s training complex yesterday morning to meet the club’s doctors and to train in the gym.

It is one of several visits the 21-year-old has made to Carrington as his return to fitness is carefully assessed and monitored.

The Sun quotes a source as saying ‘Marcus was working out in the gym and has been undergoing treatment which he has needed in his recovery.’

‘He looked in good nick and in great spirits. He is hoping that he is coming to the end of what has been a tricky year so far with injury.’

For United, having the England man available for the rest of the season following lockdown represents the brightest of silver linings on the coronavirus cloud.

The Red Devils’ next game should be the Premier League fixture against Spurs on either June 8th or 15th, which could see United’s top goalscorer line up alongside Bruno Fernandes for the first time since the Portuguese playmaker arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January.

Man United receive massive boost in race to sign exciting England star

Manchester United’s hopes of signing West Ham’s Declan Rice were boosted yesterday after it emerged that the Hammers are preparing to sell the player.

According to The Telegraph, ‘West Ham are preparing for an overhaul of the current squad and Rice is by far the club’s most valuable asset to raise funds.’

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since last summer when United were reported to have had a £35 million bid rejected by the London club.

However, there have been increasing reports in recent weeks that the Red Devils are prioritising a holding midfielder for the next transfer window and as such Rice’s name has come up again. Other names reportedly on the shortlist include Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga, Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

Rice has already been capped seven times for England. He had previously played three friendly games for the Republic of Ireland, for whom he qualified because his grandparents were born in Cork, but pledged his future to the Three Lions in February 2019.

West Ham are reported to be looking for £70 million for the player but in light of the coronavirus crisis it is expected that they will need to reduce that figure by a considerable margin. Rice’s market value is currently £43 million. If the Hammers are relegated their need to sell their star man will be even greater.

Chelsea are also reported to be interested in the London-born player.

Rio Ferdinand names 2 players he wants, could make United title contenders

Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand has listed out a few players he’d love to see at Old Trafford ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to continue his revolution of the squad and while there have been whispers of him being unable to do so, the hope is he can.

The ongoing global health crisis has affected clubs all around the world and the transfer market has been irreversibly hit.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has claimed United can’t go all out this summer but Ferdinand feels a few signings yet need to be made.

Solskjaer’s main targets are said to be attacking options so far but the club icon has turned his attention to a different part of the pitch.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey is said to have a release clause of around £50m but it seems any talk of signing him is just a way for him to get a new deal.

Saul Niguez will be an equally difficult player to sign while Leicester City will probably not want to part with Wilfred Ndidi.

None of these transfers seem easy to do on paper but time will tell if Manchester United’s interest will turn into something more serious for any of the three.

Man United's efforts to sign Sancho have stalled for this reason

Manchester United have reportedly been stopped in their tracks in their bid to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho by the ongoing global health crisis.

The versatile attacker has long been a target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s and it seems as though he’s hit a bump on the road.

All signs appear to be pointing towards a potential transfer being realistic with Dortmund’s asking price being the only stumbling block.

However, whatever efforts United had ongoing has now been blocked by the coronavirus pandemic, a situation which will surely upset fans.

The hope is that negotiations can continue as soon as possible in order to facilitate a move that could prove to be the summer’s biggest one.

It’s likely the other attacking player is a striker who could provide depth to United’s frontline though an attacking-midfielder isn’t a farfetched idea either.

It could even be argued another right-winger who can provide cover for Sancho is needed if Solskjaer ends up using Mason Greenwood more as a striker than a winger.

There have been whispers that Odion Ighalo’s move could be made permanent as the Red Devils’ search for their ideal attacking line-up during a difficult period in the footballing world.
