FC Barcelona’s technical secretary Eric Abidal has spoken about the possibility of the club making a summer move for Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (via Sport Witness).
It’s a troubling situation for Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whose contract is set to expire next year.
The Gabon forward is the club captain and the team’s top scorer this season but attracted attention from the Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the January transfer window.
The La Liga side are without current frontman Luis Suarez who is out injured and the club’s technical secretary has spoken about the possibility of signing the Arsenal man.
“I know him. I do not have much to do beyond sports. He has a profile that has depth,” Eric Abidal said of Aubameyang.
“He is important, and in his team he is decisive. It is good to bring this profile of player who can be in the market and can help you. We’ll see what will happen.
“There is a list with players like Giroud, Llorente or Aubameyang, but for one thing or another we decided not to sign. We believe it is the best for the club.
“It is logical that in summer a ‘9’ will come. It is a necessity. We know that Suarez will come back strong, but you have to bring a top player in the summer.
“We do not know if it will be young or experienced. We only look at the talent and adaptation they may have. We must think that some top players have come and have not adapted well.”
It’s clear that there is some interest from FC Barcelona in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, the presence of Olivier Giroud and Fernando Llorente on that list of names is strange. The pair are completely different styles of players to Aubameyang and are in a different category of ability and transfer status. Aubameyang would cost a great deal more than either of them.
