Venue: Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Kick-Off (UK Time): 20:00 27/01/2020

It was a very strong start to the match from Arsenal. They controlled the ball from the off but didn’t create much in the way of an opening in front of goal straight away.
It didn’t take long for that to change. Joe Willock found some space and burst clear with the ball, feeding it to Gabriel Martinelli on the left flank. Space opened up around the Brazilian and he slid it to Bukayo Saka on the overlap. The youngster took a touch before unleashing a powerful shot to put Arsenal in front inside five minutes.
Arsenal’s domination just continued on throughout the opening exchanges. They dominated in possession and looked good value to add to their advantage. There wasn’t much else in the way of opportunities until the Gunners crafted an excellent one.
Shkodran Mustafi whipped a ball into the feet of Eddie Nketiah who, in turn, played it off. The Englishman continued his run and when Martinelli whipped the resulting cross in from the left flank, Nketiah was there to tap home a simple chance.
Arsenal continued to control the ball throughout the first half but AFC Bournemouth did creep into the match as the half progressed. The Gunners held out until the break.
Game management has been missing at Arsenal for a long time but it didn’t look like it here. The Gunners just needed to see out the second half and did just that for a long time after the break.
Arsenal moved the ball around the pitch well and restricted their opponents to so few opportunities. The one big chance that came for the Cherries was the result of an Emiliano Martinez error but thankfully, the ball stayed out of the net.
But it didn’t all go Mikel Arteta’s way in the second half. Martinez collided with Shkodran Mustafi in an incident that left the German needing a substitution. Rob Holding entered the fray to get some much-needed action.
Things looked to be ticking away for Arsenal until they entered the fourth minute of injury time. A simple cross came into the Gunners’ box and substitute Sam Surridge ghosted into the box to make it 2-1.
Fortunately, it was too little, too late for the Cherries as the Gunners secured the win.
