Dani Ceballos has revealed why he chose to stay at Arsenal this January despite the reported interest from clubs in Spain (via The Sun).
It’s clear Dani Ceballos’s loan spell at Arsenal hasn’t really lived up to the promise so far despite his promising start.
The Spaniard is on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season but has seen his game time reduced and has struggled with injuries.
Now, the 23-year-old has spoken about his decision to stay at the Emirates in January despite interest in Liga BBVA and a European Championships in the summer.
“Arsenal bet on me and I can’t let them down,” Ceballos sent in an interview with Marca before speaking about his new head coach, Mikel Arteta.
“Yes, it is true that he has arrived in a difficult situation but mentally he is a coach I think Arsenal needs right now.
“Since I came back I have been working with him, just two weeks, and now is when I have to show him that I am fit to play in Arsenal. After the break I will be important.”
Ceballos also spoke about his decision to join Arsenal in the first place and why he turned down the interest from current league leaders Liverpool.
“That a club like Liverpool loves you is a pride, but my decision was to go to Arsenal because Emery grabbed my hand and told me to go together.”
It’s an interesting interview with Dani Ceballos. There was clear interest in him from Spain over the summer but he made the effort to stay in North London and fight for his place. He deserves respect for that but now it’s on him to justify his spot in the squad.
